(Old) It's a matter of taste in the MMP

I’m thinking Mike, as in hammertime. (I’ll show myself out)

My story of being caught unexpectedly inappropriately clothed was about a quarter century ago. The guy that I was dating wanted to go camping, so we headed up to Dale Hollow Lake for several days. Since it was late October and during the week, we had the whole Army Corps of Engineers campground to ourselves. About the second night, we were sitting around the fire pit and getting all romantic. Clothes were coming off and things were getting hot. All of a sudden, a big spotlight hit us and whistles and cheers heard. Apparently, we had garnered the attention of some night fishermen. That was when we adjourned to the tent.

Chicken salad is made and my hodgepodge lentil and bean soup ingested. That turned out better than expected. I had some dibs and ..dabs of different kinds of dried beans and lentils that I wanted to use up so I could wash and replenish the containers. I added some chorizo, cumin, chipotle, onions and carrots and stuck it in the crock. 'Twas yum!

In my previous life, I irked from home and logged off at 15:30. ‘Date Night’ was Thursday, around 16:30. The Spousal Unit doesn’t like crowds. Since I have a new job, and I’m not home until at least 18:30, we have not been to the popular Mexican restaurant in Blaine for weeks. (Our habit was to alternate Paso del Norte and May Breeze.) Thursday, Friday, and today, we’ve had people cleaning out the old insulation in the attic, and putting in new insulation. Catmom brought Goo back from the Vet (she’s up to 10 pounds, from 8.4, in the last six months  ), and we went to an early ‘Date Night’ today. Got to Paso a little after three. We each had two grande Cadillac margaritas, and we shared the ‘Molcajete for Two’. Oh, man was that good! Carne asada, pollo asada, camarones, chorizo, grilled queso fresco, nopales, and a flavourful sauce, served with corn tortillas, refried beans, Spanish rice (which neither of us ate), guacamole, sour cream, and shredded lettuce. (Chips and salsa before ordering, of course.) Ay dios mío! How could we not have had this before? OK, they had a fire and were closed for a year, right after they added it to the menu; but still… We ate more than half, and brought the rest home (not the beans/rice/lettuce/leftover tortilla).

Anyway, good eats.

at least the rangers let us finish first!

Enjoying all the stories, but I’ve always been firmly in the camp of “don’t look if you don’t want to see”.

The shower wasn’t the glorious experience I was hoping for and I’m now icing shoulder and smoking myself into not caring. Its going to take more weed than normal, but yeah. Not very happy tonight.

My favorite Mexican restaurant when I lived in Tennessee had various molcojete entrees. I liked the molcojete beef best.

I napped. When I was taking the laundry out of the dryer, Spot jumped up on the top. i was pulling out the laundry dryer balls, and one of them rolled over and touched Spot’s food. He freaked. i’m having a Vieux Carré, and Asian BBQ stir fry fro dinner. Watching F1 FP2. The upstairs neighbors were cheering earlier. I assume they were watching soccer, and not the 7th Round of the NHL Draft.

Download them to your phone’s files, then transfer them to your PC via USB.

You need a Big Bobber and a rope.

“It was a dark and stormy night…”

If I was eating 3lbs. , I bust it up into batches so I always had fresh hot one to eat.

Non functional POS is way worse than my day.

How did I get so far behind AGAIN? It’s like the oysters in “The Walrus and The Carpenter”:

"And thick and fast they came at last/more, and more, and more. "

You’d think I have more pet clients than I do from all the time I spend walking/sitting, but I only have two dogs and one cat. One dog belongs to the elderly woman, who’s still has a LOT of hip pain and just can’t walk him, so that’s 3-4 times a day. (He actually doesn’t like to walk and would vastly prefer I carry him, but there are no slackers in this woman’s army.) Then Sir Charles’ person has been working a lot of OT. I’ll have him for a week later this month. And the anxious woman upstairs is no longer anxious about leaving her cat, so she’s booking me a lot. I could use a day off, but then, the money is helpful, especially since my daughter just found out she’ll need a root canal, and while she hates taking money from me, I don’t think she has a choice.

Speaking of my daughter, she’s been invited to lunch with the STBX’s grandma, mom, and cousin. She’s not sure STBX has told them about the divorce yet. (They know about the baby.) Either they want to express sympathy or the STBX has told them some fractured fairy tale to try to make my daughter look bad. She says either way, she’ll have no problem detailing what happened.

I did make some time today to go to Pride Fest. It’s always heartening to see people free and supported in being their true selves. I’m a little appalled at how many times I came close to tears. I guess it’s from living so long in a homophobic place and having students suffer and in one case die because of it. It’s such a relief to be here!

Enough about me. I know I’ve missed a lot but want to address a few things.

She has 3 adult kids, two on the east coast and one about 1.5 hours away. They all claim to be too busy working. The close one is rich-ish but wants Max’s Person (MP) to wait until September, when she’d make MP come up to her house post-op while the daughter is caring for a grandbaby. And MP would be staying in a different part of the house. The whole reason she needs someone is to prevent falls. You’d think daughter would consider hiring aides for MP, but no.

I agree nephew needs to be cut off, but my sister just can’t do it. I like shoe’s idea of a group glarin’, but since nephew rarely leaves his place, we’d have to get creative. How do y’all feel about climbing trees?

Despite the hip pain, she’s sleeping a lot, probably 18 hours a day. She had a dr.'s appointment this coming week, so hopefully she can find out more.

I see Boo asked for my take, which you might not need now**. J**ust in case and also for the future…I’ve developed an allergy to one kind of surgical tape. The itch made me want to rip it off and scratch a new incision into the skin. Oral Benadryl is too sedating with pain meds. Docs hate antihistamine creams because they dry out the skin. You have a few options: 1) Ice it: it calms the inflammation 2) Call the doc and ask about oral prednisone. It slows healing and suppresses the immune system, but a low dose for just a few days could really help. 3) Ask about Steri-Strips. They’re still tape, but they cover less skin. 4) Ask about a liquid bandage. The surgeon used it on my second knee surgery, and it was a lot less itchy for me.

There’s so much more I wanted to say, but I’m about to be late for Max’s last walk. I’ve done 6 miles so far today. Good thing my back is better!

I had a nice time at the town celebration. We raised almost a thousand bucks for the Band. I spent about an hour with Amy, one of Mrs Magill’s friends whom I’d confided with.

She asked if I had a name, and I told her. She said my real name was beautiful. She asked if I had any pictures of my authentic self, so I showed her some. “Oh my god! That’s you! You’re beautiful!” she said. Then we talked about makeup.

It’s amazing how such a simple interaction can leave me feeling so positive.

Other parents joined us, and we all talked about other things. Amy’s husband bought me a banana pudding which was fantastic.

Eight o’clock arrived and it was getting dark, so we broke down the tent. I loaded everything into my car, decided I was hot and sweaty enough, and headed home, watching the lightning in the distance. The fireworks were going as I started this entry, but now I’m hearing rain, so I think I made the right call.

mollie :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: Or do you prefer Molly? Either way that was a great interaction as yourself.

The back is still killing me, I got about 1/4 of the pile of shrubbery taken care of. Ms Peach is being a little bitch (she actually is one) and refusing to come in when called. Sleep calls.

I like Mollie with an “ie”, because I hate people and want to confuse people.

Maw-ha-ha-ha!!!

Insulation installed today. Our guy’s girls put insulation on top of knob-and-tube wiring. I reached out to a local electrical company who was the top return on a Google search, and whose website says they replace knob-and-tube wiring. Their automated system says they do not replace knob-and-tube wiring. I left a bad review on Yelp, emailed them about my displeasure, and posted on my Facebook feed. I’m sick to death of problems. Anyway, I’ll have to get the house rewired. As it is, I’ll need to wait until next year to get a knee replacement. I guess that can be put off another year or two. :frowning:

Always, always.

I just don’t have the mental bandwidth to keep learning all this stuff all at once. I’ve only had this phone for about 6 months, my first real cell phone because there’s no mobile phone service where I live. Once I finally had gigabit fiber internet (last October), then I was finally able to use a cell phone on wifi. But the learning curve is huge. I still tend to think of the cell phone as, well, just a phone. It’s a wee computer, and I’m still learning so much about what I can do with it.

LOL, that’s a great story! I agree with JtC. People shouldn’t look at what they’re worried about not being able to unsee! Your dinner sounds really nice, too.

I’m so sorry you’re still miserable. It will get better, but I know that’s of cold comfort in this moment. I had a surgery on my neck a couple years ago, and the itching from the tape around the incision site was the worst part of the whole thing. I was so glad to get the go-ahead to remove that tape! I hope that you get some relief soon. You’re getting excellent advice from our medical folks, and you know we’re all pulling for you.

Thank you. I’m miserable with figuring out this phone, but I’m pretty good with computers. This could work!

Hope things get less hectic soon, nellie. My best to you.

Bun sighting tonight. I heard Ollie barking his fool head off in the back of the house, and that’s what the disturbance turned out to be. The bun was having an early dinner. I think this is the first time Ollie has seen it. I thought he was going to turn himself inside out with the barking frenzy.

'Night, all! (Or Nytol, if that works better for you!)

Never got resolved, and the likelihood of it magically getting fixed on a Sunday is up there with snowballs making friends with the devil.

So tomorrow’s shaping up to be “fun” although at least we figured out a workaround that’s mostly, um, workable.

More fun, though! The second-to-last customer lied, two or three times about various things & then tried to scam me into the pizza that belonged to the car behind her. S.M. heard me say something about “no green peppers .. ?” and went, “WAITAMINNIT! That’s not her order!” I stepped back & let her take over that nonsense. Oh, and I overheard S.M. say her name and then, “Yes, I’ll be here ALL DAY tomorrow” so that bitch is probably planning to return.

I made a semi-joke about calling out tomorrow to avoid her, and S.M. just calmly said, “No, I’ll take care of her if she comes back.”

OH! And the last task of the night was checking temps (the 2 walk-ins, the freezer under the fryers, etc.) and :angry_face_with_horns: the main line where we do most prep was disturbingly warm. Mid 50s F, that’s not acceptable. Damn thing was icy cold earlier in the night, too, I swear it was working fine. I was tired and it was late and we’d all had a helluva day & I really could’ve just not said anything, but I do have a conscience. Quick scramble to move all. the. things. to the walk-in, at 1:45 a.m. while the phone was still ringing with drunk and/or optimistic souls wanting to order food. (Psst. We close at 1 a.m. and the answering machine tells you that! It’s like magic!)

We might hafta pour a couple bags of ice into the line tomorrow, periodically, & hobble through the day as best we can.

Okay, now imma find whatever food is easiest to prepare, and also, not gonna lie, get kinda hammered.

Ugh, I gotta open → close tomorrow, too. Holy hell am I glad I hit the dispo already.

Yep, the place I got the seeds is pretty good for info and had a big note saying ‘grow two’. I have three, which is probably overkill, but all but one looked weedy and pathetic before I planted them, so I stuck in a spare and now they’re all attempting world domination. It’s the first proper season with my tunnel greenhouse, so it keeps taking me by surprise how much bigger things get in there.

Another lazy start and sunny day. I’ll be heading into town shortly, and I think I’m gonna redo that nice walk and visit the goood strawberry place again. I do have strawberry plants, but I have like.. 5 fruit this year.

Hope the POS gets fixed or replaced soon Shoe; sometimes that acronym is more accurate than others.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Spot woke me up early for snuggles, and now he’s watching his shows. I shall clean, launder, and sloth the day away.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 74 Amurrkin out and sunny with a predicted high of 94 and sunny. That’s more like Summer weather for these parts. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I get to plop in a pew with OYKW. We will go to the ten-thirty service and afterward go grab a Mclunch to bring back to da cave and eat. The rest of the day will be spent inside and cool, as neither of us needs to be out in the sun today.

red most of the best soups are those we make up as we go along. I have never made a bad soup with that method.

shoe sorry the POS was a POS last night. Hopefully it will be fixed for today.

Oopsie Snoopy is cool! Was one of the options the WWI Flyin’ Ace? That’s my favorite Snoopy character.

FlyBoy that does indeed sound like good eats!

JtC sorry the shower was not the experience you hoped for. Did it at least feel kinda good to be clean?

doggio I used to have a cooler that floats. However, it was no where near as cool as the Big Bobber!

Mollie glad you had a nice time at the celebration. Conga rats on the money raised! Great that you got to spend the time talkin’ about your authentic self with someone. The ‘nanner puddin’ was a score! If you really want to confuse people you could spell your name Maellaeighe. AARGH! That hurts to look at!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence. Although, since I don’t have to serve I can loll around a bit before doin’ so.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Rain didn’t come, dammit. Today is starting with 70 Ferrets and, according to Alexa, “sun”. I’m sure there’s sun above the clouds. Maybe I’ll do a little transplanting today, since it’ll be relatively mild. Plus we’re expecting triple digits later this week, so I really should get the stuff in the ground before the heat descends.

Nothing else planned. We’ll see how it all goes.

Happy Sunday!!

I use Whatsapp to do that. I created a group with just me in, then attach
the pics to a message to myself in that.
Then open Whatsapp in your computer/laptop, open my group and download
the pics from the message.

Anderson, Indiana, where I grew up, has a peculiar custom. Their July 4th parade starts at midnight or 12:01 am. Perhaps that’s so they can be first

Well, it’s Sunday. Time for NASCAR, hard puzzles, and getting caught up on the SDMB in time for tomorrow’s new MMP.

Time for breakfast.

Morning all. Watched World Cup until late last night, so slept until 7am and then got laundry started while I did the Sunday NY TImes run (and also got a pecan sticky bun, it is bad for my calorie count but soooooo good to eat, I guess I can get away with it once a week). T-shirts are washing, due to be followed by underwear and then we’ll see if more is required, not out of anything else right now but once I start a laundry day I like to get most everything done. 79F now heading to 93F and not a drop of rain in sight.

And I see I didn’t check in since lunchtime yesterday, so need to do some serious reading.

Oopsie, hope Husband BFF beats the odds, I get the Cologuard screening every couple of years, negative so far but still watching…and good news on your own medical progress! But that kitchen faucet… :face_with_spiral_eyes: :stop_sign: And nice to see the Lego mastero in action again. And any bets on the company calling you tomorrow about picking up the recycle bin?

cookie, I have more problems with the Friday/Saturday NY Times crosswords than I do with the Sunday one.

Bright Tree, that story got an out-loud laugh from me, thank you for sharing. And I didn’t get a cellphone until 3 years ago and I still probably use it to about 30% of it’s capability.

52, guess other folks are looking to put things in storage/organize…

Cat Glove, glad the Duck Day went well and provided some fun time. And yeah, lots of kids on my .5 mile drive to the main road, and I try to keep my eyes open in places I know harbor them. Never seen a drone show to date, will have to watch for them.

doggio, never thought of you as part-time, you seem to put in mucho hours each week.

Nut, enjoy eating your vegetables.

I didn’t know ice cream could be stupid–it’s always a great idea when I have it…

Works for me and my comprehension.

Shoe, I can still remember my time as a short-order cook and reading the various scrawls on the tickets coming in. And that’s too many onion rings (back at my time as a cook, I can remember dropping fish in the fryers for 3-4 hours on Friday during Lent–not a good memory). And no wonder the folks there love S.M.; someone who stands up for her people and don’t take s*** from the customers will always be popular. Happy Hammer Time!

red, sounds like the fishermen caught a big one…or had one heck of a story to tell (probably embellished).

Flyboy, glad Goo is weighty and you and Spouse are too after that dinner! Happy Insulating!

Bring money..lots and lots of money. Lawyers and Guns are optional…

nellie, I’ve written all the above and still have 10-11 more messages to read, so I know your pain. Best wishes to Daughter. And keep on walkin’

And T-shirts are in the dryer and underwear is washing (and why is it that no matter how diligently I sort and check, there is always a sock in the T-shirt load?).

Mollie, great news for both the Band and you personally.

Swampy, happy plopping.

And that’s eaten up a chunk of the morning, so onward into the day. Have a good one all.

Good morning.

It’s 54F and cloudy outside. It’ll be generally cloudy all day, with a daytime high of 66F. It rained a good bit, with some serious downpours yesterday. I don’t mind; the grass and flowers appreciated it.

Mollie, I’m glad the celebration went well. Congrats on the money that was raised.

VanGo, I hope your back is feeling better today.

JtC, I’m sorry you’re hurting. I hope today is a much better day.

Shoe, I’m sorry the P.O.S was a POS. I hope it gets fixed soon.

Nellie, you definitely sound busy. Good for your daughter having no problem setting STBX family straight on what really happened. And, even if they still can’t see through his BS, she’ll have said her piece and can walk away.

Hubby is making noises about taking another long bike ride, but with the 4th coming up, I am loath to leave the pups alone for long. I just looked at the weather forecast for the 4th, and it looks like it’ll be relatively nice, which means even more dumb fireworks.

As for today, maybe I’ll be able to transplant those plants. If not, I have stuff to take care of indoors, too.

Please take care of yourselves.
