Ha! Here, the sun isn’t going down until 14 minutes after four! ![]()
You could be in Anchorage, where it sets at 3:40 today, while it’s an hour earlier in Fairbanks.
Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, had sammiches and achieved nappage and day drinkin’. The biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Neighbor is out of town, so I went to get her trash can, but there was only one bag of trash, so I put it in with ours. Tomorrow night is men’s night over to the church house. Thus steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. I got asked again if I am willin’ to serve on the vestry and again said no thanks.
There was a clothes and toy swap event in the parish hall this afternoon. AIUI, one brings stuff, gets x number of tickets and uses the tickets to get other stuff. I am kinda confused, but apparently it’s a big deal as it was due to start at noon and folks were there for it when we left at eleven-thirty. Also stuff was brought in throughout the week as the parish hall was full of stuff all neatly arranged on tables. So it’s a good thing, I guess? I am sure the organizers know what they’re doin’.
Hello darkness my old friend, why are you here, it’s 4 pm ![]()
Mrs. L.A. and I used to watch football, but she lost interest because teams kept changing cities; so I either have to watch on my computer (Xfinity streaming), or not watch at all. Since she’s gone, I can watch. But I’ve been catching up on DVR recordings. But, I caught the end of the Colts/Seahawks game. When the Colts got a field goal to get a point ahead of Seattle, I thought the game was over. I kept with it though, to see the Seahawks make a field goal for a two-point advantage. Almost no way for the Colts to score another field goal. But they had to try. And Seattle intercepted! Indianapolis wouldn’t have made it anyway, but it was nice to see the ‘Hawks pot a fork in it.
So glad you’re back in touch! And enjoy the football – go, Hawks!
JtC, I’m happy you stitched yesterday and even happier that you stayed home today, safe and warm. You’ve done more than your share of protesting at the Capitol. We are all grateful for your efforts, and they are an inspiration for everyone to do what they can. Also, LadyBeth is very fortunate to have such a kind property manager as you! I hope she makes it.
Shoe, I will join others who have said the teenager needs some schooling on how to act like an adult at work. Frankly, I’d make it snappy on the popcorn. I don’t think you’ll have much chance to eat it before his departure! I hope you are otherwise well.
metal mouse, you are ever a sweetie. To you and others who look forward to the “broken gate saga,” I fear it will end in tears, some blood, some bad words and a capitulation to the expensive gate guru. But I’ll do the AFGO first and see. Maybe I’ll get lucky! ![]()
You are, you are! And I hope verger duties went well today!
boo fae, I will give regular Ollie updates. He is such a goof ball, but he’s becoming more sweet all the time. Today for the first time ever, I left him alone in the house while I rounded up a load of wood for the wood burner. We’re had another Death to Heat Pump night with almost-freezing temperatures together with morning fog, so I turned off the heat pump to heat with wood today and tonight. Ollie was left to his own devices for about half an hour. And he was good!! He didn’t burn his paws exploring the wood burner, or pee on the carpet, or poop in the kitchen, or drag used tissues out of a wastebasket. P-r-o-g-r-e-s-s. I’ll take it!
Sounds like it was a humdinger of a good time for you guys last night! Gives me a smile. ![]()
I am so with you on this, Taters! Not just the bug problem, but our fruit trees won’t get enough chill days to properly set fruit, and we won’t get enough snow pack in the Cascades to sustain water needs for our farmers in summer. We need our winters to be wintery.
LOL, yeah, it was a common refrain where I worked. If I never hear someone say, “Think of it as a growth opportunity!” again, it will be too soon. ![]()
Hope the nap helped, red. And may things improve much faster going forward. You are making progress!
Good to hear, Lily. Whenever I buy a place, I head to the local Recorder’s and Assessor’s Offices. I check out property taxes, make sure they’re paid and up to date, that all remodels/buildings on the premises are properly permitted, that the property isn’t in a flood plain, where are the CCRs and easements, if any, how many legal lots, are there any outstanding liens, etc. This practice has saved me making several ill-informed decisions over the years.Sounds like your lovely wife does the same things. Good for her!
My condolences to you for the loss of your friend.
Yeeks, @elbows! At least you’ll stay warm!
nut, you’re a good 'un for looking after friend’s children. They will remember you and your gifts given in lean times over their whole lifetimes, they really will.
cookie, yayy for your daughter getting her tax situation under control. That has to be a relief all around. Your cookies sound marvelous, too. (No surprise there.)
Van Go, glad you and Peach got a wrasslin’ in with her buddy! It was brave of you to withstand the 15 ferrets to give her a dog park session. And here, we get clear to 4:34 p.m. for our sunset. Nyeah. ![]()
A fairly quiet day here. Weather continues too warm, and wetness is on the horizon for overnight and the rest of the week. But still much too warm. Overnight temperatures are in the low 40s. Crazy!
No progress made on the gate project today, as I need to call Mighty Mule’s customer support to make sure I’ve read the blinking lights and tones from the controller correctly before I tear into the armature. If they agree it’s probably the armature, then I’ve got nothing to lose by tearing it apart to see if I can fix it. If I can’t, I’ll have to just grit my teeth and buy a new one anyway.
There’s a nice fire in the wood burner , à la @elbows. Other than that, just watching old episodes of Midsommer Murders (so cheesy!) and still trying to get to Genius status on Spelling Bee. Dinner will be leftover braised pork chops in onion sour cream gravy with peas over noodles, with green beans on the side. Such excitement!
See everyone in the new MMP tomorrow!
I had such a substantial lunch at Salsa’s that I didn’t want supper. I had some grapes, then around 7 I had my evening apple-n-peanut butter. I made a lot if progress on my afghan while watching a mini series about Beethoven. It’s not going to get up to freezing tomorrow. Ick.
Eventually I intend to vacate my recliner and go to bed. Eventually. For now, I’m too comfortable.
And a good evening to all. Dishes are washed and awaiting me to put them away so I can dirty them again, exercises have been completed, food and drink have been consumed, tackleball watched and the tough Ken-Ken math puzzle for Sunday has been solved (only took two tries). so the evening will be concentrated on the internet and staying warm (it’s 20F and heading to 14F, which is probably warm for many of you but is pretty frigid here in N. Ali-bama). Will be warming up later in the week, however, so I have that to forward too.
Looks like about 30 reports to wade through, and they ain’t getting read while I sit here typing, so fingers to the scroll bar and here I go…
I can’t either, since it’s still 10-11 days away…
And Otis may be rambunctious, but he knows when he’s facing trouble he doesn’t need…
boo fae, it says something about the Giffard that it attracts customers from so far away. Glad you had a grand night.
doggio, just stocking up for those long winter nights, Mr. Squirrel is…and I see later in the thread that he decided to get all the stuff wholesale instead of a daily ration…
Taters, would gladly send you some cold weather if I could, the longer I live down here the less tolerant to the cold I seem to get.
Hope your feeling better, red
I will fervently hope that those are not your famous last words…
Knots, I do not listen to podcasts, they simply are not on my horizon, but I admit that one you mention sounds rather interesting…may have to look into that.
flyboy, happy Fixit Day! And a lovely gift for a lovely lady. Didn’t have the Seahawks/Colts game but kept switching back and forth between the Packers/Broncos and Lions/Rams as both were on the late game lineup. Actually some pretty good games out there this week.
I have often said that the three most feared words in the English Language are “Wind Chill Factor”. Had some of it here today too and did not enjoy.
elbows, welcome and hope you can dig out of the snow soon.
Nut, your doing a good thing and I am proud to know yas.
JtC, took me a moment to remember LadyBeth is a Ladybug so now your comment makes sense.
Why not both?
swampy, sounds like the swap meet is a chance to get some stuff and get rid of some other stuff, so hope the participants had fun.
BrightTree, had to look up AFGO and got a grin from it, so thanks (for anyone else who is curious, it is Another F###in’ Growth Opportunity. And glad to see Ollie settling down some…for now…
And since everyone seems to be contributing, Sunset here is 4:38pm.
And that’s all I wrote. May check in before bedtime and may not, but either way I’ll see all y’all tomorrow on the new MMP.
Ollie sounds like he’s a real joy, although he’s at the stage that involves a lot of work and patience.
One of my favorite evening CNAs is on again this evening. She’s very attentive and friendly.
He is. He’s just spicier than I’m accustomed to. Very willful. We’re learning to compromise. ![]()
I finally found a toy for him that he adores and that he hasn’t been able to tear to pieces inside of a day. It’s a fuzzy llama with multiple squeakers that’s almost as big as him. Name of Lambie. It’s at least lasted long enough to be christened! I’m going to order at least 2 more before they disappear forever.
I’m happy to hear a favored CNA is looking after you tonight! May she be there as often as you need her.

She wants a big box filled with brown crinkly paper and cat toys. Or maybe I’m channeling Abby.
I’m sure your beloved wife doesn’t “need” anything and I’d expect that if she wanted something special, she would tell you or leave enough hints around that you would get it. She loves you and knows that you are stressed so maybe simple would be good this year.
When was the last time her car was detailed? Do the carpets need shampooed? Nobody really notices when the light globes are getting dirty, but they sure do notice when they are suddenly clean again. How about new floor register grills? That’s something simple that can really change the look of a room.
Why not both?
Winter is coming!!!
And, why did you put up such a flimsy hanger anyhow? Spot needs his day time stories, something must be done right away!
We made it up to 17. I went outside once and then warmed my hands up on George’s fluffy belly. He thinks I should stay in when its that cold.
It is a very good thing. It is better to swap than buy new, especially with today’s prices. I know that I’d much rather give my gently used items away than store or dump them.
Thank you for your kind words, but I will confess that I was glad to take the day off. Nobody would be out to see me and I would have looked like that kid in the Christmas movie.
The fuzzbutts think the floor is too cold have spent most of the day bird watching and I was sure to be sure that there was a steady supply of seed on the dry areas. Now they are just worn out and rather irritated that the paparazzi have arrived.
The sun set at 1709 here, sunset in AZ was 1719 so not much difference. I really hated going to work and coming home after dark, so I have much sympathy for those who are doing it now.
Thanks, y’all. It was a good memorial.
10pm, have doing nothing of value since my last posting (as it should be) and will shortly head off to slumberland as 16 hours without nappage is just about my limit. 17F outside right now so glad the heating is working. Catch y’all tomorrow.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 19 degrees Ferret Height(-7.22 Centipedes) with a windchill of 8F(-13.3C)
Sunset is 4:36 in Philly.
Both?! Like waffles and chicken? French toast and salmon? Good heavens.
It was just me and Alternate Manager closing tonight (!!! friggin’ just the two of us, so not fun) and yes, from what I heard, he got quite a bit of fussing at.
Just the Two of us
Currently 16f/-9c (wind chill 1/-17) and sunny, predicted high 28/-2. (Overnight low was 14/-10.)
Another day in the neighbourhood, an RDOS day in the neighbourhood.
Lady SCAdian might have a doctor’s appointment today, but I’m not really planning to go anywhere.
You might want to go over to the new Monday morning MMP or you’ll miss all the good stuff.
Strange. I thought that was where I was…
