One of my cats left a dead mouse in the kitchen. It was a large mouse and looked well-fed and healthy (other than the being dead, part.)
I had no idea we had mice. Good cat, doing overtime, beyond its regular job of being soft and cute.

I was on Middle Blue again. Kinda of a slow day, only reason I made any hours at all was the Next Day Air was late, so The supreme Shouting Officer kept the cars in till 0945. I’m pretty much making the same hours I did before Peak.
It also flurried on the way out from work. I stopped at the Likker Sto for some rye, and almost got rear ended and sideswiped by a yahoo in an Accord, who was going well over the limit, and used a 40 foot left turn lane to pass me, so they could turn into a neighborhood 100 yards down the road one second sooner. ![]()
Does the Uni need to start microchipping y’all so they know where everybody is?
I’ve been saying use those tracking collars, I’m sure the ecology group have a few…
My wife likes to put votive (tea) candles in these decorations that are intended for that purpose. Her niece has given us a couple of these, the latest being a church where you can see the candle light through the windows, etc. She was complaining about running out of candles and ordered some expensive ones with “pumpkin aroma”. I think she got eight of them for $15. I ordered a hundred for $18 on Amazon for her.
We’ve definitely canceled our plans to hit the Christmas market tomorrow. A wind chill of -30F is just asking for trouble. I’ve had frostbite before (on my ears) and don’t care to repeat the experience.
I’ll be making cookie dough tomorrow in preparation for Sunday’s Christmas cookie-making gala.
So what’s with the blocks of concrete they call sugar in local stores here? We lived in rain central (Oregon) for 12 years and never encountered this problem. A total PITA to deal with.
The latest round of Cetol is done. I’m getting faster but it’s still tiring.
Daughter sent me some videos of the Christmas program at Tobias’ school today. He is definitely not the ham that his sister is. But they were still cute - of course - it’s the 4-y/o class!
I’m thinking it might be a Salsa’s night. It’s not even 2 and I can’t bring myself to figure out supper. We’ll see what my sweetie says.
For now, chillage.
Holy crap! I just heard from an old acquaintance from my Seabee days. We worked together for a time in the service and then again for a private contractor after we retired. He always considered me to be a friend, while I tried to keep him and his bullshit at arm’s length without offending him. I honestly thought that - given his lifestyle - he would have been dead by now. Last time I heard from him was in about 2002 or so. What a world.
I see by the ol’ map on the screen that Wifey, RN is about to go feet-dry over the Yucatan Peninsula.
a good shred day at the office. 8 bags! hours of fun and book reading.
i’ve decided to forgo the usual grocery run tonight. i’ll deal with the bit higher prices at acme tomorrow. my back needs chair and couch time.
Is it still Monday? Oy - what a week. We had the Band Winter concert on Tuesday. The new director kept Sarajevo on the program, to everyone’s relief. After the number, Mrs Magill turned to me and said, “It’s now Christmas.”
Wednesday, I did the shopping while Mrs Magill attended the Middle School concert to meet the rising freshmen parents, so (hopefully) they’ll feel a little more welcome and maybe volunteer for the Band next year.
Last night, I got to play D&D! It’s been a few months since our last session, and we’d had a flood in our basement, so everything was in storage and I could not prep the game. After the basement was rebuilt, it was football band season. And then… well… Dungeons and Dragons is actually a scheduling sim with a TTRPG lobby.
I’ve got a start date for therapy. I’m hoping that just talking to someone will help. Mid-January cannot come fast enough.
Was a short day at the museum. I’m getting into this work 45 minutes extra 4 days and get out early on Firday thing. We dog parked, but Ms Peach couldn’t get anyone to chase her except Pickles, who wanted to hump. Then Waffles showed up, who is usually good for a run, but she wasn’t feeling it today. There seem to be a lot of food named dogs who visit the park. I know way more dog names than owner names.
We had our meeting with our money guy Friday and the news was very good.
Howdy Y’all! I did my duty and then had quality RDOS sloth time that included nappage and day drinkin’. Then I fixed a most excellent sup if I do say so myself. OYKW insisted on doin’ all the cleanup, tellin’ me I did my part already. Plus there’s leftovers for tomorrow.
BooFae hope goin’ part time works out. I hate meetin’s like you described. Yet another reason why I love bein’ a RDOS.
VanGo I would bet you’re mostly known at the dog park as Ms. Peach’s human. I wouldn’t remember people names, but would know all the doggo names.
And a good early afternoon to all. The puzzle-solving (got about 95% of the NY Times Mega-Crossword done but the last 30-40 clues are going to take some work) and gym-sweating (1,300 calories!) have been done and rewarded myself with some Second breakfast pancakes and bacon. Big Bowl O’Sallit will come a bit later tonight. Mail brought me a bill from Medicare for a "Premium Bill’ totalling…$14.50, so I guess I can afford that. First time in my memory I’ve gotten something like this so will see if anything else transpires. 46F now and due to get to 60F tomorrow, but then the thermometer is due to drop a lot for a few days.
puzzlegal, after all, that’s why mankind domesticated (for various degrees of domestication) cats, to get rid of the mice.
doggio, glad the idiot missed you, they’ll probably find someone to have a wreck with…
Cookie, a wind chill of -30F? No way in he…heck would I be going out…wouldn’t be surprised if they cancelled the market too. And old acquaintance sounds like he should be forgot…
Flyboy, best wishes to Wifey, RN. I know she is probably being escorted and all, but still that is unsettled territory.
rocky, that is one heavy-duty shredder you must have there.
Maus, good to hear from ya, sounds like things are going well at present, hope the D&D becomes a regular activity in your life.
As it should be…
Hippie, Yay! for the positive $$$ news.
And that’s all for now, need to move forward on my internettin’ so I can get to bed at a reasonable hour since the alarm will be set for 6:30am.
Up from naptime. Having a Cuba Libré, with spicy catfish, lime cilnatro rice, and sauteed corn, peppers, and tomatoes with a serrano pepper. The long sleve shirts I ordered from Jiffy shirts arrived today. Good thing, because the windchill for going to work Monday morning is supposed to be 12.
Gotta know the important things.
There’s a Far Side cartoon for every scientific disapline:
Yay!
Probably one of the BMW 3 Series drivers that server into oncoming traffic at high speed(Almost hit by a couple)
But did you make your saving throws, or were you eaten by a Gelatinous Cube?
Yes, they will be escorted.
I got a text from her about a half an hour after she took off. No replies to other texts I sent her. I saw that her plane landed safely. I’m guessing it was a lot of running around, gathering her stuff, meeting up with the others, and getting to the hotel. She may have just gotten to her (shared) room and crashed.
I went down the beach and a woman and her husband showed me how to play cribbage. They’ve only been playing for about six months, but she’s a teacher and he’s an engineer so it was all good. I think I’ve got the basics down. We played one game, and I won. ![]()
18:30. I should probably find something for dinner.
And… Goo just went back and attacked Findus.
(He’s OK. But Goo has got to stop that.)
And… That’s that for the Thanksgiving turkey. I made a very thick sandwich. I tossed the stuffing this morning, since I won’t eat it and The Spousal Unit won’t want it.
And true to my previous message, I have done nothing of consequence except watch a couple of You Tube vids and browse around the SDMD site. It’s 10pm and will head off to bed here in a minute after setting the alarm for 6:30am. My guess is my bladder will get me up before that, but you never know…
I’ll be back in touch when I can tomorrow, everyone have a good Sattiday.
I’m catching up on NCIS episodes that I’ve been recording for like a year. The one I’m watching just got interrupted by an emergency alert… but I thought it was from last year, so I don’t know what it was about.
The cats were having fun chasing the red dot, but I think I vapor-locked what brain Kasya has at her age when I put the dot on Buddy’s front paw. ![]()
She did seem to grasp that pouncing on him might not be a good decision, but she really wanted that dot. ![]()
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 27 degrees Ferret Height(-2.78 Centipedes)
