(Old) It's Gonna Snow? Oh No! Oh No! Oh No!- A Winter MMP

“Cheated” on work and got a good sub from the indie place up the block. No lie, their sandwiches are way better than ours, but we’re open a lot later.

Walked in, and heard, “they let you mess around other places while wearing that pizza shirt?” and I was like, uh, yup.

Heck, we’ve thrown in crew orders together so someone can go get a mess of Chinese food, or hot dawgs.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 5c/41f with a predicted high of 8c/46f and partly cloudy. Weather apps says “Be glad the weather isn’t the same as fucking social media. If it was, we’d have fucking six feet of bullshit blowing everywhere.”

Yesterday was relatively uneventful aside from the shitshow meeting (at least writing the minutes won’t take long!), I had another meeting in the afternoon with a colleague where we spent about five minutes discussing what we needed to, agreed on something we both wanted to do, and then spent the rest of the time talking about non-work stuff.

My commute home was slightly delayed as the train from campus got held up at the intervening station because there was a train at Big City Station that was on fire! Lots of delayed trains on the board, but I caught one that starts and ends in Big City Station so that was unaffected by the drama.

Today I was up relatively early, I have tended to the needs of cats (Muffin was quite fussy today), got myself reasonably presentable, had some breakfast and once I’ve finished this, I’ll be heading out to the Horrible Big Shopping Centre to do a couple of hours fundraising for Little Paws. Back home after that, quick lunch, then into town for some errands. We need to eat early so we’re planning on chippy tea, then we’re off to the Giffard to see a couple of bands.

Take care of yourselves, and keep your feet dry!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 44 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 71 and sunny. Today will be devoted to high RDOS inactivities. Nowhere we either need or want to be. No kolledge football today so no screens will be barked or yelled at. Sup will be nuked up leftovers.

MetalMouse have fun herdin’ young’uns. Better thee than me.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Happy Saturday!

Today, we begin sitting up on the side of the bed for meals. I still need a little help getting into that position, I can put myself back down. One of the things that limits me walking is getting light headed when upright very long. Hopefully, this will acclimate me.

Apparently, weather-guessers predicting for our local area are covering all bases. We could get anywhere from barely half an inch to 3" of snow by tomorrow. Or not. At least it’s not supposed to start till late today or overnight, so it shouldn’t affect our gutter cleaner. He’s supposed to get here by noon.

Once he’s done, I head over to Daughter’s to help her put up the plastic sheeting over her windows. That should help their electric bill a LOT. She was telling me yesterday that by switching ISP and changing their phone service, they’re going to be almost $300 better than they were! And she intends to put much of that in savings to build up a cushion again. So, at least for now, they’ve learned. She also sent me a screenshot of the automatic payment that’ll be coming to us starting next month. I think a chunk of this is embarrassment at having to ask us for help. No matter - they’re on the right track.

I have a few little chores before the gutter guy shows up and the first one is done - I refilled the pellet stove. Go me! The rest will wait till I’ve showered and dressed. Gotta pace myself.

I think my mouse is getting wonky. It’s a wired one, so it’s not a bluetooth issue. And being optical, there’s no gunky ball to clean. Maybe it’s just worn out and ready to quit. Or it could be the computer - it’s been wonky, too. I wonder if it’s worth taking it in to get a once-over? Maybe I’ll call the computer guys and see what they say.

For now, tho, caffeination continues. Cereal has been ingested. Ziva has had her treats. FCD is still abed, as is Otis. My quiet time shan’t last much longer, but for now, I shall relish it.

Happy Saturday!

Morning all. Up and broken fast and will shortly get dressed appropriate to indoor soccer and venture forth. Something is going on from 8am to 4pm today so might be a long day with the kids, depending on how many come out. It’s 36F heading to 63F so they could almost play outdoors this afternoon, but rules is rules. Supposed to get much cooler tomorrow.

Nettie, thanks for the morning grin.

doggio, happy heaving.

shoe, wish I could find a local place for a good sub, the Jersey Mike’s just ain’t doing it anymore and it is still better than the other chains.

boo fae, hope the fund-raising went well and the music is good.

red, small steps but important ones. Keep doing better!

FCM, glad Daughter and SIL are off to a good start on economizing…now if they can make it a habit instead of a once-off… As for the mouse, I use a wireless one (hard to find a wired one anymore) and they are not really that expensive (unless you have one of the fancy gaming ones) so your call.

And time to get dressed. Have a good day all.

Good morning.

It’s 43°F and partly cloudy. The day will be partly cloudy with some sun, and the daytime high will reach 53°F. So, we have a brief reprieve until the next atmospheric river moves in on Monday. However, for now, some rivers have receded a bit, and some folks who had to evacuate can go back home.

Hoping Lily and Bright Tree are okay, too.

Johnny, I hope all continues to be well with your wife. I’m glad she landed safely.

Doggio, glad the dumb*** missed you.

Metal Mouse, I don’t know if I’m becoming jaded as I age, or if restaurants are serving cheaper quality ingredients. It seems like restaurants rarely impress me anymore. It’s a shame. I think Jersey Mike’s has gone downhill, too.

I got most of the grandkids’ Christmas presents ordered yesterday. I only need to order jammies and an outfit, and then I’m done with them. I guess I’ll get something food-based for my daughter and son-in-law. I can buy something local for my son, so I’ll probably take care of that this coming week.

My husband ordered a new building for my village as a surprise for me, so I set that up yesterday. It looks nice.

I don’t think we’ll do much of anything today, other than the usual tidying. My husband was making noises about taking a bike ride down on the Foothills Trail, but that area got flooded, and I know portions of it were still underwater yesterday. One of the trailhead parking lots (not where we park) was under three feet of water on Thursday.

It’s time to finish my coffee and knock out some more Christmas shopping. Please take care of yourselves.

Dishwasher emptied and name board lettering touched up. The gutter cleaner should be here in about 90 minutes or so. Till then, not much to be done. I’m thinking chillage!

MetalMouse - I think they got scared enough about their financials that they’ll really make the effort. I was pleased to see that both of them were working on it. SIL found them the ISP deal and downgraded their phone service. Daughter has been working on the budget and setting up their accounts so they know what they can play with and what is not to be touched. So, fingers crossed.

As for subs, this may sound weird, but our WaWa and Sheetz both do pretty decent subs. You might want to check out local convenience chains - who knows? FCD really likes Firehouse Subs. I find most subs are just too doggone big for me, and they’re not all that great leftover.

We didn’t go out for supper last night. I finished off the bean soup and FCD had red beans and rice. Neither of us wanted to leave the house, so it worked out. But maybe tonight?? Or maybe I’ll pick something up on the way home from Daughter’s house. What will we do? Tune in to find out…

red - are you avoiding boredom, what with not having your studio to play in? Apart from being awakened for vitals in the middle of the night, boredom was always the worst part of being hospitalized.

All the western flooding is scary. We live 126’ above sea level (according to whatsmyelevation dot com) but several of the roads around here that cross creeks have been flooded in the past as well as some low-lying parking lots and businesses. It’s got to be awful to have a house or store in 3 or 4 feet of water.

OK, time to chill.

Only 45K today, so they started sending the seasonal Blueberries home early. I ended up covering 6 trucks for the Air Shuttle.
PT Sup: “Did you want to take a voluntary layoff on December 26th.”
Me: “No, I’ll work. My cat needs gin.”
It was a balmy 40 degrees Ferret Height on the drive home. But i’ve laundered, injested bacon, eggs, and a glass of port, and now it’s naptime.

Depends on how old. I replaced my 9 year old one, and the diffrence is night and day.

0 degrees F at 1130 in the A & M. Apartment heater and portable heaters all running.

We had latkes and Polish sausage for breakfast, neither of which were very good. Why is it that latkes always sound better than they actually taste? Anyway, a very heavy meal that will take most of the day to digest.

I’m going to spring into action when I finish this and get some cookie dough prepared for tomorrow’s cookie-making bash with my daughter. Well, “spring” is probably not a good descriptive after that breakfast. Waddle, maybe.

Mrs. Nott is off to a caroling event this afternoon. She sings very well. I do not, so I didn’t go.

Ms Peach was a handful at dog class today. She just wanted to play with the other dogs and not do any of the training stuff. Managed to wiggle out of her harness twice.

We’re soon off to the park so she can run around like a moron and get some energy out.

Cookie doughs and a huge mess are made. Did a double batch of one and a triple batch of the other. My counter space is severely limited, especially since the wife has plants on some of it, and much of what little there is is covered by small appliances, cutting boards, a knife block, and containers of commonly used things like salt, pepper, sugar, oil, butter, etc. I figure this leaves me with something like two-to-three square feet of workspace. I also use the stovetop, so that helps.

I just sorted out my seed collection, as part of gardening planning for next year. I did a spreadsheet 'n everything with the best sowing months so I can feebly attempt to be more organised.

This took me a while, as, discounting the ones I’ve finally given up on as too old to germinate, I have so far found 125 packs. A few are home saved or swapped with friends, or were freebies with magazines, not bought, and many were bought on clearance for pennies anyway, so they don’t really count, right?

Pretty sure there’s a few more around too, though only self-saved ones at least.

So guess what I plan to buy in the next week or so?? (Hey, I identified a few gaps! Also some you need to buy fresh annually!)

I’m considering moving to Svalbard and setting up a competitor.

I went to Costco to procure a Christmas roast. The smallest one they had was over ten pounds, and cost over $170. There are only two of us, and I usually get a four and a half- to five-pound roast. I had to go to the local supermarket on the way home for Carb Balance tortillas and a couple of other things, and they had one bone-in rib roast. It was a bit over five pounds, and it was ‘only’ $104 or so.

Isn’t it amazing the difference in carriers? When I moved, I made the switch and with just one mobile line, saved $100 a month.

I always keep a spare for when one craps out on me.

I’ve been reading voraciously and watching a metric shit ton o videos.

I talked to Dad for a couple of hours today. I’ve napped and read.

Maddening, isn’t it? Many years ago I decided to do a crown roast for Christmas. I went to a local butcher (not a grocer) and asked him to put together the smallest roast he could for the purpose. Got it home and roasted it. When I cut into it, it was all fat, bone and gristle. $80 down the drain. Pissed off? Oh, yeah.

Dinner tonight was Alaska sockeye salmon, pan fried and glazed with orange marmalade.

I was thinking it was a little cool in the house. I finally remembered that I’d turned the thermostat all the way down, since Abbey was out in the catio and she never shuts it after she pushes it open to come in. I’ve turned it up to 65ºF.

Good afternoon all. Left the house about 7:30am and except for a 20-minute break around 1pm didn’t get home until 4:30pm. Lots of soccer with the 7-12 year old bunch, mostly refereeing but some coaching. Back home and not planning on moving much save to fix my Big Bowl O’Pasta a little later tonight. Could have almost played outdoors, the sun was out and it did reach 66F today, but spent it inside. But the bottom of the thermometer gets its turn tonight, low will be about 22F and barely reach freezing tomorrow. So was thinking about going out tonight and see if I could spot any meteors, but I think I’ll have to pass on that…

Taters, most of the casual sit-down places are OK (dropped Cracker Barrel and Outback some time ago) but yeah, the food isn’t that great…only thing I really get enthusiastic about are 5 Guys Fries and those are a Caloric Sinkhole so I don’t get them very often. Glad the Xmas shopping is pretty much done, I need to get some Chewy cards for the assorted pets my family/neighbors have, but I can do that locally at the Kroger’s (and earn Fuel Points).

FCM, sounds like responsibility is taking hold…good for them. No Wawa or Sheetz here but might check out Circle K. I’ve tried Firehouse subs but just not quite my taste. And thanks for the whatsmyelevation site; found out I am around 600’ above sea level, so should be ok from any non-meteoroid caused tsunami…

cookie, happy cookie making (and happy waddling!).

Knots, I don’t sing well either, but I can sing loud..

Nut, sounds like some planting is in your future for 2026…

flyboy, I don’t buy them, but :scream: on the rib roast prices…that’s $17/$20 a pound!

And onward in catching up with my needed slothage.

Howdy Y’all! We have been the slothiest of sloths today. Snails and tortoises would have lapped us several times. I do believe we set a new record for RDOS inactivities. I have read, watched trashy and stoopid stuff, achieved nappage and day drank. OYKW lolled about in his recliner, watched trashy and stoopid stuff, achieved nappage and day drank. The only real effort made was to nuke sup and put the dirty stuff in the dishwasher. Now I shall see whatup on teh intartoobz.
