(Old) It's Gonna Snow? Oh No! Oh No! Oh No!- A Winter MMP

It looks like what we have here, is a failure to communicate.

I got a ‘Good morning’ text from The Missus at 02:30. I replied at 05:50 when I got up. Nothing all day, until an ‘Are there?’ text at 15:13 (about half an hour ago). I said I’m here, asked what she did today, and finally ‘Are you there?’ Eventually I got one that asked, ‘Are you getting my text?’

I sent her an email. I’ll try messaging her on Facebook. I’m wondering if connectivity isn’t all that great in San Salvador (or wherever she is).

:+1:

Currently 38 ferrets (3 centipedes); predicted overnight low 26 ferrets, high tomorrow 31. 100% chance of snow tonight, easing off to 80% tomorrow. Supposedly 1-3" tonight, and another 1-3" tomorrow, so I’m expecting maybe 1-2 inches total. That’s a start, anyway…

Hello, hello, I’m here!

red, it sounds like you’re making excellent progress. I’m just sorry it’s all taking so long. I’m still gobsmacked that you went from living a normal life and facilitating a cross-country move just a few weeks ago to being incapacitated and bed bound, all due to an affliction I’ve never heard of. Scary, and I’m just so damned relieved you’re on the mend.

boo fae, hope you enjoyed the fundraising and are now into the most pleasant part of your day, watching bands! Chippy tea sounds delightful, too.

I will join you in hoping all is well with Lily and thank you for asking after me. I’m usually around but don’t always feel like cluttering up the MMP – my life isn’t nearly as interesting as that of others here!

Awesome that you’ve already got your holiday gift-giving handled. Not surprising, though. You’re one of the most organized people I’ve ever had the pleasure of learning from.

Lucky Spot, to be such a priority in someone’s life!

metal mouse, not much fun spotting meteors when you’re freezing your tuchus off. Wise decision you made.

swampy, you are my spirit animal in all things RDOS. Well done today, you!

Van Go, sounds like Miz Peach needs to head to the dog park before going to dog class! She’s a handful, for sure. Hang in there – it gets better.

flyboy, hope the communications issue improves soon. It will be hard not to worry if you can’t check in with your beloved spouse regularly. Try to keep good thoughts – I’m sure she’s fine.

It’s been a busy week that doesn’t feel terribly productive. Lots of little chores and some time wasters.

I finally tore into the guts of my automatic gate, a chore I’ve managed to postpone for several weeks, to see if it was a quick fix and… it wasn’t. I guess it will be a manual gate for awhile until I can decide on next steps. I may commandeer my kitchen table to take the armature apart and give it a good clean-up over a few days weeks. I also need to purchase some materials to replace a worn cable that keeps the gate balanced. It’s all going to take time and it is work I don’t do every day, so an AFGO (Another Fucking Growth Opportunity). I don’t love them.

Got my reprovisioning done yesterday, so I’m set for awhile except for periodic forays for fresh veg. I also spent time visiting with friends and made arrangements to have my right front headlight replaced. See? Life is a thrill a minute here!

As for weather, we’ve had unseasonably warm temperatures all week owing to a tropical atmospheric river passing through. Lots of rain, highs in the low 60s and lows in the mid 50s. (!!!) All the years I’ve lived here, the first couple weeks of December were the ones to watch for sub-freezing temperatures that could result in frozen or broken pipes, so the current weather situation is, well, disturbing. But it is what it is.

Ollie is well and we do seem to have solved his itching issues for the most part. Still, I think I’m going to switch him from a regiment of ½ an Apoquel tablet every other day to a daily dose of Zenrellia. I will hear what his vet has to say first, though. At least I’m only bathing him now about once a week. We’re both glad of that!

Take care, all, and I’ll try to be more regularly in touch.

She just called me on the landline. Long line for the pharmacy, so the nurses were a little slow at that point and the pharmacists were running around all over the place. She said that the mission took place in a covered courtyard. She said there were cats there, and one looked just like Findus. She saw two dogs, too. One more day. After we hung up, my mobile rang. It was she, on Facetime. AFAIK, she’s never used that before. Anyway, she’d accidentally called me that time.

Hello all! I read through some of the thread but couldn’t follow everything.

SenBoy had a futsal tournament yesterday. They just started their club in the summer so there wasn’t any expectation of winning. Instead, we were really happy that they tried hard.

About six weeks ago, the played one of the teams and got slaughtered 23 to zero. Yesterday they lost six to zero, so they are making progress. They should go better next year.

We are at a Sunday Christmas concert and SenGirl played a song on the piano. She took lessons for a while. It hasn’t practiced recently. She still did alright.

Hey everyone. I’ve read and slightly retained, but I’m counting.

@missred Back when Hubs was in the USMC, he ended up in traction for a while. He said that it took them three days to get him able to sit up by himself and he was still getting dizzy for a couple of weeks afterwards. So, you are doing good and this is to be expected after so long on your back.

He did say that he probably would have worked a lot harder if he was looking forward to going home to a cute and cuddly dog instead of going back to the barracks with a shouting Master Sgt.

That was one of the few sentences he’s said today, he’s been gaming so much he didn’t even take his afternoon nap!

I have of course taken the time to stitch and once I got started, well, not much else happened.

I did change the bed, did a couple of loads of laundry, dusted everything including the dresser drawer handles and door sills, then swept and mopped all of the wood floors.

The interwebs said I should put chopped celery in a chicken cavity before roasting it to keep it moist, and I tried that tonight (along with half a cup of butter under the skin and in both cavities.) Hubs used more words and said he thought it was good.

The chicken has been cut up and the bones and stuff are in the slow cooker to turn into stock, but that process was a little messy so the kitchen floor got mopped. That lovely white tile shows every single drop of water :frowning:

Now I’m showered and in jammies. I have my pipe and my ‘shine and have another corner to work on, so that’s how I’ll be spending my evening.

The weather guessers have promised (90% chance) snow but it is almost 2145 and 34F so I’m not holding my breath.

Stay warm everyone, I’ll probably check in before heading to the capital tomorrow.

Spot stomped me awake from nap. I had a Vieux Carré, and Asian BBQ Stirfry for dinner(kicked up with Mongolian Fire Oil, Sichuan peppercorns, and a Serano pepper). Canes won in a shootout.

I’ve have been asked to not sing.

CatMom asked me to sleep with Findus tonight… with the door closed. I slept with him last night with the door open. Goo attacked him in the wee hours (and I shut the door).

Hella kerfluffle between Sprinkles and one of the teenagers tonight. He acted like he was in charge, again, (this has been an ongoing problem …nineteen or so & way too much testosterone & caffeine) and dressed her down, rudely, in front of the entire crew … over how she was sweeping the floor.

Like, dude, first, you are not her boss (or anyone’s boss) and second, if you wanna say something about a coworker mistake, do it discreetly. Don’t be a noisy duckface about it. We all catch each other’s oopsies (“sweetheart, that was supposed to be a medium …”) but try to maybe not be a … word I shouldn’t use outside the Pit?

Third, it’s not like she was taking down the Titanic. We’re talking about sweeping a floor. Chill, man.

S.M. was out sick, and I didn’t hear most of what went down, but I did hear after she left in near-tears Alternate Manager very sternly say to him, as the rest of the crew was baldly eavesdropping, “NEVER do that again” and this dumbass kept pushing back about what he said to her, so it’ll be interesting to see how THIS nonsense plays out.

Might need popcorn.

When the phone rang earlier, I looked at the caller ID to see if it was for Mrs. L.A. … forgetting for an instant that she’s not here. (And as I said, it was she calling.) I’m watching a movie on TV. I keep wanting to turn down the volume during commercials, because that’s what she does.

Just after 11pm, been up 17 hours without nappage so this will be a very short late night final. Have done nothing of consequence except eat and play dish tetris with the dishwasher, will run it tomorrow morning. Temperature is still 45F so the Big Chill hasn;t appeared yet, but the Weather Wizards still say it is coming. That big comforter is looking quite inviting.

swampy, your today sounds like my Sunday, outside of going out for dinner.

Flyboy, glad you established communication with Wifey,

Herald, interesting to see exactly how much snow you do get…the weather folks predictions or yours…

Bright Tree, most anything is interesting here in the MMP, don’t feel like you have to do anything to qualify. Afterall, the broken gate saga is now a continuing storyline we Mumpers will be following…hope it stays warm but the predictions around the nation indicate a lot of folks are about to get cold. Best wishes to Ollie.

Sensei, glad SenBoy and his team didn’t get discouraged, they will continue to improve, I am sure of it.

shoe, sounds like that teenager needs an attitude adjustment and I suspect S.M will inisit upon it or he’ll need to find alternate employment…

And time to head off to slumberland. Catch y’all on Sunday.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 52 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 59 and cloudy/windy. Temps will be droppin’ over the next couple of days. TWPTB are in a tizzy and issuin’ a hard freeze watch for Tuesday. Seriously I keep gettin’ notifications about it. TWPTB are all but clutchin’ pearls and fallin’ on faintin’ couches. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I yet again have verger duty. Other verger is dealin’ with her husband and his health problems right now, so I have no problems with doin’ the church stuff. Afterwards it will be back to da cave for a sammich lunch, nappage and assorted RDOS inactivities. This is an any need to feed will be via forage kinda day.

FlyBoy glad you were able to finally communicate with the missus.

shoe sounds like somebody may be given the opportunity to seek other employment opportunities.

BrightTree glad I can be an inspiration. Also, glad to know you maybe onto a solution for Ollie’s itchies, We shall all await the continuation of the saga of the gate. This is some fascinatin’ MMP stuff!

MetalMouse glad you survived the day. You have more than earned a day of RDOS inactivities.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. It’s a balmy 46 degrees Ferret Height(7.77 Centipedes) outside. I shall clean in the morning, and watch hockey in the afternoon.

Indeed. And teenager needs a clue by four.

Well, bladder decided I needed to be up at 5:30am so I just started the dishwasher and did a couple of other things, so no going back to bed for the Rat. It’s 24F and windy outside so I expect the wind chill factor is close to ‘get out the heavy coat’ levels, which I will do when I do the NY Times Sunday Paper run. Nappage is a definite possibility later on.

swampy, it seems to me you are becoming the semi-permanent Verger there; enjoy your RDOS activities.

More later as life occurs.

It did snow and it continues, tho there’s barely half an inch so far. Accuweather is still saying 1-3", but it’s also saying snow will end in 90-ish minutes. Ain’t gonna happen. NOAA says less than an inch. I think they’ll win the accumulation prize for this “storm.”

My main chore today will involve me in the basement with Cetol, so I have that to look forward to. And we didn’t go out to eat yesterday, so maybe today? Or not? Who can say… I did get the kids’ gifts wrapped yesterday, and there are a couple more due to be delivered sometime soon. I always give my niece’s boys $50 for their college accounts (they have soooooooo many toys) and that will necessitate a trip to the credit union for a couple of crisp bills.

I can’t believe Christmas is next week! I lost a week in there somewhere along the line. I’ll have the grands next Tuesday - I bought an ornament-with-stickers kit for them to make gifts for their parent and whoever else. I’ll also have them between Christmas and New Years for a couple of nights and a couple of days. Daughter will be going to Akron for a reunion with 3 of her high school buds (they all turned 40 this year) and SIL has to work, so I agreed to wrangle during school break. Rah.

Idiot Otis came almost nose-to-nose with Ziva (I’m told - I was in the other room) and she kept him back. Hard to believe 60+ pounds of insanity is cowed by 11 pounds of hissing fur, but he is. I can’t help but wonder how he and Taz would have gotten along.

And so my day begins. A bit more reading, then I’ll don the nitrile gloves and get to work on the teak. Envy me!!

Happy Sunday!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/48f with a predicted high of 10c/51f and cloudy. Weather app says “Overcast and fucking dreary. Probably a fucking good day to stay in bed.”

She didn’t want to go to school? Can’t say I blame her either

That’s very organised of you, and I’m sure you don’t really have enough seeds yet. You don’t want any gaps out there!

That sounds like an ideal day to me, although I know having to stay in the horsepistol would drive me up the wall with boredom!

I am 160m/525ft above sea level. Fortunately I live in the middle of Middle England so pretty much as far away from the coast as it’s possible to get!

That’s good news - you see, you do need to come in here regularly and give us Ollie updates! You’ve even upped the game with a gate saga for us to follow.

I hope Goo and Abbey eventually accept Findus as another member of the family. I’ve occasionally been woken in the night by yowling, which tells me that Muffin is still not happy with Cherry’s regular incursions in the “her” territory.

Sounds like you had some entertainment there! I hope Sprinkles learns to behave better, and take his complaints to the boss instead of airing them in public like that. And all over sweeping a floor? If that’s the only thing he’s got to be annoyed about, I wish I’d got that kind of life!

Sensei I hope SenBoy regards it as an improvement to have not lost by so much this time round. As long as he enjoys the game, that’s what matters.

Yesterday was a very busy day for me. All the day jobs got done, chippy tea was ingested and I had to share my fish with Cherry. After that, I summoned an Uber and Ibrahim drove us into town. The Giffard was busier than I’ve seen it in a while but we got served quickly and went upstairs to see the first of the night’s three bands.

We went back down to the main bar afterwards and talked to a couple that we’d met before (he came up to us and said “we don’t know you, but we see you everywhere”!), turn out they live in Wales and had travelled 4.5hrs to be at the Giff. We chatted about a venue that’s much closer to them which we’ve been to once but never returned because accommodation is virtually non-existent in that town. They gave us the name of a local hotel that’s about 6 minutes away by cab, so the Tivoli is back on the cards!

The other two bands were both really good, the headline band just about blew the roof off! We stayed around afterwards chatting to people, got FB-friended by someone who invited us to her husband’s birthday party next year, signed the singer’s guitar, then ended up sitting outside talking to random strangers, as you do. We were home by 3am, so that’s a win for us.

No plans for today though, apart from tending to the needs of cats, and making something for dinner tonight.

Update: it is raining. I have to fill the feeder for the 3rd time this week. That tree rat keeps eating like that, he’s gonna get his own Oompa Loompa song.
:notes:Oompa Loompa doopity whirl
We’re rolling around a morbidly obese squirrel…
:notes:

Good morning.

It’s dark, 46°F, and cloudy. We are expecting morning rain showers, an overcast afternoon, a daytime high around 55°F, and rain moving back in by around 11:00 p.m. tonight. Although yesterday was dry, and some rivers have receded a little, others remain high.

I am jealous of those of you with cold temperatures and snow. It’s ridiculously warm for this time of year and we need a freeze to kill off the damn bugs.

Johnny, I’m glad you and your wife finally got to speak.

Bright Tree, I look forward to hearing about the gate fix. I love the AFGO terminology. I would have shared that at work!

Shoe, that boy needs a whack upside the head with a clue by four. Makes you wonder how he treats his girlfriends.

Boo Fae, it sounds like a fun time, and I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Red, yay for sitting up. I hope the progress continues and that the dizziness from sitting up passes quickly.

I can’t say there will be much going on here today. It’ll contain full-on RDOS sloth, and that’s about it.

You all take care!

Their “100%” prediction for yesterday barely made it – no snow by the time I went to bed (elevenish), but the three-day hourly summary says it was snowing at 2356. Still coming down (today’s forecast has been upped to 90%); snowcap on the porch railing appears to be around three inches thus far.
