Congratulations!
Yes, hooray for the job!!
I’m guilty of not putting coffee in the coffeemaker, and brewing a pot of hot water. Happens about once a month!
I had a friend visiting and once she made a cup of coffee in my Keurig and forgot about it. After a while she remembered it, by which time it had gotten cold, so she put it in the microwave to reheat it, then forgot about it again. I went to heat something in the microwave and found her coffee cup in it. Of course, by this time her coffee was cold again.
No evening job. It was overlapping hours and 6 hour shifts. I too old. At least I have the morning one.
Ex’s brother texted me last night saying he didnt have any money(not true) his dads broke(true) and ex doesnt. Told me to give up on any money from them.
I remember seeing stuff like Twizzlers and similar candies labelled “Fat free”. Yeah, that makes them so much healthier!
I personally recommend keeping the marbles in their original bag, in a specific location (if you’re someone who carries a purse or other such tool, keep 'em there). I once had some left over from a Cub Scout meeting with my son. Forgot about them, until a day or two later at the office. I grabbed the bag, walked over to a co-worker’s desk, plunked the bag down, and announced loudly “It’s NOT TRUE. I know EXACTLY where they are!”.
Not a coffee drinker here, but I do occasionally brew a cup of tea or Crio-Bru. I’ll usually drink about half before I forget about it. And when I pop open a hard cider in an evening - a rare occurrence - I’ll usually glance at the bottle 3 hours later, maybe 2/3 full, and grumble “if I’m trying to become an alcoholic, I’m doing it wrong!”.
Re the coffee: I think it’s an intrinsic absurdity of life that the product you need (caffeine) in order to successfully function - like, remembering how to brew coffee - is something you can not HAVE until you’ve successfully brewed the coffee. Kind of like not being able to find your glasses because you cannot see well enough to find them.
Me? I’m just an old man ( low on Charisma ) who walks around a local park minding his own business. Often there are heavy weight Goons and younger lighter weight Goons who are more than happy to try to start fights with an older man who they can rob.
I keep some marbles in my pockets too because it’s rare that I can out run them.
This may be the funniest thing I’ve ever read on the SDMB. This is how I might announce my retirement. THAT would keep follow up calls from coming.
“I didn’t lose my marbles, they’re right here!. Take them!”
Damn it, CBS Evening News today: “The Price is Right ending historic run” and quotes Drew Carey as saying “I’m the last one to host the Price is Right here” (or some such). Oh no, the end of the show? Nope, they’re just leaving the stage that they’ve been using and moving to Glendale. They just about gave me a heart attack!
The price is right but the headline is misleading.
Today is my son’s second birthday. We have very few friends, none that can be here today or on Saturday. I haven’t been able to make friends with any of the parents of my son’s friends from daycare because I’m a horribly awkward person (hence the lack of friends) so we aren’t really having a party. On top of that, his presents I bought him got damaged in shipping and won’t be arriving in time. But at least I got a cake.
He’s only two, he won’t remember. But I feel like a failure.
Decorate and take lots of pictures! You’re right, he won’t remember. Don’t have the party until the presents arrive, because he won’t know any different (unless you tell him the day of.)
You’re not a failure. Things happen.
When my son was little we had parties at the daycare, with a captive group of little ones.
“So, how are we going to get to Glendale from Television City?”
“A New Car…!” < background cheering >
They say that a debris field has been sighted around the area of the wreck of The Titanic… and that it contains parts of the submersible. So… the Billionaire who earned his money Wreaking Havok and suffering on the lives of his employees by cutting safety corners and treating them as nothing but cheap mindless soulless replaceable cogs, has died from his own hateful cost cutting measures…?
Well, what can be said?
The OceanGate CEO was no billionaire. His passengers were mostly billionaires. Doubtless with skullduggery and exploitation aplenty in their various rises to riches. But they weren’t hoist by their own petard.
I agree there’s certainly justice in Rush dying by his own hand from his own hubris so to speak. Far better him than a hapless employee.
You are not, in any way, shape or form! Repeat that to yourself 3 times.
My grandson turned 2 this past Saturday. No party for him because Wednesday he got sent home from daycare with a fever. Turned out he had hand, foot and mouth disease. Which is so contagious and unpleasant that only his parents and nurse Grandma were around him the rest of the week. Party with family was cancelled. No birthday festivities yet. His 6yo sister (who had the nasty disease 3 years ago and therefore immune) filled up a dozen latex balloons in pretty colors and batted them into his crib on the morning of his birthday, which got big smiles from him. His mom took a fun picture, which will enter family lore and many stories will be told of the birthday that wasn’t. He was celebrated, the photo was shared with people who loved him and he has a great story to tell. And you are absolutely right, a two year old doesn’t know if their birthday was held on exactly the right day. They know if they are loved and over time if they are celebrated. Days later have a fun time playing in the water sprinkler, let him have his fill of cupcakes with sprinkles and take a few pictures of his ‘birthday’ celebration to show him in years to come. Love is the message, not the calendar.
Worked today. Only 3 hours. He had me mopping, and doing dishes. I asked for a second shirt, he said Wait and see if you stay working here. He wouldnt give me a clock in, same reason, which bothers me, he could theoretically not pay me.
I worked other places, even when I didnt stay there long, I was given a clock in i.d.
And pay day is in 2 weeks.
That sounds very dodgy. Keep records: the state’s labor board might be able to help you if things go south.
Okay. I messaged him on Whatsapp. He said You will get paid for hours worked, ask any employee. If you dont trust that then you dont need to work here.
Well.
