When I had recovered enough to be interested in food/drink, ginger ale seemed to help. No ice, though, that made it too cold for my tummy.

I really hope he gets better soon, this was an icky one.

I believe that tow companies are more than willing to work under those constraints as long as it is the property owner or agent that signs the contract. The property owner can choose to allow the tow company to patrol and/or the parking spot owner to call for a tow. (I used to know folks in the business - one of them made good money cruising condo parking lots looking for untagged vehicles. That was one of his favorite things to do at three in the morning, especially on Friday and Saturdays.)

My mother was a grad school teacher. She started every day with a plan. Sometimes that plan lasted as long as an hour, LOL!

You aren’t unprepared, things just didn’t follow the plan.

I’m not due another covid shot until November sue to me being late last year, but I suppose I could go and get a flu shot this week. I know that what’s been going around isn’t a flu at all, there were no respiratory symptoms at all, it was all intestinal. Ya hear that, VanGo? Get your flu shot, there’s still nasty bugs out there for us to suffer.

So I’m waiting on the painter to call, he wasn’t sure if he could start today or tomorrow. Hubs is fighting this every step and I don’t think he knows he’s doing it. He agrees that the place needs new paint and isn’t whining about spending the money but he’s putting up roadblocks every step of the way.

I just can’t wait for the big kitchen/dining room paint job, that’s going to require at least half an oz of the good stuff to ignore him properly then.

We’ve both been shot up - we’ll see how my left arm feels in the morning. We ran the car thru the car wash and got some stuff at the hardware store while we were nearby. Once home, I boiled some eggs, cleaned some strawberries, and I’m making ice.

Just got a call about the truck - O2 sensor is bad and the rear brakes need to be adjusted. Plus it’s due for an oil change (it’s been almost a year.) So there’s another $650 in unplanned fun.

Speaking of $$, I need to have a look at our various accounts and do some budgeting for the rest of the year. Tuition went up for Tobias and this month we need to pay the balance for our cruise. And neither of us can count on long-lost relatives dying and leaving us a pile of gold, so budget I must…

Exercise was a tough slog after four days away from it. I’ll be feeling that in my shoulder tomorrow.

The wife is taking her morning nap and Sadie is snoozing in my closet.

Ordered some expensive maple syrup this morning because I can. Wirecutter on the NYT rated several brands. Surprisingly, one of the better ones was Costco’s syrup as the best low-cost syrup. I’ve been using it for years and always thought it was good.

Not too busy of a day, apart from a couple of late Richmond trailers that made things tight. MSG was supposed to be on the 100 Slide, but took forever on the overnight clerk work. And what she did do was just shove the rewraps and empty totes under the Slide. I got 6 minutes to clean it up a bit, then I got sent back to the 300 Slide. I got sent home at 0930, since there wasn’t a lot of cleanup. I guess we’re back on the “watch the OT” thing again. I had a meatloaf, egg, and cheese sandwich for breakfast. Now it’s naptime.

All bags of potato chips are single serving bags in this house.

Some things just take longer for him to learn than others.

I gave him a list, including paint colors by name and product number. List included everything needed.

Main color: light peach, #1234, satin finish 1000 sf

Trim color: dark peach, # 4567 semi-gloss 500 sf

That got switched around, so all of the paint is flat and I have two gallons of trim paint and one of the main color.

I’m going to take a gallon of the trim paint back and see if they can add the semi-gloss stuff to it, otherwise I’ll just have another gallon mixed.

This place didn’t come with a few old cans of paint, the shed looks empty without them.

Crisps, as we call 'em, are one of the basic food groups for me… I try to limit the quantity, but willpower only goes so far.

Wood stove all nice and clean and ready for winter. The rat cage is right next to where the chimney goes, and the poor lil things just freaked out from the weird noise. Luckily I’d thought that might happen so I had some popcorn to distract them with.

I bought paint for the spare bedroom almost 2 years ago, in a fit of optimism. Obviously the room is stuffed with stuff (and rats), so I’ve not got anywhere in trying to redecorate; the crappy old wallpaper needs stripping off everything, the boiler needs boxing in and the carpet replacing with flooring that isn’t awful (OK that bit I would do after the repainting), so it’s a big job. I can’t even remember what colour I picked now, it’ll be a surprise, assuming I ever get round to it, and the paint is still usable when I do.

I just finished putting some Thompson’s Water Seal on my new cedar planter. It’ll go on the porch tomorrow or the next day, and I need to fashion a cover for it to protect it from winter. I’ll load it with soil and plants in the spring. But I bought it now because it was a really good deal.

I need to run to the recycle center. I do. I will. Eventually.

Rain’s done - got about 12 mm / ½ inch. We need about 4 weeks of that to get out of the drought. :frowning:

Beautiful peachy pink sunset which is now fading. Sunset seems so much earlier when it’s overcast.

Should get more sun this weekend, so hopefully the tomatoes remaining on the vine will ripen up. Today was the first evening we didn’t have tomatoes - the Thai food truck was here, and hubby saw it when he stopped at the post office. So we had crispy duck for dinner. Yum!

Speaking of vaccinations, I need to remember to ask for the Shingles vaccination next time I go for a checkup. Here insurance only pays if you’re 65 or immunocompromised. I don’t care, I’m paying for it, for both hubby and me. He had Shingles about 20 years ago and certainly doesn’t want to do that again.

Afternoon all. Have been doing my best slothage so far today, but will get up shortly and since I have to go out and mail a letter, will go ahead and pack my gym bag for a couple hours of sweatage. At least I’ll be away from the temptation of the ice cream in the fridge…

JtC, had my own issues with paint, but I usually can follow instructions (or write them down if necessary).

FCM, happy budgeting. I try to plan 3 months ahead at a time, sometimes it works and sometimes life intervenes…at least truck isn’t too bad…

Cookie, the rare times I fix pancakes I use the store brand Kroger syrup, which is adequate but probably 1/2 the flavor of your maple stuff. Still edible.

The rare times I buy them the same rule applies, often the 12-pack of Pringles is my choice for the lower calories, but still limiting myself to 2 a day is…hard.

Dicey, got my shingles shots about 3 years ago, not a bad thing to have.

And just looked at the clock and it is nearly 1:30pm so I have wasted a good part of the day in sloth, so I guess I need to get moving. Take care all.

Good afternoon! I’ve had a busy morning and am finally checking in. I was not looking forward to walking this morning when I saw a temp of 75ºF, but cheered up when I saw the dew point was only 67º. It was not humid! Finally! There was a slim crescent moon just above the horizon this morning. First light had some nice colors and the dawn did interesting things to the clouds.


UPS thinks my prescription will get here on Friday. I think I will start it next Saturday. Mrs Magill and I are going on a road trip next week, and I think that would probably not be the best time to play silly buggers with my hormones, though I may apply a patch Saturday, to see if I notice anything.

The Indianapolis Costco is a good Costco. It’s like Tijuana[1] - cheap gas and liquor.

I believe Mrs Magill has looked at some positions there, and she loves Chicago. She’s also considering going back to consulting, which she loved, but that wouldn’t have a relocation package.

Not with that attitude, you won’t!

There are two kinds of Shingles shots. The one I’d gotten at the Costco Pharmacy was easy. The one Mrs Magill got at the doctor’s knocked her out for a day. I don’t remember which was which, so uh.. good luck!

There is only one shingles vaccine used in the US. There used to be another one but it was discontinued about a decade ago as it was less protective than Shingrix, which is a two shot series, 6 months apart and then you are done for life (unless something new is developed, which is unlikely).

The difference you and Mrs. Mollie experienced is most likely due to whether it was the first or second shot and differences in how your unique physiology responded. There is only one shingles vaccine (Shingrix) out there, no need to figure out which shingles vaccine to choose.

Because of my birth year I got to endure two shingles series~both Zostavax (not as protective, just as nasty) and Shingrix (more protective but the second shot is no fun-I just planned to take Tylenol before I went to the pharmacy and take expect much of myself for the next 24 hours).

I know nothing about shingles vaccines in other countries.

Wasted trek to the convenience center - the recycle dumpster was being changed out. I wasn’t about to sit around waiting, so I’ll go back tomorrow. And once I got home, I took FCD to get the truck. I hope we’re done running around for today.

I woke at 4 and now, at 3, I’m starting to drag already. Stoopit sleep cycle…

Last eve went to the e.r. constipation. I have a video visit tomorrow with a gastroenterologist as things are not quite normal. They gave me a suppository and hydrated me.
Apparently its the law that all e.r. visits must last 4 hours.

It has been 1 year today that my fiance( MS) died. It wrecked me as I had no warning to prepare emotionally.
Last time we spoke he had called while I was on the bus and cannot hear conversation even on speaker so I picked up and said, Im on the bus.

I really should start doing that. I’m currently munching on Clancy’s wavy chips – I was able to put the bag away Sunday after only eating a third of them, as opposed to the usual three-quarters of the bag (which is the point I’ve now reached, so I’m putting them away again).

Yay!

Never been to Costco. The closest one is several miles farther away than BJ’s, where we do shop occasionally.

Is one enough? Are three too many?

I miss the old way of selling chips – a lightweight cardboard box with two plastic bags inside it. That way you at least got two servings’ worth with each purchase.

Not fond of barbecue-flavoured chips, and kettle chips are too hard.

33d anniversary! (Already !?) We’ve picked Wood-n-Tap for tonight’s dinner. It opened late last year (I think) where 99 was before it closed without warning a few years ago. (Not quite as bad as Carlos Murphy’s down in Norfolk, where the staff showed up for work one day and found the place with the lights off and the door locked.)

Back from Lowes where I learned that semi-gloss isn’t something you can mix into the paint, the base paint has to be semi gloss and then they mix in the color. I also learned that if you own the mistake instead of blaming the paint mixer, they will be kind enough to remix it for you gratis. Which was very nice because a gallon of paint is still more expensive than a gallon of gas.

Hubs leaves his lawn mowing shoes on the front porch. (but I can’t have one little bit of clothesline). Every six months or so, a spider or critter would make its home in a shoe and hubs would get offended and throw them away. He did this in AZ and has started doing it again here. I did buy a shoebox back there, but it didn’t seem to have made the move or has since been repurposed.

I stopped at the Dollar Store in search of a shoe box but they didn’t have anything the right size. They didn’t have a whole lot of anything on the shelves TBH. That store is always poorly staffed, the last couple of times I was there I had to chase an employee down to cash out. I’m sure a whole lot of their stock is just walking out the door.

I got my flu shot and actually got to use my shot record! I’ve been keeping those cards since the plague years and nobody has ever asked to see them before. Today the girl said the computer kept telling her that I was due for Pneumonia shot but I couldn’t remember when I had it. Then I remembered my stack of cards and started looking though them. Yeah, didn’t need anything else that was on offer today.

I got the shot in my left arm and now my right shoulder hurts, LOL!!!

Usually I get a boozebomb for the shot pain, but today I bought a bottle of Canadian Mist instead. I’m not a huge fan of whiskeys but that’s the only thing I know of around here that is from Canada.

The painter stopped by on his way home to promise he would be here in the morning. Now I need to make another decision. What color do I want the french doors, wall color or trim. I think I want trim but now Hubs is fussing about all the colors. (He would be perfectly happy if I paid someone to come in and spray paint everything white.)

I don’t remember those. I do remember Mom buying the variety packs but I haven’t seen those for a while. Of course, I try to avoid the chip and snack aisle so I wouldn’t see them unless they were on an endcap anyhow.

Mr. brown and I are both shot up, both flu and Covid. He had his Covid yesterday, and woke up this morning feeling like crap. He has been mostly in bed since about twenty minutes ago, and then got up, announced he wanted hot dogs for dinner, and then went out to buy the makings. But he and I have been mostly holed up because it’s 100 degrees out there and smoggy to boot.

Because of the heat, I’ve doubled up on watering all my potted plants. Despite this, the dahlia is definitely looking scraggy and heat-bedraggled, and the azaleas look tired and dispirited. But the heat will go on for only one more day and then we’re back to normal icky late summer heat. Autumn starts in a couple of weeks and I hope it’ll usher in much cooler weather.

You may want to check for recalls on this O2 sensor. My last two Chevy trucks, as well as Dad’s were recalled for them.

I’m back home! Tired and having to put away things a little at a time, but home. Unfortunately, my TV is still FUBAR. BIL will be over tomorrow evening to look at it, but meanwhile, drunken neighbor is playing loud hip-hop on the stoop again. Damn, but she needs some earbuds.
