(Old) Looking ahead in the MMP

I did just that a few months ago. Your car insurance may cover roadside assistance and might reimburse you for the AAA/locksmith services. Mine did.

Howdy Y’a’ll! Pretty uneventful day here. I had the ultrasound this mornin’. Took all of fifteen minutes. I got there a little early and was called back within five minutes. I actually got out of there twenty minutes before my eleven-thirty appointment. WIN-WIN! Got back to da cave, had a sammich and then accomplished nappage and day drinkin’. The majik intartoobz pizza and sallit hit the spot for sup.

MetalMouse glad you were able to rescue the hearin’ aids.

FlyBoy I have a small Hamilton Beach coffee maker as a backup. You may think it blasphemy, but I use a Keurig, but not the pods. I have one of those reusable thingys I measure coffee into. OYKW does not drink coffee as he prefers his caffeine cold.

Knotty I like how you reward yourself after the shot with ice cream. Seems a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

Taters glad Mr. Taters is on the mend. Hope he’s been much better today.

Cookie I am not a fan of lobster. It has a weird taste/texture combo to me.

Mollie I am so lucky that my usual vampire really knows what she’s doin’. She can find a vein and draw blood in nuttin’ flat!

We had a French press in our RV for over 20 years. Once you get the grounds figured out, I works very well and stores easily.

Thinking is a terrible habit to develop.

I’ll eat it if it’s all ready to eat when it’s set in front of me. Not if I have to butcher it myself, though – it’s not that good!

I think that’s more shoe’s department l.

Up from naptime. I’m having a margarita, with Baked Fried Chicken, with Bojangles cheesy potatoes and roasted corn. Watching Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

You had a boofae level commute.

We’ve all done it. Heck, at one point I was on a first name basis with the lockpick lady.

That’s my blackout backup(I also have an old school hand grinder.)

Evening all. Coaching 6 year olds can be…frustrating…but we managed to cover several things that they probably forgot as soon as we left the field, but it was a good workout (after 1,400 calories were expended at the gym), so Chee-burger and Ice Cream were a welcome repast for the evening (making like Bugs Bunny and chomping on baby carrots right now). Temperature is 'only 79F right now and heading down to 70F tonight so may open up the windows and shut down the AC and see how it works out. Shopping list is ready for tomorrow.

And lots of catching up to do…

Taters, hope Mr. Taters keeps improving.

Mollie, best wishes for the changes.

FCM, best wishes to FCD, it is hard when a parent dies. And I’ve printed out the appointment and taped it to my monitor, which is my ‘Outlook’ appointment substitute. And never knew turtles hissed… Glad you’ll soon have a working kiln again, you and Roxy can fire up those items…

Flyboy, ah, the Curious Case of the Moving tomato…

Lily, outside of sore arms, never had a bad reaction yet to a COVID or Flu shot. Best wishes for the weight work; I dropped about 1.6lbs the past week, we’ll see if it holds for next week.

JtC, how does a painter forget his ladder? I figure that’s one thing that never leaves his truck…

Nut, happy tunneling…

Lily, are you OK?

Cookie, I have never eaten lobster and at 73 I doubt I will start. All the best to wife.

Mollie, glad that the clinical trial is over and the money will be forthcoming.

VanGo, been awhile since I’ve done that, usually have a spare set at home, just have to be in reach of there…

swampy, sometimes getting to the appointment early pays off.

And that’s all folks. Catch up again tomorrow with you adventures.

Oh, c’mon. At least one black-lite poster, scotch-taped to the wall.

Bonus points for that one super-annoying cassette CD oh, hell, whatever tech kids these days play. But ya gotta play it LOUD, on multiple repeat, until someone complains.

Then play it one more time.

I kinda skimmed, missed a few words, and went, “Wait, HOW many a week?”

I should not have laughed at this as much as I did.

Eye LINER { hmph } with makeup as with all other matters, the devil is, indeed, always in the details.

I’m just messing with you, luv, I promise. Sparkle away.

In the “interesting free food” department, Alternate Manager has been talking for DAYS about how she’s been marinating whole garlic cloves in honey. For weeks.

Each time, my reaction is basically, “interesting also WANT” and today she finally brought a tiny container with some of it, for meeeeeeeee!!!

She used it for baked chicken. According to her (and her family) reviews, this was a delicious use.

Me? I’m over here slathering the entire batch straight onto sourdough bread, with no regrets.

Texted one of my besties - she’s a total foodie - about it, and her response was, “Put that in my veins!”

My response: “Mouth hole is better.”

So, uh, if any of yous iz bored, and haz garlic & honey to spare … holy gawds this stuff is delicious.

I always like to have Plan B. And Plan C. And Plan D…

The point of the French Press is that you can make a small ‘pot’ of coffee. A moka pot is sort of a stove-top espresso maker. It’s lower pressure, and so not actually espresso; but there you are. Vietnamese coffee makers are for making cà phê sữa đá. The Ninja (and all automatic drip coffee makers) are much more convenient. But some other methods make better coffee, though at the cost of convenience.

We ended up with a surplus of urns.

Our last two (or three) only lasted about a year and a half.

See my previous post.

Sadly, we don’t. :frowning: But the propane grill has a side burner, and I have a two-burner Colman stove.

Several years ago, there was a Keurig commercial on TV. Mrs. L.A. said, ‘Don’t get me a Keurig for Christmas.’ Only… I’d already ordered one. It turned out that she liked it. She doesn’t use it much anymore, but we both do sometimes. We do have reusable pods.

We went to Bay Breeze tonight. As you may recall, there was a shooting outside of there on Sunday. The owner, Hun (South Korean guy) showed us exterior and interior surveillance video. They’ve got nice cameras.

I’m a fan of the napoletana, but it’s messier than I want to deal with first thing in the morning. I don’t mind a French press, but I get impatient and push the plunger too quickly. I have a phin for making cà phê sữa đá, but usually don’t sweeten it. I also have an unfancy, basic ibrik in which I make what I call Mock Turkish Coffee with decaf, stevia, and soy milk. Mostly, we heat water in a Brentwood kettle and pour it over the grounds into a Chemex carafe.

Well, I’m woefully behind! I’ll catch up best I can.

Today was typically cool this morning at around 56Ferrets, forecast high of 83F. It heated up pretty quick today, but it was never horrible.

I’ll try to share a bit more tomorrow. I’ll put it behind a ‘Hide Details’ tag for those who’d rather not trawl through it.

Hope the ceiling leak is fixed, Coppertone. Glad you’re feeling better.

I will look for those! You’re such a smart person.

Welcome home, Bbboo!! Glad you got the place cooled down again.

Good to have the kennel sorted for Otis for your upcoming trip, FCM, and yayy for getting the kiln going again! I’ve always loved working with clay, too, but I have to use a commercial studio in town when the bug bites. Also glad that BIL is back home and on the mend.

Taters, glad Hubs is feeling better at last, and congrats on finding the right file cabinet. I hope putting it together doesn’t turn into An Ordeal. And I hope the dreams improve.

Sticky Buns, how exciting to get the new car of your dreams! Enjoy every drive!

JtC, white (she said, belatedly). Hubs likes living dangerously, doesn’t he?

Lily, ugh on the hassles just to get your COVID vax. Just love the health care system in this country. I’ll say no more about that. Congrats on the weight loss! Sounds promising!

VanGo, I’m another who finds your work fascinating! I’m happy you get to do something that challenges your creativity. And yeah, we’ve all done the keys-locked-in-the-car thing. Don’t be hard on yourself over it.

More doggio wisdom. I’ve started a compilation.

Cat Glove, yaayyy for Hubs getting his final childhood vax! Definitely a milestone event! Really happy for you both.

BooFae, glad the meetings went so well and 'im indoors got his preferred syrup sponge.

Good list, Knots. I’m relieved your asthma episode didn’t get any worse.

Happy that Ursala Kitteh survived her trip to the vee eee tee, Wet One. Oh, the humanity!

Dicey, you are wise to get the Shingles vax. Every person I’ve ever known who had it says it is just miserable and to get the shot(s). I put mine off for a long time, but finally got the 2-shot series last year. Despite rumors to the contrary, they turned out to be a big nothing. Sorry your commute was so exciting today!

Beautiful pics from yesterday, Mollie! Good planning on the HRT. Nice you got a little sleep-in this morning.

Belated happy 33rd anniversary, herald! Hope dinner was nice.

red, stay home now, please! Truly, I hope the health issues are finally behind you at last. And I hope the awful neighbor is gone soon. You shouldn’t have to endure that. May the tee vee be easily fixed tonight!

Hope you got your coffee woes in order, fly boy. Lack of coffee for any reason is a major crisis in the Tree house. I prefer a manual pour-over Melitta-style set up with a reusable steel filter, but I grind beans daily and if the power goes, it can pose problems. I have a hand grinder, but it’s not great and if I know a power outage is likely, I grind beans ahead. Failing that, there is coffee concentrate in individual servings in the pantry. It’s not superb, but it’s better than no coffee at all! I do have an electric percolator that I keep to make coffee for guests who don’t want their coffee too strong, and a French press for those who prefer that method. And I see from your most recent post that you have many ways to cope. Glad you and SWMBO had a nice dinner at the Bay Breeze.

Good strategy on the lobster with your wife, cookie, especially since you don’t much care for it. I like it well enough, but I don’t go out of my way for it. Unlike Dungeness crab, which I consider food of the gods. It’s my favorite birthday treat.

Glad the ultrasound went so smoothly today, swampy! Sounds like you had a pretty nice day.

metal mouse, glad it has finally cooled off some for you. Nothing like fresh air wafting through the windows overnight. Sounds like you got a full day of exercise today – I’m sure your efforts will pay off when next you weigh yourself. Nice work!

shoe, I’m a pretty adventurous eater, but… garlic marinated in honey? Really? I love both things, but maybe not together! Something tells me I’m going to try it, though!

Today was COVID shot day. I hardly slept last night for dreading the crap way I was going to feel today after getting the shot. Every single time, I’ve endured 3 days of abject misery due to the after effects. But… surprise of surprises, so far I feel pretty good! Even my arm isn’t very sore. The true test is 2:00 a.m. If I get through tonight without side effects, I’ll be overjoyed, and it will be a first. I had heard that the shots were reformulated so as to have fewer side effects, and it seems to be true. The pharmacy tech that administered the shot did mention that the Pfizer formulation – the one I opted for – was only 3 mil. The Moderna formulation is 5 mil.

Flu vax is scheduled for a week from tomorrow.

All this talk about potato chips made me glad I have a bag in the house. I’m pretty good at controlling consumption of same, so a handful got me through. I do love the damn things, though. Might have to sneak a few more.

The week has been busy. I went to lunch with friends on Tuesday and we had a great time at the local diner having laughs. Also retrieved the user guide for my fridge that I stupidly left at the hardware store last week while looking for the dumb Allen wrench. It’s safely back with the rest of the fridge documentation.

I need to pick and distribute apples to thems who want 'em. They look ready. I only want enough to make a couple apple pies.

I haven’t completely located the wasps’ nest that Ollie got into the other day, but I have a pretty good idea where it is. I walked over near where it was and one landed on me. That was enough investigating for me. Today I watched the area from a distance and I could see lots of activity. Wasp nest removal is scheduled for Monday.

Waiting to hear when Pond Guy wants to continue the battle. Looks like he tried to call yesterday but didn’t leave a message. Hopefully efforts will resume soon.

More tomorrow. Have great nights, everyone!

Wow. I just looked up my Jungle orders. I ordered the Keurig on Nov 5, 2016. I can’t believe it’s been ten years. (Granted, it’s not in everyday use.)

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 77 degrees Ferret Height( 25 Centipedes) with a Heat Index of 87F(30.556C)

Morning.

The sun is back out today, with a predicted high of 18 centipedes. I can at least see some trees and sky from my desk, and I think I’ll attempt a lunchtime walk, cos it looks nice out there.

I think I’ll also attempt one more round of laundry chicken; the berries aren’t quite gone yet, though the wood pigeons were scoffing them last night. Tomorrow is supposed to be slightly warmer, but getting the laundry done during irking hours should be one of the perks of WFH, dammit. I don’t actually have a dryer unless and until I’m prepared to replace the washing machine that came with the house, which was fairly new and decent quality, so it’s the line or just on racks inside, which takes both time and space.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 15c/59f with a predicted high of 19c/67f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s cloudy and probably a good day to read a fucking book. But if you have a horse, it’s also a good day to fucking ride a horse.”

flyboy I would be very disappointed that the coffee maker only lasted such a short time, and the one before it was the same. I’m very glad you had a reserve one though, I can’t imagine how you’d cope without that first cup of the day. Fortunately, my first cuppa is tea so it only requires that my kettle functions to boil the water

metalmouse I like the group cycling classes, they are fun and we have a dedicated group of regulars so it’s nice to say hello to familiar faces. The music is 100% not to my liking though, but I can put up with it for 45 minutes.

Taters I was glad that TM had things to say, but kind of sad that most of them can be interpreted as “I Don Twanna!” Also, glad to hear that Mr Taters is feeling a little better now. I hope recovery improves so you can get back to doing all the things you want to do.

Mooooom I’m so sorry to hear about FCD’s nightmare and the reason for it. I am sure that all of us who’ve lost someone dear to us feel that we could have done more, or done something differently. I feel just the same about my mother, I know it’s irrational and I know it’s not something I should feel guilty about, but I do all the same.

JtC I am assuming that both the collar and airtag got detached in our garden, and the kitteh went home without either. I would still have expected the owner to be in touch to get the airtag back as those things still cost a bit. But nobody did, so we remain in the dark about which kitteh left it for us.

Mollie yay for the end of the clinical trial and the impending arrival of payments!

Yesterday was a busy but productive day in the office, I have a list of things to get done before I sign out today as I’ll be off all next week. I got home with some level of disruption so I share Dicey’s frustrations. After a restorative cuppa, evening chores and tending to the needs of cats, I loaded 'im indoors into the car and we went to the pet store for cat littler and mog food. Then we diverted to a different than usual supermarket to get some beerverages for next week. Home, dinner was leftover Thai curry, tellybox stuff and bed.

Today I got to the office in good time, and spent half an hour putting the world to rights with a colleague. We’re the only two in the office today so that’s going to be a laugh. Still got lots to do, and our new catsitter is coming round tonight to meet us and see photos of the cats (they’ll all be hiding).

Now it’s time for breakfast and another cuppa before I start nosing around in the inboxes.

Got a side biz with a local crematorium going on?

I posted an Amazon link around post 90, if that helps.

Stuff is yum-yum.

I’m not much for crustaceans, but I do enjoy snow crab legs.

May I ask what makes Dungeness so fabulous?

I was initially skeptical, too. I like plain roasted garlic to schmear onto crackers sometimes (if I’ve got the oven going anyway, I’ll throw in a whole bulb) but this was … different.

In a good way.

The honey/garlic combo is supposed to be good for the immune system or whatevs, but I’m here for the deliciousness.

I think - according to Google and also what she had told me - there’s some bubbly fermentation that happens initially? Do NOT take my word for it, but quick poking around Dah Intertoobz suggests that’s where some of the healthy stuff happens.

However, please don’t take health advice from someone licking Nutella straight off the spoon in bed at 5 a.m.

{ an American microwave has entered the chat }

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 88 with rain this afternoon and evenin’. We shall see. I shall take care of candle and other duties over to the church house later this mornin’. Then, we shall install our new smart teevee (did I mention we ordered it and it came late yestiddy afternoon?) in the livin’ room. It should fit onto the already mounted brackets. HA! I made a funny! Should fit does not = will fit. It will be an adventure. Anywho, whilst I am out later this mornin’ I shall pick up foodstuffs from Jack’s to take care of today’s main need to feed. The usual RDOS sloth is also planned.

Herald I will eat lobster if it’s set in front of me. However, not all of it, if it’s a whole lobster, would get eaten. On the plus side of that, a lobster lover would have enough for some lobster sallit the next day. Plus, if I am invited out to dinner, the invitee can rest assured I will not order the lobster.

MetalMouse glad the cat herdin’ six year old soccer coachin’ went well.

shoe how could garlic and honey not be anything but good!

This should be on a poster in every doctor’s waitin’ room.

Bright Tree glad you had a good time at lunch with friends and rescued the user guide. If I were closer I would raise my hand for some apples. May the wasp destruction go smoothly.

Nuts best of luck with laundry chikin.

BooFae y’all doin’ anything fun next week?

Well there is a nuclear power plant in Dungeness… I’m sure that’s unconnected though.

I realise I didn’t join in the caffeination discussion; I have a moka pot and a selection of metal French presses, having discovered that I cannot be trusted with glass ones before having consumed the contents. That’s a good point actually, I need to retrieve my favourite one from irk, where I moved it when the office machine temporarily broke down.

I also have a selection of mate, including a gourd and bombilla, the metal straw. It’s a bit of a faff to prepare, but if I want the pulse rate of a hummingbird for an afternoon, it’s quite effective.

It appears we got some rain last night - not enough for a driveway puddle, but the paved section in front of FCD’s shop is wet. There’s a small chance of more today, so we’ll see if I can get my outdoor chores done.

Speaking of car keys, eons ago, I had a shrub pick my pocket. There was a large green growing thing just outside my apartment door and I guess I brushed up against it on my way out, and somehow, my key ring ended up on a branch. Of course, I didn’t find it till after I called and paid a locksmith for a couple of spare keys. I was fortunate that I’d left a window unlocked so I could get back into my apartment. Also fortunate that I was only 21 at the time, so climbing in a window was not a biggie. Good times…

Once again, it’s laundry day. So I’ve got that going for me. And I think that’s the extent of the excitement. Of course, I could bi kidnapped by enemy agents who try to force me to reveal vital secrets, but chances are I’ll just end up folding towels and pairing socks.

Happy Firday!

Good morning all. Just reminiscing. I know everyone remembers exactly where they were twenty five years ago. Just about now I was driving to the shop to pick up materials for the job. The first plane hit and was being discussed on NPR as a terrible accident. My apprentice and I loaded up and headed for the job as the second plain hit. At the job site, new construction of a medium sized office building, everyone’s radios were tuned to the same news channel. The drywallers quickly finished one wall in the atrium. The electricians mounted the enormous flat screen TV and ran temporary power to it. The cable guys ran temporary coax to it and tuned it to an all news station. There were probably thirty men from all trades but no one was working. The general contractor went out for coffee and donuts and we all spent the day just watching as the events unfolded.
