Glad you got to see them and that you and BB enjoyed being together. As we’re looking at a cruise to Norway, but in summer 2026. Being on a cruise ship when the daylight hours are shorter than average doesn’t sound like that much fun. I want to see scenery.
Best post combo I’ve seen for a while.
Might want to avoid dusting - the poor dust bunnies just want to be left alone to make more.
Yay!
1 serving of 210 calories IMHO
Sorry the store didn’t live up to expectations. It seems I’m reading enough about Legos that I’m seeing ads for the Tie Fighter. Hubby’s sister posted a picture of her son working on a Lego backhoe loader - I can’t imagine how many Lego pieces they have in their house as he’s been doing Lego for more than 16 years.
Looking forward to your reviews. Glad the healing is going well.
The citrus-ricotta cake turned out well. It’s the first time I’ve baked a cake according to the internal temperature. I probably should do that more often as I tend to underbake cakes.
Today was a day off as part of the local Carnival celebration. Not my thing, so I used the time to get my home office back to working order. There’s actually a floor in there.
Completely agree. And based on Pilot’s most recent response, I’m rather shocked they even try to run that route.
Is there any kind of (obviously non-US based) regulatory agency in Europe that would look into something like that? That sounds quite frankly ridiculous.
Hugs to you.
If anyone wants to skip
I’ve been laid off before and it will mess with you in very unexpected ways. While your situation is quite different than mine was (mine was a corporate layoff, so some feelings of betrayal towards management/the company, etc. while this isn’t your company’s fault at all) just know that it’s an odd place mentally to find yourself in. A positive attitude and ways to keep yourself busy or blow off some steam will go a long ways in keeping mentally healthy. And you seem like you’re already headed in the right direction. I hope you get to enjoy a small break before transitioning to a different area in your company.
I have done a great job wasting time this morning and not getting anything productive done - I’m training well for my (long off) retirement!
I too have had layoffs of the corporate sort. Once for 3 years and once for almost 10.
@liirogue speaks truth; it’s a weird sensation for sure. In all, it’s time for you to dust off that resume and look for work that’s not dependent in any way on the government at any level. Along with another million people in your general area.
In my case I had to completely re-invent myself into a new career both times.
I don’t use that specific product, but I routinely assume that if a food label says the package is X servings, the real-world “actual adult human being” servings are X/2, or half what the label claims.
Apparently once one turns 71, one’s energy is limited to bursts of maybe 60-90 minutes, followed by recliner time. That should make yard work interesting this spring. I’ll need a chair and a beach umbrella strategically placed and easily moved as necessary.
Also why I paid to have Tobias enrolled in preschool - I can’t handle all day with a preschooler. Nope.
I bet that was torture for you, being adult-sized and all. I figure if one is over about 5’2", coach is majorly sucky for long trips. We’re going Premium Economy - for a few more bucks you get more leg room and butt room. There comes a time in life when the comfort is worth the cost. I can’t imagine what our trip to Chile and back from Buenos Aires would have been like in regular Economy.
FCD talked to the fabricators and they said we should get our fuel tanks in 2 weeks. So we’ve got 2 weeks to clean the engine room where they’ll live. It’ll mainly be spray-with-degreaser-scrub-wipe-off. Apart from the water on the docks not being turned on till April or so, we don’t need to pump greasy water residue overboard.
Tomorrow and Weds, we’re promised low 60s, so I’m guessing that’s when we’ll go there. So that should be fun. Yeah, fun. I may take some pics to show how much fun.
Pot roast is smelling yum! Almost time to peel the spuds. Then I need to remember to pick up the kitty feeder off the floor so Trevor doesn’t get into it. Plus I need to get out a bigger bowl of water. So I guess you’re on your own for a while. Behave!
Hiya, Mumpers! 'Tis I, the long-lost Nellie of Bly. Man, did I miss you people! I apologize in advance for the length. A lot has happened.
After two trips to the Apple Store in Tacoma, I found out my laptop was basically beyond saving. (Long, tedious story.)I also found out my backups to my external hard drive hadn’t really been backing up. Thank heavens for my son! He sent me a monitor to use so I could use my NEW external hard drive to back up everything. I had to pop for a new laptop. It’s been a pricey week. I was also able to find my password for the SD, so here I am.
My brother’s recovery is going well. He’s ditched the walker and is using a cane now, and is walking more each day.
My sister-in-law…yikes. There are really 3 issues going on there. One is her horrific childhood: icy dad, mom who killed herself, stepmom from hell (I met her twice. Holy frick.), lots of mental abuse and got kicked out on 18th birthday without a dime or anything else. Issue #2: loss of eye due to diabetes. She thinks she does a good job compensating, but she doesn’t. Issue #3: early dementia. All of this has made her angry, and she snaps at my brother (and others) over the blandest of comments. She has a low emotional IQ and has vehemently refused therapy. She misinterprets tone of voice and even words spoken on the regular.
Her driving has always been bad. I’m amazed she hasn’t been in an accident yet. Add in that she can’t see anything left of center, and you can see why I gasped so much, I almost hyperventilated. She just laughed and said, “You’re just not used to city driving, You have to be aggressive.” Uh, no. You have to stay in your lane and look before you merge to the right. Were my brother to take away her keys, she’d go ballistic and just have a locksmith come out to make new keys.
She tell me once, “I get confused and forget things, and it’s scary.” I urged her to see her doc. She said she had her wellness physical in January, and she flunked the “remember three words” test the first time, but got it with effort after doc repeated same words. She forgets how to go places she’s been to several times and pulls over to call my brother. And after 5 months, she still can’t recall their house #. I urged her to get evaluated so she can get a diagnosis and get on meds that would slow the progression. I’ll have to diplomatically repeat this a few more times before it’ll sink in.
My brother is at a loss. He said, “She’s angry all the time.” True, and she’s been this way for years, but it’s much worse now. He’s constantly walking on eggs, and though he’s an even-keeled person (unlike me), this is hard on him.
SO…I did something hard but really felt I had to do it. I promised to call her once a week to talk. She now texts me multiple times daily, and we talk 2-3 times a week. Frankly, it’s been pretty hard, but she has nobody else: no real friends, snaps at my bro, and nobody else in the family will do this. My eldest sister is afraid of her, and my middle sis simply refuses. And my SIL resents them. I’m hoping to nudge her towards going to her doc for evaluation AND to up the dosage on her anti-depressant/anti-anxiety med, but I have no illusions.
They’d like me to move in, but that’d be a big nope. I’ll go whenever they need me, but I can’t sacrifice myself to that extent.
Enough of that.
Pilot, sounds like to me! And what a great tri! Hope you get to cross the Arctic Circle at some point.
flyboy, I was awake at that time but didn’t feel quaking. Did you, taters? We should christen it the Fairy Chats Earthquake, since we know who caused it. Best excuse ever for not dusting!
Wait until an earthquake shakes it off. Problem solved!
FCM, holy mole-y, I hope you find a way to evict the little critters.
I can’t. When my brother was in cub scouts, they had one at the Blue and Gold dinner, and the winner was not able to keep down the banana cream pie. Put me off for life.
swampy, I just realized I’ve never had rice and gravy. I hang my head in shame. My sister was a special ed teacher in Louisiana, and she had a low-functioning student who’d randomly yell, “Rice and gravy!” until after months of this, the low-functioning girl next to him bopped him on the head. This is my entire experience with that dish.
MetalMouse, where are you headed i June? Greenland? (See it while it’s still Danish?)
MsRobyn–sorry, I must’ve missed your Mumper nickname–congrats on the award!
So they’re egging your car?
Stickybuns, I haven’t had Lipton’s soup for years–unless you count onion dip. Is it any good? I remember Mrs. Grass soup from when I was a kid. We were fascinated by the “golden egg,” but the soup didn’t have many noodles. I’ll be interested in hearing how you like the soup you have.
Oopsie, is there anything that can’t be made out of Legos? I bet that somewhere, there’s a Lego house for human habitation. Also, big hugs on the work situation.
Did I miss something? Is wordy furloughed, too? Or did you mean that for oopsie?
I have to go walk a certain black poodle. Her person is ill, and the dog is going bonkers. Should be an interesting foray.
Now that you mention them, I haven’t seen any rabbits or hares since we moved here. Odd.
The forest is starting to get loud again, the birds are coming back.
This is the most important part, I’m so happy you both are so compatible. Dang about the bait and switch though.
Are you sure they are moles? We get burrowing crawdads here and they make mounds as well. You live around water as well.
I was fourteen when I ate that double banana split, kids that age have very little sense or decorum.
Good on them for recognizing your hard work!
One envelope is one serving. You might have to cut back a little on the water so it will fit in your mug, but it is one serving.
That’s something I miss as well. There are a lot of good places in Charleston and a variety of different places in Logan, but I really miss taco trucks and good Mexican. OTOH, they do Asian food better than AZ so I guess its a wash.
I really hope you come out on top at the end.
Many rescue critters don’t come with names attached, you had no way of knowing. We went to see Barkley and pet the kitties today and then the mail came with the bed Hubs had ordered for him so he went back and gave Barkley his bed. He said Barkley seemed to like it so the bed belongs to Barkley and will go with him.
I really hope someone else suitable adopts him, Hubs can’t get anyone out to measure the gate for three weeks and of course it isn’t a standard size so will have to be specially made. That’s a long time for an old dog to sit in a shelter even with regular visitors and treats.
I’m seeing them too!
Yum on the cake, do you listen to them? If they are bubbly, they need ten more minutes.
After all that, I’m so happy you have Ms Dog for entertainment. Watching critters play is always super relaxing for me.
So today has been a day of high sloth. After the weekend’s happenings, I’m feeling pretty demoralized but tomorrow will be almost 70F and I will March forth.
We saw the National Guard in Logan, it looked like they were helping with that flooded apartment building I posted about- it was hard to tell because they were just standing around in the parking lot. The mud has been cleaned up as well as possible, the next good rain will finish the job.
You’re right. My error. That was meant for for @Misnomer = (I think) oopsie.
That’s another reason I don’t like the nicknames: there’s no reference you can look them up in, and the one thing people don’t do is use their own nickname, so you can’t even search by their actual DoperID to find it.
Definitely moles. We’re not close enough to water for crawdads. The nearest creek is half a mile away, more or less, and 125’ lower in elevation. Our soil is pretty heavy with clay - I don’t think it’s a happy place for crawdads.
Probably not someone I know, but he/she/they got rollsucked or shaken out in the yard. And so it goes…
I de-fatted the roast as well as I could. I know the fat enhances the flavor, but when it was coming off in a big hunk, that was the sign to remove it. I don’t need anyone eating that. My kitchen, my rules! Besides, the pot o’beef-n-veggies is smelling amazing!
The table is set, the dirties from cooking are in the dishwasher. I filled a bowl with grapes and I have a container of strawberries for Tobias (and whoever wants to fight him for them!) I made a pitcher of grape drink. I picked up the kitteh feeder and put down a big bowl o’ water for Trevor. I scooped the kitteh box so Trevor doesn’t try to snack on the tootsie rolls. I think I’m ready. We’ll see if Daughter thinks to bring dessert - I don’t have anything.
Welcome back nellie!! That sounds like… a lot… to deal with.
This probably happened while you were on vacation, but the wonderful nellie made a list and had a mod update the MMP FAQ. List is alphabetized by nickname.
I get 2 gb a month. It runs out but I can still access internet, just slower.
Today I couldnt even get to SD or yahoo mail. I have MetroPc.
I called and they “updated” and its working now but dang. I was supposed to get an onboarding e mail from new boss, hasn’t happened yet.
My plan was 15 a month.
I was going to update it to 25 for unlimited.
Now because she updated me it says I owe 40 next week, 35 for 5 gb. 5 gb isnt optimal.
Not sure what to do now.
Oh, crud! I missed Monday morning!
We have moles here, and we have Taken Measures to discourage them. At the old place, we used wind-driven scare-moles. Okay, moles live on bugs and larvae they find underground. It’s dark down there, so they locate them by listening for them. If you have something that makes underground noise, they can’t find food. The cheap and easy way, is those silly-looking whirling flowers. They clatter and squeak, drowning out the sound of bugs. Result? The moles go to a quieter lawn.
Then we moved here, and Mrs. Nott decided this is too classy a neighborhood for whirling plastic sunflowers. (Rolleyes emoji) So we went high-tech. Now we have solar-powered gadgets that make underground noise. They stick up an inch or two, not high enough to get hit by the mower.
It got up to 39F today, and we have a predicted high tomorrow in the low 50sF, with rain.
Howdy Y’all! As predicted today has been a high RDOS day. The next two days, however, will be days of high (for me) activity. I guess that evens things out. I read a bunch today which is very relaxin’ to me. Readin’ is generally considered to be an activity, but feels more like an inactivity to me. I did make sup which is an activity since effort is required.
Nellie rice ‘n gravy is like smashed N.O.T. ‘n gravy except it’s rice. Really dump some gravy on rice and voila!
I’m the same way. There are only two people that I talk to on the phone that are non-business: Dad and one sister. Anybody else can text me. (part of that is because I work weird hours)
Have you considered raised beds?
:tacklehug:
Irked and it was a Monday all damned day. My cow-orker went home sick with likely the flu after a couple of hours, weekend shift in the new department that is sharing my Google laptop for a couple of weeks until they get their own (has a dongle for certain Google software) drained the power and borked a couple things up on it to boot (took Product Engineering IT to fix it and three hours charge), I got an unexpected batch of trade ins (they don’t usually come in on Mondays) and one lead kept asking me if I could come up front to work (she doesn’t get that I have to have at least 30 minutes to wrap up things that I’m doing when programming or brick a batch of phones).
On top of that, one of the guys in research was asking about apartments in my complex. Seems that his wife of 50 years (yeah, he’s 72 and still working) kicked him out and he was wanting an apartment somewhere as close to work as their house (he lived about a mile up the street from me). He viewed an apartment two buildings over this afternoon. No idea what he thought.
