Old Mad (or Cracked) magazine question

This would be from the mid-1970’s… I was talking with a friend and we both recall an spoof that included a character saying “can I have the placenta” in the background… neither of us can recall the topic/object of the spoof.

Does this ring any bells?

Dunno. I’ve requested the complete MAD for Xmas. If I get it, I’ll do a search on “placenta”.

Here is a list of all spoofs, by decade, for Mad.

When I saw the question, my personal, initial reaction in lieu of the list was “Rosemary’s Baby”, a late 60’s movie. I Googled and then found out that Mad actually spoofed that movie, which then led me to the list I’ve linked.

BTW, she gives birth in the movie, and it’s a key part leading to the climatic wrap up.

Well I just spent twenty minutes digging through my storage closet looking for my copy of Totally Mad which includes an index for all the Mad Magazines up to about 1998. Naturally I had no luck.

I’ll give it another try after dinner but that CD collection may be the best chance of locating it. I think the new collection that stuthehistoryguy lacks the index. If I can’t find mine then you might be able to locate another set.

I read Mad Magazine religiously in the Seventies and I don’t recall coming across the word placenta in there. I think I would’ve considered the word striking enough to remember. The word “placenta” would’ve been beyond the pale for them, back then anyway.

I read Cracked Magazine back then less often, and don’t feel qualified to answer.

Are you certain it was in those two magazines? As I recall, Saturday Night Live published a book around that time which had some censored sketches in it. One of them was for a commercial parody for “Placenta Helper”. As I recall, its dialog was close to what you quoted, but not exactly, “Can I have the placenta?”, but it did say, “Are you planning to eat the placenta?”

It was definitely a black wet-nurse looking on from behind saying “can I have da’ placenta”… I asked my friend and he remembers it as well, but not where it came from…

Definitely not Mad Magazine. Sounds more like an R. Crumb type, but I’m no expert on R. Crumb.

A friend of mine actually asked me to pass the placenta sauce.(He meant Picante)

<sigh> There will never be a complete CRACKED. :frowning:

Yeah, it sounds like something from Crumb’s Angelfood McSpade.

There was a third parody/satire magazine in the 70s: Crazy.

It could have been in National Lampoon Magazine.

Sorry to ressurrect an old thread. I came here, actually searching for just this quote, and specifically, trying to find what was around it exactly. I’m pretty sure we’re thinking of 1987’s “Summer School”.

You may be recalling a “Trots and Bonnie” cartoon in National Lampoon:

that’s not the one, but I appreciate the thought

You could be thinking of the SNL sketch that never got on the air.

Unca Cecil wrote a column on placenta cuisine, and this old SDMB thread discusses it and the could-have-been SNL sketch.

This may have been a reference to something prior, but I’m about 95% positive that there was a scene in this movie in which a pregnant character went into labor, and the horror movie fan (Chainsaw) yelled as she was being taken out of the classroom “Can I have the placenta?!” much to most of the movie theatergoers disgust.
