(Old) Make Me Proud! In the MMP

Oh yeah, and happy President’s Day, too.

I finally made it back. Me and my GLP-1 had some issues over the weekend, but I’m here and feeling ok so far today. First of all since I didn’t make it back for the last MMP, {{{BooFae}}} I am so sorry about your beloved kitty.

So, back to my topic: Make Me Proud! Tell me something fabulous about yourself!

First! It’s good to be juvenile!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 37 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 56 and N.O.S. I have a doc appointment this mornin’ at eight-thirty and it’s men’s night over to the church house this evenin’. So I go places and do things today. I shall do my best to squeeze in some RDOS inactivities.

Sticky_Buns I haven’t slapped anyone upside the haid even though I really want to. Does that count?

Now I need more caffeine and then I suppose I should purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Woe.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 2c/36f with a predicted high of 3c/38f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Sure, there are fucking clouds in the sky, but they are just shit clouds.” It was sunny when I went out this morning though.

Sticky Buns not feeling very fabulous today, as you might expect. However, I have dropped my car off at the garage for the annual MoT and service. Naturally, they’ve already called to say it failed the MoT on a worn bearing somewhere so that’ll be at least £300 to fix. I’m keeping the local economy going!

Same, Mr. Bear. Same.

Plus, since it’s Moanday my blessed day off, I gotta call my mother.

Summary

Who just doesn’t understand why her recent purchase of a Tesla isn’t getting her bunches of new friends.
A Polish woman.

I … can’t.

Wow, that’s some comprehensive inspection to uncover something like that! When we lived in Virginia, vehicles were (are?) required to have an annual inspection which cost $10 and took maybe 10 minutes. I think they “inspected” the wear of your tires, whether all your lights worked and, maybe, the state of your brakes. I felt sorry for the garage owners - this had to be a waste of time and money for them unless you were driving a piece of junk that they got to repair. Then again, I’m sure a lot of people did…

shoe - I get the sense from your posts that your mother lives in a world of her own. Seems to me all you can do is smile and move on and be thankful she’s not your next-door neighbor.

Lessee, what’s fabulous about me, apart from the obvious, right? I’d say I’m the best grandmother since grandmothers have been invented, but that’s obvious, obviously! And as has been mentioned already, I haven’t knocked anyone upside the head. Um, I know! I keep the ice bin full!

The ice maker in our freezer conked out years ago and short of emptying the fridge and letting it come to room temp over the course of a few days (in case it’s just a frozen line) I decided to buy a counter-top ice maker, and then another one that makes “good” ice. And I keep it clean and I run it every day or so to ensure there’s plenty of ice on hand for someone who must fill his glass to the brim with ice, and then dump half of it down the sink when he’s done. Oh, and remember the not whomping upside the head. So yay, me!!

I’m meeting my friend Val for lunch today - haven’t seen her in eons, even tho she lives in Alexandria, which isn’t all that far. We’ll meet at a restaurant about halfway between and see if we can catch up. And I promise not the show her every single pic of the world’s most amazing grands! There’s something to be proud of! Actually, last night I had to look to see if I had a decent, recent pic of the two. I mostly used my phone to send “here’s what they’re doing now” photos to my daughter when I was babysitting. So I found one I’ll share and that will be that.

Remember the olden days when people would pull out a long strip of pictures from their wallet? And they’d just bore you for maybe 10 minutes? Now they can whip out thousands of pictures and videos! :scream: But I don’t do that. Because I’m nice, dammit!

Anyway, the ice maker is running, FCD is still sleeping, and I’ve got just under 4 hours to kill before I have to drive to Waldorf. And so the day/week begins.

Happy Moanday!

I don’t think either of my Babcias would have understood either.

Bella’s been outside for all of about 32 seconds to relieve herself. Then had her breakfast and is now ensconced on the couch amidst a pile of blankies.

Not feeling very motivated. Snowed again overnight but looks to be less than 1/2". It’s very pretty. Since the high is only supposed to be 22*, it won’t melt on its own so I will have to layer up and once again shovel. But since it’s currently 14* with a wind chill of 2*, I think I will wait until it warms up out of the teens.

Meanwhile I think I’m going to catch up on some dvr’d shows. Did anyone watch SNL 50th last night? Was it any good?

FCM Hubs does the same and it annoys me since I too am the ice containers refiller.

In the last five days I have paid off both of our vehicles. When living on a fixed income ncreasing your cash flow is a good thing.

I saw the title and thought, I wish it was June. There a lot of snow and single digit lows this week.
Not going out except for groceries and vaxxs; same place.
I’m proud I was a virgin til age 23.
Two of my friends became moms at age 14.

-13F at about 0800 this morning. Wind chills this week will be in the -40 arena. Seems like a good week to do nothing at all.

Caution: Earworm ahead!

This got stuck in my head this weekend. For the cautious among you, it’s the theme song for The Funny Company - an animated kid’s show from the 60s. No clue why it popped into my head, but I hope by posting it, I can purge my brain.

You don’t have to listen to tell me if you remember it.

The brain stores such weird stuff and wheels it out at the oddest moments!

Anyway, I’m showered and dressed and ready to go meet Val - 2 anna half hours from now. Unless she calls to cancel. I should probably check my phone.

Lessee, I’m not too high on the fabulous scale.

Smug, though, I can do. I’m smug because I can track down garments and shoes on Poshmark that I can’t find elsewhere.

Here’s why that’s important: I sometimes find some garment or shoe that I love, love, love and that’s a sign for the manufacturer to promptly stop making such item. But as long as I have the name of the item, I can search Poshmark and find a lightly-used, or sometimes brand new, duplicate and at a discount price, too.

My latest acquisition is a pair of Vionic slippers. Vionic used to make this model called “Gemma”, which was great because you could alter the fit of them with a velcro tab. They stopped making them and now only make ones that come in one width, which hurt my feet. I found the old Gemmas on Poshmark by the dozen, and ordered a pair that was “new with tags” and only cost half as much as a new pair. I’ve stashed them against the apocalypse, or whenever my current pair of Gemmas wear out, whichever comes first.

I’ve also bought Carhartt mesh weave shirts and Ziera zip-up sneakers through Poshmark. Love that website.

I am up, though it’s much too early (here) for rising. Dang headache is keeping me from sleep. If I can rid myself of it in time to get any decent amount of sleep, I will go to a protest gathering at noon.

I’m in one of the reddest areas of a red state, so I expect the turnout will be small, and it will be difficult to blend in or not be recognized. So attending is going to take a bit of nerve. Wish me luck in keeping mine.

As for something fabulous: some years ago when teaching an EMT course two evenings a week, I realized I had class scheduled on President’s Day. To give them a change of pace and a bit of a laugh, I made each question on a 10-question quiz relate to a presidential anecdote from history, with extra brownie points for identifying the president.

Sometimes it was a stretch to relate the anecdote to EMS. Sometimes it was surprisingly easy.

Morning all. My bladder let me sleep to about 7am today, we’ll see how the rest of it works out. 32F going to 43F today so another good one to be indoors. Need to stop at the bank during the shop-n-sammich run this morning for a little extra cash, down to about $8 in-pocket and I like to have a little more than that available. Swim and sauna this afternoon and that’s about it.

Proud in that I’ve been to all Seven Continents in my life and that I’ve lost nearly 90 pounds in the past 30 months. Also proud at 72 that I only have to take 2 prescription pills a day…but I suspect that will increase as time goes by.

FCM, I do remember some of The Funny Company song, “come to order, come to order, that’s our President” is one line that comes to mind, but I remember zilch about the show itself. As for brain storing weird stuff, I can still sing the entire chorus to the old TV (1961) Sitcom Car 54 Where Are You, for reasons I cannot rationally explain. And enjoy getting together, hope it rekindles an old friendship.

boo fae, no inspections here in Ali-bama, sometimes I look at cars sharing the road with me and wish there were…

Hippie, that is good news and don’t spend all that extra cash in one place…

Coppertone, stay warm and happy vaxing.

Cookie, I agree, a good week to stay in (if the heater works).

lucky, shopping skills on-line are an art; you apparently are an artist.

And off to get the day’s first banana and doing the morning internettin’ Have a good week all.

Swell start to the day. After a light thaw yesterday, it got all the way up to 34 ferrets, the night’s freeze got my garage door frozen to the shut. I did eventually get it up-stuck, but the strain shattered one of the windows.

Hope all y’all’s weeks go better.

I called my pharmacy and they were going to ship my amlodipine today but my apt buzzer doesnt seem to work.
So I am having them mail it. Yes, I have enough of my scrip to last me until it comes.
Off to be vaxxed, no appt. necessary.

Weather forecast was accurate! It is currently -40 C & F. Sunny and calm, so no windchill factor. Today is a stat holiday and I was thinking of going to a movie, but I’m staying home.

Mornin’.

It’s 42F, and a light rain is falling. It’s going to rain off and on all day with varying degrees of intensity, and our high temperature is expected to be 49F.

I’m in the same camp as our resident bear regarding being proud of something.

JtC, we’ve had demonstrations at or near our state capital, and one is occurring today at Union Station in downtown Tacoma (about 35 miles north of the capital).

Not much on today’s agenda. Thankfully, I’m off work. I will wash our sheets and towels since I didn’t get to them yesterday. I should probably fuel up the Jeep, too. I’ll watch the newest White Lotus episode (the third season started last night) and mentally prepare myself for tomorrow.

BooFae, sending you big hugs.

FCM, enjoy the lunch with your friend.

Hippy, yay for paying off the vehicles. I do NOT miss having a car payment and am in no hurry to have another one.

I tried sleeping in but gave up after lying awake in bed for over two hours. I was up at 5:00 a.m. Maybe I’ll get a nap, but I doubt it.

You all take care.

It is 1 degree here in no. Illinois with wind chills 20 below. I’m going to the chiro then the gym. This freeze is hanging around for at least the next 3 days so I plan on staying home. The horses are being kept in because of dangerous wind chills.

I’m proud of a lot of stuff I know and can do and my accomplishments but I don’t talk about that kind of stuff.

I’m proud of you and will be with you in spirit cause my body is in WV’s state capital for the protest. So far, it is cold and there are a couple of dozen people milling around. Some of us have signs. I might give mine away, I can’t use my cane hold a sign and drink coffee all at once.

What fabulous thing have I done? I planted milkweed and then raised Monarch butterflies by hand. I watched the mom lay eggs and then went right over and cut off that part of the plant to put in my handmade butterfly nursery. When the eggs hatched, I harvested milkweed leaves daily for them to eat until they put themselves in their chrysalis . When their wings were dry I let opened the top of their cage and released them to join the Grand Migration.

I will be planting milkweed this spring. I know the Monarchs are recovering, but every little bit helps.

A long time ago, I prosecuted a guy who was walking down the street and kicked a little boy in the face, leaving the mark of his boot on the boy’s forehead.

He went to jail.

I’m proud of that.
