Howdy Y’all! We et Chinese foodstuffs (well, Amurrkinized) and went to the Food Kitty for a few items. A German chawklit cake insisted on comin’ home with us. We accomplished nappage and day drinkin’. Bourbon and ginger ale go well together. OYKW is watchin’ teevee in bed. I think I will join him shortly.
Driving across Elkhart, Indiana, we’ve seen a street change names 4 times.
There’s one here in Sacramento that has four different names. Going W → E, we have Pocket → Meadowview - > Mack → Elsie.
In Elk Grove (which borders Sacramento on the south), seems like every third street is Laguna (something). This can get rather confusing for the directionally impaired types like me.
I actually got hit by someone backing out of a driveway while I was sitting still in traffic one day. She couldn’t understand why I was so angry.
Arizona is a pretty young state and was laid out in street grids long before we moved there. It worked nicely in Phx, but we would be out in the middle of nowhere and come across 101st Blvd or something.
So far, WV hasn’t been nearly as logical regarding street names and all I have to say about that is thank goodness for Maps.
There are more emergency vehicles heading towards Harts but so far there I haven’t seen any ambulances heading that way or back this way on their way to the Regional Hospital. This is encouraging IMHO.
I’m sorry. I laughed because I totally believe it and can picture it in my mind!
Yay, the Spartans beat the Weasals!!!
That’s called a horsetail.
I got the cutting and coloring done on the trio of cards I started last night. I’ll assemble them tomorrow. There is 3.5 quarts of veggie broth in the freezer from today’s batch. Now it’s cuddle time until I take the chief cuddler out for his bedtime walk.
I RODE A HORSE TODAY! Not my horse. She’s a bit too spicy. My trainer and I put a western saddle on Astro who is the best school horse in the world. He’s probably 100 years old. We brought him to the mounting blovck where I climbed on top and we worked on weighting my left leg. (the one with barely any hamstring) and bringing my right leg up to the cantle. After doing that several times, I swung my leg over the cantle and gently dropped into the seat. Then we went for some walkies.
Getting down was a bit of a bitch. That’s where my leg weakness shows up the most. But it will get there and soon Ariel calms down from the winter zoomies.
I have recently recovered the recipe for a drink that years ago I learned at a Dopefest.
It’s called the Gilligan’s Island. Equal shots of Captain Morgan(Skipper), Goldschlagger(the Howells) and coconut rum(Professor) are added to ginger ale.(Ginger) Two cherries for Mary Anne, and ice for Gilligan. Shake it around and quaff.
I make jambalaya once a year, so I make it from scratch.
The regular NHL season has resumed. The Canes have apparently missed the memo. glad the Sazarc started on time, though.
Gotta make an appointment. Dealerships don’t work during a snow storm
Ugh, I did not sleep well last night - it was like I was too exhausted to get comfortable.
Anyway, today was definitely a “draggin’ ass” kind of day, and I was so grateful for my break - went to my car, sipped some soup, put my seat back, and took a damn nap.
Felt quite a bit better, though I still made undignified noises lifting heavy things.
Of course, now that I’m off work I feel pretty okay, although I suppose sitting my ass down & having an extended smoke had nuttin’ to do with that.
There’s still a (air-chilled! ooh, fancy!) chicken thigh in the fridge, and I have promised myself that I’ll bake & eat it.
I’m sure going to bed after only minor nibbles did not help.
How wonderful! I’m glad it went well.
I just got up and walked out to the kitchen, then walked back into my room. Hubs and the fuzzbutts are in bed. There is a pressed flower on my floor.
I think I’m …gonna smoke a lot of weed and think about this more.
I am SO happy for you! I hope your progress continues well enough to ride your baby again.
Yeah, I’m still figuring this winter thing out. According to the weather guessers, it will be 60F next week so maybe not after all.
Now you are just talking crazy.
I hope you feel better in the morning.
And yes. The dried flower is still here. I have a pic but too stoned to deal with fliker. I think I need more weed.
OK, I finally touched it. It isn’t a pressed flower, it is a dry leaf with kitty hair wrapped around it.
Not the dust kitty that happens if I don’t keep up with the floors (which got cleaned yesterday).
And a good evening all. Back from 6 hours of refereeing/watching/coaching soccer, so pretty much soccer’ed out. Had to be there, the gym requires someone ‘in authority’ to be present and since I am the Safety Director for the region, well… Most just watched and kept the time clock/scoreboard working (it’s a little wireless device, not some big fancy up-on-the-wall thing). Double-checked to make sure the gym was clear then turned out the lights and locked the door. Came home to eat and shower (not at the same time) and have completed both tasks, so just waiting for it to get late enough to head off to bed. Temp is down to 29F, which is cold but better than last week.
Yeah, in government talk that is ‘contraindicated’
Did a little browsing and they are reporting having to rescue at least 150 folks in Mingo County, which seems fairly close to you, so probably more rescuing and moving to higher ground than casualties.
Wet one, congrats on getting back in the saddle again. Hope things continue to work out for you and that you and Ariel can enjoy each other’s company again soon.
OK, need to finish the usual Sattiday internetting and head off to bed. Catch y’all on Sunday.
Yay! Back in the saddle again.
Is there any chance that your hubs is fluffin’ around with you for shits and giggles?
The chicken has left the oven. I repeat, the chicken has left the oven.
At least I made the damn thing - sometimes I want food; I promise myself I’ll make food, and then …
Already snarfed down all the crispy skin. (What?) And part of one roll, nicely soaked in buttery juices.
… gonna take a quick break to take care of the ratties, set my alarm, eat some more, hopefully get some damn sleep, and do it all tomorrow.
I am so sorry, but … bless your heart.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 36 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 59 and cloudy. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I get to plop in a pew. Afterwords I have a liturgy and music committee meetin’. We must plan for Lent and Easter. Then it will be back to da cave for a sammich and RDOS inactivities. Any need to feed today shall be via forage.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization will commence.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/49f with no predicted change, and cloudy. Weather app says “I often give zero fucks on days like this. Apparently, fucking Mother Nature also gives zero fucks.” It’s definitely cloudy out there, and we have a weather warning for strong winds, not quite gale force yet though.
This is getting beyond a joke for a place full of people who need heat. I hope you’re documenting all of the incidences, and the responses from management so you can go and wallop someone on the head with it.
I understand why you feel guilty but at the same time, you have no reason to be. Reading your posts, you’re up and out of the house very early for work, you’re home late, you don’t get a lot of time to yourself and yet you still have a lot of errands and stuff to do. You don’t get a lot of time just for “you”, and then you find Hubs is encroaching on that, I would be a little resentful too.
Cat Glove I hope your daughter is feeling better by now, and it’s nothing more than something she ate.
Fabulous! I’m so glad you were able to do that, and you can see what you need to work on so that you can get back to Ariel!
The haint brought you a gift?
Yesterday took an unplanned turn, but in a good way. It was pleasant out - sunny and warm, so we decided to walk into town instead of driving. Went for lunch at a relatively new place called Let’s Ketchup, they serve a lot of Indian food as well as classic burgers and stuff. Afterwards, we went our separate ways to do our errands (I spent most of my time in a pop-up bookshop!) and agreed to meet up in a pub later.
Both of the big commercial concert venues in town had something on (one had a comedian, the other had Marillion’s Fish on his farewell tour) so it was a little busier than usual. We have a usual pub route home starting in the Posada, then across the road to the Lych Gate, then a walk down to the Clarendon, and lastly a place called the Combermere Arms. We usually place our pizza order at Turkish Delight, go to the Combermere while they’re making it, pick it up and walk home.
Yesterday we deviated and called in at the Giffard after the Lych Gate. There were a bunch of people in there who were going to see Fish, and some to see the bands they’d got playing upstairs in the pub. Sitting there minding our own business, the guy who does all the bookings for the Giff asked us if we were here to see his bands because the first one had just started. I said we hadn’t bought tickets (and I knew it was sold out), he told us to go upstairs anyway! By the time we’d got up the stairs, he’d already messaged the door person to let us in for free. What a lovely guy!
We stayed for all three bands then went directly to the pizza place and then home. Usually we buy a large pizza and a kebab - 'im indoors has the kebab, I have some of the pizza and we split the rest of the pizza for lunch on Sunday. Perfect plan, works well for us. So, now I am sitting here slurping tea and looking forward to a couple of slices of leftover pizza.
It’s been a strange morning so far. I was awakened a bit after 5 by someone punching the side of my pillow/wedge. I’m betting he won’t remember the dream when he gets up.
For some reason as I lay there, I got to thinking about the house where my dad grew up and where I lived the first 2 years of my life. Needless to say, 70 years ago it looked a LOT different from the pics on the linked page. When my dad was finally able to sell it in the early 70s after his parents died, he was lucky to get just under $6K for it (no, not a typo)
Then I got to wondering if my youngest sisters remembered it. Kathy was 4 when Dziadzi died and Terri wasn’t even born, tho Busi continued to live there until maybe 1969 when she moved in with her oldest daughter. Anyway, my most vivid memories are the toilet in an outhouse in the back yard (I’m guessing it was an outhouse at first) and the tub and another toilet in the basement. My dad had a half-bath built in the kitchen after my grandmother fell and broke her hip on her way to the basement toilet. There were also 3 kitchens in the house - one on each floor. My grandparents took in boarders during the WW2. And when I was a kid, it was a neighborhood of warehouses and fish markets. Now it’s a very desirable area. No clue why I thought about that place.
Then when I checked my email, there was a “warning” that our internet account was blocked (gee, didn’t I need internet to see the email??) because our antivirus had expired. What really cracked me up was the sender’s address: superbrain@some unknown provider. And at the bottom was the address said Breezeline Canada, but the business there is GTT Communications in Toronto. Yeah, I’m sure that was legit.
Anyway, it’s another sunshiny day and I have no idea what I’ll do. FCD wants me to help him clean up his shop after he made many aluminum chips yesterday. Beyond that, no plans. It’s supposed to get up near 50° today - maybe I’ll have a look around the yard and start thinking about what needs to be done. Or not. Who knows?
Happy Sunday!!
Wrappin’ up bio-break after the customary 4 hrs. That was fairly deep, hard sleep - much gratitude! - and I’m about to plop back down under the blanket cocoon and hopefully enjoy some more.
