Good morning, everyone! I’m typing at you from just north of Baltimore, in the (freezing cold
) waiting room of the medical center where my dad is having trigger finger surgery. Yesterday, work was busy—not bad, but steady—and I’m behind on everyone’s news. This morning I’m on my iPad: quoting/replying to people is annoying via this interface, so this will be a short-ish post.
My alarm went off at 4:30am: I left my house at 5:35 and got to his place at 6:25, and we got to the medical center at around 6:55 (he had to be here by 7). They took him back shortly after we arrived, but his procedure isn’t scheduled to start until 8:30. The procedure is supposed to take 30 min, then there will be another 30 min of recovery; so, I expect to be hanging out here until 9:30. Have I mentioned that it’s freezing cold?? (8:03 update: I think the room might finally be starting to warm up; it’s possible the building’s heat hadn’t gotten going yet when we arrived.)
There was hardly any wind last night, and I was able to sleep in my bed! Yay! It’s supposed to be pretty gusty later today and somewhat windy overnight, but I really don’t want to sleep on the couch like I did Tuesday night: I’ve decided that if the loose piece of siding starts flapping around and making a racket again, I’m going to pull it off the house (assuming that I can). I’ll store it somewhere until my property manager sends someone out to fix it.
It’s currently 20ºF with a “feels like” of 10. Brrr. There’s snow in the forecast this morning, but luckily <1” of accumulation is expected. It’ll be cold again tomorrow (35), then in the 40s Friday and Saturday. High temps hit the upper 40s/low 50s starting on Monday: I’m ready!
Dad thinks he’ll want to get some breakfast when we leave here, so that will be the plan. Then I’ll take him back to his place. I probably won’t hang around there too long: he was up early, too, and might be tired after we eat. The medical center recommends having someone stay with you for 24 hours after anesthesia, but he’s like me when it comes to things like this: not really wanting anyone else around, and highly likely to be just fine alone. I expect to be back in Northern Virginia around lunchtime, but he’ll know he can call me if needed. I’ll stop at the grocery store on the way — I go every few days, for bananas and whatever else I’m running out of — and then will just chill for the rest of the day. My next Lego set is supposed to be delivered this afternoon; I might start it today.
The surgeon just called: Dad’s procedure is done already and there were no issues, and I’ll be able to take him home in 20-30 min. Yay!
I hope everyone’s doing alright—at least, mostly—and has a good Thursday.
