(Old) Missing an hour in the MMP

It means Laissez les bons temps rouler!!!1!1!!

Sounds like an absolute blast! I’d be happy to join that dream. With or without Doggio. But much better with; certain levels of zany just require a threesome.

When that duty is done you will miss it more than you now expect. Her trying to vex you (and injure herself) by wandering the house unassisted? Not missed so much. {{Hugs}} dear.

Flyboy, as to your drink, what is the consistency? How thick or chewy are the unfiltered [whatevers]? Like Blue Moon lager, like unfiltered ale, or more like muddy water with chunks? What’s the main flavor & notes?

I’m sure the collective MMP can come up with a great name for your custom concoction, but we need more data, Jim!

As to me, & quoting for context:

Well that was easy. Turns out they have two floors of “almost-penthouse” and “No kidding penthouse”. This is almost-penthouse = 13th floor with a balcony and view to die for and the right amount of efficient space and storage. Few large rooms, which is much better than many teeny ones.

I already knew the facility overall and the apartment fit & finish were great.

So I put in an application with partly refundable deposit and when it’s available I’ll take it unless I find something better meanwhile. Meantime I have right of first refusal on that unit. But I find that possibility pretty far-fetched in this town. And I’m not quite ready to move to Medellín or Vientiane. But that’s coming.

The management company here is the same as at my old apt w HL. Who were superb. Every interaction I had with every staffer today was great and I watched lots of tenants interact with them (and vice versa) highly positively. This is a home run. Game Set Match.

You might remember my saga of the construction crane across the street 6-12 months ago. They were building the condo building that the current apartment tenant is waiting for occupancy in. So he’s the kind of guy who buys $3M condos. He was quite gracious showing me his place. Which is small, 1000SF, but to kill for.

The current tenant is in month to month rental mode awaiting his condo that was supposed to be done 2 years ago (COVID sucketh greatly, and even more when making hefty mortgage payments where you can’t yet live).

He told me early May is what they’re telling him, but he doesn’t really believe it. I told the staff I’m flexible, and later is better than earlier. Meanwhile they know what sorts of apartment I want that would be even better than this one, and they’ll call me if one appears.

So Yaay me!!! Feelin’ stoked.

Just finishing my Prime rib Day dinner. NY cheesecake is next, then off to the outdoor geezer disco for Dueling Pianos night. I’ve never heard that act there. Oughta be great. Warm & pretty outside.

My roomie’s travel arrangements for Fri got all SNAFUed, so he switched to coming home today = Thu. Only to have that totally fuxxored by weather this noon / afternoon / evening at his intermediate stop in DFW. So instead of tomorrow he’ll be home tonight on a different airline at midnight. If nothing else goes wrong. I’m up at 3:30 to get ready to leave going the other way. We might say “hi”, or we might just exchange snores.

Cheers for the rest of Thu evening! See all y’all at 0-stupid-thirty on the train on Fri. Unless the airline here is SNAFUed tomorrow as a result of DFW today. Sigh. It’s always something.

Yay!!

Thank you. And to everyone else, yes, “Good Luck” is appropriate. It’s not SSDI because I am (was?) a teacher. However I expect my ‘success’ to be similar as if it was. I have been on leave since basically the beginning of the school year. The official reason is Bipolar, but there’s a lot of anxiety, self-harm thoughts, and other stuff tied to it. And, as has been established, this is a pattern. This is at least the third time that I was unable to work/left a job for similar reasons. So we’ll see what happens tomorrow.

It’s been a very strange day here so far. I have virtual therapy appointments every Thursday and today was no different. Unfortunately for both of us, it was one of the saddest and most awkward ones ever. The husband of my therapist passed away suddenly at the end of last week. It was such a sad and uncomfortable situation that I didn’t know what to say.

Its consistency is like water. Not really cloudy, and no ‘chunks’ to speak of. Just little pieces of residue. It tastes like apple cider, but with a bite. And not as sweet, since there’s no sugar or honey in it.

As I said, I’m deuced what to call it. Do say if anyone thinks of a name.

You’re dang near in Ohio up there.

{{{cat glove}}} I hope that your hubby’s progress goes well. Take care of yourself and get a little respite.

I hope that there’s nothing serious wrong with your eye BooFae.

Happy birthday dicey!

Irk didn’t suck nearly as badly today. I was able to make some headway on my backlog. Both leads (including the one I figure will be my new boss) were in and out all day dealing with the offshoot department that shares my cow-orker’s and my space, so they saw me at my constructive busyness and generally keeping things moving.

TGIT! Called the insurance adjuster this afternoon and I’ll call the dealership tomorrow so’s they can release my car to the body shop for repair. Yes, they haven’t even started yet because of the dispute. While the Nissan that I’m driving is nice, I really want my own wheels back under me.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Is that a bad thing?

Pro: Dispensary in town.
Con: DSL

Do be warned that if they find more damage after starting (they can’t see everything until they take the car apart), the job will take longer.

That’s probably because you put the beer on your cereal.

Leftover Indian food for dinner. I could easily finish off the rest; mine, Wifey’s, and ours. Including the evil rice. But I’ll be good. Already I’m feeling somewhat sated. And the half-piece of TJ’s garlic naan is just as good as what the restaurant has.

Up from naptime, had a Royal Hawaiian, Bojangles seasoned chicken, and am watching hockey.

[Mad Scientist]MY ARMY OF CYBORG PLATYPUSES WILL DESTROY YOU ALL![/Mad Scientist]

Yeah Mom had COPD, 2 replaced knees, and breast cancer, and thye turned her down.

My parents lived in Hazard Ky for a couple of years. It’s nice if you like, meth, hillbillies that frighten the Deliverance banjo player, and your house sinking into the old coal mine.

Why not, it’s whole grain.

I believe that might be called a ‘shrub’, if my memory derived from a wasted life of reading historical fiction serves us right.

You are indeed correct.

*sigh* Two perfectly good set-ups gone to waste.

But thanks for the actual definition.

Shortly after my wife died I crashed my car. Complete mental distraction on my part. No injuries, but the car was a mess. My shop wanted to total it, the insurance wanted to fix a nearly new high end German car with all aftermarket Chinese parts. COVID was just fading, so even getting an adjuster to visit the car in person was an ordeal.

A year later the insurance finally bowed to reality & paid off the car. After massive uncompensated effort by my shop to document the degree of damage the insurance co was prepared to ignore or paint over.

I’d bought another car 2 days after the crash, and took delivery 2 days later, so was not greatly inconvenienced other than making monthly payments on a crunched hulk for 12 months.

Bottom line for you: be prepared for a shit-marathon. I’m sorry you have to deal with this, but that’s how the industry is going.

Holy crap. How did I miss this the first time??!?

I know diddly about Morehead specifically, but good bet it’s far trumpier and radical Xian than where you are now, and that somehow whack-job politics is a large part of Hub’s fresh interest in this place.

I have visited other towns in rural KY, and pig-ignorant is a decent first approximation to the locals’ attitudes. They’d shoot people for being charitable about cast-off food.

My musical foray was a dud and I’m back home sittin’ outside in the last of the warmth communing w y’all before quickly packing a couple days’ mostly warm clothes and crawling into bed. 0320 comes early.

G’night all!

Evening all. The HVAC guys were here from 8:15am to 3:15pm, seemed very competent and professional, so hopefully they earned there pay, the system seems to be working better but today was so nice there was little need for heating or cooling so the jury is still out. After putting that substantial debt in my checkbook, I went shopping at Wal-mart and then spent 2 hours out at the soccer field working with 9 young ladies regarding the game of soccer. Had a couple of other coaches to help, so it went pretty smoothly and the kids seemed to have a good time. Home for some ham-n-cheesers and considerable Diet Pepsi, so am fed and hydrated. Rain is due in the very early hours tomorrow and looks to be around for most of the day…oh joy.

Pilot, sounds like the housing situation is working out. I’m planning to stay in my house until I reach 75, but one more damn thing goes wrong or breaks and… Haven’t been in an auto museum in years, will have to remember that one. And ain’t it nice that you can just get up and go to S. Cal for a weekend?

JtC, in that part of KY, you’ll be about a six hour drive from me and 4.5 hours to red and Real Fish, so if you do move there we’ll have to have a Mumper get-together.

Wheelie, safe travels and good luck on the hotels. Enjoy the game and be sure to wave at JtC when you fly by.

FCM, following the rake’s progress and MIL continuing issues, hope both work out for the best.

red, know what you mean, when my car was in the shop due to a bad head gasket for weeks, the rental vehicles seemed so…odd to drive. Glad things are finally progressing.

Nearly 9pm and beginning to feel the results of trying to keep up with 9 year old girls. Take care and see everyone Firday.

Well, dang. I was hoping to move away from some of that shit.

That’s really hard to believe.

That is probably at least 95% of the reason. He reads Epoch Times every morning.

He would rather move to West Virginia to be closer to his family, but that is a hard NO on my part.

At least I will get another cross country drive out of it, I always enjoyed driving to WV when his folks were alive. Watching the land and plants change was endlessly fascinating. To me.

Suddenly moving there sounds more attractive!!!

Pro: 3 needlework stores in town.
Con: hurricanes and lack of nice dark skies at night.

When you go up north to Cedar Point this summer, a side trip to the Auburn Cord Deusenberg Museum in Auburn, IN just may be in order.

Hurricanes? In the hills of eastern Kentucky?

We had a tornado touch down south of us tonight here in Ohio. Scary

Well, I dunno. Google says Kentucky is prone to hurricanes? Tornados? I’ll be looking at that sort of thing over the next month. While I think that living somewhere green and close to a hospital would be A Good Thing, I also think that losing my support system would probably be A Bad Thing.

I also noticed that all of the places hubs was looking at were bigger than what we currently own. I do NOT want a bigger place, that just gives us more room to put stuff and we already have way too much stuff!

Yes, very scary. I’m thinking about that part really hard.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Very. Glad you’re safe.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 13c/55f and cloudy. Weather app says “There’s a fucking shit ton of clouds in the sky. That’s about it.” Seems reasonable. I cannot see the sky today because I’ve shut the blinds over the window in the office. I sit by the window and the brightness is hurty on my poorly eye.

Went to the eye clinic yesterday, spent about 3hrs there but it was a successful visit. Finally got to see a doc, she looked at my eye and just said “oooh…that’s raging angry!” and confirmed it’s an ulcer. I’ve got steroid drops and anti-biotic drops for the next 4 weeks, and a telephone follow-up next week. I can’t go for a physical follow-up because I’m going on holiday next Thursday so she’s happy for me to have a phone consult, and of course if nothing changes before then, I’ll be straight back there. I’ve put three doses of both drops in already, and things are feeling much better.

JtC the doc told me years ago to bypass the GP, they often misdiagnose this as conjunctivitis, similar treatment but not quite strong enough. Also, what is the Hub thinking of with KY? What made him want to look at homes there?

Pilot congrats on the housing plan, that does sound like it will be a good move for you. Looking forward to tales of the new palace!

Sticky Buns hope the consult goes well, and good luck with the application. If at first you don’t succeed, and all that…

metal mouse yay for HVAC success!

coppertone glad you’re ok out there

Not much excitement so far in my day - I was running a bit late this morning so caught the bus after the one I usually get on. Got to the station in time for my usual train but it was cancelled. The next one got me to Big City Station with five minutes to scuttle from platform 5 to platform 10, and I squeaked onto the non-stop nice train to campus. Got to the office pretty much on time.

Now I’ve had a cup of tea and some breakfast, I should start thinking about some actual work, right?

Mornin all. It’s 0440, a cool shade of almost warm enough but real dark, and I’m just settled on the train to the plane. I didn’t pack last night and slept a bit nervous. Wasn’t quite warm enough either which was bad. But once the alarm sounded I went from sound asleep to sheveled, packed, and in the Uber in 35 minutes flat. So ended up sitting at the train station for a lot longer than expected. Uber timing is always a crapshoot. You can look and see 6 idle cars hovering nearby, so you choose to wait 15 minutes at home, then check again, and suddenly they’re all gone and it’s an estimated 25 minutes until one can arrive and now you’re committed to missing the train. BTDT, but not today.

I have a feeling there will be napping on the plane ride. Heck, there might be napping on the train in a couple minutes. I would not be the only sleeping form on the train.

metalmouse congrats on a good HVAC fix. And on getting run ragged by the kids; that’ll keep you young for sure, even as it makes some of your parts feel old.

I am well aware I’m very fortunate. I also spent almost 35 years with the capability, but almost entirely unable to use it due to one thing or another. “Thing” usually being a wife who couldn’t or wouldn’t. So I’m definitely makin’ up for lost time. I expect my long term equilibrium will be a bit les frenetic.

It smells to me like the “redoubt” movement. Which is to say, move to someplace far from cities where you can shoot the ravening hordes of innocent Americans after the civilizational apocolypse makes the evil cities unlivable. And someplace with enough natural water where you can grow crops and hunt game like a pioneer. Yeah, sure, like an increasingly senile late 70-something is gonna succeed at that.

You know the dynamics between you two and I sure don’t. But my fear is that as soon as he sees it his mind will be made up that’s he’s living there whether you tag along or not. Leaving you with a very bad decision to make.

IMO maybe better to never take that drive for … reasons.

Good luck w all that. Seriously, not snarkily.

Glad to hear the quick progress. You’re a veteran of this stuff, but eye trouble of any sort is still a real scary prospect.
