Woke during the night for the first time in a week. Maybe its a sign of feeling better.
Supposed to storm later, I should be inside by then.
So it appears my reaction is probably based on my total dislike of little hunks of dried bread in my salad… All you crouton-eaters may have my share.
I can so identify. MIL fell yesterday because she, again, refuses to let us know when she’s up and about so we can stand by. Our recliners are electric so the footrests don’t go down as fast as when you just throw a handle. So when she toddled in and started to crumble, neither of us could get up fast enough, tho I somehow got out of my chair without dropping the footrest. Still, she sat down hard on the floor, then fell back against the piano bench, whacking her shoulder. The woman will NOT listen! All we can do is hope she won’t fall and break a bone or crack her skull.
MIL told me yesterday she want to give us $400/month for her expenses here. That’s probably a bit on the high side, but I didn’t quibble, as, frankly, it’ll come to us eventually. And considering groceries, extra electricity/hot water/laundry/dishes, plus all the gas for FCD to haul her to doctor visits, maybe it’s not that much over the top. So I set up for an automatic transfer to our VISA once a month, since we pretty much pay for everything with plastic.
Gotta run to Food Lion today for BOGO Coke products. Hoping to get some rakeage in also. Maybe clean a bathroom or two. Or not. It’s too early to make such momentous decisions.
Happy Thursday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! YAWN ‘Tis 47 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 80 and N.O.S. for the day. A warm and pollen filled day ahead. We had a very good discussion group last night at soup ‘n sammich, along with some good tortellini soup. I have to people way more than I like over the next five days as this afternoon and tomorrow I will be over in the church house kitchen helpin’ to prepare for the big St. Patrick’s feast on Sattidy. Sunday is, well, deheathenization time and Moanday eveninl is men’s night. I will have to leave da cave five days in a row. How shall I ever survive! Oh well, I can sloth this mornin’ and we will have majik intartoobz pizza and sallit along with pee-kahn pie we bought yestiddy in honor of Pi Day.
Cat_Glove glad to see you back and yay for some good news about hubs. I know both of you have been through a lot. Glad daughter could be there for a good part of it all. As others have said, take help whenever you can get it and take time for yourself. It’s important for a caregiver to take a break to recharge.
I have been remiss!
< AHEM > CLEARIN’ THROAT < AHEM >

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Thursday Y’all! Happy Pi Day!
Good morning!
It’s 37 degrees and clear outside. We might see a few clouds later in the morning, but by afternoon it’ll be clear and sunny with an expected high temp of 57 degrees Fahrenheit.
catglove, it’s so good to see you post again. As others have said, please take some time for yourself, too. I’m glad your daughter was there for part of the recuperative journey, and I hope all continue to progress well.
FCM, so frustrating about your MiL. I have no words of advice, just commiseration.
It feels like it should be Friday, but it’s only Thursday. The week has been busy, and I’m tired, I guess. I only made it to 11 hours yesterday before I called it a day. The good news is that I’m off Monday and Tuesday and will be far too busy to peek at my work computer.
Just before my alarm went off, I dreamed that my husband forgot to take down the garbage, and I was pissed because it was full. So, I had to drag it down, thanking whomever that the truck was running late and hadn’t arrived yet. I woke up irritated with my husband because he’d forgotten to take the garbage down, which was yet another thing I had to take care of. Dreams are silly.
There is not much else to report here. The day will consist of work and more work. I might sneak a load or two of laundry in, too.
Oh, the pest guy came yesterday and checked the bait stations, traps, and under the house. There were no pests, thank goodness. Still, I’ll gladly pay my $114.00 a quarter to ensure that continues.
Take care!
Morning all The HVAC folks said they would be out early around 8am, so I’ve moved my car and opened the garage door, which of course means they won’t show until 10am… Supposed to hit the 80Fmark today, but rain is expected tonight and tomorrow and that will coo things down. Turned the water on to run the dishwasher, so have also broken my fast early today so all the dishes get washed. Gym and other activities will depend on how long the HVAC people spend rummaging around my attic.
JtC, far as I know our library doesn’t do anything like that, just hope it is the people who need it are getting it and not some folks who are just grabbing free stuff cause they can…and it seems like GG has been around the MMP since he was a wee kit. And remind me on 5/25 about the towel; just re-read the HHGTTG and would want to honor him…but properly dressed, of course…
Flyboy, yeah, our pool is 25 yds, so it’s 70 lengths plus 10 more yards. Did 72 yesterday.
No pie for pi day here, I’m afraid, but might take a look and see if some is available…
boo fae, hope the eye problem is not serious, this is my every-other-year visit to the eye doc, probably sometime in April/May.
FCM, I think $400/month is fair, given the extra stuff you need to do even more would be good but I don’t know MIL’s finances or how much she spends on her own, so if you are happy about it I am too.
Happy Birthday. DICEY!
I hope you meant the whole day, because if that was work time then . Just got my quarterly bill from Cook’s Pest Control, it’ll be in the mail later today.
And that’s the morning news from Casa Rat. Have a good Thorsday all.
That was work time, metalmouse.
Boofae, hope the eye problem is sorted quickly!
I’ve had this happen - OK, not being irritated with your husband, but dreams that left me pissed off at someone. I woke one morning absolutely furious with a coworker, and the feeling hung with me all day. Granted, I didn’t particularly like this coworker, but she’d never done anything to me - it was more a personality thing. Still, it was a weird, uncomfortable day!
FCD thinks it’s too much. MIL said she’d give us more if necessary. But like I said, it’ll all come to us eventually, so I’m not sweating it. It’ll cover when we take her out to eat also.
Back from Food Lion and Aldi. I got a hunk o’corned beef, a head of cabbage, and some spuds and onions, so at least one weekend meal is planned. The PT was leaving just as I got home. MIL is napping, and FCD is going to Habitat to look for something to hold his printer - he doesn’t like the cabinet he’s been using. So the house is quiet and I think I’ll sit and read for a bit.
Do you have to report when she falls?
My ex with MS fell 3 times in one day and he was sent to a nursing home without having a say in the matter.
BooFae, I remember you having eye problems before and I haven’t posted here very much in years. I’m sorry that you have to keep dealing with this.
Well, MusicMan and I are sitting here across from each other at the kitchen table because we’ve been nicely asked to leave the living room. My mom has a virtual appointment with her therapist and we are not invited (nor would we want to be!). I’m just waiting for Walmart to let me know that the groceries are ready for me to come pick them up and then I’ll be heading out the door.
In other news, tomorrow is a big(?) nerve-wracking day. I have an appointment with a Psychiatrist in Cleveland to determine if I am crazy enough to receive disability. All things considered, I sincerely doubt that it will work out in my favor, but that’s a long story that I don’t have time for because they just let me know that the groceries are ready.
Reasonable heaving again. Plus Shaggy was sent to badly do things elsewhere. I went to Teeter for my senior day groceries(beer and cereal)
Me: < shakes bran flakes box > “Look Spot, I eat dry, flavorless bits and enjoy them!”
Spot: “You eat dry, flavorless bits, and look like you have terminal mange. I’d prefer the Sunday pig.”
< crosses fingers(but not eyes) > Hope that it’s an easy fix, boofae!
Plus the gin to deal with the stress.
Better him than me. Women tend to dream of me being tortured and skinned. And people wonder why I’m single.
Good luck?
Afternoon (or it will be by the time I finish this) al. The HVAC folks got here a bit after 8am and have been working steadily since then, both up and outside and in the house, so I am not disturbing them and doing soccer stuff on the computer (and playing spider solitaire). Did run out for a bit and mail a letter and gassed up the car, but that’s as active as I’ve been. Guys have been polite and professional and I hope this is the last big HVAC bill I’ll be paying for quite awhile. On the weather front it is 73F and N.O.S., so soccer tonight should have a good turnout (I hope).
Sticky Buns, like doggio I’m not sure which way to root, just hope it is the best possible outcome for you.
Taters, that’s a lot. Been there, exhausted by that.
OK, back to staying out of the way and then paying the costs. A good day all.
Feeling achy after yesterday’s workout. This is what happens when you skip a few days. Mild weather continues in Big Minnie, but the weather woman was making ominous sounds last night about what might happen in 10 days’ time. As in snow and freezing temps.
Wordled, puzzled, abluted and shopping is done. Time to do a bunch of nothing (again).
Taters, nobody should ever use the word “only” when describing an 11-hour work day. I hope things ease up for you soon.
We finally tried the fancy French place in the Village the other day. It was just for lunch and we had sandwiches, but they were delicious sandwiches. And it’s not as pricey as we expected. I’m sure we’ll be back for dinner sometime soon.
Getting ready to head to the Phoenix area next week. Hotel prices are jacked up because of Spring Training; the project manager is still scrambling to find affordable lodging. I hope we don’t end up in some dump. It’s just five nights, so whatever, I guess.
My colleague and I have already bought tickets to a ball game next Thursday night - Brewers vs. Giants. Yay, baseball!
Gorgeous weather, so I spent an hour or so raking out the front garden, and I have a blister on my thumb to show for it, even tho I was wearing gloves! Rain is supposed to move in tomorrow afternoon, but I should be able to rake another bed in the morning. We shall see.
MIL is having a bad day - she fell last night and she’s been shaky today. I think she gets discouraged because one day she’ll feel pretty good, then the next day (like today) she’ll be unsteady. We try not to hover, but last night, she fell against the piano bench. The lady is just a tad stubborn.
I’m going to make a pseudo shepherd’s pie for supper - I plan to top it with tater tots, just because. For now, tho, chillage.
Here too. I think I’ll go on a walk at noon.
I saw the neighbour across the creek, and gave him the heads-up about the eagles hunting around here. He knew, and is watching his cats (which he lets outside, but they stay close), but seemed to appreciate the warning. He said he saw a juvenile eagle in a tree nearby the other day, and it had caught something.
Hi all. Nearly 1pm on Thu as I start. Been a busy 24 hours for me.
Yesterday = Wed after leaving the hotel I found a Mom’n’Pop diner, had a great corned beef hash benedict and grits for late breakfast, then spent an hour there warming up and letting the calories soak in. Much improved morale after that. Less shivering too.
Did go from late breakfast to the Orlando Auto Museum. An odd mix of a couple hundred beautiful, significant, properly curated, and well-restored cars, plus another 1500 random cars & other wheeled gizmos in clean if indifferent condition. It felt like a serious connoisseur collector got too rich and too senile then just started buying any/everything he saw. But a worthwhile visit for sure. Can recommend. The gold nuggets more than paid for panning the gravel. I recognize some of the show-biz related collection from museums that used to be in SoCal but have since shut down. This guy may have built his collection from a series of defunct car museums all over the country. I know that process is ongoing in the aviation museum biz.
Once car-ed out, I set off for home at late afternoon. Was passing Port St. Lucie about 90 minutes north of home and noticed the sign for their stadium. As in MLB spring training. This is a stadium I’ve never seen; no real reason to drive this far from home just for a game, but since I’m already right here … . Hmmm.
By now it’s about 4:15pm and most ST games are played in the afternoon, but not all. So I pulled over and pecked at my phone. I’m in luck: HOU will play here at NYM at 6:10. So I buy a ticket on my phone then stop at a Panera to charge my devices and get a half-caff to recharge me for the newly late planned night. Got parked, into the stadium, and got to my seat with peanuts and a drink in hand just as they threw out the ceremonial pitch. Lovely weather too.
Decent if glitch-prone game for 8 innings with the home team NYM dominating. Then a cliffhanger 9th as visiting HOU came back from a 1-5 deficit to tie 5-5. All done on their very last out in the top of the 9th. Then they almost forced extra innings in the bottom of the 9th. But the home team would not be denied in the 9th, so a walkoff single RBI sealed the deal at 5-6 and by 9:30pm I was in the car headed home. Once home I started laundry & crawled into bed.
Up today, did the usual morning crap, got the smashed bugs washed off the car, PO box drained, etc. Including a 90-minute sunbathe just now in the 80-something warmth under nearly clear skies.
In other news …
Starting yesterday morning I had a potential breakthrough on the residential front. I’m cautiously stoked.
There’s a very swanky existing but fairly new apartment building near the one I’ve told you about that’s under construction. HL & I had looked at this one when shopping 2 years ago and rejected it as a bit too expensive and a bit too far from the area we (read “she” with me in relaxed agreement) wanted for max walkability. But a very nice place except for the less-than-ideal address.
It occurred to me yesterday that its location is a little bit better than the under-construction place. And given that HL’s complex is off-limits I’d accepted that OK-minus location as good enough. So I thought “Why not look at the swanky one again now, since it’s better than where I’m thinking of already?”
Turns out they have a 1BR+den (IOW 2BR without a closet in, or bathroom for, one of the BRs). It’s the penthouse floor w what seems to be the ideal location in the building coming available on 1July, so 3-1/2 months from now. By which time HL will be fully in the rear view mirror and I will have had time to shop well for furniture, even with delivery delays.
I’m going to tour it late this afternoon. It might be big enough, or it may be the land of almost enough. We shall see. Trying to avoid counting chickens, but I hear some faint peeping noises. If I can place a small deposit now, even if non-refundable, that lets me wait out the under-construction place opening so I can compare.
Also decided yesterday to go to Southern California for the upcoming weekend. My #1 younger bro & his ex-wife (best friends still) live there and her birthday is this upcoming week. I can't be there on the day, but I can be there this weekend.
So up and out stupid early tomorrow = Fri to uber to train to nonstop plane to Orange County. Whereat I started flying planes 55 years ago. Staying here Pacific Edge Hotel for 3 nights & coming back Mon afternoon getting home a bit past bedtime. All activities while there are TBD. It’s only great beach weather if fully clothed in layers, but it’s a pretty time of year. Great for walking and talking and …
As to y’all and your 40 posts since yesterday …
Yeah. Lotta folks in my biz suffer a bunch when the pilot comes home for good. HL & I transitioned from tolerable to intolerable about then; the rest of the time since was just my reluctance to admit defeat and pull the trigger.
Ouch for the day, but hooray for the future. Sounds like things are probably looking up. Here’s hoping new supe is everything you want and so richly deserve.
Yeah, those single-serving 24 oz bags are a bear!
Yaay for you and Mom having a “together” conversation.
I remain in awe. We shan’t discuss how long ago was the last time I did my pitiful little routine.
Me putting the stake in the heart of that marital mistake is by far the best thing I have done for myself in a long time. There are no regrets, no pain; just a relentless optimism for my future which is now so bright I gotta wear eclipse glasses. At night.
No need to feel sad for me. But thank you for the well-wishes, not matter how expressed.
This.
We had quite a thread a few years ago about people waking up from a dream wherein their spouse misbehaved and then they were angry with the real spouse in the real world. Two teams formed up in the thread: the “being real-world angry over a dream is totally justified” team and the “That’s friggin’ insane!” team.
Yeah. That’s a tough one to respond to in an appropriately supportive fashion. Whatever result you want, I hope you get it. Assuming you’re sane enough that your wants are in fact in your best interest. Hmmm; that’s not working well at all.
Lemme try again: Good Luck!

Gorgeous weather, so I spent an hour or so raking out the front garden
Yaay for finally raking; you’ve been looking forward to that for a week+.
Tater tot shepard’s pie is certainly authentic enough.
Sorry (but unsurprised) to hear about MIL’s variable strength but unyielding stubbornness. They sorta go together.
As to me:
it’s now after 3pm, another friend stopped by for awhile to yak, and now I need to hustle to get to my apartment viewing. But I wanted to finally get this on the wire …
Afterwards for Pi day I’ve decided to take myself for the PrImE Rib special. That’s spelled close enough to Pi / Pie for as crookedly as I keep score on such things.
Cheers all. Pi(e) forth!!
Finally got out on my walk for the first time in a couple of weeks. Did the usual 3.1 miles, and averaged 3.08 mph. I was walking up the beach, about 0.4 mile from finishing, when I saw a couple coming down the beach. I said hello, as I do, and as soon as I said it I realised it was my quack primary care provider. So now he knows I’m not lying when I say I exercise.
Having a ‘tonic’ of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar (with ‘mother’) and water. I need to think of a name for it, but I’ll be deuced if I can think of one.

Do you have to report when she falls?
No, but we will make every effort to be with her when she’s moving about. But she won’t always let us know - she’s ever-so-slightly pigheaded…

Women tend to dream of me being tortured and skinned.
And when I dream of you, it involves roller skates, stale cotton candy, an oversized goldfish bowl, and assorted marsupials. What do you supposed that means?

As in snow and freezing temps.
It’s currently showing 80° in my back yard. Next week, we’re promised highs in the 40s and a couple of sub-freezing nights. So much for putting the plants back outside…
The tater-tot cottage pie (beef instead of lamb, so not shepherd’s pie) is in the oven. FCD and his mom are on the way back from her Dr appt - I can’t recall which doc this is, but I seem to recall that she doesn’t intend to see him any more. I think she’s ready to opt for hospice care.
I got the bed in front of the porch mostly raked out and I dragged the leaves into the woods. Tomorrow I may rake out the forsythia hedge that’s outside the front bedrooms. Depends on when the rain moves in. But I’m done for today, except for doing supper and dishes. Oh, and I think MIL wants to shower tonight, so I need to help her get in and get out, plus sit just outside the door while she’s in there. So I have that to look forward to.

I have a history of ulcerative kertatitis, I’ve been to the eye clinic with the same thing so many times that I have been told to bypass my GP and go straight to them instead.
Well, dang! I hope this is something simple.

unless Spot sees a dingo, then he can floof up to GG size
Every so often, GG will floof at VBC. He does that whole sideways Halloween cat thing in his attempt to impress her. She is never impressed, but we always are!

my total dislike of little hunks of dried bread in my salad…
I don’t like them in my salad either! Then they get mushy and not good.

MIL fell yesterday because she, again, refuses to let us know when she’s up and about so we can stand by.
I am so sorry things are going badly. This must be so frustrating for everyone, not to mention scary.

I will have to leave da cave five days in a row.
Holy cow!!! You are a stronger person than me!!!
Happy Pi Day

JtC, far as I know our library doesn’t do anything like that, just hope it is the people who need it are getting it and not some folks who are just grabbing free stuff cause they can
The local libraries just started doing this, maybe it will catch on. The library workers empty my box for me and take certain things to the back for specific people so I’m guessing they know the needs of their community pretty well.

I have an appointment with a Psychiatrist in Cleveland to determine if I am crazy enough to receive disability.
If you are referring to Social Security Disability, expect to be turned down at least twice before being approved. I haven’t gone through the process, but I have heard from folks who have and the denials were a constant thread in all of their stories. I wish you much success.

Feeling achy after yesterday’s workout. This is what happens when you skip a few days.
Yeah…that whole getting old thing kinda sucks doesn’t it? It’s still better than the alternative.

My colleague and I have already bought tickets to a ball game next Thursday night - Brewers vs. Giants.
Cool, I hope you enjoy it! Remember to pack your sunscreen and a hat for the daytime, it is warming up nicely down there.

But a very nice place except for the less-than-ideal address.
I hope you like it! It’s nice to be able to take your time moving and decorating.
Today Hubs dropped a bombshell on me, he’s been looking at homes in Moorehead, KY of all places. I have never spent more than a night in Kentucky and he hasn’t either so I’m not sure why he picked it but we will go for a week or so at the end of April and see what we think.
Pro:
It is green. It has water. It has a hospital and a college. The cost of living is lower. Many of the houses he showed me have mature trees.
Con:
Moving sucks and moving across the country will suck even worse. Kentucky is redder than Az. It gets snow every winter.
Hmmmm.
Howdy Y’all! Been back at da cave for a little while after an afternoon of cookage over to the church house. I smell like corned beast, which ain’t a bad thing. Majik intartoobz pizza and sallit have been ingested. In a while I shall celebrate pi day by nukin’ a piece of pee-kahn pie and addin’ a scoop of 'niller ice cream. YUM!
