(Old) Missing an hour in the MMP

One of the lessons from elders with ancient food in their pantries, ancient condiments in their fridges, and cooking and eating off badly washed utensils is that most of us worry far, far too much about that crap.

Those folks are living proof the vast majority of expiration dates do not matter. And that a little dust or dead gnats in your tea has zero health consequences.

We probably all could stand to be a little less squeamish about these topics.

I prefer that cookware and utensils be clean, thanks. It may not kill me, but it surely grosses me out - ick.

MIL has talked a lot over the years about shopping - I think it was a recreational activity for her. But this week I’m starting to think it was beyond that. As she’s sorted thru clothes, she’d mention “I got this because it was a good deal. But I’ve never worn it!” OK, so then how good a deal was it? If you hadn’t bought it in the first place…

She has 4 unworn identical dressy black t-shirts. She can’t wear them now because they’re too big. No matter how good a deal they were, they’re about to be donated. I dunno - maybe I lack that shopping gene, but it seems if you buy something you don’t really need and never use, is it really such a bargain??

I have declared that the deli is making our supper - fried chicken, slaw, beans. Yum!

I havent posted a lot because my phone got its Gb’s. It was 50 a month, then I signed up for the affordable connectivity program, which makes it 20. Still can’t afford that, so my plan gives me 2GB a month, which lasts me about 4 days. After that, I still get internet, it just is much slower.
Training was good yesterday. I love ringing customers up and saying Enjoy!
On again tomorrow.

Voted today. Took Ariel’s blankets and saddle pads in to be washed. Exciting day….

Ordered Indian food for dinner, but it won’t be ready until 16:15.

I am awake and sitting with the poodle. I’ve worked for a bit off and on and am contemplating my next move (or lack of move).

When Nelson was a wee pup, i always worried about red tailed hawks swooping down for him. Only one of the reasons why he was almost always leashed outside.

Happy birthday dicey!

I’m glad that your thumb isn’t broken oopsie.

Croutons are totally snack items. As someone above said, mini garlic bread.

Today was full of suckatude at work with many F-bombs muttered. Needless to say, I’m glad that tomorrow is Idiot Boss’ last day in the department. I’m pretty sure that the lead that I like will become the new supe. However, the twerp is on my shit list.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

17 o’clock, and we’ve eaten. Mrs. L.A. had butter chicken (as usual), saag paneer, rice, and Trader Joe’s garlic naan – all no spice. I had ‘five out of 5 stars’ goat curry, saag paneer, a small amount of rice, and a bit under a half a slice of naan.

Yum.

Hm… Maybe a little more goat.

Happy Dicey Day!!! :cake: :sparkler: :firecracker:

Have you ever made your own bleu cheese dressing? It is fast and simple and OMG, so much better than store bought stuff. Just a suggestion.

I’ll bet Nelson was a cuuuuute pup! Got any pics?

But yeah, the main reason hawks don’t get more kittens and puppies out this way is because the coyotes are too fast for them.

I hope work improves without IB around.

Absolutely. I always ask for my croutons on the side so I can take them to munch on later.

My needlework stash lives in plastic bins under the spare bed. It’s all good

And you just know that they all loved saying that!!!

What a long slog, please remember to take care of yourself as well. Even if it’s only stealing 15 minutes to sit in the sun and breathe.

So, despite getting so festive last night, I was up in time to get our weekly surplus box. One of the ladies I’ve been picking up has really been missing her walks so I think she’s going to bail when the temp gets over 50F when it’s time for her to leave, but the other lady seems pretty happy to not have to make the walk so I might have a permanent passenger. I don’t mind at all, she’s delightful company, the gleaning program is A Good Thing and her home is on the way.

Today we got many red apples and baby potatoes. There were a couple of oranges and white onions, a restaurant sized bag each of chopped celery and cross sliced carrots, bread, eggs, lactose free milk (which I only drink out of desperation, but TC friend can’t drink anything else so she got ours), green Gatorade which TC friend also took and a HUGE bag of plain Lays potato chips.

That pound and a half of chips will go to the library food shelf tomorrow, I don’t dare open it, we both like them too much.

I’ve been watching baking shows again, so finally bought some weights to blind bake pie crusts. I was all excited about being able to try them out, but realized that the graham cracker crust for the coconut cream pie didn’t need them. Oh well, I know I’ll use them sometime.

Coconut pie is in the fridge, I’ll whip the cream tomorrow, quiche is prepped, take and bake pizza is in the fridge and potatoes have been mashed for the shepherd pie.

Mom says it is dark and gloomy in Boise and remembered to ask me how my eclipse planning was going which made me very happy. She also remembered why I used a yellow highlighter to put a grid on my window which made me really happy. Her “all there” times are getting fewer and shorter so of course I treasure them even more every time it happens.

I’m beyond annoyed. My sister called. Parkinson BIL is having surgery next week for a broken bone in his leg or knee and could I come down? Of course I said yes. BIL broke this bone in one of his many falls. He fell yesterday trying to get into a rolling desk chair even tho my sister told him not to. He doesn’t fucking listen. He needs to go into a nursing facility. I was hoping to live the rest of my life without going to L.A. again. That’s lower Alabama.

I was thinking I’d like to spend some time in L.A. again. Los Angeles, not Flurda.

I know what you mean. Tried an experiment with a box of 10each 1oz Lays bags to see if I could manage to eat only one a day…well, I can’t, so that experiment is over.

Wet one, won’t call it a happy trip, if you ever pass through N Ali-bama on the way, let me know and I’ll buy breakfast/lunch/dinner (depending when you’re there, not all three!!  ).

red, may the workplace become less of an irk-place once IB is gone.

{{{cat glove}}}, use them when needed, always have a lot more. Best wishes to you and Hubs.

Got a full mile of swimming in without a break, 1800 yards in 58 minutes, so some good exercise. Then went over to the soccer fields and watched the littles practice and made the acquaintance of a couple of canines, then home to Cheeseburgers. Tonight will be reading and internetting, and tomorrow the HVAC folks come to do some work and raid my bank account, so will be up and at them early.

Have a good evening/morning all.

We could totally do that because I would leave 2 bags on the counter and take the rest of them to the library food shelf!!!

I just love that the libraries are doing that now. The library people tell me that very little of the fresh produce sits on the shelf long enough to go bad and the packaged stuff also moves pretty quickly.

That’s a lot of back strokes, good on you!

GG is almost three years old. When he was a little jerkface he seemed to get bigger on a daily basis. He could also hide under the dresser and leap out and pounce VBC. He’s still growing now, but slowly, he’s pretty much reached his full size. One would think that GG would be used to being about the size he is now. One would be wrong.

I watched him struggle to wedge his head under the dresser again and had to stop him when he started tipping it against the wall. Hubs says I should stop saving him and that he will learn, but despite VBC’s helpful efforts the big jerkface still thinks he can get under the dresser and leap out to pounce VBC.

Terrific!

I am done working for the evening. I’ve gotten to the point where my absent brain is making up new words as I type. MusicMan should be home in a little while. I hope he had a good day.

Envious. When I lived in L.A., my apartment building had a small pool. I don’t remember the dimensions, but ISTR a mile was 200 lengths. I’d swim that in 45 minutes frequently. There are things I miss about L.A. …

A belated Happy Birthday RealFish Hope you sleep great on the new mattress.

oh heck Pilot, when I read your first post of the week this morning, that you were bunking at a buddy’s domicile, I was hoping you were just on a visit but I had a bit of an uncomfortable feeling. Now reading your post #37, I see my uncomfortable feeling was warranted. I’m so sorry.

I was glad I read some posts this morning because the fact that tomorrow is 3/14 totally escaped me. I called the local bakery that we like and asked to order Hubs’ fav lemon meringue. They said it would be available Friday. So, I thanked them and hung up. Hubs called a while later and asked if any pecan pies were available or if he could order one. They said they don’t make pecan pies anymore. So, after dinner I went to Kroger to get a weekly circular and was able to buy a pecan pie there; won’t be as good as a bakery pie but we’ll make do.

??

I feel 'ya. Actually I can feel my head which is down to being just a teeny sore 6 weeks later. You may recall that I had to deep clean the house. Well I procrastinated a bit then when I was working on the room that Hubs would be in, I was trying to work very quickly and in my haste, my feet got tangled up in the vacuum cord and I fell against the wall extremely hard. I feel very lucky that I didn’t end up with a TBI.
Hope that your head recovers quicker than mine.

Douglas Adam’s birthday. He wrote the Hitchhiker’s guide to the Universe (and many other very entertaining books) where he pontificated on the importance of always knowing where your survival towel is.

One very entertaining 5/25 morning I encountered much unexpected traffic on my way to work. The reason for the slowdown? A very well built young man was hitchhiking while wearing a towel and a big smile. (One of the male irkers reported that the young man was wearing shoes, but I didn’t notice that because I was too focused on his smile!)

Dang about your local bakery not having pies for you. I’m hoping that is because Pi day is so popular and not because they just forgot about our fav day.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

The same age as Spot, but GG is bigger(unless Spot sees a dingo, then he can floof up to GG size)

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 13c/55f and cloudy. Weather app says “The weather is fucking boring. Let’s talk about the fucking amazing gerbil circus I’m creating.” OK, sounds good to me!

Mooom my mum was the same, when I cleared her wardrobes out there were things in there with the tags still on. She admitted at times that she bought clothes she didn’t need because she had the money to do it, and growing up she’d never been in that position.

Cat Glove good to see you back again, and glad to hear you come with good news. Being a carer is very demanding, both mentally and physically. Take some time for yourself too, just a short break away from everything else so you can deal with your own feelings.

I have read, but not retained much, just one of those mornings! I have a sore eye, not sure whether it’s a scratch or the start of an ulcer. It’s red and watery, sore and sensitive to light. Could go either way! Anyway, I shall betake myself to the walk-in eye clinic later today and see what they say. I have a history of ulcerative kertatitis, I’ve been to the eye clinic with the same thing so many times that I have been told to bypass my GP and go straight to them instead.
