(Old) Missing an hour in the MMP

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 13c/56f and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s a good day to be someone’s fucking sunshine, because that stupid fucking ball of fire in the sky is hiding.” That’s about right, it’s definitely not sunny out there.

Happy birthday, Dicey - hope you have a great day!

Cherry likes to look out of the catflap and would probably be keen to go out, Shadow doesn’t bother unless I hold the catflap open for him until he makes a decision, and Blossom would run away from everything. Besides, food and treats are indoors and that’s a big attraction for them.

Sorry to hear you have an asshat or three three - but glad to hear the lump was nothing serious. Some people really need to get a clue by four, don’t they?

More good news! The doc sounds like she comes from the same place Wordy’s asshat manager did. I’m sure there must be other kinds of support that are less cumbersome than a full brace too. Hopefully your PT will accept your explanation about the bone bruise and will tailor your session accordingly.

Ouchie! Hope it doesn’t bruise too badly and goes down again quickly.

Yay for voting! Did you get a sticker? And burly butcher bacon?

Nothing exciting in my day really, I have one meeting this afternoon but it’s with a couple of colleagues so nothing dramatic. Got the last bits and pieces of the staff development paperwork to do this week so I can devote a day to each person. It’s pub night tonight so I’ll be out with friends later, that’ll be something to look forward to!

My sisters are paranoid about hawks near where they live. They’re convinced one will swoop down and abscond with the family Shih-Tzu and they even seem to think that 20# of Higgs is in danger. I don’t think I want to see the hawk that could make off with our pug. And, frankly, the hawks I’ve seen in their area would be hard pressed to fly off with a squirrel, much less a dog or cat.

It appears that medicinal tweaks and regular meals have had an effect on MIL. By dropping her BP meds and one other with the side effect of low BP, she actually registered 120/80 yesterday, where as last week, we saw 88/53. Methinks part of the problem was with doctors who didn’t pay enough attention to all of her meds before adding more.

Plus, with us dispensing her meds, she no longer drops pills without seeing them, so she get the proper dosages on schedule (thanks, Alexa reminders!) And she’s also eating real food - no more subsisting on cheese and crackers or croutons. (OMG - her favorite snack is some croutons she got at Costco when she was in Indiana. CROUTONS??? Must be dementia…)

Anyway, things are looking better on that front. The next worry will be looked at tomorrow - she’s seeing a dermatologist about her right cheek. She’d had a skin cancer on her face and she thinks this might be another. Always something.

Today, I’ll be taking her to see BIL, and she’ll visit there while I finish packing everything in her apartment that can be boxed. Daughter and SIL will move the furniture on Moanday. Then Daughter will clean the place before the walk-thru n the 28th. And that should be that. Well, except for figuring out what to do with all the extra stuff here…

I have lost a dozen dish towels that I bought for the boat. I couldn’t find them aboard yesterday, and I looked everywhere I could think of when we got home. But this morning after letting Higgs out, I saw a box in a plastic bag on a top shelf - it might be in there. I’ll have to check later.

I’m hoping after we get back from the apartment, I can get an hour or two of rakeage done. It’s supposed to be a glorious afternoon. Next week, we go back to cold and ugh, but today and tomorrow will be loverly!

And so it goes. Happy Wednesday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 43 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 75 and N.O.S. for the day. We shall procure provisions this mornin’ and tonight is soup ‘n sammich and book study over to the church house. We shall try to squeeze in sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’ as one must stick to one’s usual routine as much as possible.

BooFae I did get my peachy “I’m A Jawja Voter” sticker. I like gettin’ my peachy sticker.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then alas and bother, I must purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Oh woe.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Good morning.

It’s 38 degrees Fahrenheit and mostly cloudy at the moment. Clouds will remain with us all day, and our high temperature will be around 52 degrees Fahrenheit. We might see 70 degrees Fahrenheit by Saturday. I’m tempted to start working in the yard, but the chances of frost are still too high to plant anything. Also, there is no point in planting anything since the dogs would probably destroy anything I put in the back. Maybe I’ll work in the front instead.

Happy Birthday, Dicey!

Fortunately, our pups are too big to be carried off by a raptor now. We have had a very active hawk around my yard this year, but I’ve never seen an owl.

I’m glad things are improving for your MiL, FCM. I can’t say I’ve ever thought of croutons as a snack. On the other hand, if you don’t have “regular” crunchy munchies, I can see where croutons might compensate. Maybe…

wordy, I’m sorry about the asshat at work. People can be such jerks, so I prefer my dogs’ company. I’m glad the testing didn’t show anything.

Oopsie, I’m happy that your thumb isn’t severely injured. I hope it starts healing soon.

Ouch on the head bump**, FCM!** That looked rather painful.

Work was filled with a multitude of task interruptions and issues that ran the gamut from pulling together folks for a meeting to discuss the impending loss of desktop/Jabber phone service and the crappy replacement options to snarky, stupid emails from GSA about their POS Sonatas that are in the shop because they are DEAD, DEAD, DEAD. I had another 13-hour day, and today will probably be closer to 14 hours.

I was on a Teams call while carrying on three other Teams messaging conversations and responding to several emails simultaneously. This is my day regularly. The long days come from turning off availability in Teams and trying to finish a work product. I managed to knock out about three products last night. But I still have to deal with a budget update for the admin budget and the records management project. There’s also a host of other tasks. I’ll get to them when I get to them, I guess.

On the homefront, the pest control people are coming for their quarterly inspection today. I hope nothing is found, but we keep traps and bait stations out to keep the pests at bay. Other than the initial finds in 2023, we haven’t had any more problems, but I keep up the service because of the bird feeding station, and a sense of paranoia about more being present.

Alrighty, I’m overdue for more coffee.

Good Morning!

I am awake, or so I think I am. FCM don’t forget your crash helmet! Just as I typed that it switched from ‘crash’ to ‘crazy.’ YMMV

I haven’t much more to say right now. Just getting ready to eat breakfast. See y’all later!

Probably appropriate in this case…

I found the missing towels, so yay! MIL is up and getting dressed. We’ll leave in an hour or so.

I feel your pain with the Blazers. We suffered through 12 years of mostly inept management there. At least MN (where we now live) has a shot at the playoffs this year.

Alaska Airlines used to put a card on your meal tray with religious quotes on them. I always tore them in half and sent them back. Childish, I know, but keep your bullshit to yourselves, okay?

Mornin’ all. A bit after 9am. I’m just up after almost 10 hours sleep. Last few days must’ve been short on sleep and / or more effortful than I realized. Glorious clear sunny day out. NWS says 62/17 on the way to 82/28.

Need to shevel, pack up, check out, and find breakfast. Considering going to the Orlando Auto Museum on the way out of town.

Seems like today will be a lazy day for me; I’m filled with that enervating can’t-get-warm enough feeling. Yesterday was not a great experience foodwise and I’m probably low on calories.

Good to hear @Misnomer’s thumb is in better shape condition than feared.

As to FCM’s head bump, Ouch!

IME hats make me hit my head far more often than any protection they might provide. The brim blocks all the peripheral vision that warns me I’m about to whack something.

As to MIL, it’s amazing what regularly eating enough quality food and correct dose management on meds will do for an elder. Who knew this could be so difficult? But it sure can be.

I read everything. Cheers to all and good luck!

croutons are a marvelous snack. small bowl of croutons, small bowl of blue cheese salad dressing, dip, crunch, crunch, crunch.

Morning all. The morning internetting is pretty much completed (except for the dope) and the first apple of the day has been consumed, so things are looking good. 55F but heading for 72F later, and might get to 80F tomorrow, so a couple nice days before a rainy Firday and cooler temperatures next week. Swimming and soccer today, but not much else on the agenda, we’ll see how it goes.

I have croutons for my salad, but haven’t tried snacking on them, but to each their own.

Pilot, you’ve been pretty active these last few weeks, so a long sleep is to be expected. Enjoy the drive back.

Sari, glad son is back working, how are the driving lessons coming?

Don’t have dogs or cats and the raptors in suburbia N. Ali-bama are not huge, so never been a worry for me. Neighbors dogs are all in the 50-80 lb. range, so not likely to be carried off.

FCM, good news about MIL, I doubt it will make a lot of difference in the long run, but nice to know that she won’t be living in misery. And congrats on finding the dish towels. Now if you could locate my spare glasses…

Taters, doing half-a-dozen jobs at the same time is commendable, but it also is likely to burn you out; take care of yourself, y’hear? Hope no pests are found (outside of those at work).

OK, need to review the rest of the SDMB, so take care all.

Actually it all works out pretty well for me. I’m new to Portland and I have no loyalties to the local team. I’m from New England so I’m a de facto Celtics fan anyway. That’s why I chose that game to attend. Gotta admit, I didn’t even know the name of a single player on the Blazers team until I got there.

For some reason this made me laugh more than a soggy Buddy.

Bending down is bad for one’s health. Hubby got a goose egg on Tuesday due to bending down while squeegeeing the shower. Hope yours is mostly gone by now.

I can be patient. Sometimes.

Spot’s not that stupid. Inside is warm and has food. Outside is the bad place where there’s cold water coming out of the sky.

Medication’s only useful if it gets taken as (correctly) prescribed. Hope she’s able to stabilize a bit. I’ve had croutons from Costco - they are a worthy snack food.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. Today’s weather is cold and wet, so we went to the garden store and bought 3 raspberry bushes, 2 blueberry bushes, some flowers, seeds and soil amendment for berry plants. We’ll plant everything on Saturday, when the ground should be a bit dried out and the weather’s warmer. Otherwise just a lazy day at home. Weather-wise, tomorrow would have been a better day to take off.

Happy Wednesday!

So I was clerking till the one lady showed up, then back to the loft for dumping. I feel like the EMH from Star Trek Voyager. But got hours, due to a late air.

I like snacking on croutons. It’s like mini garlic bread cubes.

 :birthday: :champagne: HAPPY BIRTHDAY DICEY!!! :champagne::birthday:

well, I know I said I’d be gone for at least 3 weeks, now it’s turned into 2 months and a week and I really don’t have much time to read/post today. I’ve missed you all something fierce!!! Glad to see most of the regulars posting and I’ve only made it up to post 30 of 94, also notice a few new folks. Welcome

A stem cell transplant really is a very major thing. It was very touch & go for awhile, particularly the 4 or 5 days when Hubs could not swallow at all, not even his saliva. He was in the hospital for 36 days then had to go to the clinic twice a week after that. Well after one week of being out, after his blood was checked on the second visit to the clinic, they said he had to go back into the hospital due to a very poor result on something related to his kidneys. When the doc and the PA left the room, Hubs cried. I kept it together until I went to the hospital convenience store to get us something to eat and I put my face against the wall and cried. So, he was back in the hospital for a week. He’s been home now for 3 weeks and is slowly progressing. But I tell you, being the 24/7 caretaker requires a lot of energy and patience. Thank goodness our daughter has been here about half the time. One thing that I have to do that definitely has not been in my skill set is administering an infusion. I still have to look at the booklet to be sure I’m doing the step by step properly.

When I used to teach/lead Water Exercise, I would occasionally run into some of the participants at various stores. Would get weird looks from other shoppers when the participants would say something like “you look different with clothes on”

hope you enjoyed the game. A Spartan alum, Xavier Tillman, was recently traded from the Memphis Grizzlies to the Celtics. Did you notice him?

Ass habberdashery continues today. Oh, well - I’m calmer which is nice. I went out last night with some girlfriends to see a show at a local theater. It was really good. It was Golden Girls, and it was absolutely delightful. Also, I found out the hard way I had accidentally brought with me a meat thermometer into the theater. I have an unfortunate habit when I’m at my mom’s condo of grabbing small items I’ve forgotten to stick in a box and throwing them in my purse. This includes anything including small juice glasses and apparently meat thermometers. Fortunately, I got to keep said meat thermometer after explaining to the security guard that I wasn’t planning on using it there.

FCM, I hope the goose egg fades quickly, and I can attest that croutons are a delicious lunch, if not super satisfying.

I’m glad there’s no break Misnomer - but those hematomas can take months to heal. They look really crooked in the meantime.

All this talk of croutons has me hungry. I was so mad this morning I went for a rage waddle; I’m debating over whether to just wait to shower until this evening (assuming I don’t need to be on camera) so I can do it again.

Yeah. Hugs to all as you both work through the ordeal.

I never got to care-give through that particular medical mess, but I’ve done some stuff sorta in that direction of sorta similar duration. My heart goes out to you both. I wish you strength for the marathon you’re running.

The only holdover from our time there is Anferny Simons. He was an up-and-comer under Damian Lillard’s tutelage, but nowadays he just seems lackluster. I’m sure he just wants the hell out of there, and I can’t blame him. We switched loyalties without a backward glance. I was a big Celtics fan back in the Bird days.

Made it to exercise this morning, though it was a slog to get through. Then attended to my neglected library duties and shelved some books.

:joy:

Oh dear. I heard that show was coming here at some point. I’m glad the show was good and that you were ready and able to test any suspect pork chops that walked in!

I am currently sitting here next to MusicMan. I’m eating pizza and his pizza is getting cold in the kitchen. In about 1 1/2 hours, he’ll head off to work and I’ll go take a nap because while I’m so glad that he’s home all the time now, I am totally not used to sleeping in bed with another person. I mean, we’ve been together for 10 or so years and for all of those, I would see him in person about 4-5 per month. Needless to say, I’m still adjusting. :woman_shrugging:t2:

Maybe. I didn’t catch the name but there was a big guy that came in for garbage minutes that I’d never seen before. Could’ve been him.

It’s not making a lot of difference in the short run either. She had a good day yesterday, and decided she’s “cured” or whatever. Then today she’s discouraged because she’s so tired. I think she just can’t accept that she’s 92 with a bad ticker. She’s napping right now.

Just about gone - it’s slightly sore if I press on it, but no permanent brain damage as far as you know.

Even when there are 2 being caretakers, it’s a challenge. Please be sure to get some help so you can have some time to yourself. Hugs!!

I spent about 2 hours at the apartment, and everything that can be boxed has been boxed. I emptied the fridge, brought home some stuff and tossed some. She had a bag of flour with a use-by date in 2015! Honestly, I think she’s lucky she didn’t get food poisoning! I also tossed some mystery bags of frozen stuff - it was freezer-burned beyond recognition and I don’t have room for it anyway. So that was easy.

She’s napping and I just finished lunch. FCD rented a small UHaul on Moanday for the move. There are 2 fewer pieces as BIL has decided he’ll take them. I know Daughter is bummed - she wanted the one cabinet, and I was supposed to get the dresser for my yarn, but no biggie - one less piece to find a home for, and my yarn can live in plastic bins under the craft table.

I’m suddenly whipped - I don’t know if I’ll have the ooomph to rake. We shall see. Later. Much later.
