I am so sorry, Buddy. I know I shouldn’t be laughing, but oh my gosh!!!
Glad the lump wasn’t serious.
Not much going on here. Went to the gym yesterday and did my normal arm and trunk exercises without pain. Today is a different day and my neck/shoulder area is complaining mildy. Probably should get off the computer.

Belated happy birthday, RealFish! I’m glad you got in some good celebrating!
It is soooo nice outside right now: sunny and 70°F! I just let Bailey out back for a few minutes, and opened some windows. There are still some random wind gusts, but nothing like the past two days. It’s going to be even nicer tomorrow and Thursday, but there won’t be any open windows because I won’t be home: I have in-person, all-day work meetings both days. They should be good/useful meetings, and I generally like my co-workers, but I’m a little grumbly that I’ll be stuck in conference rooms on the two nicest days of the year so far. Ah, well.
Good news from yesterday’s urgent care visit: my thumb is neither fractured nor dislocated! The doc said it’s probably a bone bruise. She offered a big giant brace, but I declined because it would have immobilized most of my left hand and I type for a living. Her communication sucked: she walked into the exam room 20 min after the xray with the brace, and went to put it on my hand without saying a single word! No results, possible diagnosis, etc. I only knew there was no fracture because the results had already been sent to my MyChart account and I saw them on my phone; I had to ask in order to get the “bone bruise” guess. She was kind of surprised when I declined the brace, and said “but…it might need to be splinted!” Might?! Anyway, she said if the joint is still swollen/painful in two weeks I should go see an ortho. I’m sure it’ll be fine by then. So that was $50 + 2 hrs of my life that I’ll never get back, but it’s good to know there’s no real damage.
…though now that I think of it, maybe I should have taken the brace and worn it to the gym this week as an excuse to not use dumbbells/kettlebells during my personal training sessions.
Due to the aforementioned work meetings, after today I probably won’t post again until Friday. I don’t “worry” about missing days (or even entire MMPs), but I like interacting with y’all so I usually acknowledge my absence whenever I’m finally able to catch up.
Now I’m seriously considering ordering some of these…
Thanks! I finished two more bags last night, and it’s definitely looking like a car – and recognizeable as a 'Vette – now:
Just two more bags to go…I’ll probably finish it tonight.
Nice!
My maternal cousins live near a ski resort, and there’s a building that’s a mix of owner-occupied condos and short-term rentals. The last time I was up there I AirBnB’d one of the condos vs staying at one of the local B&Bs (which both kind of suck), and it was so nice to have a spacious 1BR – with a balcony and kitchenette – instead of a tiny B&B room and even tinier en suite. And it wasn’t much more expensive. It will be my new go-to whenever I visit.
WE NEED FOR EVERYONE TO KNOW!!!1!1
Metal Mouse, doggio, and JtC aren’t the only ones who laughed at this…
“I’ll tell you where the files are, you …”
Just back from the marina, where I managed to get me a nice goose egg.
I was bending down to see where the ladder was, and I whacked my head on a protruding metal structure. Not one of my gracefuller moments.
But I did find out what I needed to know on the boat and now we’re home so there’s that. MIL is snoozing, poke is sous-vide-ing, and shortly, I’ll cut up assorted veggies for salad. Plus I’ll make rice and use one pack of the brown gravy.
Tomorrow, I’ll take MIL to visit BIL, and while she’s there, I’ll finish packing all non-furniture items. Daughter and SIL will move it all on Moanday. And sometime in the next couple of days, I’m hoping to get some yard time. We shall see.
I had a goals meeting El Jefe this morning. He doesn’t do those, but thought it would be a good idea since he wants to retire. He mentioned those envelopes he passed out after our staph retreat, that showed each of us how much it costs to employ us. Apparently a couple of people approached him and told him the letters were insulting or something. He didn’t mean anything by them; he just thought it was interesting.
I hate ‘goals’. I think they’re corporate BS. We didn’t come up with any numbers or anything. Just that:
- I want to learn more about our products, since I work on the front-end and would like to see what comes out the other end. I don’t want to be a sales rep, but I’d like to know how all of my data is being used. As it happens, I have a Teams meeting with one of the sales reps to go over one product already scheduled. I’ve asked for training on all of our products.
- I mentioned I’ve often wanted to drop in on our members just to say hello. El Jefe thought that’s a good idea, since I’m half a state away from our office and farther than that from our sales rep. Might be able to use relationships to reach out to other companies. El Jefe said that the sales rep can come up north and we could go out together, too.
- Some of our members attend industry group meetings. I said I’d like to sit in on some to see what they talk about. El Jefe said I could do a presentation on why data contribution (i.e., sending their monthly commercial accounts receivable for loading into BMNCRA and our own databases) helps them help themselves and other members of their industry to make better credit decisions. I emailed El Jefe my ‘cold call’ letter enumerating the benefits, and asked him to have our motivational/promo person jazz it up a bit.
I haven’t actually done much in the way of data today.
ETA: I also brought up my PTO. I’m taking one day a month off this year to use up the leftover PTO from last year. The problem is that I seem to get five weeks of PTO now (four weeks vacation, and one week sick leave). How the heck am I going to use all of that? El Jefe said he’ll look into it, and possibly give me cash for some portion of it.
Howdy Y’all! Laundry got done and put away where it stays until it gets dirty again. We also et an early sup. Also, we did leave da cave for all of almost thirty minutes this mornin’. Today is primary election day in Jawja, so we went and voted. The only reason we were gone for half an hour is because we stopped at the burly butcher sto’ to get some ice cream.
Read most, retained little, so rosie’s sig.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Up from naptime. Spot is complaining about the dry, flavorless bits. I am ignoring him, having a Manhattan, and watching hockey.
I wish, but I’ve never had to stab a snitch with a lovely and decorative shiv I made out of a toothbrush.
“I gave the files to Helen Waite. If you want them, go to Helen Waite”
And I think your manager used to be my DM(got chewed out for being 10 minutes late to a meeting due to being in a car wreck)
Ouch, feel better.
I did that at work once. Ironically, I hit my head on the rubber safety bumper on a fan.
DO IT!
But glad the thumb isn’t wrecked, just the doc’s bedside manner.
And a good evening to all. Some calories got pedaled away and some added via Mac-n-Cheese, went to help with 8U soccer but nobody showed up (apparently the word had not been put out yet) so outside of some walking no more exercise, and it’s down to 65F now so I’ll be around the house for the rest of the evening. Got the Sunday NY Times read (usually takes me to Wednesday) and will try to finish the Monday edition later tonight. Also need to get a message out to the 10U Girls parents about practice and stuff later this week.
FCM, Ouch!! Hope no headaches occur due to that. And that’s a neat use of a shoe (not our shoe). And yeah, that is not a good sign for MIL remembering to use the walker for the bathroom.
Cookie, not a Yoplait eater, but I remember (IIRC) that In-and-Out Burgers put Bible verses on their cups (not the verse, just where to look in the book), I’m there to eat, I’ll bring my own reading matter, thank you.
J-Bats, last NBA game I was at featured Kareem Abdul-Jabber and Nate Thurmond, so it’s been awhile.
talkie, one science-fiction writer I read said there are only two basic types of humans: basically decent ones and SOB’s. Glad the lump was nothing much and enjoy the trip.
Oopsie, glad you didn’t have a break, and boo! on the Doc for making assumptions she shouldn’t have and Yea! for you for standing up for yourself. Corvette looks like it was left alone in a bad part of town…
Flyboy, sounds like you had a very productive meeting; now make sure that they follow-through.
Well, that note to the parents won’t write itself (not an AI professional), so need to get that done and finish the rest of the reading and internetting for the night. Take care all.
Individually wrapped Dove branded chocolate products, whether the little bite sized nuggets or the big ice cream bars, all come with vaguely profound inspirational and above all up-beat sayings printed inside the wrapper. Spare me.
Hi all, almost bedtime here. Today was long, but fun. Learned a lot, we flew for about 90 minutes, maybe 2 hours, and I learned all about both how a soaring competition is run, and about flying sailplanes. Later we went out for Japanese dinner. My Doper friend is a true gentlemen. Like big boating, this is a sport for the well-heeled. We had about 60 gliders participating today in near perfect flying conditions. I definitely got lucky in how all this worked out today.
I have read everything else in the thread in dribs and drabs on my phone all day. Not real practical to comment piecemeal then or now, so yaays, boos, and get well soon!s as appropriate.
We’ll try again tomorrow. Sleep well.
Happy Toosday!
Chilly morning at the park. It was 44 degrees but still a bit breezy. We usually leave at 8, but I was too cold so we left a little early. Just as well, poor Petey was shivering in his sweater. Later today it was near 70, so a beautiful day.
It’s dark again in the mornings when we go to the park, so the lights in the milking barn are on.
My son went back to irk today, and it was daylight when I took him.
Everything is so nice and green.
Poor poor Buddy.
I’m tired. I wanted to go to bed by 9 and now it’s almost 10.
Sunday Mrs. L.A. saw a bald eagle catch something in the back yard, which is unusual because of all of the trees. (A bald eagle did land on a low branch once, on a tree we used to have, to eat a fish.) We were worried because they neighbours across the creek let their sweet kitties roam, and sometimes they come to the back of our yard. Mrs. L.A. thought the eagle may have caught a squirrel, but we were worried. This afternoon while I was driving home, she texted that she saw all three of the neighbours’ cats. Thank Bastet!
Indeed! Raptors take more cats than people realize. There is a neighborhood hawk that likes to snack on doves at our bird feeders and I worry about the across the street cats hanging out in our yard. I think cats are too heavy for the local hawks to carry away, but the kittah would probably still end up dead or badly damaged.
Our baby trees are showing green and the weeds are thriving. I’m really concerned about a late freeze, plants aren’t happy when the seasons don’t cooperate with their growing cycles.
The stoopid time change usually messes with people for at least a week. I hope you adjust soon.
OUCH!!!
May I suggest getting into the habit of always wearing a hat outdoors? Hat brims have saved me from so many bumps and if I ignore the proximity alert, the crown helps save my skin.
So, that’s enough coherent typing. BFF and hubby were over tonight and much pot has been smoked. Beer and mead have been enjoyed and BFF defeated us at several board games. VBC was outraged when BFF and I went into her room so I could show BFF my new threads. GG got pouty when he was pretty much ignored while playing the above mentioned board games so annoyed VBC into chasing him off her bed.
Here’s what someone posted on Nextdoor.
I saw a cat killed on Friday! It’s a terrible way for an animal to die! The screaming was intense
Please keep your cats and little dogs in
Never just let them go outside alone !
It takes a minute and they are gone
A year ago on Father’s Day a Scottie dog was taken from the family yard having a barbecue and was dropped into the ocean! Traumatic for everyone : especially the children
My own cat about 5 years ago was sunbathing on the picnic table and was snatched
No more cats for me living here after that
Just watch your pets!
I didn’t mention it to Cat Mom, because it’s too much.
That is very sad
Many people forget about owls, which also think that cats and small dogs are pretty tasty.
However, like us, you guys built a catio to keep your furry overlords safe despite themselves
Last week, I called Mom and told her that I was bored and needed something to do. Today I got a box full of kits. Most of them are super complicated metallic pieces - very fun to work, but not good to travel with - and one smaller bit titled “Spring in D.C.” that just calls to me. The piece I’m working now is small and simple enough to take to Dallas so I think I’m going to just start the D.C. piece and spend the night in a stitching trance. I’m retired, I can stay up all night if I want to.
I think I mentioned a year or two ago that I saw an owl take a squirrel from a tree in the back yard. It was impressive.
I wouldn’t be upset if more owls came and took the squirrels that are invading my house. My attic is full of walnuts from the furry little bastards.
My inlaws were never able to keep cats because sooner or later, they’d slip outside and there were just too many raptors and owls in their area. Some of the neighbors had “barn cats,” but they were far too soft-hearted to deal with the loss of even semi-feral cats. Their big dogs could keep coyotes away, but there was nothing they could do about birds.
One of our cats got badly injured while playing in our yard which is why we built our first catio. They weren’t a thing 30 years ago so I like to think that we were trend setters!
I wanted to get some yard chickens and geese but hubs was terrorized by his grandmother’s geese once (kick one goose and all of them start pecking) and a dear friend reminded me that everyone wants a chicken dinner and my birds would constantly be under attack. Yeah, no chickens for me.
I’ve got my colors sorted and you guys are going to be amazed at this new piece. Next year.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Spot has shown no interest in being outdoors(To be fair the liver treats and couch are indoors, so why leave?)
