(Old) Missing an hour in the MMP

Hubs has a towel in his car. He doesn’t know why he has a towel, he just knows that it makes me happy to see his towel and that I often remember my floozy days when I’m happy. Positive reinforcement isn’t just for cats!

Happy Moonday!

Happy Birthday Fishy!

No park this morning. Nobody else was going but it was 36 feels like 25 outside and I didn’t want to go anyway.

I managed to pull an all nighter last night.
I didn’t have to get up to pee, and didn’t wake up at 330 in pain.

My son goes back to irk tomorrow and I am not looking forward to that.
Life is easier when he is here to do the cooking.

I’m happy I don’t have to use my walker in the house. I think I really don’t need it at all, except for when I do, and then I’m glad to have it.
Every now and then the world takes a spin around me and I’m afraid of falling. The walker might be a pita, but it’s more of a pita to fall.
If I’m in the house there is always something to grab for balance or I can sit down.

Niner, when I was a pet sitter I watched several diabetic cats. One lived to be 19 and the other 20. They were quite healthy up until the end.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Before I napped, I was having earwax time with Spot. Weird: your cat stops and stares at the wall. Worse: he starts moving his jaw like he’s having a conversation:
< unperceptible eldritch noise >
Spot: < looks at wall >
< unperceptible eldritch noise >
Spot: “You’re taking him now?”
< unperceptible eldritch noise >
Spot: “But I was somewhat fond of this one. Bother.”
< unperceptible eldritch noise >
Spot: “Fine. Can you fill my bowl, and open the front door after you consume him, so I do not starve?”
< unperceptible eldritch noise >
Spot: “Thanks, give my regard to That Which Spawned You.”

When DH got out of the bathtub, he apparently neglected to drain the tub. How did we find this out?

When we heard a commotion from that bathroom, then an extremely soggy Buddy came tearing out into the living room and did several very drippy wet laps before I was able to catch him and apply a towel. He was sufficiently freaked that he wasn’t cooperating with getting fully dried, but I got the worst of it. No apparent harm was done to him, I haven’t yet investigated bathroom damage. He’s now grooming himself and sulking.

Hey, doofus, you were the one who stayed in the bathroom that long after the human left, then managed to fall into the tub!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 8c/46f with a predicted high of 12c/54f and rain showers. Weather app wishes to provide fashion advice today - “Hope your not fucking wearing suede. It’s going to get fucked up in the rain if you fucking are.” No, I am not wearing suede, I don’t think I possess anything with any suede on it.

I can confirm that it’s raining though, I had to go outside earlier and haul the biiiiiig rubbish bin out to the kerb for today’s collection. I also went out and picked up the dozen empty beer cans from the back, those have been relocated to the idiot neighbour’s front garden because he really ought to dispose of his own rubbish. I suspect it’s the boy in the house, throwing them out of his bedroom window. Well, he can have them all back and deal with them himself.

Happy birthday, Real Fish

Niner sorry to hear about Junior, but good to know that he’s getting good treatment and you’re an expert at getting those needles in!

Oopsie getting an x-ray sounds like a good idea, even if there’s little they can do for the joint, it would be reassuring to know how much damage has been done.

Moooom well done on packing the kitchen stuff, sounds like there is a lot of dried stuff to go around after the pantry clear out too!

JtC I am looking forward to retirement in the hope of having time to do various things, although I know I will end up a couch potato and just be too lazy to get up and actually do them!

Seanette I am sorry you didn’t get a video of Buddy, that would have been funny.

Not a lot going on here, I am working from home and very glad not to be out in the rain today. I do have grocery shopping to look forward to later, but apart from that, all my tasks are indoors. The bin’s out ready for collection, the cats are fed and medicated, everyone else is snoozing apart from me. I’ve got irk and then when I log off, I need to prepare campus food for a couple of days. After Friday, I won’t be on campus again until 10th April. Woohoo!

OK, that’s just beyond weird! I mostly ignore them anyway, since our elevations is around 200’ASL - if it floods this high, we’ll see critters lined up two by two… Tho the warnings do make me think twice about driving down certain roads nearby.

From your mouth to MIL’s ears!! To be fair, tho, she does use the walker. What she doesn’t do is make sure one of us is nearby just in case she crumbles. You, obviously, know how to do it right, tho it sux mightily that you’re in that situation.

This morning, I’ll be taking the playhouse to Tobias’ school, freeing up a few more square feet of basement area ahead of the furniture relocation. And since Aldi is just across the road, I can run in there for a few items before returning home to find homes for my newly-acquired kitchen stuff.

I heard MIL on the phone with her sister last night - she might be giving her the dishes, tho I can’t imagine why. AuntB can possibly need them, tho maybe she’s thinking for one of her grands? I dunno. I’m just the storage manager.

MIL is going to start unpacking her clothes today - I sure hope she gets rid of a lot of them. We’re also planning to run to the boatyard today so I can have a look at what’s in the galley - I don’t remember what, if any, cookware I took aboard. That will determine what, if any, cookware I keep from MIL’s stash. So random chores in store. Plus I need to figure out something for supper. Maybe poke chops?

Speaking of cooking - among the contents of MIL’s pantry, I found THIRTEEN packets of brown gravy mix. I think every time she was in a grocery store, she bought a pack or two. Guess I need to plan some meals around brown gravy. Salisbury steak, anyone?

I should talk - when I cleaned and organized my spice cabinet, I came across FOUR cartons of salt. You know how it goes - you’re in the store and you think “I don’t want to run out of salt - I’ll just grab one…” So I’m good for salt for a while. And mayo, too, for the same reason. But my spices are organized and I managed to dump some with a use-by date in 2007. Don’t remember what it was, but obviously not something I used much of ever. Oh, and I had 4 paprikas, because see above reason.

Apparently, I’m losing it, too.

Happy Tuesday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 37 (BRRR!) Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 73 and N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is laundry. I can hardly contain myself. Other than that the usual sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’ shall be accomplished. Sup shall be leftovers from last night’s sup. I shall take advantage of a day in da cave as the next four days will involve havin’ to people.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Mornin’ all.

It’s 46F and lightly raining. The expected high temperature is 47F and it’ll rain off and on throughout the morning and afternoon, gradually giving way to cloudy skies and less moisture.

I am TAHRED. Yesterday was an in-office day, and as predicted, I got nothing done that I wanted to get done. Although I left my office at the usual time, I logged back on and worked a few more hours from home. My husband felt especially tired, so he went to bed early, and I fell asleep on the couch. I should have gone upstairs when I let the dogs out to potty at 11:00 p.m., but I was so tired, and it just seemed like so much effort. Which was stupid because my night was restless and not particularly comfortable.

Anyway, I work from home today, so that’s good. I’ll be sure to keep my camera off for meetings.

I am trying to get as much done as possible this week since I’ll be taking Monday and Tuesday off next week.

FCM, I hope MiL culls some of her clothing before you have to take it all over to your place.

During COVID, I emptied my pantry and spice cabinets and cleaned everything out. I kept both pretty well organized until the last few months. Hubby doesn’t put stuff back in any order, and I’ve given up on going behind him and straightening that stuff out. On top of that, whenever my husband goes grocery shopping, he comes home with new spices or dried herbs, and now the spice cabinet is overflowing. I will have to give in and clean out that cabinet because it’s driving me crazy.

I know there is much more to address, but I only skimmed today, and the pups are calling again.

Sending my best to all of you.

FCM you have my permission to dispose of all the brown gravy packets. And extra salt cartons.

Morning all. A bit stiff and sore today, might have done a bit more swimming than I’m used to so may go back to just doing a mile. Fast has been broken and need to do some soccer stuff (on-line paperwork) shortly, but outside of gym and more soccer (the 8U girls, which I agreed to coach, have a general, everybody can come, practice tonight) it should be a fairly slothful day. Should, according to the weather wizards, get to 70F today but it is only 47F now so we’ll see.

Real Fish, nice little cuddly toy for the bed. Hubby may be jealous…

Pilot, that’s quite a place and a steal at the price you compared it to. Enjoy gliding.

In the towel department, I don’t carry one everywhere, but I always take two towels to tht gym, because, well, you never know…

Sari, sounds like you have what many people lack; common sense in taking care of yourself. Stay warm.

Nettie I had to laugh at your story, I imagine it wasn’t funny while it was happening, but maybe (maybe) Buddy will learn from it.

boo fae, lovely neighbors you have there. Be glad you are in England, here in the USA such action could get your windows shot out…

FCM, I think we all tend to buy and forget sometimes. I bought some Alfredo sauce in a for some time ago and it still sits in my cupboard, probably past it use by date now but I can’t be bothered to check. (Of course since I have now mentioned it here, I will check it).

Taters, I predict nappage in your future. Have an easy day today.

OK, onward into the morning. Take care and have a good 2sDay all.

The humans were amused, Buddy wasn’t. Not sure how Allie felt.

Too late - it’s all over here. She’s going to go thru 2 big suitcases today - I hope at least half of the garments are to be donated.

We’ll use the gravy… eventually. And I did give some salt to my daughter.

Some years ago, my youngest sister was on a crafty kick - she’d get old high heeled shoes, glue macaroni to them, spray paint them, then make flower arrangements. This is what she presented us for our 25th anniversary:
Imgur
Not the skull - I got that in a White Elephant exchange.

swampy was a proud recipient of a similar shoe, sans the 25 - do you still have it? Terri wanted to know.

Break time over - chores beckon…

Didn’t drag out of bed until nearly 8:00. DST is a PITA. I never noticed before that the single-serving Yoplait cups have little homilies on the peel-off tops, such as “I don’t have to try when I’m with you” and the like. Why does my food think I need its reassurances? It’s not like we’re going to start dating or anything. “Mom. . .Dad. . .this is my friend Yoplait Peach Harvest. She really gets me.”

Looks to be a slow day at Walking Dead Manor, although there is an all-resident meeting this afternoon. Much as I would like to hear about the latest laundry machine saga, we’re still avoiding human contact until we’re sure we’re not going to spread anything. Perhaps I’ll go see if any books need reshelving in the library. Wheee! The fun never stops!

I was briefly clerking on the Smalls computer, but had to go back to dumping. Panamanian Vince was busy pontificating, and Shaggy was going mad with power over being in charge of The Big Red ButtonTM, that nothing was getting done. I did an Aldi run, and hit Total wine for vermouth and Luxardo cherries for tonight’s Manhattan. And a six of ESB, just because.

LOL.

Not me. My pantry is alphabetized, and I checklist before shopping. I only buy multiples of things on good sales, like beer and gin.

FCD MIL’s gravy packets reminded me of my Mom’s taco and chili seasoning packets. When I cleaned out her pantry, there must have been dozens of them. Most were completely solidified. IIRC, the oldest one I found was six years past its expiration date.

Channeling your inner June Cleaver? Or maybe Martha Stewart?

Slightly concerning incident just a bit ago. MIL came walking into the living room sans walker. I commented on it, and she said “I didn’t know where it was.” Except she’d been sitting on it for well over an hour while sorting her clothes. And she came out because she wanted to lie down. She left her bedroom to come lie on the couch…

I know her two older sisters had dementia before they died…

my lager has a bit of a diabetic issue (white cat in pic.). he was diagnosed quite a bit ago. ironically when we were getting him to lose weight so he would not be diabetic.

he went into remission within a year. then he came out of remission in 2020, and finally back into remission last year.

thankfully, my guy is easy as you can do anything to him as long as there is some sort of food.

one thing that really helped to get him the correct dosage of insulin and got him into remission was having a glucose monitor on him. it gave a good long look at what he was going through. much easier that a 12 hour blood test. his ears would take a beating getting poked 12 times (every hour on the hour).

the other thing that helped was finally getting him off kibble, and on to prescription can food. that was a 3 year endeavor as “someone” has a really sensitive tummy even though he is a omnivore. he would get to about half and half and bang! big mess in the litter box.

best of luck with your furry one, i hope you get into remission soon.

I’m in awe of this. The wife tends to impulse buy, especially at Costco. I spend nearly all of our entire time there saying “NO!” or “There’s no room in the freezer for that!” We do create a shopping list, but it often seems more like a suggestion. Shopping alone: about ten minutes. Shopping with the Ms: an hour minimum.

Great game last night (I went to the Blazers v Celtics game solo because my friend and my cousin bailed on me). The Moda center is a pretty nice little complex, though they could use a little variety in their concessions. They have like three different eateries that just repeat around the arena.

Anyway, the Trailblazers are horrible and the Celtics just won their 50th game quicker than any other team (or something along those lines) so the Celtics crushed them by twenty points. There was some cool plays some exciting runs of play and worth the price of the ticket - it just would have been more fun if someone came with me.

It’s beautiful outside today - mid 70sF and sunny. Sadly, that does not prevent people at work from being douchey. I had some account manager rabidly asking me for files when I got to my laptop this morning. When I explained that I’d deal with her issue when I could and she asked why I hadn’t done it yet, I copied her manager and explained, “I’ve been in the hospital this morning, getting an enhanced cancer screen because I found a lump, but I do appreciate your concern.” Either the snark was lost on her or she got it and chose to ignore it, because she came back, “Fine, where are the files.” Her manager responded and apologized on her behalf. So that was fun. (BTW, it turned out not to be serious, but people are still asshats.)

Anyway, getting ready this week to take overlyboy on a spring break trip - I’m looking forward to it. Sadly he did not get into the school he wanted, but we still want to visit the town and go skiing, so it’ll be cool. Plus, not having to work for a week will be nice. Really, really nice.

I hope all you Dopers are doing okay as possible.
