(Old) Mist and Murk in the MMP!

Time to do a Covid/flu home test so you know what you’re dealing with, especially if you have asthma. There are prescription ant-viral treatments for both flu and Covid that can then be considered to make it both less uncomfortable, prevent hospitalization and protect others around you.

My 9 month old grandson has been out of daycare and at home for the past week with Covid with just those symptoms. Tested him when the daycare notified us that another baby in the group had Covid. So far the rest of us have all tested negative. The difference? The five of us, 4 years old to 76 years old, all were vaccinated in the fall, my grandson was too young.

Mrs. L.A. had quick oats for breakfast, and I had an egg/bacon/cheese/Tapatio breakfast burrito. The second pot of coffee is just finishing. The dishwasher is washing dishes.

Can someone make a funny joke juxtaposing ‘dishwasher’ and ‘wish-dasher’?

My wrists dislike using a manual (they also pretty much prohibit use of cast iron cookware), but I do have one in a drawer just in case. We actually have two electric, since DH and I favor different styles. I like the classic that gives a lid I can use to help drain the can contents if needed, DH favors the “cut around the side of the lid” style that IMO is not all that dependable about getting the can open.

Kasya has taken to fussing if she sees me hugging Buddy.

We’ve clawed up to -1F this morning. Not sure if it’s going to get any warmer.

Relatives coming this afternoon. I’m making jambalaya.

I was apparently mistaken about our friend being carted out by EMTs. She is a very small and frail black woman, and there is also a very small and frail black man living here. From a distance and in a moving car, it really looked like the former. But I ran into her in the elevator yesterday and she was fine. Glad for her, sad for him.

The wife used some acrylic paint to write ICE OUT in very large letters on one of the windows yesterday. Hopefully there won’t be any fallout from that from management. I may have mentioned that she was quite the activist in the 60s and is frustrated that marching and such is just not something she can do at 79. A big face full of tear gas or pepper spray could be lethal.

I cracked open the front storm door and hears the sound of teensy tiny pellets of ice falling all around. At least it’s not the kind of freezing rain that coats branches and wires and leads to power outages. Fingers crossed that it stays that way.

Otis continues to go out and in, bringing icy chunks from the yard to the house. I find he’s easier to dry if I sit his butt in front of the pellet stove. His snout and beard turn quickly wet rather than chunky. Unfortunately, he likes to play tug with the towels. I’ll be so glad when he’s past this puppy stage.

I’ll be even gladder when spring arrives. How much longer???

I know the feeling. As much as I love Kasya, I will be very glad when she calms down into her adult stage. I’m sure Buddy agrees with me. He’s coping with having a rowdy child around, but it’s an adjustment for him as much as for the humans.

What a handsome boy!

Shoveled the first 6" of snow from the driveway. At least it wasn’t the wet heavy stuff.

We have a neighbor who snowblows the whole street. I’ll still have to clear off a bit and shovel the walk, but that’s a nice perk of this neighborhood.

Sometime in the next year or two, probably.

Lady SCAdian has been out twice* to sweep the porch and steps, shovel a path to the driveway, and clear away the berm the ploughs have left at the foot of the drive. Took a yardstick with her the second time; we’ve gotten seven inches here so far.

* We both have doubts about my ability to remain standing whilst shoveling.

I cleaned, dusted, and vacuumed. I took out the trash and recycling. There’s a good bit of ice(the less evil kind) on everything. work start has been pushed back to 0900 tomorrow.
“When Life Gives You Lemons, Score Empty Net Goals”

It’s harder than it looks, considering I was using foam rubber pucks, and the ice left a pebbled surface. I guess I should have dragged up a couple of curling rocks instead. I warmed up aith a freshly nuked cup of Earl Grey, hot. < waves at boofae >

< Spot and the Screaming Tuxedo Zoomies have entered the chat >

Better safe than sorry.

Easy to say when you’re not the one picking ice balls out of his coat and off the carpeting!!! :stuck_out_tongue: OK, he does clean up pretty nice.

Our snowplow guy asked if it’s OK if he comes tomorrow - it makes sense to let the ice build up on the base of snow and with luck, the pavement won’t be icy beneath. If nothing else, it’s forecast to be sunny tomorrow, which should, theoretically, help dry the cleared driveway. I’ve seen the county plow go down our street - dare I hope they treated or sanded the street?

Meanwhile, it’s getting dark and the freezing rain should have moved on within the next 4-5 hours according to radar. No precip to speak of for the next week at least. Time to get back to TV and finish the latest blanket.

Not looking forward to fighting the “thing at the end pf the driveway.”. Hopefully my early shoveling will do me well.

Howdy Y’all! :musical_notes:It’s a rainy night in Jawja.:musical_notes: We deheathenated (fairly large crowd for us today), came back to da cave for leftovers lunch and achieved nappage. There was a let up in the rain around three-thirty, so the biiiiig trash can got hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Good thing cause not five minutes later we had a tstorm. That passed quickly but the rain persists. It was warm enough to sit out on the back porch and day drink, which we did durin’ the storm. We enjoyed watchin’ it whilst we quaffed beerverages. We watched a couple more episodes of All Creatures Great and Small as well. We will be sad when we come to the end, but a new season of Bridgerton is about to drop in Netflix so that will ease the sadness. What? We know Bridgerton is inane and all but we enjoy it.

Now it’s time to see whatup on teh intartoobz.

And a late afternoon report. Went right from dinner to the gym, as the rain was supposed to end about 2pm so I figured I’d get my workout in and come home when the rain was done. Turned out that 4pm was a bit early to finish, the rain lasted until 5pm but has now dissipated and we’re heading downward on the thermometer, it’s 29F now and due to reach 16F tonight, so glad my car is in the garage. With all the rain we got I expect the roads will be a bit…tricky…tomorrow, so getting out and about may not be feasible, but we’ll see.

Well, they might send someone to make sure your refrigerator is working…

VanGo, at least you got a nice workout without having to go to the gym. And Pavo, that is a neighbor worth having.

FCM, hope the plowing works out, looking at the weather map you’re getting a lot of cold moisture there.

And need to check on the second tackleball game and maybe add back a few more calories, so take care all.

It’s still below freezing.

I nuked leftover poke roast and veggies for supper and ate too much. Now, I want a nap.

Had to go out on an errand this afternoon. Got in the car and it kept trying to turn over, but no luck. I knew the lack of a plug in -30 weather would be a problem.

Called CAA (second time this month) and they got to me about a half hour later, which is good service during a cold snap. He gave me a boost and told me to run it for 30 to 40 minutes to charge it.

Went for a drive, got a snack at McD’s and got back after 50 minutes of driving around, so should be good tomorrow

Temp has shot up to -21 C, so that should help with the starter tomorrow.

We did get a bit of a storm. There was ice falling this morning, I’ve never seen such a thing before! Then it snowed for a while and then it rained but the temps stayed in the mid 30s. It was a good day to be RDOS.

Tomorrow the roads promise to be very icy and it will be under 10F so we won’t be going to the capital. It’s one thing to get shot in back of the head while protesting fascism, sliding off the road in the ice and freezing to death would be quite another thing.

The birds were very hungry today so I kept spreading seed outside the french doors. The fuzzbutts got very little napping done because every time they got situated, birds would start squabbling and they would have to go and look.

I saw the snowplow going by a couple of times and that guy wasn’t messing around. He was doing the speed limit and the snow got tossed all the way over the fence into our yard. Never saw that before either, LOL!

At one point today I briefly considered sweeping the sidewalk and front steps but sat down until I got over it. We have a door leading to the covered carport so if we absolutely have to go out, we can get to the car without getting our feet wet/muddy.

Will it be a lot of trouble to replace, or is it just not doable now?

Ya probably want to plan on staying in tomorrow. The roads will be messy but the church crowd will be out and in a hurry.

Mom on the phone, I’ll try to come back later. I have been reading all, so hugs and dangs to all that need it.

The last round of sleet/freezing rain has started. It’s all the way up to 24 Ferret Height. I’m having a Wisconsin Old Fashioned with poke loin, sweet N.O.T., and black eyed peas and collards.

We also enjoy it.

Not worried about weather now. Was sitting here and heard gun shots. On my floor. Lots. Very soon police came. Shooting.
I saw a bullet on floor and blood spots.
Shit. Trying to relax.
