(Old) Mist and Murk in the MMP!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall do morning cleaning and afternoon sloth. It is current;y 19 degrees Ferret Height(-7.22 Centipedes), and there is some white stuff on the parking lot. But I have power for the moment, so at least I have coffee for the day.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 7c/44f with a predicted high of 8c/46f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Today’s weather is fucking fine. Tomorrow? It will probably be fucking trash.”

That sounds very pleasant so cancellation of church choir would be welcome!

I hear you! ‘im indoors is a software engineer and has a very odd way of looking at some things, sometimes I just have to mention that little “what if…” and he has one of those lightbulb moments. They are lucky to have us, aren’t they?

I have a manual stab tin opener that’s been referred to as my WW2 tin opener  We also have a more modern version, and now I’ve found there are claw-shaped openers for the ring-pull tops!

What a nuisance, especially the combination of tyre and card problems. I’m glad SM could sort out a loan from petty cash but it’s so annoying that the whole banking system is not set up in your favour. Might be time to think about changing to a local bank instead?

Yesterday was a very busy day, but a productive one for me. I made a roast chicken dinner last night and have enough leftovers for another one today so that means not too much cooking. Other than that, I slothed in the evening and was in bed by midnight.

Awake at 8am today, so I got up and tended to the needs of cats, then had a cup of tea while I ran myself a bath with some muscle therapy bath soak in it because I’m aching from the gym yesterday. Breakfast was sourdough toast with home-made jam, and lunch will most likely be eggs or beans on sourdough toast. Dinner will be yesterday’s leftovers. In between, there will be much slothage.

I saw yesterday’s news and have a tremendously angry sad so I am avoiding news programmes today. Instead, I shall spent my afternoon with The Night Manager instead.

Bah humbug.

You and me both. In fact, I avoid pepperoni entirely when I have the choice. Waaaaaaaaay too greasy. Even putting the slices on a pizza for my sweetie is too greasy.

Most assuredly! But do they appreciate it? Well, maybe…

shoe - regarding your card compromises, is it at all possible that someone is picking up your on-line shopping thru your wifi? Or somehow got into one of your accounts? Maybe time to change some passwords? FWIW, we’re pretty sure our card info was stolen (THREE TIMES!!) at off-brand gas stations. Since we’ve stopped traveling I-95 to Florida, we’ve not had any issues, not that it’s any help to you. Just some brain-blathering here.

Woke to 18 Ferrets and the sound of something solid pattering against the windows. It looks as if we got 2, or maybe 3, inches of snow overnight - quite a drop from the 8-10" one site predicted. It appears we’re out of the snow and into the wintry mix/freezing rain part of the show. No plans to go anywhere, tho. And I don’t think we need to call the plow guy - even my car can get out, there’s so little snow. The severe cold is predicted for late tomorrow - I’ll hold off on the basement fire till then.

I’ll keep the bathtub water and the 3 pitchers in standby just in case an icy accumulation leads to broken wires and power outages, but I kinda doubt it. Sill, better safe… FCD will work in his shop today and I expect to mostly crochet. I have 4 towels standing by for Otis, in case he decides to frolic in the snow/ice/ick. And I suppose it won’t hurt to think about supper in case I need to thaw something. The I’m now thinking about pizza - thanks shoe

Onward! Happy Sunday!

Almost all churches are closed. Not mine ( today valet parking) but the woman who lives nearest me isnt going.
Its 13f and I want to walk to dunkin( 7 minute walk). Theres only 1 inch so far.

3 wrecks in 20min at the start of the storm
Spot is watching the vermin.

< Spot perks up >
But glad you have a little crush to offset the tire and card crap a little bit.

 :open_mouth: :grimacing:

Someone decided he needed to take a drive to see what’s going on. Obviously my opinion on the foolishness of such a venture went unheeded. And if anything happens, I’m not even allowed to vent with I told you so.

How can someone so smart be so idiotic???

Good morning, everyone.

It’s 24F and clear outside. The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies later today, with a high of 42F.

Shoe, I’m sorry about the card and tire problems. It’s great that you have such a supportive boss. Also, I can’t remember how to flirt either. Pepperoni gives me severe heartburn; that guy must have iron guts or a subscription to Tums.

JtC, I understand your feelings completely. I’m pretty heartsick. Be gentle with yourself.

VanGo, we had specific tasks that we had to track our time on an online system, too. I generally had six to seven buckets that supposedly covered my time. I stopped being uber specific and just half estimated how much time I spent at any given task. I jumped around too much (so many interruptions) to stop and enter my time after each task. I’d update my timecard every couple of days.

So, yesterday we went to lunch, where I enjoyed a nice Dunkel, too. It’s about the only time I drink beer. After that, we went to the German deli and obtained a good assortment of cold cuts, cheese, bread, and a couple of treats. When we were almost home, we ran across an anti-ICE demonstration. I showed my support for them by honking and waving.

Tomorrow is our 40th wedding anniversary. I don’t know how the heck that happened. There have been bumpy times, for sure, but here we are. We don’t usually do much, but since it’s sort of a milestone year, we’re going to a fancy restaurant on Tuesday. The restaurant is closed on Mondays, so that’s why we’re going the day after. Anyway, we’re looking forward to it.

My leg is rather sore today, probably from all the walking and standing. So, I’ll take it easy today.

Take care of yourselves, please.

Hello, friends who are here, and to those who are not here. Hello to those who are here, but not all there.

I have a cold, or something like it. Lots of extra nasal congestion, snot, and more breathing difficulty than usual. Part of the baseline is asthma, which is usually controlled by twice-daily use of an Advair inhaler.

VanGo, many electric garage openers have a “manual override.” On mine, it’s a hangy-down handle you can yank, that temporarily disconnects the screw-drive from the link that lifts the door. That allows manual lifting. Check your own unit for a similar thing.

I got that, an old Rolling Stones quote.

Dear nephew and his wife brought us supper last night. It was to-go spaghetti dinners from their church’s spaghetti supper. Mrs. Nott bolstered it with green pepper, onion, and more Italian seasoning before reheating.

Manual lifting of our door is a 2-person job as it’s a double door and very heavy. Our opener has a battery backup, but I don’t think it’s good for many openings. In any event, so far, so good - still powered.

I’ve put down an old sheet by the dining room door where Otis comes in and I’ve been greeting him with a towel. Last time, I had to walk him to the pellet stove to thaw the ice on his snout. He had clumps stuck in his beard and on his feet. And after he was dried and warmed up, he wanted out again. The boy’s not too bright!

I texted our driveway clearing guy. I think the smartest thing will be to wait till tomorrow to clear it, but FCD will give me grief about it. The freezing rain, etc, is supposed to go all night, but we’re promised sun tomorrow, hence my opinion that we should wait. We’ll see what plow guy recommends.

I think my tea is well-steeped and ready for drinking. Ta!

Some people just need to see for themselves…

We are around 3-4 inches so far. It is falling at about an inch an hour. Tiny little industrious flakes. I’m watching the local coverage. The person who is reporting from manayunk has puppers in her live shots. The last puppy was Nemo. Nemo is gorgeous, all black dog with bright blue husky eyes. Just gorgeous. She was enjoying the snow very much.

I have no experience to share with you.

I’ve seen those (though not in the last forty years or more), but never tried using one.

:musical_note:Sloth in the morning, sloth in the evening, sloth at suppertime! :musical_notes:

Sounds entirely reasonable to me. Just give me my hat and a jacket!

Currently 10 Ferrets (-14 Centipedes). We’re still supposed to get 8-14 inches (6-10 today, 2-4 tonight), but it’s just begun in the last two hours or so.

Weather-wise or demonstrations-wise?

The neighbors across the street look like they moved in the elderly mom of one of them, and then trucked in all her accumulated crap. They stuffed the garage with old furniture and old clothes and pictures. Then I saw on nextdoor that they were holding a yard sale the next day, so I went over and had a look. The selling couple looked cranky and tired. That’s where all our stuff will end up, folks: in a yard sale with disinterested people picking it over and offering a buck or two.

No church (they are making cantors and organists come in, but no choir). Wash U has already announced that tomorrow will be “alternate operations” (i.e. virtual) and I have no intention on teaching remotely, so that’s another day off.

Here’s our back patio:

Yeah, mine has one too, but to get to it I need to go through the man door, which has a stuff in front of it problem.

About 2" of snow on the ground now, it’s still the light fluffy stuff, so I swept the back porch.

I’ll share a pizza with you! While I’ve been known to eat thinly (you could read a newspaper through it) sliced on a cracker, I don’t want it anywhere near something that’s to be cooked unless it’s been pre-rendered (Jet’s Pizza does that).

It was right at freezing when I walked Nelson this morning. The rain stopped in the middle of the night, thank goodness. We’re not supposed to get anymore precipitation today or tomorrow.

Last night, my neighbors Kevin and Alex stopped me when I was walking the dog to let me know to contact them if I needed anything. It’s nice to know that should I need someone, they’re just a few feet away.

I think I’ll bake some muffins today to supplement the heat in my apartment.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Weather - well, actually roads. This very red county has no current demonstrations.

This is what an idiot dog looks like between forays into the snow.
Imgur
There are wet spots all over the carpeting from bits of ice that fall off his coat. He’s outside again, and I’ve already pulled out the second towel, as the first one is pretty wet.

The road on the side of the house (and out front I presume) has been plowed - I wonder if they put any sand down or if it’s going to freeze slick. I heard back from our plow guy - we’re first on his list once the mess stops falling, which might not be till tomorrow. We shall see.

It’s as good a time as any to do some more crocheting.

Aw, cutie! He should tire himself in the snow.

Morning all. Slept in until nearly 8am so off to a slow start of the day. Have done the NY TImes Sunday paper run and in about an hour I’ll get dressed for Dining out at Longhorn’s. Outside of that nothing much on the agenda.

Here it has been rain, rain, and more rain, mixed with 35-40F temperatures and a strong breeze, so the wind-chill factor is probably well below freezing. Rain is due to continue until about 1pm and then the temperature will drop into single digits tonight, so hope the roads dry up in time or driving tomorrow will really be an adventure to avoid.

Shoe, being a life-long bachelor, I obviously know nothing about flirting, but maybe a small opening comment like “you really must love your pepperoni” or something inane like that may break the ice. Ya never know.

Happy De-heathenizing, swampy

Is that a TV programme or do you have a boyfriend on the side?

FCM, dogs have my level of remembering things, which is basically zero (at least until something reminds me not to do that). Hope power stays on for you and the other Mumpers. And as for husbands… Otis-picture made me smile.

Taters, a Happy Pre-Anniversary day.

Knots, tis’ the season to be snot-filled; bought an extra 4-pack of Kleenex last month and it’s almost gone. Glad you got the reference, figured most Mumpers would. One of my favorite Rolling Stones songs.

lucky, happy yard sale time. Not the season for them here yet, probably get to see some in April/May.

Pavo, that’s a fair amount of snow for the St. Louis region, take care.

And that’s all for now. Everyone stay warm and take care.

Note to the single ladies: Don’t ask about his financial style, politics, or physical attributes. Ask it he thinks a Darwin Award is something to aspire to.

< towels off idiot >

I’ll give you 10 for the whole lot right now.

Is that like pitchers and catchers in Spring Training, or does the pastor just hate the cantors and organists?
