I’m thinking it might be a good idea to get my car out of the garage. A. My driveway is long and I don’t really want to shovel the whole thing. B. The garage door opener is electric.
We’ll have a few more cold and pretty clear days, then we’re back to rain. No
here.
Editing while my lovely wife plays with the cats. Our January heat bills will be higher because we’re running the gas fireplace as a cat-collection point, but given that a good sandwich on good bread, a salad, and a coffee plus tax and tip ran $47, the energy cost and lunch at home may come out about the same.
Just took a look at the rest of the week on .gov. Low tonight 8 ferrets, tomorrow high 30/low 22, Monday 31/11, and the next four days highs in the low 20s and single-digit lows. Modified rapture, indeed…
We reached our projected daily high: –27 C!
doggio - when you get bounced from place to place at work, do you have to charge your time accordingly, or is labor just labor? I’m curious if the different lines are tracked separately. No particular reason - just wondering.
I watched a show on Prime about the murder of the Romanovs and the mystery of Anastasia. I didn’t realize that not too long ago they found and identified her and her brother’s remains in a grave a few yards from where the rest of the family was found. I knew the woman in Germany who claimed to be Anastasia was debunked. Anyway, it was an interesting program.
I made air-fried sweet potato fries and they were pretty good, even without brown sugar and cinnamon. I mixed salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika in equal amounts and sprinkled it over the slices that had been lightly covered with olive oil. Quite yum!
The weather channel website radar shows snow arriving here around 10 or so tonight, and the freezing rain staying quite a bit to the south. The projection doesn’t go past midnight - I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Since SWMBO had a grilled tuna-and-Swiss for lunch (I had a cheeseburger’ sandwich), she didn’t want fish for dinner. So I don’t know what she’ll eat. (She might decide lunch was enough.) I made egg salad with mayo, yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, and a touch of paprika.
The word “chillblains” comes to mind.
At the museum we’re supposed to track if we’re working on grant projects or Gen Ops, but we bounce around so much I just kinda make it up so I charge the right number of hours to each. I’m not going to sit there and enter 15 minutes fixing X, then 1.5 hours working on Y…for an entire day. And yeah, for some reason we self report our hours into a really irritating online system.
Got a flat tire - front left has had a slow leak and is on rims in the work parking lot.
Mobile fix-it guy can come out tomorrow, but there’s been quite the back-and-forth because, after years of zero identity theft issues, my card was compromised for the second time in two-three months. And since my stubborn ass won’t change to a local bank, I currently have a bit of a payment/cash flow problem.
As in, I can’t pay for jack shit.
After some discussions, S.M offered to float me the payment from petty cash, and I’ll just repay from Tuesday’s paycheck.
And it won’t be cheap, either. Dammit.
(This whole kerfluffle motivated me to set up a tap pay system attached directly to my checking account instead of to a card, but it will take a few days to finalize and won’t solve my immediate problems. Wish I’d done that sooner, but … )
I’ve used a manual one all of my life. Unless I develop hand issues, there is no space on my counter for an electric one.
We just hit 38F.
And a good late afternoon all. Spent longer at the gym than usual, mainly to let the outside temperature warm up to 32F, but mostly by changing and then sitting in the whirlpool for 30 minutes and the sauna for 20 so I am not only exercised but relaxed. Came home and had pancakes with bacon and toast (because that’s what I felt like eating) and will have dinner later tonight. The worst weather stayed west of us but a lot of places were closed today and I expect some will remain closed tomorrow. I am inside and that is where I intend to stay for the balance of the evening.
And looks like a lot of folks stayed inside and on the MMP today, so time to play catch-up.
FCM, Sunday sounds like a day to stay home. And at least FCD realized that you had a good point and turned around, a lot of folks (read: men) would have continued onward for no good purpose.
Coppertone, hope the grocery store wasn’t too swamped, like they’ve been down here.
Nut, I like your abbreviation explanations better than Celsius or Fahrenheit…
Flyboy, I can’t remember the last time I used a can opener, what with the pop tops these days, but I have one manual with knob in the house (whether I could find or not is another thing altogether).
VanGo, does your garage door opener have an ‘emergency’ cord you can use to open it manually if the power is knocked out?
I heard that Anastasia screamed in vain…
Shoe, flat tire and card hijackers…not a good start to the weekend.
And time to consider fixing that Big Bowl O’Pasta for Saturday dinner and watch the old raindrops fall…which they will be doing until about noontime tomorrow. At least the temperatures are supposed to stay above freezing until Moanday, which will be the really cold day around here.
Take care and stay warm all.
Store was not too busy.
Howdy Y’all! I am a dang good down home cook even if’n I do say so myself. Sup was soooooo good! Plus leftovers for tomorrow, so win-win. I even made a peach cobbler which we et with ‘niller ice cream while we watched some more All Creatures Great and Small. It was nice enough to sit out on the back porch and day drink (beerverages for those keepin’ score). Rain will move in tomorrow afternoon way after we return from deheathenization.
Shoe ouch about the flat and the card hijack!
All y’all with the ick weather stay safe and shelter in place.
Up from naptime, watching hockey. It’s down to 22 Ferret Heights. the radar shows the precip is overhead, but I don’t see anything outside. Having a Sazarac and Asian BBQ stirfry.
I had my parents’ 1970s electric can opener till it died, now I use a rim lifter manual.
Outside it is!
I suppose I should, but running to the time clock 8 times a day would be counter productive. Plus there’s like 100 work codes in the time clock.
Spot and I have 2 fifth of gin and four cases of beer, so we’re good till Sunday night.
So far, this storm has been very disappointing. It is cold. There was a light dusting of snow. It’s been below freezing all day so I wouldn’t want to be out on the roads now. The only real concern for us is if we lose power but we have plans for that as well. The generator won’t be able to keep up, so if it gets colder than 60F inside, we are out of here.
Moooom, I am not going to share that recipe yet. I haven’t tried it because someone used half of the package trying to make microwave brownie cups. At least he cleaned up the mess in the microwave…
But anyhow, I am not going to share a recipe I haven’t tried. Wouldn’t be fair.
That whole thing just sux, of course the universe is going to wait until the middle of a major storm to kick you.
So, I watched too much news today and have a major headache and think I’m going to go to bed and cry for a while.
Stay warm everyone. I hope your lights stay on.
That sucks about your tire and card, shoe!
Pfft. We can try it for you.
Trial by committee.
Many hands/light work … ?
No?
Thanks for the nice words, y’all.
At least S.M. gave me a ride home - I (semi) joked that I was calling in “ride home favors” since I give The Two Teenagers a lift home after work all. the. time, including when I’m still on the clock - and tomorrow a very nice (but expensive) man will hopefully come to my work parking lot & fix all my life problems.
I’ve used his service once years ago … I think it was my 1st winter working at this pizza place, came out of my home one day to find a completely flat tire in my driveway (and memories of the enormous tooth-rattling pothole I hit the night before came flashing back to me) and when I texted S.M. in a panic she found this guy’s service and called him for me. (I may have been having phone problems a.k.a. behind on bills - don’t remember by now but that seems familiar, where I could use messenger app but not use my phone to, yanno, make phone calls.)
Get this … when I called him today, told him I was at work at such-and-such Scribs location with a tire on the rim, and that he’d helped me at home a coupla years ago & described my car, he immediately went, “Oh, yeah. I remember. Your boss called me up, for you. She’s really nice.”
Yes, she is.
She and still-sick Alternate Manager really went to bat for me today. Thank gawds we weren’t busy for a Saturday night and S.M. actually encouraged me to step off to be on my phone to find a mobile mechanic willing to work in this weather. (Considering the phone usage troubles we have with The Two Teenagers, that really meant something. Earned me a coupla dirty looks from them, but eh, I got bigger perch/smelt/cod to fry.)
Meanwhile, now I have a stuffed chicken boobie just coming out of the oven, and there’s a butternut squash soup thingie in my freezer if I get ambitious for something resembling vegetables. (I splurged on ginger sesame salad toppings specifically for said soup. And boy, is it soup weather.)
And just a quick late night final as 11pm is approaching. Outside of consuming a bowl of Fettuccine Alfredo and looking at stuff on the internet, have accomplished damn little since getting home and I’ve got no problem with that. Temperature has risen all the way to 40F so no worry about freezing, but the rain continues and while I’m not in a flood zone or even close to one, it is making things around here pretty wet, and will continue to do so until tomorrow morning.
Coppertone, good.
JtC, hang in there, both with the weather and the news.
Shoe, maybe it’s you he remembered (hey, fantasy island time!).
And off to Slumberland I go. Catch y’all tomorrow.
In an interesting turn of events, just as you posted this, Gentleman Caller (remember him? cuz even auto-fill doesn’t) showed up in my mssgs.
After accusing me of cheating on him b.c I had to work, a while ago, we went splits.
Not sure how to handle that, since …
… I have a new Crushy-Poo, and EVERYONE in the kitchen knows, because he has the most bachelor-y orders, at least a coupla times each week.
We all started calling him “Red Dot” because after a while, everyone saying, “Hey, Shoe, it’s your boyyyyyyfriend” got a bit tiring, and also, because he’d order a Small with TRIPLE PEPPERONI like seriously what is the matter with you.
Do you need Tums with your order?
It was basically a small dough crust absolutely soaked with red pepperoni grease.
Came oit of the ovens looking, quite literally, like a greasy red dot. But hey, he’s cute.
Also, he’d order that same damn thing, two-three times a week, and I heard, “girl, he’s gotta be a bachelor eating like that” and now I literally get pulled off tasks, “Hey, tripppppple pepperoni coming by! Shoe? Wanna hand it out to him?” ![]()
Yes. Yes, darling, yes I do.
Not that I know what to do about it.
He always gives me a weird, cute, shy smile.
I do not know how to flirt.
Damn, he’s cute though.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 49 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 73 with rain this afternoon/early evenin’. TWPTB have issued a wind advisory and freeze watch for overnight into tomorrow mornin’. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have verger duty. Then it will be back to da cave for a lunch of leftovers for the day’s main need to feed. RDOS inactivities will take up the rest of the day.
shoe the idea of triple pepperoni gives me heartburn. You could make heart shaped pepperonis for his pizza. I also don’t flirt very well.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
