(Old) Mist and Murk in the MMP!

The mysterious bright sky-orb graces us with its presence and 27 ferrets. I’d rather have snow to feed the mountains and stave off drought.

Ickle kitties slept under the blankets for much of the night, intermittently falling asleep mid-purr.

We’ve decided to err on the side of caution and not temp fate, to combine two overworked adages.

We’ve clawed our way up to -2F at 1045. The forecast says colder(!) weather is on the way.

Didn’t sleep too well last night. The daily bad news just keeps my brain spinning. It’s hard to keep it out when it’s all we see in the news locally, nationally and world-wide.

Breakfast sandwiches this morning and I managed to go to exercise; two good things. We still have another meal of Ethiopian curry left in the fridge. Next up will be beef bulgogi.

Back from the shopping and sammich run, stopped first as Staples for some hanging folders, then onto Kroger, just needed the week’s apples and a half-gallon of milk (OMG, I really am a old geezer…). Then onto Jersey Mikes, where I seem to have permanently upgraded to their Club sammich with ham, turkey and bacon, without all that many more calories. Am finishing it now while I type this.

Since I mentioned apples, a query; I tend to rotate through Red Delicious, Cosmic Crisp and Envy apples, are there any others I should be considering?

Temperature is up to 40F so still haven’t taken the heavy winter coat off the coat rack yet.

rocky, nice having a live-in (well, close enough) Doc.

Amen.

Alert the Media!!!

FCM, I occasionally have mystery stockage outages, but usually one of the other stores close by has it, hopefully the management will figure it out…or not.

JtC, insulation does make a difference, had additional insulation added to the attic about a year ago and there is a noticeable decrease in my heating costs. And thanks for the explanation. And hoping the birds know more than the weather people do…

And have finished my sammich so will soon head over to the gym to beat back the influx of calories to a reasonable level. Press on.

Apples, you say? We like Galas and Pink Ladies.

My fave is Gala - crunchy, sweet, and especially yummy with peanut butter! Yep, that’s my evening snack! Fuji is pretty good too!

Lowes messed up - FCD only got 19 bags of pellets instead of the 20 I ordered and paid for, dammit. I tried calling - TWICE - disconnected once, then listened to ringing for at least 2 full minutes before I hung up. I came on line and messaged Customer Service, since the AI customer service on the phone is worthless. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate phone-based AI with a white-hot hatred??

On the plus side, there are 2 meatloaves in the freezer, some sugar-free pudding in the fridge, and I sliced up a carton of strawberries. Supper will be chicken - not exactly sure what I’ll do with it, but something.

I think I need to crochet a bit to get into chill mode, because Lowes has got me all wound up.

Happy Cardiac Cath Day to all who celebrate!

My wife is prepped and they’re going to roll her in in a few minutes. Possible outcomes: everything’s fine, she goes home today; minor blockage and they’ll do a stent, and she’ll spend the night (which might complicate her hysterectomy in a month because she’ll need to be in blood thinners); they find major blockage and need to do bypass surgery–this one’s super unlikely.

Should know more in an hour or so.

Fingers and all other appendages crossed Pavo

Been in lurk mode lately & not posting, because reasons, but I’m still around.

We got quite a bit of the white stuff overnight and word on local FB groups is that the roads are in bad shape right now & to stay home. My car looks like an igloo.

All the best to her.

Procedure was quick. No blockages of any kind. The cardiac doc said “the stress test was just wrong”.

So hysterectomy should proceed as planned. We get a month off from hospitals.

Best outcome!

Going through more diet makes sense, given the demographics of root beer drinkers (skews older and more health conscious) but, like you, am wondering why the distributor (stuff like chips and soda tends to be up to the discretion of the vendor) doesn’t adjust the quantity.

During about 3 weeks in October, Braeburn is my favorite. They aren’t in season for long but taste like eating apple cider.

When I was stationed in Okinawa, I would always grab a newspaper on my flight home. It entertained me to show folks that I had a copy of “tomorrow’s news” in my hand for a few hours.

:people_hugging:

I’ve been hoping that things are going well but busy. Still hoping the same.

That’s great to hear.

Mom had a hysterectomy a few years ago, she said it was very painless and minimal recovery.

So we are back from town. The chicken breasts are in the oven and I’m enjoying a Paloma hard cider. Aldi sells a variety pack and I like all of the flavors.

As Hubs is now moving away from beef, he has to limit his jerky snacks. Today he bought five bags of mixed nuts to take their place.

I of course hit the cheese aisle and was disappointed to learn that once again, they didn’t have bread cheese. I’m going to have to stock up next time I see it.

It was super windy and we are just not used to it anymore. The wind always blew in the desert but we’ve gotten out of the habit of holding our car door open with one foot while getting out.

I’ve learned that cherry trees grow well in WV, so am thinking I might plant one in the back yard. Cherries help gout and fresh cherries are getting pretty pricey when you can find them. I can get a dwarf sweet cherry, they are self pollinating and won’t make a horrible mess.

Hope you and Monkey are doing well, despite the snow. I have missed you and your work tales - please don’t be a stranger!!

HUZZAH!!!

JtC - I have a cherry tree. The birds seem to enjoy it. I have no idea what the cherries taste like because the birds enjoy it… dammit. But it’s pretty.

Supper is cooking. FCD is showering. We shall eat soon (and, yes, early, as one might expect of RDOS.)

I don’t like to admit doing good things. (Matthew 6:5, and all that.) But today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Dr. King wrote:

Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?

Angel Blog Interprets it up this way:

We are all born with privileges we may not be aware of. Maybe we were raised in a good home, given opportunities others were not, or live healthy lives… whatever our privilege may be, it’s important to acknowledge that there is always someone out there less fortunate who needs help. Seek to serve and your life will be filled with more joy than you can imagine.

Today I joined about 50 other members of my wife’s church (which I attend) to assemble and distribute lunch bags (then snack bags, when the bread ran out – which I found to be just a little ironic :stuck_out_tongue: ) to homeless people in downtown Bellingham. There were four on our team; the leader, me, and two little girls. (Actually, one of them had just graduated high school; and the younger-looking one said she has one more quarter to go at WWU.) I don’t know how far we walked. I wish I’d remember to start Woof Trax. Anyway, we had a box of lunches, and those of us who weren’t carrying the box (which I did after a bit) carried bags in our arms. Everything was distributed. Some of the homeless people seemed to appreciate the human contact. There was a lunch back at the church we’d been allowed to use, but I didn’t stay for it.

Anyway, on this, MLK, Jr. Day, please be nice to people.

You are a good person. And…one of my favorite celebrities is celebrating her birthday today. I hate her music but I love her actions. Happy Birthday to Dolly Parton, may your Imagination Library continue to spread your love of reading for many years to come.

Also, I came back to remind folks to look at the sky tonight. There is a big solar storm and we might get to see the Northern Lights.

I did my Aldi run, had enough on my list I actuall needed a cart. I had an Aldi frozen pizza for lunch.

Yep.

Yay!

Sending lovely thoughts your way. You are missed!

We always call out the name of an order when it’s ready, in case the person is waiting inside and to alert whoever is working the drive-thru.

We also have a regular named Marco Polo.

You can imagine the hilarity that ensues when that order comes out.

Had a lady call and place an order for virtually every fried side item we have: onion rings, fries, mozzarella sticks, fried mushrooms, fried cauliflower.

Me, with a gentle laugh in my voice so she hopefully wouldn’t get offended: “You know, we sell pizzas, too.”

She totally got the joke, and said, “Oh, we’re having a girl’s night!”

I relayed the convo to the crew for their entertainment.

Later on, S.M. walked up to me. Uh-oh, what’d I screw up now?

“That order with all the fried stuff for girl’s night? She lied to you. Some guy came to pick it all up.”

:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I must say, the commute is much faster when you wfh.

Koritza attended the zoom meeting today. She was a big hit.

My aunt Polly would put pie tins in the cherry trees to keep the birds from the cherries. The amount of tins was equal to the amount of pies the trees would yield. So load your trees with tins.

Fcm, thank you for the Alexa help. I’m back to having my favourite British voice back. So much better.

Having an Old Fashioned, and the usual cheeseburger with fries and corn for dinner. It’s down to 37 degrees Ferret Height. Back to work in the A.M.

Nobody Zooms better than a cat.(Spot had a second round 15 minutes ago)
