(Old) Mist and Murk in the MMP!

Thanks for the well wishes, everyone. She gets a well-deserved day off today, then back to work tomorrow. She can’t really use her right arm for a couple of days, which will make piano and conducting a bit of a task (she’s a high-school choral director), but she’ll figure it out. Curious why they went in through her right arm, honestly…

I have a long day, teaching from 10 to 6 at SLU, then symphony rehearsal until 10. Enrollments are up this semester, which is great for my bank account (or rather my creditors’ bank accounts), but will be a lot of long exhausting days.

That is smart. And scary, that it’s now a smart thing to do.

I’m cheering all of you on as you push back.

Morning all. Up about 6:30am and will shortly break my fast with some cereal. It’s 22F right now, so unless there is a good reason to be outside (house fire, alien invasion, etc.) I will be a homebody most of the day. It is due to double up to 44F and nothing but blue sky, so might venture out a bit later. Only major task on the agenda is rearranging my files, storing the 2025 paperwork and preparing the folders for the 2026 stuff.

Flyboy, won’t get into politics in the MMP, but yeah, this country has never been good at taking care of the impoverished (left it to the churches and 'benevolent societies) and we’ll just have to see if it improves in the future.

Nettie, glad you were able to reclaim your glasses, I would be in the same state since I can’t see clearly more than a few inches without mine. I have a spare pair where I know the location so I can manage, but guess very little is outside the range of an active kitten…

swampy, don’t think I’ve been to bed at 8:30pm in awhile, usually it’s around 10:30-11pm for me.

FCM, I do wish I could remember dreams like you do…they are rather entertaining.

Piper, can you get another plug locally or does it have to come from the manufacturer? Stay warm.

Knots, will add Fuji to my list, Honeycrisp is available but a little more expensive so I’ll see if the others satisfy my apple fix.

boo fae, glad the dental stuff went fine, my appointment is in a couple of weeks. Survive the meetings best you can and hope troublesome minion will be less troublesome now.

Pavo, hang in there, sounds like a long day coming.

And time to crunch and eat some Corn Flakes (yes, I will be a cereal killer..). Have a good 2sDay all.

Good morning.

It’s a brisk 31F with freezing fog. We’ll have freezing fog, then clouds for the day, with a daytime high of 46F.

JtC, please be careful.

Shoe, I was so happy to see your post. I have missed you.

Pavo, most excellent news for the wife!

Johnny, it may not seem like much to you, but it’s a lot more than many people would do.

Metal Mouse, Sue Bee apples are quite tasty, too.

Nellie, congrats on the gig!

I ended up going to Costco yesterday. The parking lot was a madhouse, and some dummy almost backed right into my Jeep because she wasn’t looking before she decided to back out. I had to honk my horn; she was millimeters from my rig before she stopped. Anyway, I went there mainly for TP, but still ended up with 300 bucks worth of other stuff. At any rate, we have dinner for several nights, the pups have duck jerky, and I have some nice sumo oranges and grapes.

We have tentative plans to go to a German restaurant for lunch, then to the German deli for some cold cuts, cheese, and brochen.

I’m also going to look at new phones. I know what I want, but I actually want to hold the phones in my hand before making a decision. My current phone will be seven years old in May, and is a OnePlus 7 Pro. I love this phone, but it’s no longer supported with updates, and the battery drains far too quickly now. It takes amazing pictures, and I’ve never had a lick of problem with it until around November. I have many thousands of pictures on this phone, so it’s going to take a minute to transfer data.

I’d better get a move on. Take care.

5 degrees and sunny. Furnace is running every 10 minutes.
With the exception of tomorrow, we will have 3+ weeks on below freezing temps.
If I had money, I would move south( Texas).

we are heading to the deep freeze in phila. a balmy (compared to some) 17 going to the high 20s. there will be crazy up and downs in the next few days. thursday should be mid 40! then slamming back below 30 until the next thursday. ah, january.

back at the office today. busy season is in full swing at the office. there will be much working at home for the accountants. cutting the commuting time drain is helpful. they can lose 2-4 hours work time commuting.

no meetings this week! woot!

What the counter protesters don’t realize is that some on our side carry too, only we don’t feel the need to always pack when going to Wally World.

I hope that Annie feels better soonest, sticky.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and cuddling a small, reddish dog. Soon, I shall commence KP and other chores (yep, I’m physically up to more houseirk now).

I took a break from the computer and phone yesterday, and just read a book.

Nothing really exciting is going on today. I do start counselling tomorrow, so hopefully, thati’ll help get my brane sorted and behaving.

Everyone, please be careful.

At least we don’t have to go out in it unless we choose to. It was another -6F when I got up this morning and we really have to hit Costco today, so parka time! Then I’ll have to go out again to the local grocer as company is coming over for an early Mardi Gras meal this weekend.

Speaking of groceries, I’ve been keeping a spreadsheet of food costs. I found a receipt in my jeans pocket this morning from five days ago and went to enter it when I noticed that the flank steak I bought was $23/lb! For freaking flank steak!?

I was doing the Monday style Bottom White/Blue on the 100, when the usual route cutting happened. [Clickbait]What happened next was incredible(ly stupid)[/Clickbait]. The added back 3 different routes(800 pieces) so I was trying to load 7 cars and 2k pieces.
Sup: “They need you in Seconday Sort.”
dogbutler: < laughs hysterically >
So I finally got back to loading at 0600, and they put another person load the 3 new cars. And by “load” I mean “toss packages willy nilly on shelves without labeling them or putting tracking labels the right way.” So after I finished my 4 cars, I had to help the drivers finish loading those 3. Plus the irregs. Did I mention they cut people before the sort? I dragged myself up the hill, drove home, and had a poke loin, Havarti, and egg mcmuffin for breakfast. Spot is watching the vermin feeder.

sticky, hope Annie feels better.

Hmmmm… being in Miami, and your car is covered in white powder. You must want to become the next Tony Montana.

:grimacing:

This sounds strangely familiar.

Of course, the longer I was up, the more I forgot. In fact, at this moment, I don’t remember much more than the wet bathroom floor and the pre-teen invasion. Oh, and snow on my car in Miami. By tomorrow, I’ll have forgotten it all. Tho I never did question how he knew me. I know my reputation spans far and wide, but my photo, too???
Well, we saw the newly-blasted boat hull. There were a couple of guys there doing some spot sanding - the new bottom coating goes on next week. I also got to see the new deck coating in a few places - it looks good! So work continues apace there.

We went by Lowes and got the missing bag of pellets. FCD took Otis in and he made friends with a little girl and one of the clerks. We should probably take him more places to meet folks. I think there’s a dog park in the county, so I need to find it.

Once we got home, I attacked floors - the kitchen floor is now clean and the den and living room have been rollsucked. I stopped for lunch, then I’ll get the dining room, hallway, and our bedroom. I pulled out a couple of poke chops for supper. That’s a lot of stuff getting done before noon!!

Since we were at Costco, I thought I’d pick up some eggs. Their price for two dozen left me standing there with my jaw swinging in the breeze. Under $4 for two dozen cage-free. And four pounds of bacon for under $17.

That’s why I rarely buy beef.

Nelson absolutely loves going into stores. He always manages to con snag receive a treat from one of the employees, plus a lot of fuss.

The living room floor is swept and the bathroom is cleaneded. That shall be the extent of the houseirk today.

I appear not to have endometrial cancer, hurray! I’ll probably get a hysterectomy, though, because my uterus apparently is as stuffed full of strange odds and ends as dotty grandma’s purse.

Yay!!

From a dotty grandma whose purse is indeed stuffed full of odds and ends, hurray, hip hip hooray !!

Mine was cancerous stem to stern, detected just in time by a vigilant nurse practitioner. Did the robotic hysterectomy, which was much less trouble than a crown or root canal. Came home a few hours later with 5 little incisions about an inch long, glued and covered in run of the mill bandaids. I highly recommend DaVinci robotic hysterectomies.

Thanks! And glad it was caught.

My wife’s hysterectomy will also be done by robots.

Glad and relieved to hear that. Glad to hear her insurance would spring for it and that there are robotic trained docs and facilities nearby for you both.

Get a couple days worth of favorite meals stashed in the freezer, some bottles of wine from Trader Joe’s, favorite chocolates and cookies in stock and a big stack of books (literal or e-reader), then drive her home afterwards and spoil both of you rotten for a bunch of days afterwards. Afghans, comfy jammies and other creature comforts arrayed all around you both. Cherished pets for your laps too-maybe an extra delivery of their fav treats to ensure their constant cuddling.

Do we have a thread for ‘Random lines heard without context’? (Because I didn’t read about the surgery. Or robots.)
