(Old) Mist and Murk in the MMP!

I went to Fred Meyer on the way home Sunday. They had Mission zero-net carb ‘street taco’ tortillas, buy one/get one free. I got plain ones, and sun-dried tomato ones. I’ve just topped one with catsup, Italian seasoning, mozzarella cheese, three slices of pepperoni, and some olives, and put it in the new toaster oven at 450º for ten minutes. It was good! So I’m making another one.

:pizza:

taters. I took a fall like you did, death drop, and all. I went to ortho emergency care the day after and it turns out I broke the head of my fibula. That is a non-weight-bearing bone at the top so no cast was needed. I used crutches for six weeks. Please get this checked out.

Yeah, the parking lot was a zoo, but I got everything I need for the jambalaya and even stopped at Penzeys for a jar of Cajun Seasoning. The grocery didn’t have tasso, but that’s not a deal breaker. No idea how the andouille sausage will be, but I can always jazz it up.

Got the flank $teak thawing for tomorrow’s bulgogi. I’ll slice it up when it gets a bit softer.

It really is a winter wonderland outside. It hasn’t stopped snowing all day and is really pretty out there. The roads will likely be a skating rink tomorrow, though.

And the projected amount of snow for our area continues to decrease. Good trend!!
:+1:
And as long is it’s less than two feet of snow, we won’t have to shovel out a place for Otis to pee. If we got as little as 3-4", we’d have to clear a path for Higgs. But we will need to have towels at hand for when Otis comes in - luckily, I have a pile of old rag towels that will do just fine.

And the day is winding down. I’ll probably have a bowl of soup for supper. FCD wants chili, so that’s thawed and ready to be nukelated when he’s ready to eat. Essentially, it’ll be a forage-like meal. Easy-peasy.

Back from sweating and getting ready to put the garbage out (albeit since Monday was MLK Day they’ll probably be a day late, but why take chances?). Mail was all from groups wanting money, so into the shredder that goes. It’s 55F and there is rain about, but not heavy or stormy so I can live with it. Ham-n-Cheesers will restore the caloric balance here in a little while, and internettin’ and readin’ will keep me busy for the evening.

Yeah, but gravity is so 17th century; we need all the modern conveniences to be truly happy…

rocky, I hope the new Kindle comes with a return guarantee, in case your dreams come true…

JtC, wonder if it was something in the way you looked or replied that brought about the new questions. And hope the door can be replaced soon and without excessive cost. And yeah, lots of water around the meter is concerning. Hope you have better luck with the plumbers than I have had.

Flyboy, my Blue Cross premium went up about 20% and my Medicare about 35% so I’m wondering if other recipients got hit hard too. Hope you can get something reasonable. I get most of my news from this Board (not the MMP usually, but Politics and other sub-groups keep me pretty well-informed. Local news (outside of weather) just doesn’t interest me.

About 40% of my regular diet…

shoe, think you’ll be needing a Dr. Who-level scarf (picture here: https://s3.amazonaws.com/craftfoxes-assets/project_images/images/000/000/543/horizontal.jpg?1403074972 )

Knots, glad for friend but doubt you will be the only one with funding cuts to deal with. Hang in there, spring is coming.

FCM, hope the weather isn’t as bad as predicted; don’t know if they will have indoor soccer this weekend or not, the school system may shut everything down if it ices up too badly.

And onward into the night. Take care all.

One set of colleagues switched their meeting to Teams, so no road trip.

The other colleague made it home, but the trip took an hour longer than usual. Heavy blowing snow as he got to the city.

WFH all day today and will likely do the same tomorrow.

Environment Canada says extreme cold and blowing snow alert for tomorrow.

Projected temp of -30 C tomorrow at 8 am. Don’t know what the windchill will take it to.

Have to take garbage out and bring in wheelie bin from today’s garbage pickup. Then may have another hot choccie.

That sounds like as good of an excuse as anything! I’m glad you are able to WFH, no need to be out in that weather.

The insulation and windows were the biggest expenses, but the plumbers have been constant :frowning:

We are expecting a couple of feet here, but I don’t believe it. We are a block away from a main river, I doubt we will get more than 6 inches at best. Its still going to get cold, though.

Bad weather means an entirely different thing when you are a RDOS and don’t have to go out in it.

I’ll probably run to the little Kroger tomorrow, there are a few things we are low on. If I don’t, we will be just fine without them.

I hope you own a jacket! (Not really joking, I knew people born and raised in Phx who really did not have any warm jackets. I also knew several people who didn’t own any closed shoes.)

The fuzzbutts do help with the news, don’t they? Have you found a way to let your lil guys out for a romp yet? When I was a kid I had a harness for my pet rat so we could do walkies in the house.

Wear two, they are small!

Howdy Y’all! We procured and stowed provisions and the went into full RDOS mode. It was all I could do to bestir myself and make sup. Fortunately shrimpies ‘n grits and roasted spare guts are relatively easy to make. We watched more of All Creatures Great and Small. Such a good series! It entertains and is pretty mindless to watch.

Taters hope the leg is better. Still might want to get it checked out. I know you are younger than me, but as we age, stuff takes longer to heal.

Everyone in the path of the predicted nasty weather stay safe and be prepared. The worst prediction in these parts is rain on Sunday.

The beef is soaking in a lovely marinade and there is enough for at least two meals, starting tomorrow!

Chiming in about plumbing issues: I have a crew coming here next Wednesday and Thursday. They will tear out all of the plumbing in my house and replace it with new. My house is 72 years old. The galvanized plumbing is in very poor shape. I have almost no hot water pressure in the kitchen sink and we can not run the kitchen sing and the shower at the same time. The bid is to replace every inch of the old piping.

BTW: I like Granny Smith apples…

Okay. Heat wave of 35 today. I went to eye dr.
It seems my cataracts have gotten progressively worse since last year.
Sadly, I know why. I was given fluticasone, a nasal drip for breathing purposes.
Yes a side effect is making cataracts worse. Been taking it for a year.
Now I have referrel to ophthalmologist next month to consult.
Dr thinks this is a great thing.
Now I must go read the thread about the procedure.
Vision 850/20.

The Senior Clerk was off, so I was gonna run the 200 slide. Till the guy doing 200 Middle White did a no call/no show, so I had to do that instead. Till 0900, when I went back to the Slide to help with clean up, including 15 holds, because apparently half our customers moved this week. Roomie had a doc appointment for a knee replacement consult in Clemmons, NC(because scheduling a consult in a metro area with 2 high ranking medical schools and 3 top notch hospital chains would be crazy). And since Dora the (Ford)Explorer wouldn’t make it, I drove Carmen. 6 hours of driving, for a 45min appointment, but it’s scheduled. To celebrate I had Majikal Intertube Pizza, and a had a martini. Now it’s bedtime.

It’s gonna be :open_mouth: or :open_mouth: :100:

Would something like this work? Horse boot

I felt sorry for George because he is still staticat and let him take a nice hot bath. Happily I was able to keep him towel covered when he had to shake so I didn’t have to clean the hair off the light fixtures. He’s pretty dry now and it does seem to have helped. Maybe that’s because I brushed a cat’s worth of hair off him during the drying process.

That sounds both horrible (expensive and a messy PITA) and exciting (a big improvement in your home). I hope it works out without any major snags.

It has started raining but is still 40F. Tomorrow should be in the mid 40s as well so I’d best get my errands done then. I don’t want to risk the Friday pre-storm panic shoppers, WV parking lots are a zoo at the best of times.

I just downloaded the latest Stephany Plum audiobook, she’s a popular writer and there is a list of people waiting so that’s going to be my stitching noise for the weekend.

The Snowpocalypse forecast continues to move downward. Not that any forecast means anything. I’ll run to Food Lion tomorrow for more root beer, then I’ll swing by CVS for my BP meds. That’s as far as planning has progressed.

It’s 10 and my pre-warmed bed beckons. I can’t resist that siren song.

Okay, it’s going to be a complete laparoscopic scoop-out. Waiting for a scheduling call.

Evening all. Late Night (well, 9pm) Final here. Did take the garbage bin out to the curb, it was nice to see the rest of the neighbors did too, so I didn’t feel lonely out there. It is still raining but not heavily, which should be the way it remains into tomorrow morning. Got my Firday shopping list ready to go, so don’t have to worry about that tomorrow. Otherwise just waiting until it is late enough to justify heading off to Slumberland.

Piper, -30C is -22F so my advice to you is to stay indoors and begin drinking heavily (hot chocolate, of course…).

Believe me, I know the feeling…

Hippie, I have considered that, along with replacing the slab-located pipes with overhead piping, but we’ll see how it goes. Never been a big fan of Granny Smith except in apple pies.

Coppertone, amazing one cure can affect something else. Hope the eye doc can help. And see that cataract removal was recommended…drat.

doggio, glad you can help roomie, but that’s quite a drive.

{{Lily}}

And that’s all for this day. Catch y’all tomorrow.

He said probably cataract removal.

Keep in mind, this is my first winter here and I’m RDOS. I have a wool coat and Nelson has his Marlboro man coat and booties, so we’re good.

Getting him used to him while he’s young will be helpful. Nelson got used to him his first winter, but only when it was icy out (I didn’t want him to cut his paw pads). He’s not crazy about them, but, like baths, he tolerates them.

I would ask, but I’m probably better off not knowing.

We used to just keep the bowl full and let the cats graze, but some of them were starting to become a little rotund. Now I use a 1/4c measuring cup as a scoop, and each cat gets a half scoop for breakfast around 0900, another half scoop for lunch around 1500, and then a whole scoop for supper around 2100. Although Yoda is the smallest, he pushes the others out of the way so he can have the first bowl that gets down, and Chihiro does the same for the second bowl. And Susu just sits and calmly watches the others fussing around before claiming the last bowl that gets set down.

In addition to grabbing the first bowl, Yoda eats a lot faster than the others, and after finishing his bowl starts pushing them away from theirs. It’s amazing how they let themselves be bullied by a cat that isn’t much more than half their size.

Metalmouse: I’ll join in with those recommending Fuji apples!

A few days ago .gov were predicting three nights over the weekend with single-digit lows, then that changed to two, and now it’s only Saturday (7 Ferret height, -14 centipedes). 40% chance of snow Saturday night, 80% Sunday and Sunday night, and 50% Monday, but they’re not saying anything about how much to expect. We had to go to the pharmacy to pick up some scripts, so on the way home we stopped at the commissary, WalMart and Aldi, and now shouldn’t need to step outside (except to feed and water the rabbit) until Tuesday.
