(Old) Mist and Murk in the MMP!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
< that awkward moment when you have to buy bread, milk, and eggs at the grocery store 3 days before a winter storm >
Although at the moment it’s 42 degrees Ferret Height(5.56 Centipedes).

I also got stuck behind a brine truck on I 40, and was a-salted.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 8c/46f with no predicted change, and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s really not that fucking funny outside right now. I’ll fucking try to do better.”

Little Paws does a “psychic night” as a fundraiser, it’s always quite well attended and does bring in a fair bit of money for the charity, but I won’t go near it. I don’t believe in it, and I think they’re all charlatans who are preying on grief and insecurity. I have no use for them either.

That and the weather are two very good reasons to stay at home and not bother with venturing outside. I hope your colleagues get to their destinations safely.

Ouchie! I hope you haven’t done any serious damage, definitely a good idea to keep moving around regularly and consulting a doc if things aren’t improving. Good timing with the binmen though, at least they could help you get back up again. I’m sure you weren’t the first or last casualty they’d helped that day.

This one is a lovely place, they bake fresh bread and pastries daily but I can only get there at the weekends. It’s run by eastern Europeans and they certainly know a thing or two about decent bread! I bought a delicious sourdough loaf a while ago and asked if they did sourdoug rolls - they don’t, but they said if I emailed them with a day or so notice, they would bake some for me. Guess what I’m getting on Saturday?

Yesterday was a very busy day of meetings and stuff, not much productivity along the way which is getting to be normal for a Wednesday. Since I was in the office on Tuesday, I am still confused about what day of the week it is! My last day on campus, as I’ll have tomorrow working at home.

‘im indoors is off to Scotland for a few days to visit his mum so I’ll be home alone until Monday afternoon. I wonder what devilment I can get up to? Probably nothing apart from going to the gym and doing errands. I need to get some petrol as Keith will be beeping at me next time I fire up the engine as the indicator said there was around 40 miles left in the tank. I can do that on my way home from the gym on Saturday.

For now, I need breakfast and more tea!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 45 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 70 and partly sunny. We shall be bears who brunch at Eggs Up. A ramble may ensue. No need to deal with candles as we didn’t have a service last Sunday. The rest of the day will be devoted to RDOS inactivities as is our wont.

Coppertone everyone I know who has had cataract surgery sings its praises. They say eyesight is greatly improved. I will face that one day myself.

Hippie like JtC said that sounds expensive and messy, but new plumbin’ sounds wonderful. Will Sunflower and you vacate the premises while it’s bein’ done?

doggio you are a good friend.

Lily hope the surgery is scheduled soonest. I am sure you are ready to get it over with.

Now I need more caffeine and to eat a little sump’n so I can take meds. Then purtification and the donnin’ of attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed will commence.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

So far we plan to stay in place.

Taters!! I hope you’re ok. And I hope you’ve decided to go to the doctor to make sure you’re ok.

Yesterday was exhausting. Approximately 1 hour of interview and 3 hours of testing. I was glad to get back home last night and take a nap. I’ve even taken a short nap this morning, too.

Today I have one IEP meeting and then I think tomorrow is a day off. However, I have one important piece of paperwork to complete. Not sure if it’s due on Friday or by Friday.

I remember the bakeries near my grandparents’ place when I was a kid - mostly run by Polish immigrants. OMG!!! Amazing baked goods!! Sadly, they’ve long since died off and finding good bread is a real challenge around here. Oddly enough, rye bread is next to impossible to find! Is there a shortage of rye flour or something?

All this surgery talk has crept into a corner of my life. Yesterday, my baby brother (OK, he’s 69 - hardly a baby) started his day in the ER and ended up having emergency gall bladder surgery. They were to keep him overnight and there was some talk of his liver numbers being wonky. I’m hoping to hear some more news later today. I think he’s the last of us 5 sibs to have that organ removed.

The pellets we bought from Lowes are crap! They burn fast and not very hot. The others we have are good for at least 24 hours per 40#. The recently purchased ones barely make 20 hours. Lesson learned - and it’s strange because the brand is supposedly one of the best. Nope. Crap. Dammit.

Snowpocalypse predictions are lowering some more - down to maybe 8-10", plus the forecast temps are not quite as low, tho still below freezing. I’m thinking I’ll fire up the basement fireplace anyway and leave the doors in the stairwell open to allow warm air to rise. Today I’ll move a bunch of firewood from the big pile to the smaller one under the porch and I’ll bring a big load into the basement.

I’ll make a quick run to Food Lion for some more root beer, then to CVS for my BP meds. No plans to venture forth other than that. Tomorrow, we’re having a family dinner at Salsa’s to celebrate a Very Special Event - luckily, it’s before the nasty weather moves in. Then this weekend, we’ll mostly veg. I’ve got the number of the plow guy as well as cash to pay him. As long as the power stays on, we’ll be good. The county has been really good about cutting back trees and branches near power lines, so barring some moron crashing into a pole, we should be fine.

And so the day begins. Happy Thursday!!

-30 C.

Sheltering in place.

Huddled under the blankets with auxiliary cat heat source.

Yikes! You need more cats for that!

Taters, do talk to someone medical if there’s any question about your state.

Nasty. We’re in single digits all week, with next two days dipping below zero. Wind chill will be making us its bitch, however. Sadie is spending a lot of time on her cat tower, which is directly below a heat vent.

Croissants this morning. I’ll probably turn them into egg sandwiches. Nothing else planned for the day other than getting out of housekeeping’s way.

Morning all. Finishing off my Big Bowl O’Cheerios as I type this, slept through the night without bladder interruption, so I may have found the way to manage it (miminal fluid intake after 6-7pm). We’ll see if it continues to work. Meanwhile I have an appointment this morning with my Edward Jones guy, shouldn’t take too long, he’ll try to sell me on another way to invest and I may or may not do that after some more research. Like others the apocalyptic weather predictions for the weekend have eased off, looks like lots and lots of rain on Saturday but no ice. We’ll see.

Well, drat. Hope it works well for you.

Preach It!!!

Something from a baker in a lousy mood?

FCM, my rye bread is grocery store-bought, but Lewis 1/2 loaves of Hearty Rye do pretty good for me. And glad brother has joined the gall bladder removal crew, useless organ that can hurt like the devil. Surprised he let it get to Emergency surgery level.

Unfortunately, morons (or to be more specific, moronic behavior) abounds…

**Stay warm, Piper

And finished breakfast with the last Thomas’s muffin, so that temptation has been purged. Internettin’ now for a little bit before it’s time to dress nicely and see the Edward Jones guy. Have a good Thorsday all.

It was 35º and foggy this morning. There were some icy spots, so Chloé and I were careful on our walk. We got back, and noticed my son’s car had a nice coating of ice, so I suggested he turn it on for a good five or ten minutes before he leaves for school. He was also worried about parking on the street Friday night. I told him that we’ll pull into the driveway behind my car, and we can plug his in, so the battery remains charged. I’ll top mine off after yoga class tomorrow morning, so we have an emergency electrical source if needed. Worse comes to worse, we’ll have a warm place to hide out.

I started counselling yesterday. I like her, she’s easy to talk to. She asks good questions and follows up. I like how she put it - it’s her job to be confused, and for me to provide clarity. By providing clarity for her, hopefully I’ll get clarity for myself.

They downgraded our predicted 15" of snow to 3" of snow and 1" of ice. Next week, it doesn’t look warm enough for it to melt, either.

Happy Thursday!

Our storm has been downgraded as well. Maybe 8 inches of snow over the weekend and no under zero temps. It will still be under freezing for a week though.

No plans for the day except for dropping a few things off at the old folks home. James has a small fridge that I’ve kinda taken over filling for him. They feed the inmates, but he’s tired of eating the same thing year in and year out.

Thanks for the morning kitten pic, Lily. They just keep getting cuter!

I hope your upcoming surgery is fast and painless.

I can’t find it here either. I have rye flour that I bought in Kentucky because I haven’t even found the flour in WV yet.

But at least its over and done! You deserve yet another nap to make up for it.

You are a very good friend. I hope roomie starts feeling better soon.

hey jtc, there is leave in conditioner for pets. girl with the dogs uses it in her grooming videos. PURE FUR! Sensitive Skin Conditioning Spray, 8oz – Girl With The Dogs

work started off a bit crazy. i can handle rodents and reptiles…not a huge, icky flying la cucaracha on the ceiling of my area near my desk!

i quickly left and called for help. 2 guys from the building came up. they swatted it down. it flew to my desk! now i’m fleeing the area. there was much “where did he go?” “is it on my coat?” “not my backpack!” “i can’t see it” “it’s on the floor…” then much pounding happened. then “it won’t die, its still moving” then finally they emerged victorious from under my desk. whew, once my heart rate and formication resolve i should be okay.

thankfully susan had provided kitten pictures to calm me.

:open_mouth: That’s cold!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Today is laundry day along with a few other minor chores.

When I walked Nelson this morning, I forewent the walker and went back to the cane for the first solo time since I’ve been home.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Good morning.

It’s 23F and foggy here. The forecast calls for morning fog, afternoon clouds, and a high of 40F.

BooFae, I was the second person to slip and fall on the driveway during their route.

The leg is still sore, but I can move around a little better today. If things are still not close to normal by Monday, I will call the doc.

Hippy, that sounds so expensive! But yay for better water pressure.

It looks like the kitties love each other, Lily. They look so cute cuddled up together.

At the end of this month, it’ll be nine months since I last worked. Yesterday, I received another message for help. I helped out, but given the person who had the problem, I doubt the solution will remain embedded.

There were also strong hints (again) that they would soon be able to hire for my old position. I’ve been hearing that since September. If one were to look at USAJOBS, my old organization doesn’t have a single job listing nationwide. I think they’re going to suffer under a reorganization, and that particular agency will be decimated. I hope I’m wrong, because their mission is vital.

It’s time to finish my coffee. Stay warm and safe!

Yay! Progress!

I rode with FCD to the marina - the new deck finish looks amazing!! No more splitting teak. It’s now got a light gray textured paint - such a difference!

After I have a bit of lunch, I’m going to set about moving firewood. I’ll make sure the basement fireplace is clean and ready for action! I think having it warm down there will help keep the upstairs warm, too. So, manual labor ahead!

So I was origninally loading 200 Middle Green, they 45min in, TPTB moticed the Bottom Blue loader was a no call/no show. So I got moved there. Did I mention it was a 900 piece set? So I was behind the 8Ball all morning, and 2 of the drivers finished loading their trucks, which I hate. But I still did better than half the other people. Nothing like Peak volume on a non people scheduling. I did my Senior Day shopping. Teeter was blown out of frozen pizza, buttermilk(but not regular milk), chicken broth and stock, and chicken. So I guess frozen pizzas and fried chicken soup are on the ice storm menu. It’s currently 56F(13.33C0, which is decidedly not ICEPOCALYPSE weather.

I don’t blame you or the cat.

“Mom! we’re touching each other!”

Accuweather is now saying we’ll get 5-6" of snow, but also ice. (Not ICE.) Our county generally does a good job of keeping the main roads open, and we’re less than a quarter of a mile from the main road. So we shall see how it goes.

On the other hand, once the storm moves in, we can’t expect daytime highs to get above freezing till about 2 weeks from now, and even then, the nights will drop into the teens. And probably no appreciable warming till mid-Feb. Not that such long term forecasts are all that reliable.

This reminds me of a stretch of nasty weather that hit this area a few years back. The local news interviewed a man who was complaining that power was out and his fridge wasn’t running. Um, it’s cold outside - maybe put your perishables out there??

Meanwhile, it’s low 50s here right now and lots of sun. Hard to believe in 2 days it’ll be mega-cold and icky. I’ve moved firewood, brought a bunch in, and I’ve got the start of a fire laid and ready to go. And even without power, we’ve got so many afghans, I’m pretty sure we’ll not freeze to death.

OK, time to rollsuck.

They’ll climb onto me, and I can carefully walk into the next room to let them play on the bed. I do put a cover over it all first…

They’re getting a lot more comfortable with me- both now have discovered climbing inside hoodies is fun, but I did discover when a friend came round that it is just me they’re OK with, they freaked out when faced with another person, and both ran away and hid. One came out cautiously for snacks after a bit, but she would sell her soul for snacks, so no surprises there. I don’t think I could manage to get a harness on either of ‘em though. I can sometimes pick them up, but they’re very wiggly.

The weather here is just grey yuck. 3 days in a row of weather warning for rain, and it’s blowing sideways. It barely got light today.

Oh, and my favourite apple is probably Pitmaston Pineapple, but I like weird heritage fruit… You pretty much need to get your own tree to get them and they’re very small, but the flavour’s great.
