(Old) Mist and Murk in the MMP!

Ah – the famous French Toast Emergency System!

Is there ever a time when a Briton doesn’t need more tea?

What charms does your particular corner of the planet have that keep you from moving to someplace with a more reasonable climate?

Currently 41F (5C), predicted high 42, low tonight 24F. .gov again has two nights with single-digit lows (5F Friday night, 8F Saturday night); for Saturday, instead of partly sunny or whatever, it simply says “Cold”. And still nothing about how much snow to expect.

I think I’m getting tired of living in “interesting times”.

Well, my favorite apple is black twig, but I’ve never seen one in the west.

Aw, that doesn’t appear to exist at all this side of the pond… Looks interesting.

I have: sunrise, winter gem, ananas reinette, nutmeg pippin and Lord Derby apple trees. I think I have have space for one more cordon fruit tree and one more small bush fruit tree. No more apples though, I have enough, and I already have a damson tree. I want to prioritise growing what I can’t readily find in the shops.

They’ve upgraded our potential snow totals to 5-10”, but at least we’re not expecting ice (we are expecting ICE). Highs in the teens. I’m anticipating that church choir will be cancelled, which will cost me some money, but spare me from having to deal with traveling in that mess.

This morning the cats managed to close themselves in my wife’s closet. She left the door open; they went in and closed it behind themselves. Later Hazel sprinted into the garage as I was leaving. I got her back inside and then couldn’t find Ash. Delayed me for ten minutes while I searched for him to make sure he hadn’t also run out there.

They’re lucky they’re cute.

Lucky indeed. We use something like this, though we got them at IKEA long ago:

Every time I put the Piper Mutts out in -30 weather, I feel like Chewbacca in the opening scene of The Empire Strikes Back as the door closes on Hoth.

Wifey, RN texted that she’d been rear-ended getting off of the freeway. She said there was no damage, and got the young man’s information. She didn’t mention her back, so I hope that means she’s OK.

BAD WORDS!!! This is just what you don’t need right now, I do hope she is OK. Do try to get her checked out, nurses are horrible patients.

Oh dear! I hope she is okay.

In cat news the new feeder arrived and was very easy to set up. Lager has had his first meal from the feeder. I set it for 1 and 7. It works a treat. Standard is just the machine, no Wi-Fi.

I am home and recovering from this morning’s horrour by cuddling cats.

Philly is on the edge of the winter mix line of the up coming storm. I’m hoping for all snow.

CatMom returned the WiFi single feeder. She cut out the shape I’d drawn on an old potato salad lid, and blocked off the other side of the non-WiFi double feeder (which is what I was going to do yesterday).

Mr. brown ordered some gizmo which holds all his extensive music library - a little widget about the size of a matchbox. He also ordered some new earpods to go with it. This setup is so he can listen to his own music at the gym rather than the syrupy pop/rap tunes that they play.

Good gosh, I’m tired of hearing about this. When he has some new tech stuff, especially audiophile stuff, he becomes utterly obsessed with it. He can talk about nothing else for hours and I understand virtually nothing of what he’s talking about. It got so I pretended to be under the weather so I could go to bed and get away from the nonstop techie spiel.

From my nifty new dictionary, I found the word “sturmfrei “. The freedom and exhilaration of having physical space to oneself; the sense of independence and possibility when no one is around.

A good fix,Johnny la.

At present lager is attempting to break into the new feeder.

It’s a dry cold.

Howdy Y’all! We were bears who brunch and then went on a kinda long and aimless ramble. When we got back in town we went to the DQ drive thru and got peanut buster parfaits. YUM! Nappage was needed afterwards. We day drank martinis out on the back porch in Tshirt and jammie pants cause it was warm enough to do so. Then we watched two more episodes of All Creatures Great and Small. We are attempting to ration the number we watch because we want to make it last.

At work, having a “healthy” yogurt during a quiet spell.

Cream cheese frosting flavored, with chocolate and red velvet crumble things to mix in … I figured, if I die on those icy roads tonight, at least I’ll have had dessert first.

We’re at 17 F right now but Oracles predict minus two or three, and a “high” of 2 F tomorrow.

One of my customers was like, “Should I doordash you a space heater?” and I pointed to our little soldier huffing away on the counter behind me.

Sweet sentiment, though!

Evening all. Met with my financial adviser and while I did not invest any more funds, we did discuss getting a Power of Attorney in case I am unable to communicate/direct my funds but still alive, and of course he had a attorney’s card if I want to contact them…we’ll see. Also explained why my Federal income tax goes up, down and sometimes is non-existent on my Annuities monthly payout, but that hurt my brain some although I think I have the basic idea. Then did my gym thing and came home to watch some soccer (European Europa League) and eat a Cheeseburger. Will have something else later nearer bedtime but feel pretty full now. Awaiting tomorrow and see what the weather will actually bring–we appear to be on the line between “lots of cold rain” and “lots of icy roads” and no one seems sure which it will be. 44F right now so not too bad.

And 22 messages (at the moment) to scroll through…

Maus, probably a good idea to get Son’s car off the street, looks like you’ll certainly be in the frozen road area this weekend. And glad you and your counselor hit it off well.

rocky, can sympathize on the giant flying bug, glad the two guys were able --finally–to help. Although I did at first read ‘formication’ as something else altogether… :scream:

red, glad you’re improving.

Taters, sounds like as much as you didn’t want to leave (IIRC), it might have been the best thing for you in the long run.

doggio, I’ll be interested in seeing what’s short at Kroger tomorrow, since Firday might be the last chance to stock up. I’ll try to remember to check the Frozen Pizza section.

FCM, just looked at the 10-day forecast and except for a couple days where the high will reach 40F, I’ll be in the 20’s-30’s for the rest of it, so the February heating bill will be…higher…

Thanks for all the feedback and stories on apples; I plan, starting next week, to try Gala, Fuji, Sue-Bee and Honeycrisp, each for a week and see how they taste–reports may be forthcoming if I remember…

flyboy, guess it was inevitable and suspect it won’t be the last Mumper/family member to have one this winter. Hope Wifey, RN and car are both fine.

lucky, never cared much for the music tech and I try not to let electronics dominate my life, but it ain’t easy these days. And Techno-Husband just makes it worse…hang in there.

shoe, Brrrr… And your special treat sounds delicious.

And need to do some further internettin’, so will try to get back to all y’all before bedtime. Take care.

This morning, I got offered a surgery appointment for a date in March when I’m not here. I went over my dates again (did so last week for the scoping) and scheduling was to check with the doc about whether there was something in the next 6 weeks when I’m entirely available, or if she was comfortable waiting for a mid-April date. Haven’t heard back yet.

I’d be willing to see a different surgeon as long as she’s experienced with the procedure.

Thanks for the link, but that’s for dawgs. George really isn’t a dog, he just acts like one. He looks fabulous today

Well, his fur did look much nicer before Jolene roughed him up all over the dining room…

Missed the great Apple survey. My fave is Fuji.

Currently -32 C and dropping. Probably start the day tomorrow with a low of -35.

Positive note: had to go out on on of those absolute need-to errands late in the afternoon. Car started even tho’ not plugged in, but with some grumbling.

Drove around a fair bit before finishing the errand, just to charge the battery a bit and warm up the fluids.

And of course, the “low tire pressure” light came on. I am not happy about the idea of kneeling on the cold, cold ice trying to fill the tires. The air compressors at the filling stations often don’t work very well in the cold.

Do tire shops around you do free check-and-fill on your tires? Just a thought.

My brother got home this afternoon. I’m sure he was glad. Surgery suxxxx regardless - even if you want it.

Anyway, tahred. G’night.
