Up from naptime, watching hockey. Dinner tonight was Italian chicken with rosemary pepper potatoes and green beans with grilled olives and [Bobby flay]Calabrian chilies[/Bobby Flay]
I hope that MrsLA isn’t sore after her accident, flyboy.
I replenished my stash of sympathycards (plus a congrats one) this evening because at a certain age, one needs to keep some of those around. After, I shared a bowl of popcorn with Nelson.
There are times when they are sleeping together and she will wake up, stretch and then make biskits on his belly before curling back to finish her nap. I get all of the cute in my room
Now, you gotta remember that I’m speaking from winter experience in AZ, but don’t tires always deflate a little when it is cold and then warm up and reinflate when they move around? I learned to ignore that light for at least half an hour before thinking about doing something. Usually the doing something part involved hauling out the compressor and filling all five tires to spec.
Because I’m lazy and have a bad hip, I’ll move my car a foot or so to be sure that the valve is on top to avoid having to kneel down.
Well, that surely does suck. I hope you can get it done sooner rather than later.
I don’t care for apples. I will eat them if they are on my plate, but I won’t put them there myself. As a result, I never thought I’d like hard cider until we moved here but I’m certainly a fan now!
That was super nice! Good customers appreciate the folks who make them food. The bad ones should just go and eat at Taco Bell or something.
So we went off to the big Kroger because Hubs has been looking at low-carb gout recipes and found some sweets he would like me to make. I got everything on my list of rabbit food he is now forced to eat every night, but couldn’t find almond butter for his brownies. I’ll sub peanut butter for now and will plan a trip to Kentucky for after it warms up again. (Don’t grab your pearls, its only a 45 minute drive and traffic is always very light. West Virginia is a very small state and we visit neighboring states on a regular basis.)
I didn’t notice any panic stocking happening with the exception of the empty deli counter. The workers were looking shell shocked and they only had half the counters filled. Either they sliced a months worth of meat and cheese today or the delivery didn’t arrive and they spent the day telling people that they were out of everything.
Hubs charged up his electric leaf blower for me to carry tomorrow. He’ll be there but he wants me to have something less lethal if ICE starts spraying tear gas. James and I also have goggles just in case.
Hubs went with me to the old farts home but waited in the car. He said he could see the inmates all turn and start shuffling after me when they saw my bags of food. He said it looked like a zombie movie but they were all saying Brrrreeeaaaddd instead of Brrraaaiiinns!
(Guilty pleasure…I like trying different jams but bottles go to waste in our fridge. Now I can buy a jar, take it to the old farts home and try it on toast, then leave it for the inmates to finish. James says that nothing I leave by the toaster lasts, everyone is bored with the food.)
So its time for George and I to go to bed. Hubs is already there and Jolene has been squeaking at us.
That’s kind of like when I lived in Tennessee. While east to west was spread out, you came in from Kentucky on I65 at mile marker 117, so easy trips to both Kentucky and Alabama.
8 F right now where I am. Yesterday, while lifting my windshield wipers I managed to completely remove one of the blades off the holder thingy. It was cold, my fingers were stiff, and if you didn’t guess from my description I am not mechanically inclined under the best of circumstances.
So now I’m down a windshield wiper.
Also, either someone stole my snow shovel or it got blown over in the storm, is under six inches of snow, and I’ll find it in a few months. I’d give it a 50-50 tossup.
Damn thing is a (very pretty) bright blue color, so I should be able to spot it. Last seen yesterday leaning against my house in a convenient spot by my side door.
Currently tossing treats to Monkey and awaiting my oven dinner - a chicken pot pie & one (1) crab cake, cuz why not.
Oh, and tomorrow, my mom goes to the hospital to have her pacemaker battery replaced. (I joked that they’re gonna unplug her, then plug her back in. She was … semi amused.)
Today I walk in to work to find out Sprinkles beloved stepmother fell (probably slipping on ice) and busted her ankle badly … and Car(e)less Co-worker dad is also in the hospital for what he quietly, simply referred to as “self inflicted health problems” (he’s mentioned his dad having a drinking problem and I know he smokes, also something about losing a few toes?) so we basically started the day standing around talking about how all our parents are going into the hospital!
Chickie pot pie and accompanying solitary crab cake are done, so once they cool a bit - oh noes, the door to my hot oven is open, in a rather chilly home - imma snarf down some dinner.
One more story about tonight and then I’ll hush up … a woman pulls up, we get her order settled, and she asks for “a lot” of parmesan packets. I give her a generous handful, and she asks for more. “I’m feeding a lot of kids.”
I made a joke about how we can’t have them fighting over cheese, and she said, “They’ll fight over anything.” Then this woman looked up at me like her soul had already left her body, and added, “And they closed the schools again tomorrow” in the most defeated tone you can imagine.
I made sure she had plenty of paper plates and napkins
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 6c/42f with a predicted high of 7c/45f and rain showers. Weather app says “Fucking rain. Again.”
Some people just can’t stop doing good, can they?
Hurrah! That sounds like good progress for you, and I hope Nelson appreciated his walk.
I’m still glad they were able to help you up again. It’s good to hear that you are less sore today, I hope the improvement continues.
That would seem sensible to most of us, he was probably grumbling because he’d have to go out in the cold to get them!
The only time I don’t want tea is when I’m ill. It is a sure sign that I am ailing if I refuse a cuppa
No damage to her car is good news, I hope there is no damage to Mrs LA either.
That’s what I have! ‘im indoors has gone to Scotland and I’m working at home. Just me and the cats. Bliss.
That sounds very decadent. I think it is a great idea to have dessert while you’re treating every day as if it could be your last. Why not?
They look adorable…and isn’t that typical Jolene behaviour?
Yesterday turned out to be a good day even though very little was actually accomplished in the world of work. I had an interview for the part-time job on Wednesday afternoon, and yesterday they offered it to me! I have accepted, and am now waiting for the official stuff to come from HR. No start date yet, and no confirmation of what days I’ll be working but it will be two days on campus and one at home. And two days not working at all! Hurrah!
‘im indoors arrived safely in Scotland yesterday, he did well with the Travel Gods as his train was very quiet, he got a good seat and was able to play computer games all the way. I had crowded trains on yesterday’s commute but things were mostly on time.
I got home and tended to the needs of the very neglected cats who’d been home alone all day, and therefore had to do more sleeping than usual. I had leftover tarragon chicken from Monday night for dinner, and a celebratory glass of wine while I watched a couple of episodes of The Night Manager. Today I am working from home in peace, so I am planning to get the two sets of meeting minutes done today. Always good to do those jobs when it’s quiet and I can concentrate.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 48 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 66 and cloudy. A mild and somewhat dreary day. No big plans for the day which suits me fine. RDOS inactivities will rule the day. Sup will be faux bbq sammiches .I will shred the leftover poke from Tuesday, sauce it and warm it up. Baked beans (really just duded up canned ones), slaw and oven fries will accompany.
Flyboy hope the missus is not sore today and glad there was no significant damage to the vehicle.
JtC be safe out there today. You have amassed quite the fan club down at the old folks home.
shoe that is a nice customer. Stay as warm as possible. Chikin pot pie is a wonderful thing on a cold night.
BooFae conga rats on the new gig! Sounds like it will be as perfect a situation as irk can be.
I accidentally bought waaaaaaay too much tarragon recently - do you have any idea how big a jar is needed to hold 3.5 oz of dried tarragon?? So I need recipe suggestions to use it up, from you or anyone else, please!!
As I have been since we’ve known each other… Thanks for the serenade anyway.
Yep, today I hit the big 72, and it’s a rather foreboding number. My paternal grandfather and my dad both died at 72. My paternal grandmother died in 1972. So, yeah, kinda unnerving…
And not only my b-day, but it’s <drumroll> Laundry Day!!! I’ll do a few chores around the house plus I’ll make a run to CVS since I forgot to go there yesterday. And we’re meeting Daughter and her crew at Salsa’s for supper around 5. Last bit of fun before Snowmageddon or the Snowpocalypse or whatever is in store for us.
Latest forecast is maybe 8" of snow topped with maybe half an inch of ice. And let’s not forget a week or so of sub-freezing temps. Dammit. How much longer till spring??
As summarised by the good folk at Environment Canada:
Remarks: A cold and windy air mass has moved into Saskatchewan, bringing falling temperatures and wind chill values dropping into the -40 to -45 range. Wind chill values may improve slightly during daytime hours, but are expected to drop back below -40 each night for the next several nights.
It is -5f -21c. We are thinking hard about going to the gym or not this morning. I have an eye doctor appointment at 1030 so I have to go out then but sitting inside in my warm robe with a nice cup of coffee seems like the thing to do.
This one is very simple - throw some chopped onion, mushrooms, leek and garlic in a big pan for a few minutes, then add your chopped chicken (I use thighs, you may want to use boobies), cook for a few more minutes, add some chicken stock and water, salt, pepper, mixed herbs and as much tarragon as you want. Bring to a boil, cover and simmer for 20-30 minutes and it’s done. I serve mine with pasta or sometimes I put extra water in the pan and chuck in some orzo.
16f here. Hate staying in but its better for health to do so. I have 7 books, and tomorrow I get picked up free by Laketran to go to and from grocery store.
Doubt if there will be church. We may get 5-12 inches.
-20F at 0730 this morning. Wind chill is at -33F and all the schools are closed. The apartment is barely tolerable, even though the heat was running on high fan all night. I have both space heaters running as well this morning. At least we’re not getting a foot of snow like some folks.
boofae - I think I’ll try your recipe for tomorrow’s supper. It sounds yum!
First load in the washer - at least 3, possibly 4, to go. FCD has left on his erranding, taking Otis along.
Many months back, I’d made a reservation for a getaway to Virginia Beach, since I was getting tired of going to Ocean City. But as soon as we got Otis, I canceled the trip. Turns out it was a good thing, since we were supposed to be there now. We’d have gotten stuck, more than likely. Maybe next year?
We got an email from the marina about the upcoming weather. So glad we’re in the paint shed still.
