(Old) Mist and Murk in the MMP!

happy birthday, fairychatmom!

looks like the snow may not be a disappointment this time. nws has philly in the 10-18" range.

there is a very concerning ice storm swath in this storm. 1/4" of ice is enough to take down power lines. this storm has 1" of ice hitting a good portion of three states. very, very concerning.

i am calm, yet wary in the office today. eyes on a swivel.

Happy birthday, FCM!

My eldest called this morning asking whether he should turn on his lights in the fog. smh. These are things we’ve taught him. On the bright side, Fort Hood is closed until Tuesday, at the earliest, so once he gets home, he won’t have to venture out. We’re just worried that he’ll lose power, due to Texas’ oh so reliable power grid. At least he’s got his cold weather gear, and he knows how to use it.

Mrs Magill confided that she did not take my reason for counselling as well as I thought. I am anxious about that, but I understand. I had just pulled the rug out from under her, and I cannot say whether I wouldn’t have felt the same in her shoes. Also, the counsellor sent me my homework for the next session. I had to stop halfway through the first page. This is some hard shit to think about.

No band-aids. No easy fixes. Time to do the hard shit I don’t want to do.

Happy, happy birthday FCMoooooooom!

If it’s any comfort I’m 4 years (creak, creak them old bones) and 10 days (wrinkle, wrinkle skin) older but not wiser.

Today, I’m scheduled for an “evaluation” by the guy at Rock Steady Boxing (a therapy/exercise program for Parkinson’s). I am anxious about it. What if I’m too far gone to qualify?

There’s a big fat snow-and-ice thing happening today. I’m worried about that, too. The last time I went somewhere, treading across a slick parking lot was scary.

Red, good for you! Going from 4 additional feet to 1 is a big step.

I just got a call from the RSB guy. The gym is closed today due to weather, so all that is postponed until next Wednesday.

Right now the temp is +3F, with a wind chill of -15F.

Mrs. Nott did this the other day. The tire shop cheerfully said, “Oh, yeah, we do that a lot, every winter.” No charge.

Pointing a leaf blower, or anything else with a long barrel, at panicky ICE agents sounds risky.

Happy Birthday, FCMom!

I hear ya! And I hear me, too, come to think of it. I’ve said it before and I’ll continue to say it - if I’d know I was gonna live this long, I’d have taken better care of myself!!!

First load in the dryer, second in the washer. Dreary and overcast, but it is just barely above freezing. The last we’ll see that for a while. I did a quick rollsuck since I clipped my fingernails inside (too cold to do it outside as I usually do) and I wanted the clippings cleaned up. Plus dog hair, of course.

I’m looking for some different lap blanket patterns, but the ones on line are as bad as recipes on line - ya gotta wade thru stories before you can get what you want. I don’t wade. I move on to the next site, hoping to avoid tales of Aunt Mildred and her magical knitting needles. And the search goes on.

Happy birthday Mooooooom!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP once Nelson has been properly cuddled. Today, I’ll replenish spices, mend some jammy bottoms and put a pot roast witht the trimmings in the oven for supper.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Good morning.

It’s 28F with a light fog. It’s supposed to be mostly sunny by afternoon with a daytime high of 45F. It would have been a good bike day, but that’ll have to wait for a bit.

Happy Birthday, FCM!

Flyboy, I’m relieved your wife is okay, and I hope she’s not sore today.

Shoe, what a kind customer!

JtC, I’m not sure I agree about bringing a blower. It may look like you’re inviting trouble to twitchy ICE people.

Lily, I hope you find a date that works.

Metal Mouse, you’re right, it’s probably better that I’m gone. The reality is that things wouldn’t have operated the way they had in the past, and I would have been highly frustrated, for sure. But I can’t help but miss the mission, the success stories, the people I worked with, and just the sense of financial well-being. I’m still in interim status, and it’s unnerving. The savings are dwindling, and I can’t make financial plans.

I kept my foot mostly up yesterday, much as it annoyed me. If I leave the leg pointing down, it swells. I’m moving better today, but still nowhere near normal.

I supposed I should start the dishwasher. You all take care of yourselves, and stay warm!

Whoa - there’s a little sun shining! And it’s almost up to 40 Ferrets!! Alas, it won’t last long.

Thanks for all the b-day wishes! My mom just called. She lives about 100 miles north of me and more than a little snow leaves them stranded, and potentially without power. Fingers crossed that they don’t get hit with too much snow or ice.

Third load in the washer. So many dirties!!!

Morning all. The Firday shopping is done, it was busier than usual and the bread aisle had been depleted severely (didn’t make it back to the dairy so no report on milk stockage). Everything is put away and I’m in for the rest of the morning. 41F and breezy heading to 48F, but tomorrow and Sunday are going to be wet and possibly icy, although the Saturday forecast is in the 35-38F range. Sunday could be worse and temperatures will get below freezing. We’ll just have to see how it goes.

And a chatty bunch we’ve been this morning…let’s see what’s doing in Mumperland…

Lily, hope they can get a date set you’re happy with.

Piper, some places (usually tire stores) will fill my tires for me…might be worth checking (and FCM beat me too it). I haven’t had a low tire pressure light yet on my new car, but that is coming I am sure. And dang that is some serious cold weather you are having!

Trieste, I’ll add them to the list, they are a bit pricier than most of the others.

:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: You folks are good people.

red, JtC, yeah, I’m about a 30-35 minute drive to Tennessee, which I usually do for lottery tickets when the prize gets to ridiculous size.

shoe, someone at work should be able to help with the wiper, if you have a replacement blade available. Hope the shovel makes a dramatic re-appearance. And age does get people to hospital more often…hope they all recover. And nice touch to help out a woman who is obviously cooped up with the Little Rascals…

Boo fae, good news on the job!

Hippo-Birdies Two Ewes FCM!!!. And you’re good for another 20 years, based on your Mom’s longevity.

Coppertone, stay warm and catch up on your reading.

Cookie, sounds like you could give Piper a run for the money in coldest places. Take care.

Maus, best to all.

Knots, appendages crossed for the exercise program.

Taters, yeah, I hear you. I hope they get the retirement funds figured out for you real soon.

And time to fix a couple of sammiches for lunch and then determine if I’m going to the gym or not today. Take care all.

I was clerking the 100 Slide today. Oops. I meant loading 200 Middle Green. Oops, I meant 200 Middle While(again it took 'em 45min to figure out the guy was a no call/no show.) Which was a mess, since the cages were packed, it and was high enough up off the belt I had trouble grabbing all the 50lbs. packages. I stopped at Teeter for some Nexium(generic), bought a box of Duraflame logs(just in case). The bread, milk, and eggs were completely blown out(insert Southern panic joke), as was the potatoes and onions. So the updated ICEPOCALYPSE menu is French toast, defrosted frozen pizza, and raw potato and onion salad. There was plenty of beer and firelogs left. I stopped at the Likker sto, since gin does not require electricity.
And it’s 48F here(8.89C)

What, 3 cats and nobody is shoving a butthole in your face?

:bottle_with_popping_cork: :birthday_cake: :partying_face:HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOOOOOMMMMMMM!!! :birthday_cake: :bottle_with_popping_cork:

If Puxatawny Phil sees his shadow, I’m offing him, Carl Spackler style.

“slightly” That’s still halfway to the carbon dioxide freezing out of the air.

[Monty Python]Get on with it![/Monty Python]

What gets me is not the cold. I walked in 10 degree weather.
Its the sidewalks and streets. If they are clear its no problem.

swampy. I was wiping off a bit of from my screen and may have accidentally flagged a post of yours. So don’t be scared if a mod contacts you.

Went for my annual lung CT then went to the gym. It’s negative 3 or 5 or 9 depending on who you listen to. It’s effing cold. Home and hunkered down until maybe Sunday. Definitely not leaving the house today or tomorrow. Like cookie, the house can’t get warm. I have 2 space heaters and a humidifier going.

Happy birthday Mooommm!

The weather here continues yuck- but with the snowmageddon on one hand and my crazy friend messaging me (and actually passing out) from working outside in 40C+ heat, I’m going to limit the grumbles.

I’m glad it’s firday, though it’s going to be an indoors kind of weekend- the rain’s supposed to go from heavy to light at least. I’ll try and get the place nice and defilthified, plus I’m supposed to be getting my second monitor for the thesis cocoon I’m creating.

I got some cheap flowers from the supermarket to remind myself that sun exists somewhere.

Happy birthday Mooooom! :birthday_cake: :bouquet:

Busy week here.
Tuesday we got our new bed, including a brand new mattress.
Wednesday, hubby had surgery and came home with an open surgical drain. Which means blood dripping and escaping containment. Nice to have for a brand new bed. So I put towels on the bed to keep it blood-free.
Thursday we stayed home, except I went to the store to get more ice packs for him, plus other groceries. Peas don’t cut it.
Today hubby got his drain removed, and took a 1.5 hour nap.
After I had lunch, I realized that I’m having pain from my not-yet-totally-recovered-surgical sites, and took pain relief. And hubby realized he hasn’t been spending enough time with ice packs today. So he’s sitting with an ice pack.
And tomorrow’s my hair appointment and more grocery shopping.

At least we don’t have any snow. And we’re hovering just above/below the freezing point. That’ll do.

Tonight’s plan is Netflix. And then early to bed.

There appears to be a tiny drip at the outside faucet. I cleaned up and tighened it. Not too worried since the water ran fine–not frozen shut. I’ll keep an eye on it. We’re supposed to have temps a bit above freezing during the day, below freezing at night–good for some grden plants’ germination. No precipitation expected for several days. This is PNW False Spring."

I’m glad for a lot of people’s medical issues getting taken care of or resolving. Still waiting for scheduling to get back with me.

I really thought I had done in my Le Creuset Dutch oven with that bulgogi preparation yesterday. Massive burned-on coating because of the marinade that had, among other things, brown sugar in it. It soaked overnight with no discernable improvement, so this morning I attacked it with baking soda and boiling water with some success, then soaked it with Bartender’s Friend and scraped it with a wooden implement with moderate success. At this point, most of the grunge is gone, but one stubborn area remains, which I think I can vanquish. I was really afraid that I’d have to buy a new pot, and they’re very expensive.

It’s currently one (1) degree F, and tonight is Long Night. Gotta clear off quite a bit of overnight accumulation and pick up Car(e)less and the roads are usually terrible where he lives, no maintenance at all.

Bleah.

Happy birthday Mooom. I hope you enjoy your day.

Well, I was getting ready to head to the gym when my cell phone rang and a guy wanted to give me a 30% discount for 6 months on my Verizon bill. Discussed it with him while heading to gym and was a little suspicious, so headed to the nearby Verizon store, where they confirmed it was legit, but I noticed the phone guy had thrown in a new phone for several hundred dollars, which I most certainly didn’t want. So sat down with the folks there to correct it and they started discussing things and…I now will have internet with them starting next week and a new phone that will probably be stored for at least a couple of years. The cost should work out to my benefit over that time, but not the way I was planning to spend my afternoon. So came on home and will eat an early dinner (Big Bowl O’Sallit) and go to the gym this evening.

Indoor soccer has been cancelled for the weekend, I think the worst weather is going to miss us but I guess they powers-that-be didn’t want to take chances and wanted to get the word out today. So my weekend is free of obligations.

Nut, don’t know where friend is with 40C (104F) temperatures, but passing out from the heat really doesn’t sound all that bad right now…

Dicey, hope that both of you recover well from your surgeries.

Cookie, good luck with the Battle of the Burned-On sugar. May you emerge victorious.

And onward into the afternoon.

It was a 5-load-of-laundry day, but it’s all done and stowed. I started a new lap blanket and watched Hamilton for the 4th or 5th time. I always cry during Eliza’s last song…

We’ll be leaving in half an hour or so to meet the crew, then on the way home we’ll stop at CVS (finally) before an evening of vegetating. As for the weekend, well, we shall see. As long as we don’t lose power, it’ll probably be meh. Which is fine.

I’ve already decided that I’m ordering Pollo Fiesta because it’s my fave and the serving is enough for 2 meals. Yay!!
