(Old) MMP in the snow, uphill both ways

Woke up to -2F and it’s now warmed to 3F. Fried eggs, bacon and croissant for breakfast.

The wife decided we need to take Sadie to the vet to look at her runny eyes again. I’m pretty sure there is nothing that they can do other than charge us for the visit, as this sort of discharge is common in cats. It does look bad, but that’s not the same as being problematic, although it has gone from being in one eye to being in both. The discharge doesn’t look discolored to me. Anyway, we’ll go through the trauma of taking her there just to make sure. Update to follow.

My back is a bit achy, tho it’s better if I keep moving (gently.) He insists he’s fine, so I have no idea how he’s doing. He did use the garden cart when he went to the shop just a bit ago. That gave him something to hold plus he wasn’t carrying all the stuff out by hand. I watched him and he did OK.

The visit to the boat was enlightening. I’ll not go into details since it would bore you all. My practice cover has been marked to I can make corrections for the final product. (I’ll work on it tomorrow while I’m downstairs doing laundry.) We did some measuring and talked to several of the yard workers about stuff that needs to be done. FCD got a key so we can get in this weekend and do some stuff.

I’ll head out to Food Lion shortly. I’m going to make a batch of chili, and I forgot to get a pepper the other day. Plus FCD will need more 'nanners and I’m sure there’s something else I’m forgetting.

I’m pretty sure Ziva is very nearly deaf. A couple of times the other day, I came up behind her and touched her, and she jumped and/or ran to hide under the bed. I don’t tiptoe around and at least one of the times, I know I spoke to her. Poor old lady kitteh…

OK, off to Food Lion now.

it was 12f when i left for the office this morning. phila continues to snarl traffic with snow removal. each day had added 10 minutes to the commute. i’ll see if the pattern holds for tomorrow.

this is the first time the work fridge has had this problem. i usually clear out the fridge on the ides of the month. i’m hoping we can find the drip tray easily. most people bring in their stuff in insulated bags and just put the bag in the fridge. i claimed a drawer and bring in most of my grocery shopping. with 2 days in office it doesn’t get out of control usually. i’m figuring a spill got into the drip tray somehow.

nelliebly, i would at sit with the cats for a half hour or so. reading a book or watching a show. if the cat sat with me i would sit until they moved. sometimes a cat needed some time to see you were okay. one cat i sat for, he was tough, he wouldn’t come out for nearly the whole half hour.

fcm, that looks owie. be gentle today.

lh75, i hope the plumbing luck continues!

susan, happy bath time!

i use diet a&w when i make root beer floats. root beer is odd without vanilla ice-cream.

Less chaotic heaving today. I did my Senior Day shopping, they sold out of milk, buttermilk, chicken stock and frozen broccoli. They even sold out of Malk for God’s sake. The City is brining the roads. The ice from last week’s ICEPOCALYPSE has almost melted, just in time for Saturday’s SNOWPOCALYPSE.

Being neither an amphibian biologist nor a pervert, no.

:bottle_with_popping_cork: :birthday_cake: :partying_face:HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELLIENEO!!! :birthday_cake: :bottle_with_popping_cork:

That’s not an ordeal, that’s a Labor Of Hercules.

Yay
< applauds from upwind >

Definitely will keep the leftover Caesar Salad from Roman around.

32ºF here, and things are melting. We got to yoga last night, so I’m feeling a bit more limber. We did a lot of balance work, which can get hard when the class is at full capacity. I’ll be glad when the New Year’s Resoluters drop out next month.

Speaking of melting: my office is on the north side of the house and the ice sickles are falling off the roof and they are loud. I don’t think I’ll be going outside for a bit.

My counsellor just sent me several resources for Mrs Magill, including a lead on a local support group for spouses/partners. I’m glad there is one. I keep hearing about how much people in my shoes need their partners’ support, but what about the partner? She’s just had the rug pulled out from under her - she needs support, too.

Time for my 11:30 meeting. Woo-hoo!

I use America’s Test Kitchen’s recipe (gift link - good for 30 days). It’s a minor project, but it is so worth it.

They were, but unfortunately I want another one, and Strombolis are definitely a sometimes food.

Good to hear. Falls suck.

Town I lived in as a kid had an A&W and a DQ right next to each other. It was quite common to see a car pull into DQ and have someone run over to A&W, or park at A&W for car hop service and send someone over to DQ.. There’s currently a DQ just down the street from us (closed for the season), but the last A&W I saw was in Thailand 37 years ago. :frowning:

Apparently 90% of shelter cats have exposure to cat herpes and about 80% actually have it, though most are asymptomatic to mildly so. If the vet says so, you might ask whether L-Lysine would be an appropriate supplement.

Oh, I’ve showered, but that doesn’t do what my neck and shoulders need when I’m writing a lot. Plus, my paperback gets soggy.

Yeah, that’s what the shelter people told us, and so did the vet. So far there is no eye involvement, which triggers taking further action. But I’ll ask about the lysine.

Best wishes. It’s clear that Shiso has it. Her runny eye is much better as she gets love and qat fud, and she’s less sneezy. Our previous pair had an allergy to juniper, which is the main allergen here ar the moment, and makes me sneeze, too.

We found this morning that Topaz has worms (received several dewormer doses while still at the shelter), but fortunately she’s due for her rabies vax, so my lovely wife will take her in today.

I’m noon, the third load of laundry is just about done drying and the dishes are washed. Time for getting organized for my gym stuff.

Swampy, haven’t started on cleaning up my file cabinets yet, maybe this evening…

Cookie, your probably right but I think it isn’t worth the Wrath of Wife.

FCM, gload you both are doing well enough to get out. And too bad they don’t make hearing aids for cats…

rocky, hope the fridge is repairable.

doggio, no moisture is forecast for N. Ali-bama this weekend, but it will get below 20F so that is serious around here.

Maus, it is good of you to be thinking so much about your wife given your own concentration. Hope you both benefit from the counseling.

Herald, there are still a few A&W’s around, but the nearest to me is 2 states away, and that’s a bit to far.

And time to logoff and get (a little) active. Back later.

Nah - it probably saves her some stress. She sleeps a lot and doesn’t notice when Otis goes to check on her. She doesn’t much like him.

Food Lion had almost no milk (only 2% in half gallon bottles) and much of the flavored coffee creamers and many refrigerated juices were also sold out. But I got a pepper and some 'nanners and a couple other things. I’ll be making the chili with ground beef, kidney beans, and black beans (which are soaking at the moment.) Once the black beans are ready, I’ll put the whole thing together and simmer it for a while. It’s destined for the freezer since we’re down to one bag.

Supper tonight will be fried chicken from Royal Farms. For a convenience chain, they make really good fried chicken. And I don’t feel like cooking, so…

It’s 34 ferrets outside and I’ve spent most of my day parked in the car waiting for @EllieNeo to get off of work.

I’ve been playing on Discord with my friend Sean, who collaborates with me on a written roleplay project called Knights of Balmarrow. He plays a knight in the service of the country of Balmarrow, which has come into an alliance with the newly discovered Bok’Nor Clan Orcs. Rhian helped lead an Expedition down to unexplored lands that had been annexed by Balmarrow after they won a war with the neighboring country of Jalaka.

I might make an entire thread about this topic, in fact. Look for it in Cafe Society soon. It’s too good a story for only two people in the world to know anything about it.

Right now, @EllieNeo is in an appointment with her dermatologist to see about a mole on her arm that has been there for awhile but has recently started itching. It’s worth getting looked at and probably frozen off.

Then we’re off to eat dinner at McDonald’s and see Hamnet for Ellie’s birthday. I’m going into the movie completely blind on purpose. For all I know, it doesn’t even have anything to do with Hamlet.

We’re expecting 6-8 inches of snow on Saturday, blizzard conditions, and possibly another power outage. I took the opportunity to turn my old, worn-out pair of New Balance sneakers in to the excellent shoe repairman from Korea who’s the best in town at what he does. I may have overpaid him for his work, though. I offered him the $40 I got out of the ATM before he had a chance to quote me an estimate. I doubt he’d turn down extra money. But I’m confident he’ll give me forty dollars worth of repairs.

DH and I both like A&W Zero Sugar ourselves.

Discussion of cats and movies reminds me of the time Felix (RB) actually requested a movie. I got up one morning to find him very focused on a video I’d left out on the entertainment center. He happily settled in with it once I put it in the player and got it going. The movie? “Cats” (the filmed stage version, he passed long before the feature film version).

There’s always something you forget you need when you go to the grocery store. :stuck_out_tongue:

I like A&W Zero, but am more of a diet Barq’s fan. It has some bite and caffeine.

Barq’s tastes good, but for some reason gives me the hiccups.

FCD likes Barq’s too, but the only 2 local stores that carry it are quite $$ so I rarely shop at either. I guess I should keep an eye open for sales there.

Chili is simmering. Dishes are in the dishwasher. I think I’ll crochet for a bit.

The vet said that she could see some conjunctivitis going on, so prescribed some drops, which will be fun to administer over the next week. Also gave her an injection of. . .something.

Best wishes for kitty.

I’m not inclined to pay for “ad-free” games that I play on my tablet, so I get to see a number of ads over and over and over and, well, you get it. One that makes me shake my head every time starts out claiming it’s “The most authentic and original word game… etc”

Authentic? It uses letters to form words - I suppose that’s authentic. But original? You get a bunch of letters that form one long word and you need to find as many words using those same letters. I supposed waaaaaaay back when word games were invented, that might have been an original concept, but today? Not so much.

I’m also amused and/or irritated by ads for games that claim “Only people of IQ 312 can pass this level” or whatever. Call me a skeptic, but I seriously doubt the game creators consulted with IQ specialists and designed the game according to their guidance. I kinda feel like anyone who judges their IQ by how many kittens they can find hidden in a drawing, well, let’s just say… well, let’s not.

We decided to pass on the fried chicken. FCD had some of the chili I just made and I had grilled cheese because it was simpler than cooking. For the most part, it’s been a lazy day for me. Probably because I woke around 3 this morning and it took over an hour for me to fall back to sleep. But that’s another story.

I think I want an orange now.

Speaking as an IQ specialist, nope, we had nothing to do with it.
