(Old) Up late in the MMP

It is 7f and the across the street neighbor just slid his truck down his icy driveway into the highway and clipped a semi. Everyone is fine but now the highway is blocked (its only two lanes, tree trimming causes slowdowns) and it is noisy and lights are flashing.

If this had happened during decent weather all of the neighborhood would be out looking and gossiping. Now we are just peeking out the windows and being happy it wasn’t us.

So, that’s how Monday is going in our neighborhood, I sure do hope yours are not as exciting.

I was going to start a “February Made Me Shiver MMP”, but oh, well…

Nothing exciting happening here. My lovely wife is asleep, Topaz is probably asleep under the bed, and Shiso is lying across my leg. Oops, Topaz just jumped up onto my leg, too. That has the potential for inter-cat excitement.

I was listening to Mary Roach’s book, Replaceable You, but got to the chapter on the dangerous nature of intubation and decided I didn’t want to fall asleep to that.

A certain amount of mutual nipping and low-key eviscerating kicking is now happening atop my leg. Must attend to this as it approaches too exciting.

Still waiting for my replacement debit card, but we got tipped out today :partying_face: so imma shovel some currency back into the local economy tomorrow.

Ah, and this is our behemoth dough roller machine, with the requisite flour scattered everywhere. S.M. drew a wavy line in it, and I … embellished.

Actually, it’s up early. I woke around 2 because my legs were itchy like crazy - dry skin. I got up and slathered cream on them, but 3 hours later, I’m still awake tho slightly less itchy. I’ve tried several times to fall back to sleep - solitaire usually does it, but not today. Dammit.

So, plans for more reasonable time: grocery run, load dishwasher, make paper patterns for sewing projects, start gathering tax stuff. Probably more will come up. We’ll see how lack of sleep affects my productivity.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 6c/43f with a predicted high of 7c/44f and hazy. Weather app says “Look on the fucking bright side. It’s only cloudy. At least you’re not on fire. That’s fucking good, right?” I’d say so!

I was up slightly later than usual for a Monday, I turned the alarm off because it was about 15 minutes before it was due to go off, then I must have dozed for a bit as next time I looked at the clock, it was 10 minutes after the alarm would have been due. Not that it mattered much, I only had to go across the landing and log into work, then get on with the cat feeding duties!

I have a meeting-free but busy irk day today, including a quick run to the supermarket at lunchtime, and then I’ll be off to the gym after work. I have arranged a PT session for this coming Saturday, ridiculously early in the day, but I think it will be good as Amrit’s got some ideas to help with a persistent muscle problem.

Now I need a cup of tea, and then I have some marks and feedback stuff to post online for some students.

Eh, that’s a crap feeling. I think one winter I awoke to hazy memories of dreaming I was taking a bath in a pile of straight-up lotion.

Sometimes, we .. do not. Pics like those are an easy indicator of, “Things did not suck tonight; no equipment broke; nobody wants to murder anyone else here; customers were overall relatively okay.”

Also, closing with just a buncha other semi old ladies has its, ah, charms.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 16 degrees Ferret Height(-8.889 Centipedes) out. Spot knocked all the rubber ducks off my desk, had Screaming Tuxedo Zoomies, and has collapsed on the kitchen tile to cool off and recharge.

Reminds me of the time I had Lucrezia D. Hell Catt and Maggie Wonderbeagle on the bed with me and I was petting both. They locked eyes, growling and fur raising commenced, and I stopped petting, threw my hands up, and started screaming “NOT THE FACE, NOT THE FACE!”

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 25 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 52 and sunny. There never is much excitatement in my ‘hood. The biggest is when an ambulance goes down the road. I shall go to the baby :astonished_face:Wal*Mart​:astonished_face: this mornin’ for some needed stuff. Since it’s ground hawg day, we will have pancakes and snausages for sup. Maybe I’ll scramble some aigs as well.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

I think I might have dozed for 20 minutes or so, but a weird dream woke me. I finally gave up about 6:40 and I’m now breakfasting.(fast breaking??)

18 Ferrets to start the day. Lots of sunshine promised and the forecast is to break freezing this afternoon. So I guess it might border on pleasant when I run to Food Lion and Aldi. Daughter and the kids pillaged the fridge yesterday so I need to restock.

Excitement ahead - Feb 16 at Calvert Marine Museum is Fossil Poop Day!! OK, they’re calling it Universal Coprolite Day Celebration, but, yanno, semantics. :wink: Daughter and the spawn and I will attend - what kids wouldn’t love seeing fossilized poop?? Plus it’s educational and all.

Speaking of educational, Roxy is too smart for her britches, or her math class. She doesn’t understand why she has to show her work when she knows the answer - her mathematical brain just goes there. Daughter plans to explain to her why she can’t just write down an answer, but she says when Roxy understands the why, she’ll generally comply. I really wish she could attend the Montessori school in the county, but tuition is like $13K per year and there’s no way they could swing it, even with our help. Nor can we swing it if we intend to have funds to enjoy our retirement. I’m just glad Daughter was a teacher for so long - she can speak the language of other teachers and ensure Roxy gets what she needs. I expect Tobias will present similar challenges - he’s a sharp little booger.

OK, no more grand-bragging. For now… :wink: I need to make up a shopping list.

As of a little after 5am Pacific, seems to be a split verdict among the groundhogs.

Saw a shadow: Punxsutawney* Phil, General Beauregard Lee (Jackson, Georgia)

Did not see a shadow: Fred la Marmotte in Quebec, Buckeye Chuck (Columbus, Ohio), Wiarton Willie (Bruce County, Ontario)

Abstained: Shubenacadie Sam (Halifax, Nova Scotia) (stormy weather in her area)

Might as well just flip a coin. That would be at least as accurate as most weather predictions anyway. It can be amusing when I hit a local TV station website’s weather page and they’re reporting “current conditions” that do not match my direct observation. Supposedly dense fog right now here, but a bright full moon and what stars can be seen in an urban area by someone taking trash to the dumpster seem to differ.

  • To my surprise, Chrome’s spell-checker had no trouble with this word.

A second night of Sadie not eating. I’m thinking it might be a side effect of the eyedrops. Time to call the vet.

Here in Elkhart, Indiana there is an “ice accretion warning.” Because of freezing rain, every place you might want to walk or drive is covered with ice.

That’s what happened to the neighbor. They have a big house on a hill and their driveway is very steep. Once he started slipping down, he didn’t have any chance to avoid ending up in the middle of the road. It was just bad luck that the semi was going by, it isn’t a busy road, especially at night.

So currently it is 7F and sunny, and will be warming up this week. I just saw the school bus go by, so things are starting to go back to normal.

Plans for today include changing the sheets, doing some laundry, going to the old farts home to deliver cookies and dropping a box of period supplies at the woman’s shelter. It’s like donating toilet paper, not glamorous or exciting, but desperately needed.

Good morning.

It’s 44F and raining. It’ll rain most of the day, and our expected high is 51°F. Yesterday turned out to be pretty soggy.

Shoe, I’m glad last night was decent.

Cookie, I hope Sadie recovers her appetite.

My son hung out with us most of the day yesterday, and we enjoyed his company. Mr. Taters was feeling much better, too. He woke up around 5:00 a.m. yesterday, ate some applesauce, drank some water, and then went to bed for a few more hours. When he got up again, he was feeling much, much better, and by noon or so, his appetite had returned, too.

We ate take out from Karma, an Indian restaurant, and have enough left over for another meal.

I’ll probably call the doc after I shower today, and we’ll see what happens from there.

Alrighty, time for some more coffee. I lounged in bed until around 5:45 a.m. so I’m running behind. Yeah, yeah…I’m retired, there is no “behind”, but I still can’t shake that feeling.

I was a slug a bed until 7:45 am ish. Nothing on my agenda today that has to be done at any particular time. Need to pick up an rx and a book at the liberry. No idea what’s for dinner.

Morning all. Was up early but decided to modify my Direct TV package on-line, and needed to contact them as my ID and password wasn’t working…and that took awhile. Finally have changed my service to a moderately cheaper one that still gives me 95% of what I watched anyway, so we’ll see how that works out. But what a way to spend a morning…It’s bright sunshine outside, and the temperature is 39F heading to 50, so a veritable heatwave after a cold weekend.

Haven’t read any of the previous morning missives yet, so guess I’d better get started on that…

JtC, I was up late (past midnight) too, but didn’t think to start the new MMP. Glad neighbor is OK even if his truck isn’t, and sounds like staying indoors is a good plan. But I see your committed to going out and doing good…I am humbled in your virtual presence.

FCM, in my case it was a bladder alert at 2:30AM with a second alarm at 6:45am which is when I got up. Need to do my shop-n-sammich run here after I finish this contribution. And expect pictures on Fossil Poop Day!!

Cookie, I concur, hope the vet can help Sadie out.

Looking online, bitter taste is a side effect of these eyedrops. We stopped dosing her this morning until we can confer with the vet (awaiting callback).
