(Old) Up late in the MMP

Two hour delayed start in this county, which means Roxy’s school day starts at 11. When I was headed to Food Lion I saw one bus, and based on the time, I think it was on the middle school run.

Groceries have been acquired and stowed, including the big pack o’chickie wings which has been divided into 5 separate serving for FCD. They’re in the freezer. Plus I got 2 packs of strawberries and they’re cleaned, sliced, and ready for snackage. Then I loaded the dishwasher and ran a quick rinse to keep them from getting too gross until we can fill it. Two people don’t produce a lot of dishes, especially when we get breakfast out.

I’ve got leftover Chinese for lunch, then I’ll go downstairs and do some plumbing, or at least attempt to. And assuming I don’t start a flood in the basement, I’ll work on the patterns for the forward hatch cover and nav board covers. Yep, lots of excitement ahead! Plus we’re all the way up to 30 Ferrets!! We shall break freezing today!!!

It was a cold morning, and with only half the sidewalks and walking trails cleared I decided not to walk. Today is predicted to be in the forties and sunny, so tomorrow we’ll walk.

Dinner last night was a Tuscan Chicken recipe Mrs Magill got off her Noom app. It was one of those recipes where you have to do a lot of prep and then throw everything together at the end. I like those - they’re fun to do. Dinner tonight will be gyros, I think. I just need to pick up a tomato.

Last week, I noticed Mrs Magill had stopped wearing her wedding band. Naturally, I thought I had fscked things up by telling her about the GD. Then, because my brane is broken, I started having powerful intrusive thoughts, which I haven’t had since going on bupropion (except once when I had forgotten to take it one morning - not doing that again.). It turns out I had only noticed her left hand during yoga, and she doesn’t wear it for yoga. I need to get a grip.

Yesterday, I decided I wanted to re-read Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell on my Kindle, which would not turn on. Since it’s about ten years old, and I had points on Amazon, I splurged on a new Paperwhite, which was delivered by the afternoon. The screen is an inch bigger and is backlit. I love it so far.

I hope everyone has a good day. Off to the salt mines.

I still remember listening to the local weather forecast broadcast by a station in a building I could literally see from outside the shop I was working in, cheerfully predicting a lovely clear sunny day… except I couldn’t see the building, because of the sheet of solid rain.

Anyway, after a very brief reprieve where a few tiny scraps of blue appeared yesterday, the endless gloom has re-enveloped the local area at least.

I decided to stay home and try out my new office setup. I think, despite getting up multiple times to get drinks and give snacks to the ratties (their cage is next to the desk, they do an excellent 'starving Victorian waif’ impersonation) it was more productive than the average day in the office. I actually got bigger screens than I have there, and they’re at a better height for my back, so I’m not sitting like a gremlin-shrimp hybrid.

I do plan to go in sometimes, and I still need to finish up lab stuff, but I’ll be spending a lot more time in there in the next few months I reckon. The rats will be spherical.

Shopping has been done and sammich procured and eaten. Turns out I have my semi-annual dentist cleaning and checkup today, they usually drop me an e-mail but didn’t see one this time, fortunately I had a card from them taped on my computer monitor so I confirmed it with them so in about an hour I’ll head over there. Gym time will either be delayed or cancelled, we’ll see how it goes.

FCM, hooray for breaking free of the freeze monster…at least for a short while…

Enjoy the new Kindle, Maus..never got into reading books that way, still prefer the old paperback style.

Nut, glad your new office at home works well for you.

And need to finish the morning You Tubing before having my teeth picked at with sharp objects.

27f in philly, we may get to 30! whoot!

there was a crash this morning, between the time i got to the office and did the deposit. the car took down the traffic light pole and hit the wall of one liberty place. the street was blocked off, caution tape everywhere. i hope the occupants are okay.

have a doctor appt. this afternoon, so short day at the office.

the horrible smell is gone from the fridge!!! on friday we were calling it “the beast” (seinfeld reference). it does faintly smell of clorox now. i kept spraying the back of the fridge every 10 minutes for an hour trying to get the bleach solution into the drip tray area. hopefully this has killed what ever happened in there.

i brought in a groundhog plushy to the office. it is casting a shadow. co workers are amused.

happy new kindle maus. i just got the new colour one. so far so good.

susan, thank you for the book shout out! i do enjoy mary roach’s books. added to my kindle! hope you were able to sort the leg battle.

fcm, i do have highly polished dino poop at home. looks like a pretty rock.

chefguy, good luck with sadie.

i finished my book at 12 past midnight this morning, then turned off the light and went to sleep.

It’s 38 Ferrets, and check out what I did. FCD fell again today and I finally had enough. While he was napping, I got this done. I even took some preemptive ibuprofen. We’ll see if I can move in the morning.

Off to the marina to see what they’re doing.

Nice work on the path! As for FCD, I’ll just say “rolleyes” rather than post the emoji. Maybe you need to institute your own version of JtC’s expensive kitten for every spousal infraction?

If I tried that with my husband, our population would soon rival the local shelter.

Harrumph!

@FairyChatMom , thanks for your previous posts on dealing with SiriusXM. My promotional rate had expired, but the chat agent got me a new one for 12 months at $10 less per month, and added service (so I got an upgrade at the lowered rate). I didn’t even have to start making cancellation noises, led with an apology for forgetting to update my debit card on file after I misplaced the previous one and had to get a new one a couple of weeks or so ago.

OMG, no! Not critters. But I could cut his boat stuff allowance!

In honor of the day, I’m having Polish sausage and sauerkraut for supper. My kinda ground hog!!

I’m a bit achy, and I expect to really feel it tomorrow, but I’m glad I cleared the path. So is FCD - he’s walked to the shop and back 3 times already!! I’m hoping the sun melted some of the ice I couldn’t break, but if not, there’s enough grass exposed to make for safer walking. And after a brutally cold weekend ahead, we may see 40s next week!!

Going on 4pm and still no vet call. I gave Sadie some chicken pate and she ate it up. Gave her some more and ditto. So I think the effects of the eyedrops have worn off.

Sadie taking a break from all the hard work:

Should stay in the 20s until Thursday, when we see some high 30s arrive and thaw things out. It may even get up to 40F by next Monday. Shorts weather!

We had to pull one of the favorite exhibits off the floor. It’s a “Build a Dam” thing, and it was leaking. So I got to spend the day scraping old grout and disassembling the thing in order to put it back together properly. That exhibit has been on the floor since before I previously worked with the museum in the early 2000s. Hoping I don’t catch the plague from some of the nasty water that was stuck deep inside.

Yay Sadie! Eating is good for you.

FCM Nice job on the path to the shop.

Everyone give that lady a “Harrumph!” doggio I didn’t hear a harrumph out of you!

Glad your cutie is feeling better.

Glad Sadie is back to eating, cookie.

Not really, we couldn’t have that many cookies in the house. It wouldn’t be safe for either of us.

Harry gave me the scoop about the accident, the damage to the neighbors truck was very minor but it got hooked under the semi’s back bumper lift thing. That is what stopped traffic and took several noisy tow trucks to get unhooked. The neighbor paid for the tow trucks and gave the driver a couple of hundred for his trouble so it worked out as well as possible.

I got to thinking about it and there’s been three accidents since we moved here. Is that normal or is it just us? Because we used to have accidents at the stop sign by our yard in AZ every six months or so as well.

Hubs didn’t object to the idea of more cats as much as he objected to PAYING for a KITTEN. If I’m going to get a spite cat, all of the spite possible will be shown.

Of course, we paid for Jolene as well, but she was a shelter cat. George was bred for us.

I don’t know how you do it. Our dishwasher runs once and sometimes twice a day. Unless I’m rage baking, it ran three times yesterday.

My husband was an auto-body repair guy for most of his civilian working life. I knew that he took his ring off before picking up a wrench and I knew why. I supported his choice and even bought him a little box to keep it in his tool box. The first time he forgot to put it back on before coming home led me into some very dark thoughts as well. Of course, they were all wrong, he had also forgotten his wallet which was in the same box in his locked toolbox.

Dang, that sounds not great. The good thing about modern cars is that they protect the passengers so much better than they did even 20 years ago.

Hurray for the fridge. I hope you don’t have to keep spraying food storage areas with bleach, that doesn’t sound optimal.

I am not surprised, you just seem the sort. What kind? I have turtle poop or so the card says.

You are a very good wife!

Both of you are engineers, maybe consider mounting a cable between house and shop. It can be used for support during times of ice or you could hook a basket to it and slide heavy things back and forth instead of carrying them.

We think it will reach freezing this week, how exciting!

BTW, its the first of the month. Change your furnace filters.

She has those adorable little ear flaps  George and Jolene don’t, but VBC did.

Were you part of the installation? Surviving in that environment for 25 years is a tribute to the care involved.

So all of my stuff got done and when I was getting rid of the cookies and raw toast, one of the residents at the home gave me two handmade potholders. My eyes got wet.

I had ordered a fun looking snowman kit and it arrived today. It looks even more fun now that I have it in my hands, the designer used a lot of decorative stitches with different whites. Oh and there is some beading. No way around it and I have to do the beads after all the white threads have been worked. That will show the blood so bad :frowning:

Another light staffing day. I was running all three slides, plus I kept helping sort on all three sort tables. They kept sending stuff through the system as feeder trucks came in, even after the package car drivers that did come in left. I was the only person on the 100 Table for the last 200 or so packages down the slide. Luckily I only had a couple of damages. I had to Roomie’s Explorer, since Dora(the Ford Explorer) doesn’t like cold. But it got up to 41 degrees Ferret Height, so a lot of the snow(and leftover ice from last weekend’s storm) melted. So a short nap, and now I’m up and having a bacon cheeseburger, fries, corn with Old Bay. And an Old Fashioned.

Indeed.

I’m glad.

Spot would enjoy this.

Y’all need to stop falling.

Glad she’s eating.

Harrumph! And it’s Hedley Lamar, Hedley

Howdy Y’all! I was a brave bear and got the dreaded errands done. As a reward, I got taken to Eggs Up for pancakes, scrambled aigs and snausages. That was fine by me as I can use the thawed snausage in da fridge to make a beastloaf for tomorrow’s sup. Nappage was needed afterwards. I attended a Candlemas (Feast of the Presentation) service at the church house at six p.m. OYKW opted not to go. I was the (non cannibal kind) lector. A fairly good crowd by our standards showed up. I got two candles blessed. I don’t know why, I just did.

I read all but comprehension is all but gone cause my brain is tahrd. I promise to be more responsive tomorrow.

Candlemas is when candles are blessed.

If candlemas be fair and bright, 6 more weeks of winter’s might.

My dad was a machinist by trade and did woodworking on the side. He always (and still does out of habit) carried his wedding ring on his key ring for the same reason.

We saw 70 ferrets today. :blushes:
