(Old) Up late in the MMP

Late night final here. Dental Appointment went fine, no problems and the dental assistant actually managed to do the tooth polishing without problems. Then visited Wal-Mart, had an early dinner and spent most of the night at the gym, so should sleep well tonight. Still just above freezing so hopefully a slightly warmer day tomorrow.

And doing the nightly catch-up…

rocky, glad the fridge is doing better, of course the descendant of the beast you killed in the back of the refrigerator will swear vengance on you, so be careful… :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

FCM, a fine shoveling effort.

Cookie, glad to hear Sadie’s eating again.

VanGo, a 20-year old exhibit that’s apparently meant to be hands-on…hope you took all the precautions before working on it.

And that’s about all I energy left for. Catch up with all y’all once I have visited Slumberland. Take care all.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 27 degrees Ferret Height(-2.778 Centipedes)

Silence of The Lamb Of God would be an interesting sequel to Jesus Christ, Vampire Hunter
I think my handbasket just hit Warp 10 and turned me into a lizard

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 3c/37f with a predicted high of 4c/40f and cloudy. Weather app says “Instead of talking about the fucking weather, shall we talk about the last time you had a fucking itchy butthole?” Err….perhaps not!

If it leaves a lasting aftertaste kind of thing, it might well put Sadie off the idea of food. Is she not touching any dry food either? Read a bit further and saw that she’d had some food, so yay for Sadie!

I hope it works out and he actually uses it! Looks like a good idea too, and it should give him a solid enough trail to walk on.

Sounds like a messy job, I hope you don’t contract plague from whatever’s been lurking in there. I’m sure you’ll fix it properly and it will function just fine.

There’s only two of us in the house and we don’t generate that much dishwashing either. I’ve never had a dishwasher, and never felt the need (or the lack) of one. I wash up as I go, so there’s never masses of stuff in the kitchen. ‘im indoors makes it look like he’s used every pot, pan and utensil available but it still doesn’t take very long to clean up.

Taters I’m glad to hear Mr T is feeling so much better and was able to enjoy your son’s visit.

Yesterday was an ok irk day, I logged out bang on time and went to the gym where I burned at least 1,000 cals on various things. I came home and gathered up the recycling and also emptied a couple of bins, then hauled the biiiiiig recycling bin to the kerb for today’s collection.

I definitely deserved to veg on the sofa with a cuppa afterwards, while ‘im indoors made Chinese chicken curry and egg-fried rice. I needed to get something out of the freezer for dinner tonight and offered him three options…he said he wanted chilli so that’s what we’re having.

The cats are all fed and now snoozing in their respective favourite napping spots. I have some bits and pieces to get on with and also a document to prepare for a meeting tomorrow. It’s all fun and games here!

Last night while taking a bite of a mediocre cheeseburger, one of my teeth felt a little strange. It was weird because the burger and bread were not particularly difficult to eat. Neither was tough or chewy.

Well, anyways, just now as I was sitting eating some yogurt the tooth (it was a crown) came out altogether. Very strange and fortunately not painful.

In other news, it’s been quite a time here lately. My mom is in the hospital and is being transferred to another hospital at least an hour away for psychiatric treatment. MusicMan has been doing a very good job of trying to make sure that my stress level isn’t through the roof. I mean, it is, but he’s definitely trying.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 29 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 64 (it’s a heatwave!) and mostly cloudy. Rain is predicted tomorrow. We shall see. It’s laundry day and my joy knows no bounds. Since I had to people yestiddy and the day before, today will be a hermit in da cave day. Sup will be beastloaf, peas and carrots, smashed N.O.T. and rolls.

Taters glad Mr. T is all better.

doggio that would be a great double feature for the hand basket.

{{{Sticky_Buns}}} hope the stress levels decrease and your mom is better soonest.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward to the laundry! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Unless Daughter and her crew visit, it takes 2 or 3 days to fill it enough to merit running it. Breakfast and lunch don’t generate much in the way of dishes, and unless I cook a meal for supper (as opposed to us foraging) there just isn’t much to wash. And even then, we have a fair amount of stuff that gets hand-washed.

He definitely uses it - the footprints beside it are irregular and very slick, which is what led to previous falls. As I was shoveling, I could see that the top layer was solid ice - no give at all underfoot.

I feel like I should have lost 10# after clearing that path. I didn’t, dammit!! Surprisingly, I don’t hurt nearly as much as I’d expected, but I have been taking ibuprofen to “get ahead of the pain” as BBBoo often recommends, and I don’t want her to use her night nurse voice on me!!

There is no doubt the Otis is FCD’s dog. Yesterday when he fell, Otis was right there with him, barking and apparently distressed. Unfortunately since the house is closed up, I didn’t hear the barking. Then this morning (most of the time really) when FCD put his hoodie and hat on, to Otis that meant CAR!!! So they’re off to the marina to take some pics of the fancy-pants bottom treatment going on the hull. Yesterday, it was a beige-y barrier coat and one of the next coatings is supposed to be banana yellow. The idea is to ensure each layer is applied evenly and no areas are missed. The final coat will be black.

Anyway, today started around 17 Ferrets - I got up later than usual so it might have gotten colder overnight. My agenda includes emptying the dishwasher, then running it thru a clean cycle. I bought some tablets that do a great job of de-scumming it - wish I’d found them years ago. I also need to rollsuck and I’m hoping to finally get the paper patterns made. If I feel up to it, I’ll give the basement fireplace a good cleaning ahead of the brutal cold ahead. Warming the basement contributes to the overall household comfort.

This morning, I dumped the last bag of the crappy pellets in the stove. Not only do they not burn as long, but they create easily twice the ash as the better brand. Lesson learned - we won’t be buying that particular product. And come summer, we’ll order 3 tons of the good ones.

All righty, then - a bit more reading, then time to shower, dress, and get stuff done. Happy Tuesday!!

I feel better this morning, and better is…better. Mrs. Nott caught the cold from me, so she’s several days behind me in this. She rarely gets sick, and last night she was doing the calm, stoic thing. “Colds last 14 days if you aggressively treat the symptoms, two weeks if you do nothing.” I woke her when the coffee was ready, and she sounds a bit ragged.

It’s 24 F out there, and cloudy. The predicted high is 27.

Rocker, you have solid evidence disproving the adage, “You can’t polish a turd.”

Morning all. Bladder didn’t wake me until 6:30am so that was 7 hours solid sleepage so I got up and have started the day. Eating my Big Bowl O’Cereal and a Fuji Apple (first impression–they are good but not quite at Envy or Gala level). Nothing much on the agenda, it’s 38F heading to 55F but rain is due to start around noontime and continue into the evening, so we take the good with the bad when it comes to weather.

As for my dishwasher, at most I run it once a week and sometimes 10-11 days pass. I do soak the very dirty (mac-n-cheese, soup, etc.) dishes so they don’t get to crusty and run the dishwasher on the highest setting and ‘sanitize’ it. So far it has worked for me.

You’ll get better.

Sticky Buns, {{Hugs}} for you and best wishes for your Mom. And you can relive your childhood years by going around and showing everyone “hey, my tooth fell out!” On the serious side, see the dentist about this.

swampy, I will let you know if we get the rain today, it usually shows up here a day before invading your region.

FCM, I weight myself deliberately on Moandays, because I know I consume a lot on Sunday Dinner and eating out on Mondays, so it will probably be the worst level all week (yesterday was 202lbs even, which is good). And glad Otis and FCD have bonded so well, still work for you but he’s invested in Otis’s care.

Knots, glad to hear your feeling better. Hope the Mrs. is doing OK.

And the fast has been broken, dishes headed for the (now empty) dishwasher and I’m ready for the morning internettin’ to commence. Have a goor 2sDay all.

Showered, dressed, and about to attack my agenda. I did have a pretty good sleep last night, but another couple of hours would have been nice. Oh well, time to get at it.

Night nurse BBBoo approves. She’d approve even more if a certain someone would use a cane so his beloved didn’t have to risk a heart attack or broken hip herself shoveling for two hours.

Gotta share this little gem from “The Joys of Living With an Engineer Who Started Out as A Machinist”:

I asked FCD to give me some dimensions of the forward hatch so I can make a cover for it. Very basic, very simple and straightforward. What I got were numbers to FOUR decimal places!! Because, of course, my wooden yardstick from Lowes will enable me to measure 7.3999 inches.

I figure if I’m within a quarter of an inch, it’s good. It’s fabric. It stretches and shrinks. It will have seams on the wrong side which will affect fit. Yet he gives me numbers that would be tough to achieve in metal if the temperature wasn’t constant and the machine used to manufacture the parts was even more precise than the final product.

The man cracks me up sometimes…

OK, time to start making my patterns.

Good morning.

It’s 43F and foggy right now. We’re going to top out at 57F with overcast skies. The next couple of days project highs into the low 60s.

Sticky Buns, sending hugs and well wishes for both you and your mother.

I saw the pic of all your hard work, FCM. I’m glad you’re not sore.

I run the dishwasher almost every day, full or not. All the pots and pans are hand-washed. Mr. Taters uses dishes for everything; sandwiches, chips, a brownie, it doesn’t matter. And, if he has more than one little bowl of chips during the day, he’ll get a fresh bowl. For cooking, he’ll use every utensil and every dish possible. I, on the other hand, will use paper towels for sandwiches or a brownie, and a tiny plastic bowl for the few times I indulge in chips, rinsing it out, drying it, and reusing it if I opt for more later. So, the dishwasher is used often.

I called the doc’s office yesterday to get seen about my leg. I can’t get in until next Monday. So, I guess I get to gimp around for another week.

Time for some more coffee. You all take care of yourselves.

{{{Sticky Buns}}} {{{Taters}}}

Okay, I know I said I was going to walk. I even laid out my exercise clothes, but the bed was nice and warm. Oh, and I think I saw some ice on one of the paths last night… yeah… that’s the ticket.

No gyros last night. Someone, I won’t say who, forgot to put the gyro meat into the freezer last week, and it didn’t look good after sitting in the fridge. So we had grilled cheese and tomato soup, which we like. However, as I was taking the trash to the curb last night, someone was grilling hamburgers, and then I wanted hamburgers.

We run our dishwasher when it’s full, or when we’ve run out of a particular dish, which amounts to about every other day.

I’m glad you didn’t swallow it.

I’ve found that a neti pot will really help out with colds, unless it moves down into your lungs. My hypothesis is that the saline washes most of the virus out of your sinuses, which makes clean up for your immune system easier.

the work fridge has a faint swimming pool smell. i do like a swimming pool smell. so far so good.

i have a wee dishwasher. i usually run it once or twice a week. it mostly fills up on the weekends. for hand washing the dawn spray has been amazing. it really works well. no drippy mess on the bottle.

it is warmer in philly. we may actually get above freezing today. we have a 20% chance of snow tonight. sad.

Concur. Feels like you’re waterboarding yourself, and the goop that comes out can be disgusting to watch slithering down the drain, but once you get out & towel off, that first inhale through cleared-out sinuses feels like magic.

I treated myself to a box of eucalyptus shower melty blocks (they dissolve in the warm water & create a scented steam) and am happy to share the link.

With just me, even though I’m a scratch cook, I usually only wash the dishes after breakfast. Sometimes, if I’m baking or generally dirtying more dishes, I’ll wash one more time. I haven’t had a dishwasher for years, but it only takes ~5-7 minutes to do the wash up.

I hope that the treatment is successful.

OMG! My retired machinist father would approve. :stuck_out_tongue:

I had a pan grilled cheeseburger and a salad myself for supper last night. ‘Twas good.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Today’s agenda includes sweeping the floors and trying to mop at least the kitchen. The floor hasn’t been mopped since I’ve been home, so it really needs it.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Interesting. I’d never heard of that. Do you just put the little block on the floor of the shower?

I had that happen years ago while eating a French fry. I was going to go up to the counter and raise hell about something foreign in the food when I realized that it was part of me. I know people who have swallowed a crown when that happens.

I cooked up a salmon filet last night and served it with some cream cheese on pumpernickel bagels this morning.

It’s only 6F at 1015. I wish the warmer weather front would hurry up and get here.

Talked to some old friends from our embassy days last night. They retired to Florida for reasons that remain a mystery to me. They’re finally calling home ownership to an end and moving into a place similar to ours (she’s 67 and he’s 85 with Parkinson’s onset). Their present home is very close to a bayou and subject to some flooding issues that have become more acute with rising sea levels and more ferocious storms. They had a hard time selling the place, not unsurprisingly.

All puzzles puzzed and little on the agenda today other than the “Men’s Club” meeting this afternoon. I’ll probably go out of boredom. Maybe I’ll clean out the refrigerator for excitement.

Well, no chance of me starting a second career as a pattern maker, tho I’m getting good at finding my mistakes. Part is my own fault for not creating a good reference line. At least I started using pencil for not-quite-sure lines and ink for yeah-that’s-right lines. I’m on my lunch break, then I’ll go back and do some verifying before I draw any more lines. I have to keep in mind where the final dimensions fall on the pattern, then put the seam allowances on the correct side of the seam lines. I may go back with a sharpie and trace the final lines so I don’t get confused when I start cutting.

Then I can attack the 4-decimal-precision sketch, tho I’m going to do what I’d originally intended. FCD gets bugged because my covers aren’t perfectly tailored. But if you look at instructions for making covers (I’ve made plenty in my day for our various sailboats) none of them are tailored as upholstery projects are. I may have to start saying “Go away and let me work.” Or offer him my seat at the sewing machine. He does many things well, but sewing (and painting) are not among his talents.

Just got an email - the fabric I ordered for the dinghy cover will be here on Firday!! Not that it matters - the dinghy is pretty much stuck in place under a substantial coating of ice. Plus even if not, there’s no space in the shop at the moment to set it up. Maybe next week when Sandpiper is back in the slip and projects on board will have to wait till spring.

OK, time to finish lunch then get back to my measuring stick…
