Evening, everyone! I just logged off work (yay!), and figured I’d poke my head in here before I retire to the living room for the rest of the evening/night.

Belated happy birthday, Sticks_and_Scones! :birthday:

Happy Doperversary, rocking_chair! :cake:

I have no idea why, but all day I have been super tired. Like, my brain hasn’t quite been firing on all cylinders + you couldn’t pay me to go out tonight. Whatever the reason, I’m grateful to not have to think (much) any more today!

Tomorrow will be a personal training session at 11am, then in the evening I get to decide if I feel like going out to hear one or two friends sing. I might actually try to catch parts of both shows, even though it could mean a lot of time on Metro trains (one show is in VA and the other is in DC). We’ll see how I feel when tomorrow evening comes around. Though an argument in favor of skipping everything and staying home is that my Lego Retro Radio set was delivered today.

On Sunday morning, one of the new/incoming volunteer co-chairs who’ll be replacing me will be coming over to pick up all of the events-related stuff that I’ve been storing (a table, three storage containers, a folding wagon, a tent, etc.). It will be nice to get everything out of my laundry room! Then I’ll just have three meetings to get through next week, and I’ll be freeeeeee!

Sunday afternoon there’s a local monthly jazz jam session that I’ve been meaning to get to all year. With a show coming up, I could use some “sing with a live band + in front of people” time; I intend to go to that.

I spoke too soon the other day when I mentioned Yankees games being on Amazon Prime: turns out those games are only viewable if you live in the NY area. Just like 95% of “how to watch the Yankees” options. Stupid blackout rules/YES network restrictions. *sigh* That said, though, I think this evening’s Braves @ Yankees game will be watchable (by me) on Apple TV+… :crossed_fingers:

For those playing along at home, Cute Fellow Volunteer = :ghost: . It’s now been 5 days since my “Happy Father’s Day” text (who can’t find five minutes to send a “thanks” reply to a text from someone they just asked out? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:), and 8 days since I said yes and asked where we could meet. If I ever hear from him again I might still consider it, but the prospect of anything worthwhile gets dimmer with every passing day. He’s either super busy or super flaky, and Homey () don’t play either of those.

You rang…??

(I crack myself up!!)

…and, perhaps, with a baked Shoe?

I had a pot pie for lunch (Marie Callender’s chicken, FWIW) and considered cooking it in the oven: ultimately, “quick” won out and I nuked it. I’m sure it would have been better baked, but happily the top/crusts – which, really, are the only reason I eat them – turned out just fine for me.

Oh my. I’m so sorry. :people_hugging:

Holy :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: !!

Very cool! That place/those things are definitely on my bucket list.

My local farmer’s market had some wonderful bread. I didn’t notice it was $7 a loaf. That seems a tad excessive.

At this point, he’s feeling good enough to be a little @$$hole to the gentle giant Linc three doors down. I think he’s on the road to recovery, but it still involves a few treats.

Considering the price of commercially made bread at the supermarket, it’s not out of line, especially if it’s good.

Laundry, menu planning, grocery shopping and supper are done. I may be able to free up my lap to play around in the studio some tonight.

Evening all. Been an up and down sort of day, first went to see the Battleship USS Alabama which was nice but not as well-organized or with as many explanations as other ships I’ve been on. Still was fun climbing around it and the site had a number of planes, a WWII sub you could crawl through, and some Army equipment just so the ground-pounders wouldn’t complain. So a good 2.5 hours was spent there. Then drove on to New Orleans with a lot of traffic to accompany me, decided I’d go to the aquarium there since it is right on the riverfront so how hard could it be to find? Very, it turned out, might still be wandering but finally remembered I had a cell phone, it connects to the internet, and Google has a map option. So finally found it.

And to tell the truth, almost wish I hadn’t. What there was, was nice, but even looking and watching stuff I was through there in 50 minutes, and for a world-class place they make it out to be, I expected more. Fortunately they also have an ‘Insectarium’ there, and the bugs were rather interesting as was the butterfly room. But still wish it had been better. Especially at $35 for the visit.

Then got my hotel room and ate at Mickey D’s, then drove out to find the best way from the hotel to the airport parking where I’ll be leaving my car on Sunday. Don’t know if anyone has been through there, but the airport is a mess to navigate and even worse to try and get out of. I think I know what to do, but will be checking some alternatives just in case.

So back in my room (which is OK but I can already slightly hear my neighbors) and hope tomorrow will be a little smooother. Going to see the WWII Museum in the morning and leaving the afternoon to fate–maybe a riverboat cruise, maybe the old Battle of New Orleans Site. Or maybe I’ll just sleep all afternoon. Decisions, decisions.

OK, enough ranting. Let me read your comments of the past 24 hours or so and I’ll make a now poet out of it.

Well, 46 messages since I wrote last, so may not be able to comment on them all, but let’s see what I can do…

red, hope Nelson is feeling better. Stopped at my bank and they took my check without any problem.

JtC, sounds like things are coming together for you. Hope Hubs gets there safely.

shoe, that’s crappy that something like that can be taken just like that. Concur with BBBoo it ought to be reported just so the cops are aware if it continues.

Cat Glove, sorry about Sis’s BIL and the storms, but the walk with Hubs sounded nice.

Nellie, you take care of yourself, now, y’hear!

Coppertone, wish there was something we could do to help. Hang in there.

Annnddd, I’m sorry, brain has decided to take the rest of the night off, have read all but comprehension is limited. Take care and I’ll catch up tomorrow.

Up from naptime. I got the Stanley Cup game on. I’m having used salmon and rice for dinner. And since it’s National Smoothie Day, I’m having a lime smoothie. With tequila. I’m having a margarita. :tropical_drink:

No worries. At this point your fridge(s) have become like Sisyphus’ rock.

I used to live the local version.

“Ladies don’t like dating German me, because their wieners are the wurst.”

At Teeter, the niche brand multigrain bread is $4.99, the same as the National Brand, but whithout the weird, chewy texture.(it is slight small, though).

Enjoy not braining!

If the Fairychats had a local BB, I’d say that would be the perfect volunteer job for FCD. Tinkering on a ship, without having to pay for it(or try sailing it about)

I went to my pharmacy yesterday to get my vitamin D scrip.
There was a new guy there. As I signed the thing, he said, Do you want to ring that up too?
Its my 7 oz. Bottle. I get a tropicana o.j. finish it, then fill it with water to take when I go out to stay hydrated.
This one was cranberry however, which he commented on.
I think I said something like, Yeah women need cranberry.
He said, Men get uti’s too!
Okayyy. I was tempted to be my usual funny self and say, Its rsrer as men’s urinary tracts are longer than womens…but not always!
I decided not to cause it was weird enough as it was.
Dude…

Yeah, I asked Hubs if he wanted to go to a Tigers game next week. He said that if we decide to go, he’ll go down to the ballpark to buy tickets because going through a website tacks on $30 per ticket.

Moooom thank you very much for posting about and then explaining what used meat is. Now I occasionally check the location where Kroger puts it and today I got a great deal on some pork loin chops that were sell by 6/22. Well today’s only 6/21 so instead of the tuna noodle salad I was planning on making tomorrow, we’ll have the pork with corn on the cob and sweet potatoes.

I check for Dave’s Killer Bread pretty much every time I go Krogering and it’s been out of stock for about a month and a half, of course, it was on sale for $2 off. Today there was some, not a lot but some, probably because it was $6.99 a loaf.

Hubs always used to do the grocery shopping but I’ve been doing it for the last year and a half due to his need to stay away from germs. So, he told me that when I have a coupon that says an amount off when you buy a certain dollar value (e.g. $8 off if you buy 80 of groceries), that if you have more than one coupon, you need to scan the big dollar off coupon first. Because if you scan the other coupons first and the resulting balance is less than the dollar value, then your big dollar coupon won't be accepted. Well, I used that strategy tonight thankfully; otherwise my big off coupon wouldn’t have been accepted.
The total at retail was $125.07, the discount with Kroger card was $15.07, the digital coupon discount was $22.95 and then there was a “$5 Off Sale” that I don’t know what that was for. That brought the total down to $82.05 before the paper coupons. My other 2 coupons besides the $8 off if over $80 totalled $2.50 so if I had scanned them first before the $8 off, the balance would have been $79.55 so the $8 off wouldn’t have been accepted. But because Hubs explained to me to scan the $8 off coupon first, it was accepted and so the final total was $71.55. Not bad, if I do say so myself.

metal mouse I strongly recommend a visit to Cafe du Monde and have some beignets then wander the French Quarter. I am NOT a shopper but there are some cool shoppes in the French Quarter.

I’m sure that was supposed to be German men but was that perhaps a Freudian slip?

ETA: Can somebody explain what the heck happened that the following ended up being run together and italicized?:
e.g. $8 off if you buy $80 of groceries), that if you have more than one coupon, you need to scan the big dollar off coupon first. Because if you scan the other coupons first and the resulting balance is less than the dollar value, then your big dollar off coupon won’t be accepted.

as promised:

Dude, very good looking, oh and the quilt is outstanding. Love the colors and the pattern.

I’m sure Spot would be thrilled to have some too :).

Happy Friday!

Another hot day today, going up to 95.

Went to the park again this morning and Echo started a fight. No harm done. I’m not sure what triggered it. We were leaving and my son had her and the GR in the cage, but left the gate open for Petey, his dad, and me.
There was a woman near the cage talking at the fence to her friend on the small side. As we got closer, the woman crouched down and called Petey over. He ran over to her, but started barking at her dog. Echo ran out of the cage and went after the other dog. My son and Petey dad think she was protecting Petey, but I was close to the other dog, and Echo gets pissy if strange dogs are too close to me.

Like Red said, FCM. The first few visits try to go when nobody else or only a few other dogs are there. Dogs are not allowed to be leashed at the park I go to. You walk through the first gate, take the leash off, then open the second gate. Leaving the leash on causes problems as a dog on a leash feels vulnerable.
Hopefully, the park your daughter goes to has a two-gate entry. It’s really hard when there is only one gate and you are trying to get in while not letting the other dogs out.
I would avoid going through the gate at the same time as other dogs, unless Trevor knows the other dogs well.
My dogs have harnesses that have handles on top. If trouble starts, the handle is a lot easier to grab than a collar, and it’s harder to wiggle out of a harness.
Trevor looks sweet and hopefully he will make some friends that go around the same time every day and he can have a friend group. That is the best when you have a group of dogs that get along well. It’s more relaxing for the owners too.

I miss the morning group we had.

Bun length hotdogs come 8 to a pack.

{{{Nellie}}} But I’m happy for your eyesight being good!

Nice quilt Hippie

I hope Nelson gets better soon Red

I’m tired.
I took a four hour nap this morning and I’ve been fighting to keep my eyes open all day.

Let’s ask @LSLGuy when he gets back from his lost weekend with BB. He always knows that arcane mystical formatting stuff.

I decided not to walk today. It was just too hot, so I worked around the house.

Tomorrow I’m going to the pet parade with friends. Ms. Dog will be an entrant. She has bat wings to wear. (Pets wear costumes.) However, she doesn’t like them, so she may just wear a bunch of tiny boys.

When facing such decisions, I always ask myself, “WWSD?” (What would swampy do?) You can’t go wrong.

shoe, I’m so sorry. Some people are anuses. I’m angry on your behalf.

My sister loves margaritas. I’m going to call them lime smoothies from now on and will credit, “my friend, Doggio.” My family already thinks I’m odd and will simply assume I’m getting bartending hints from canines.

Correct response: “No matter how much you beg, you are not getting my cranberry.”

Generally, I’d say pilot, but we’ve been having a great time using up all of our COVID vouchers.

Nice quilt, hippie!

Did you know that it’s good luck if a plane shadow touches your car?

(Probably because the plane didn’t land on your car.)

It shouldn’t be, the front porch ceiling is painted haint blue. (That is fairly high on our list of things that must be fixed soon.)

Ick, I hope your house didn’t get too hot.

We’ve been having a heat wave in WV as well. I’m good until around 90 and then the humidity drives me inside. Everyone I’ve talked to has been really suffering and seem to think I think they are weenies because they know how hot it gets in Phx. I always assure them that I’m used to the heat so it makes sense that it isn’t bothering me so much, but I’m going to be pretty whiny come winter.

It certainly does sound like a full day, I hope your daughter recovers painlessly.

You knew where the mess was, cat owners get to find it with their feet.

I’m so sorry that happened to you and I certainly hope it doesn’t happen again. Darn about your SIL’s eye, I hope she stops taking out on your brother soon.

I am furious for you. I hope those thieving assholes hit a big pothole and broke their axle.

I hope your dinner was great and that everyone enjoyed themselves.

Today was a very bad, not good, horrible day. He didn’t really want to come out for breakfast, but I bribed him with a squeezy snack. He hopped up on his bar chair by the window and we were having some cuddle time when an empty train went by. The empty ones squeak and squeal and we don’t have anything to deaden the sound so he goes under the bed because that is the quietest place he can find.

After a while I managed to convince him to come out and we were cuddling again when the plumber knocked on the door. Back under the bed (and I closed the door to help him feel safe in his room. Plus I don’t trust workmen to really watch the doors and not let the cat out.)

Every time we were alone and GG felt safe enough to come out, someone else would knock on the door.

The seller brought the lamps by this afternoon and it was just as I had thought. They were doing such a mad scramble to get stuff out so we could close that they were just grabbing everything and would deal with it later.

A full train just went by and GG stayed out with me and then got spooked by the house creaking. Poor kittyboi is going to be so happy when we have our stuff to muffles all of the noise and echoing.

Are you going for vertical blinds? Due to cats, we have had them in every home we’ve owned. They aren’t the difficult to install, but definitely are a two person job.

Your travels sound delightful, I’m happy you both had such good trips.

Ice cream is a wonderful breakfast, save the cake for second breakie!

And the hits just keep on comin’

Dang that it’s happening on top of everything else, I hope you get a break soon.

W00t!!! You know that it’s serious when they get their stuff, congrats on getting your laundry room back!

I’m sorry you were disappointed, when last I was in Boise, I took Mom to a highly praised museum and we spent less than half an hour inside because it was all Star Wars.

As I recall, I paid 40 each for our tickets.

I hope tomorrow is better.

I adore the t-shirt, did you get it at the event? Your quilt looks amazing and I agree, you aren’t bad yourself

I am very proud of Hubs. He’s stopped for the night and has three hours left to get home. I’m so happy he stopped instead of driving after dark. The roads are dark out this way.

It’s a different dark than the desert, this dark is clustering and confining, the desert dark is filled with bright pinpricks of light in the sky.

We’re doing wood or faux wood horizontals because we’re very close to the neighbors (we are on tiny lots) and need to shift them for both sun and privacy. The patio door will get a roller blind that will remain a foot or two open at the bottom. We won’t have a new brace of cats until spring, so we don’t yet know what their character and behaviors might be.

I apologize to the people I missed, heat, cats, refrigerators, dogs, workplaces, trucks, overstressed FWB, etc. Still catching up.

And thank you. We’ve been having a good time.

Those do sound a little pricey, but also beautiful.

In other news, our home is listed and the Zillow price has dropped three grand since we agreed on the selling price. Just like tucker warned would happen. Happily Hubs has been offline for the last week and hasn’t gotten his daily indoctrination so hasn’t melted down. Yet.

I hadn’t realized how big it was compared to the neighbors until I looked at the virtual tour.

Had an Oh, S-H-I-T moment and ran out to the car. When I was driving home from Kroger, I had opened the moon roof and the windows part way. But then I looked and the windows were still up. I thought I had opened them but maybe not, so then I opened them part way. When I got home, I closed the moon roof and the windows, the front seat windows. When I got out, I noticed that the back seat windows were open. Since there were 4 bags of groceries, 2 of which needed to be put in the frig or freezer, I decided to come back out after everything was put away. Except that I didn’t go back out…until a few minutes ago…an hour or so after Hubs had asked if I had heard it raining (I hadn’t but it had). I finally remembered and ran downstairs to get towels then out to the car. Well, the windows had only been rolled down about 2-3" and there was very slight water in the back seat; easily wiped up, so No Harm, No Foul.

This is what the dog beach that I take Bella to in Chicago has. Oh, also the large park near where our daughter lives also has a dog park within it that has a two-gate entry. Seems to me that this is best practices.

Thanks very much. We spoke and I’ll be going to be with her for the surgery and aftermath. The orthopedic surgeon said that the recovery won’t be as bad as when she totally tore her ACL in the other knee and had to have a replacement (from a cadaver). That was very tough for her. I trust this surgeon greatly as he has been the orthopedic surgeon for the Olympic figure skating team in the past. I’ve met with/talked to him twice; day of surgery and then in his office for daughter’s follow up appointment 4 days later.

I’m sorry that GG is having a tough time with all the new noises but as you say, time will be a great healer as there will be muffling and he’ll get used to the new normal.

I had a real cheeseburger tonight: two 8 oz patties, and two sliced of pepper-jack on a brioche bun, with salad instead of fries. I ate all of the salad, and half of the burger. And two Hemingway daiquiris. And some rum & lime juice, and some wine at home. Mi Esposa had half of a salad, and all of her clam chowder, plus drinks.
