Chillin' in the MMP

Awoke to a refreshing 63° morning - such a relief after 3 days of heat and humidity. It’s a brief respite, but I’ll take it!!!

Happy Moanday!!

Dang - is everyone sleeping in this morning?? I’ve showered and dressed and I’m about to make a run to Food Lion. It’s supposed to reach mid-70s today with rain - I may or may not be able to work in the yard for a bit. There are sticks that need to be raked up. But first, groceries!

Helllloooooooo?!?!? Anybody out there???

Mornin, all. I theory, my brother is coming through to spend the evening on his way back home. But I haven’t heard anything. We shall see.

Now onward! I’ll head over to the shop and build some stuff.

Stay safe, y’all!

Good morning everyone.

It’s about 52 degrees outside and I’ve got the window open and it feels nice. I do believe rain is moving in though.

Yesterday I amended some soil, planted some flowers, did some weeding, did the laundry and packed most of my suitcase. All I need to pack today are my toiletries.

I don’t know how much I’ll be around for the next few days. I leave around noonish today and I think I’m going to be pretty slammed until I get home Thursday afternoon.

I hope you all have a terrific week.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s a balmy 15c/59f here today, and cloudy. The weather app cheerfully tells me “Welcome to today! It’s a grey bucket of suck outside. You’re welcome”. Well, yes, grey and cloudy, and we might get rain later too.

From the last MMP: happy birthday, hippie, I’m sorry I missed the big day itself but you can still celebrate a bit longer!

I’ve had a busy morning, two quite long meetings and some documentation to complete from them both. And our exam session starts today so we’ve been busy checking and re-checking submission sites to make sure everything is ok.

Time for lunch now!

I’m awake-ish, just didn’t have anything to say worth bothering to type.

We’ve got heat warnings this week. According to the more reliable local TV news weatherpeople, we’re expecting to get over 100F (38C) Tuesday and Wednesday.

DO. NOT. WANT.

On the plus side, Quail Fire II is at 85% containment and 135 acres. Golden Fire is at 90% containment (most recent update one day ago). Air quality should be OK. Good thing, since I need to get out to the patio and cope with the ivy takeover.

Pinging other lisinopril users: I’ve had very little energy lately. Is the lisinopril the culprit, or is something else wrong with me?

Morning all. Woke up to rain and it’s supposed to continue for another 3 hours or so. Biggest thing on the list today is to sign my Will at the lawyers’ office at 3:00pm. Also need to try and get to the gym and get back into the routine I was in pre-vacation. Like FCM, the rain has brought some cooling, only getting to 67F today and more rain Wed-Thur will keep it cooler, but the 90’s will be back next week.

Everybody take care now.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN I was a slugabed until just after seven-thirty! :sleeping_bed: ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and rainin’ with a predicted high of 89 and rain for the day. ‘Twill be a good day to stay inside and dry. I predict much sloth on our part today. I yanked a hunk o’ beast outta da freezer yestiddy. In a bit I shall put it in the slow cooker for tonight’s sup. I envision that with N.O.T., baby carrots, baby lima beans, squishes, and rolls. I also put two sticks of N.O.B. out to soften when I arose. I shall make some chawklit-pee-kahn cookies. This will make the spoiled brat happy.

shoe glad you checked in! I hope the crazy busy at irk is a good thing,

Taters be safe on your trip. Hope it’s not to much of a pain. What am I sayin’! It’s an irk trip and those are the definition of PITA.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

You are right, Swampy. I’m not really looking forward to this trip, to be honest. Our preliminary meeting with some of the people we’re meeting was a little uncomfortable because a good many of the people we are meeting feel there are too many barriers to accessing some of our programs. But, this particular effort is mandated and we have to do this. I am hopeful we will be able to provide some assistance. They’ve managed to use a couple of our programs, so we’ll see.

I took lisinopril for some years and I don’t recall energy issues. Then again, meds affect people differently. Some stuff that knocks me out has almost no effect on my spousal unit. Ping your doc…

Just back from a grocery run - choke-gasp-wheeze!!! I avoided buying any meats, except for some deli ham, and my 5 little bags were over $50!!! I feel for those on tight budgets. We’re not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination, but we have enough of a cushion that I don’t have to take in laundry to make ends meet. Still - holy crap on an over-priced cracker!!!

On the good news front, my mom is now covid-neg - she survived her isolation and she’s celebrating by going to see Downton Abbey today. I don’t get the appeal of that show - I watched a couple of seasons and I really, really hated most of the characters. It’s strange, because it’s the kind of program I’d normally like. Oh well…

FCD is out running about but he’ll be home soon. He sounds like crap and I think he’s accepted that he should be chilling today. Sometimes I think he’s his father without the dementia.

OK, time to stow the groceries and break out a rake. Tho all I really want to do is read in my recliner. Adulting sucks.

Taking a breather from the ivy assault, which cannot be completed today anyway, since some of those branches are thick enough that the only tools we own that can handle them are with DH, and by the time he gets home, it’ll be too hot out there for this nonsense.

Doing short bursts of about 10-15 minutes with equivalent recovery time. My lower back hates me. A substantial dose of naproxen and ibuprofen should be hitting the bloodstream soon (it’s in my stomach). I’ve already nearly filled a 13-gallon kitchen trash bag, and I’m only halfway through. I’ll knock off when it gets too hot, I’m still not feeling all that wonderful from last week’s crud.

I told DH Ortho or similar was the best answer, he worries about killing desired plants in the property landscaping outside the patio fence.

Just heard from my brother. Now he’s planning on driving straight through. That’s about a 15 hour drive. I think it’s a terrible idea. But whatever. His choice.

Got the ivy I can hacked out and into the dumpster. Will need DH’s aid on that last thumb-thickness chunk. Futher patio mine-out can wait. We use it basically for additional storage and the cats hang out out there (not together, that I’ve ever seen).

Yes, @swampbear, I’ve heard of kudzu, but ivy’s gotta be pretty close.

Would putting down some mulch help keep the ivy from growing back? I know just about squat about gardening. My goal here is keeping the patio clear from being overrun.

Happy Moonday!

Happy Birthday Hippie!

It’s a nice 56 degrees outside. The house is hot, so opening the door felt good this morning.
No park today as we are heading down to the armpit shortly. We’ll stop at Krispie Kream on the way.

Echo seems to be okay, acting normally for her.
I don’t know what it is with her and Lucy dad. He sometimes has treats, but it’s not the treats really, she adores him. He doesn’t like to be jumped on (who does?) so she will run and jump up on the picnic table where he sits and do a little tap dance while waiting for him.
She never got the memo that Shar Pei are supposed to be stoic and reserved.

Nettie, you could try vinegar mixed with salt and dish soap. It takes a few days but it irks. I don’t remember the proportions, but they are out there online. If you spray vinegar on the leaves, it will kill them but not the roots. If you get some industrial strength vinegar, it will kill just about anything. A whiff of that stuff will burn the hair out of your nose, so be careful with it.

As soon as my son’s clothes get done in the dryer and he reconnects the Ring doorbell, we can leave. I have a package coming from da jungle today, so I want to keep an eye on the front door.

I loathe the smell of vinegar, and I don’t want to discourage Buddy visiting, since that’s one of his approach paths.

You should be able to do it with just salt, water, and a little dish soap.
Killing weeds

Gracious good morning. My plans are the chiropractor, the bank, pick up
prescriptions, then go to the barn. I won’t be riding today. My leg got stuck on the cantle and I have a bruise of epic proportions on my inner thigh. Then I will continue to pack for my retirement/birthday trip. England, here we come!

Best I can advise is putting black plastic over the stump, assuming the area gets sun. The other option is to keep pulling up anything that sprouts till the plant gives up. We has a Paulownia tree that sent runners all over the yard. For several years after the tree had been cut down, I’d find little treelets up to 50’ from the original tree, and I’d yank them out by the roots. It’s been a few years since I’ve seen any, so I’ve won!!

Just finished de-sticking the front yard. Not all the sticks, but all that were bigger around than my finger. The smaller stuff can rot where it is or get eaten up by the mulcher mower. It’s still under 70° and most of the front yard is still in shade, but I’m a rather sweaty mess. Ice water and chillage are on my agenda now.

Been irking for almost an hour and a half. Got some data loaded, so now I’m down to report corrections (creating requests for Business Identification Numbers – BINs – to be merged). That involves going to Secretaries of State sites, looking up businesses, researching other documentation, filling out the requests, and attaching the supporting documents. Some are easy; some are not.

As I said in the other thread, The Missus bought a kayak from a neighbour, and I scrubbed the mildew off of mine. We didn’t paddle over the weekend because the tides were inconvenient and it’s a long walk to the water (and a long drag back) when the tide is out. I need to find my PFD. Not that I need it. If I fall out of the 'yak, I can just stand up. The only time I got dumped was one time when I got sideways in the surf at Venice Beach when I still lived in L.A.

I have been taking it for years. The only side effect I had was the dry, hacking cough that went away after a couple of months.
