So yesterday was May Day(big if you live outside of America)
- Ramadan ends today(big in large chunks of the world)
- Wednesday is Star Wars Day(May the Fourth be with you!)
- Thursday is Cinco De Mayo(provincial Mexican holiday/American Beer Holiday)/“Revenge of The Fifth(Sith)”
- Saturday is The Kentucky Derby
Hijack away!
Well, Allie didn’t even bother with a token hiss when Buddy showed up. They did have a minor “I’m going to swat you” exchange of posturing with no actual aggression. I think the truce is advancing.
Cinco de Mayo is also my older great-nephew’s 4th birthday - surely someone will throw him a parade!
This is to be a very busy week. A week from today, we’ll be in Indianapolis, picking up my inlaws so they can spend a week or so with us. This coming weekend, we have two full days of classes on marine diesel engines, (we’ll head straight from Annapolis to Indy after Sunday’s session) leaving me with only the 5 days of this week to prepare the house. So today I’ll begin in the guest room/Roxy’s room. It’s not too awful - I need to strip and remake the bed, put away a bunch of random toys, stow some yarn, and find a home for the TV that we were going to mount in there, but now we’re not so sure…
Remember when flat-screen TVs were crazy expensive? Now we’ve got three that get used more or less regularly and two that are just sitting. And one of the two is a smart TV, the other needs Roku to stream. We might put one of them on the boat if it’s not too big. Yeah, first world problems.
Anyway, along with cleaning the guest room, I have two big baskets full of dirty laundry. And the dishwasher needs to be emptied. And I have to babysit the grands some time this afternoon while my daughter and SIL go see his surgeon. Busy day ahead.
On the plus side, I think I’m completely over the crud. So I guess that’s something!
Oh, and it’s National Truffle Day!
Happy Moanday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 63 Amurrkin out and waaaaaay foggy with a predicted high of 89 and partly N.O.S. for the day. No big plans for the day at all. Nowhere we need or want to go and no major chores and such need to be done. We shall hone our sloth skills as we need to make sure they do not go lackin’. We shall sup upon beastloaf, steamed cabbage, mac 'n cheese and cornbread.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah,
Happy Moanday Y’all!
Mornin’ all! Not a lot going on, I’m finally (mostly) recovered from that bug, so’s I’ll be heading to the shop to make some stuff. I think my new glasses will be showing up soon. I made the concession that I’m getting old and ordered bifocals.
Onward! Stay safe, y’all!
This is the last Monday I will irk at my professional job. Except I’m not irking. Took today as a vacation day because Ariel is getting her feetz done then I go to the dentist. Farrier will be here at 8 so I couldn’t even sleep in.
Morning all. Up early (for me at least), getting ready to travel Wednesday to Seattle and from there, a cruise up to Alaska. Started laundry immediately this AM as I have a long list of things to do today and tomorrow to be ready to go. Packing list is still being added too (just put alarm clock and umbrella on it) and I’ll still forget something. Forgot in the past 2 years all the joys of traveling for 2 full weeks.
And for lesser holidays, my Brother’s birthday will be on the 9th.
And a Happy Eid al Fitr to you all (I always got 2-3 days off work when I was in Abu Dhabi thanks to Eid)
Glad you’re feeling better, FCM.
swampy, they are predicting 86F today, with a 25 chance of rain.
VanGo, glad you’re feeling better, and bifocals are so yesterday…I have so many focals I don’t know where to start…

OK, do the morning internettin’ then best start checking off things on the list. All y’all take care.
Pfffft - get back to me when you get trifocals, you whippersnapper!
I’ve stripped the guest room bed, and the sheets are in the washer. They’ll go in the dryer because I don’t want to wait for them to dry on the line, but everything else will be hung out. Dishwasher has been emptied and refilling has started. I’m showered and dressed. I just inventoried the crayons I made for Roxy’s party - I think I’ll do one more batch of dinos.
OK, back to work…
PS - there are 71 crayons there.
FCM, those crayons are awesome! I want to draw with them.
Today is a busy day. Garage guy is (allegedly) coming to fix the door, tree guys are coming to remove a dying pine tree outside before is falls on the house and my mom’s oncology appointment is today, which generally means that we’ll be waiting in the doctor’s office for two hours after the blood draw before we actually see him. The guy is really good, but what that means is that the place resembles a cattle call, which seems really inappropriate given how visibly ill many of his patients are. Anyway, I’ll bring my work. I feel like an asshat doing it, but there’s not much else to do.
Hope the garage dude comes today - he’s a bit of a garage savant. He’s awful, awful at scheduling (he was supposed to be here well over a week ago), but he will fix any garage unit in about 20 minutes and it has to be more or less destroyed for him to be unable to do so. And his price is usually really reasonable.
Hope everyone has a magnificent day.
Found out last night that we have at least two good offers on the house. We’ll meet with the realtor this afternoon. It’s a big relief, I can tell you. For those who were asking in the prior MMP, yes, real estate prices really are that high here and we live in a very desirable neighborhood with high walking and biking scores. We’re not buying another house when we move, so all that cash will be used for other things, including school costs for grandkids. Assuming the offers stand up, we’re really glad that it’s over so we’re not stressing every day.
Very short heaving today. Even with an Aldi stop I was home by 9.
Why not, what are they gonna do, fire you?
And happy Pedi-Pedi Day for Ariel.
Nifty crayons, FCM.
Happy Moanday all. Day 2 of a short 4-day irk week comin’ up. I expect it to be a fairly mellow day. We shall see.
Cookie, great news on the house! I figured it would sell quickly.
MetalMouse, safe travels! Mrs W and I have been talking about an Alaska cruise for years, but still haven’t done it. (Alaska is the only US state in which I have never set foot, and I ain’t getting any younger.) Enjoy!
Progressives are where it’s at - I’ve got infinite focals!
Back from grocery - OMG, the prices are insane! $72 for 5 small bags of groceries, tho to be fair, there were 3 pounds of lunch meats and close to 5# of ground beef - I need to make sketty sauce and meatloaf. Still, choke-gasp-wheeze!!!
Thanks. I just melted crayolas in some silicone ice trays - 200° for about 15 minutes. Then pop them out when they’re cool. I hope the kidlets like them. My daughter is going to have them decorate their own goody bags, then fill them with stuff, including these crayons.
Just for comparison, this is down the street from me. I’ve linked to it before - it’s been on the market for-freekin’-ever because this is not a $650K neighborhood and the house is waaaaaaay bigger than any others. For example, our house is just over 1600 sq ft over a full basement, also on 3 acres, and I doubt we could get more than $350K on a good day. That’s why I choked when I saw your list price.
Definitely - mine are progressives, but I think in terms of near-mid-far vision because I’m all empirical and stuff.
Second load just went out on the line, third load in the washer, first will come out of the dryer as soon as I’m done here. Then I’ll finish with the guest bedroom.
Busy busy…
Do progressive lenses count?
Let’s see, turned calendar page (forgot to do it yesterday), changed HVAC filter, ran shredder lubricant sheet and various appliance cleaning thingies. Awaiting Instacart.
Our broker thought we should ask more, but it made me balk. I’d rather start lower and let buyers bid it up than get zero offers. As it was, the $650K made me gulp. We paid about $350K for it 12 years ago, which I thought was a lot.
Laundry is done for today, apart from taking everything off the lines and folding. That’s a chore for later this afternoon. Meanwhile, the guest room is ready for guests. I even dusted and vacuumed in there! We left the electric blanket on, just in case, because if you don’t turn it on, it’s just a blanket, right?
Lessee, what now? I’m taking a water break. I guess making meatloaf and sketty sauce is next on the agenda. After a break.
FCD is at the boat. I hate when he goes by himself to work in the engine room - I worry that he’ll get stuck. If it gets too late, I may go down there myself. But that’s for later. He’d have a fit if I showed up and there was no problem. I guess it’s a guy thing.
May 4 is also the anniversary of the 1886 Haymarket Riot in Chicago. The event led to the creation of 1 May as an international workers’ day, ironically just about everywhere EXCEPT the US. Coincidentally, May 4 is the day of the Kent State Massacre of 1970. So if you’re a lefty, a socialist, a communist, an anarchist, be careful out there this Wednesday!
Better to look at the world with a progressive lens than a reactionary lens!
Ariel’s feet are done, kittens had their morning feed, dentist said I have oral thrust from my inhaler. Lunch is et. Final episodes of “my show” are on Acorn plus I got a DVD from the liberry. But I think I’ll take a nap……
Progressives, trifocals, bifocals are for amateurs. Get back to me when you’ve had cataract surgery. I love not having to wear glasses.
