Happy (Lesser)Holidays - A Festive MMP

My eye doc says about 5 more years for me…

{{{Bumba}}} - he was a cutie.

I’ve got a biiiiig batch of sketty sauce simmering away and I made one large and 2 smaller meatloaves which are in the freezer. The kitchen is a mess - I’ll clean it later. In about 50 minutes, I need to head to the playground in Leonardtown to watch my grands while SIL goes for a followup appointment for his knee. Daughter is going with him. The weather is gorgeous, so the place should be full of kids.

That gives me a little time to chill.

Aw, Bumba. Sorry about Vinnie. I know he was a good boy.

I’m so sorry. He was a cutiepie and obviously well loved.

So soory, Bumba.

{{Bumba}}. Bet he was a ball of energy when young. It doesn;t seem fair that dogs don’t live as long as we do.

FCM, enjoy the kid-duty. And love those crayons.

Kropotkin, I attended Kent State from 1971-76, so that place and time is very well known to me.

Wheelie, this will be my second Alaska cruise. It’s usually quite scenic and if the stops aren’t exactly…cosmopolitan, they are adventurous. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Cookie, looks like you’ll be in good shape once the deal is done. And taking care of the grandkids is awful nice–but take care of yourself, too.

talkie, hope the garage wizard was able to work his magic.

Three loads of laundry done, TruGreen aerated the lawn, phone and laptop are fully charged and Garmin has been updated. Hair has been cut rather short (and I don’t have much up there to start with), but it looks OK and will last quite a while. Had time to go swimmin’ and since it is the last swim before my trip, did a mile (1,760 yards) in about 65 minutes. Still have a soccer goalie class to teach in about 2 hours, so hopefully I’ll recover in time for that. Weighed myself before getting dressed and scale said 286.2 lbs. Stepped on it after dressing and in my shoes and it said 290.2, so life tip folks; only weigh yourself nekkid…

DH carries something like 20lb of pocket/belt luggage (weighed it once). You cannot get an accurate weight on him when he’s dressed to be in public.

Awwwww…bumba, I’m sorry about Vinnie. He was a handsome boy.

doggio, you forgot about Sunday being mother’s day.

Squee! Cute kittens jane the cane.

metal mouse, you can take your alarm clock out of your bag. Your phone should suffice (even my 84 year old father has figured out how to set his).

VanGo, I’m with Moooooom, come back when you get into trifocals. :stuck_out_tongue:

Irked, came home, et and fixing to do KP. I live such an exciting life! :stuck_out_tongue: My nose has been runny all day, despite my sinuses being stuffed up. Darn tree pollen.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Howdy Y’all! As predicted today has been somewhat slothful. I did do some de weedin’ around the storage buildin’s but did not exactly tax myself in the process. Sup got cooked and et, so there’s that. Also, I think I upgraded my handbasket today. Got an email from the head of the Altar Guild statin’ that she would be takin’ wine and wafers to be blessed by a Priest so we can have Communion from Reserved Sacraments this comin’ Sunday. She stated that she would be takin’ two cups of wine in a Mason jar to make transportin’ it easier. I have giggled waaaaaay too much over the thought of Sacramental Wine in a Mason jar. I have also pictured placin’ the jar on the Altar Sunday as well as offerin’ it to folks in the jar. Sometimes my mind goes to places it just should not go.

VanGo glad you are mostly recovered. Bifocals are not so bad once you get use to them. Goin’ down steps and stairs is still a little weird to me for some reason. I really have to pay attention to that. However, that is most likely due to my genetically inherited klutziness.

WetOne just think, next Moanday you will be able to get up, get coffee, and then go stand in your driveway and point and laugh at all the suckers goin’ to irk.

MetalMouse happy list makin’.

MOOOOOOM you got mad crayon makin’ skillz!

Wordy hope garage dude shows up today. Don’t feel guilty irkin’ while at your mom’s appointment. It is not a bad thing to do while just sittin’ and waitin’.

Cookie yay for the good offers! I am sure the offer you take will make that person very happy to be the new owner of Chez Cookie.

{{{Bumba}}} I read about Vinnie over on the book of faces. So sorry for your loss. He looks like such a sweetheart.

Grandkid duty was short and sweet. SIL’s healing is continuing apace - the doc is pleased. SIL is impatient…

We had sketties for supper since the sauce was already cooked. Once the big pot cools a bit more, I’ll bag sauce for the freezer. Between that and the meatloaf, I’ve got 2 meals with the inlaws covered! Actually, I’ve got pretty much all of them covered - I won’t need to buy any meats, but I’ll probably need to get fresh produce at some point.

Laundry is off the line, folded, and in the bedroom. I put mine away, FCD will do his whenever. Once I get the dishes done, I’m done for today.

you know they have gyms and pools on cruises now right? :stuck_out_tongue:

ha! Swampy I don’t know if you’ve seen it but this weekend there was a video making the rounds of a younger teen throwing her first communion back like she was Pro taking shots at the local college dive on ladies’ night …

swampy, iff’n you use a mason jar for the wine, have you considered biscuits for the host? :jumps into handbasket:

shady, plan to take some stuff for the gym, but I doubt even the largest cruise liners have 25-yard lap pools…and with 2,000 passengers, probably wouldn’t get much chance to use it. And they are mostly outside and Alaska… :astonished:

Swampy, re: Mason Jars and Wine; you have an evil mind…one of the things I like about you…

red, you’re probably right on the alarm, but I’ll take the old alarm with me because I’m an old fogie that way…

Well, we got a nasty storm roll through about a half-hour ago, so glad I didn’t have my walk today. Got a note from my Edward Jones guy, he was going to mail me something to sign, but since I’ll be on vacation soon, I asked if I could stop by tomorrow and sign. we’ll see what he says. Also checked my water bill and it was incredibly high…normally I use 1100-1200 gallons of water per month, they charged me for 5,300 this time! If I was using that much water, the house would be floating away. Will go down there tomorrow and try to puzzle it out (added to list).

At least all the laundry is folded and put away.

All y’all have a good evening now.

We signed papers this afternoon, so barring any crazy shit, the place is sold.

Congrats, cookie!

swampy Are you sure it’s “wine” in the mason jar?

WTH, it’s 8 PM and I’m ready to go to bed. Didn’t do much today, only 250 or so feet of ash through the table saw and some fabrication, but I’m tired. I think I’m still battling the bug.

First of the month, and the datalanche has begun.

In addition to that, I loaded and ran the dishwasher, put the dishes away, cleaned the toilet, made a mediocre cheeseburger on low-carb bread, moved cars around, cleaned the stove, and took a walk. Mrs. L.A. had popcorn for dinner. I’ve just finished a salad with Romaine lettuce, the rest of Mrs. L.A.'s rib-eye steak I made a week and a half ago, a hard-boiled egg, tomato, cheddar cheese, Kalamata olives, and blue cheese dressing.

@swampbear

From the Roger miller song:

Grape wine in a Mason jar
Homemade and brought to school
By a friend of mine ‘n’ after class
Me and him and this other fool decide

That we’ll drink up what’s left
Chug-a-lug, so we helped ourself
First time for everything
Hmm, my ears still ring

Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug
Make you want to holler hi-de-ho
Burns your tummy, don’tcha know?
Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug

Happy Moonday!

We had a wet morning at the park, no rain, but everything was still soaked from the rain over night.
Barky came, so Lucy went to the small dog’s side.

I am so tired tonight. I was up past 11 last night and woke at 4am.
I was talking with my mother and she is wavering about chemo. Then she was worried about the dog. Cerby got into the trash and ate a chicken bone, then threw it up. He was acting very lethargic. I said check his mouth and see if his gums are pink or white, with white indicating internal bleeding. Niece2 was on her way home from grandnephew2’s bd party. I was texting her the emergency clinic information and directions, my mother called my sister to take her (ex-bf needed the car to go to irk). We had everything ready for when she got home, only to find out she had given the dog part of an edible. Cerby wasn’t sick, he was stoned.
You’re not supposed to give edibles to dogs.

Boo, I just dropped my health insurance with the state. Now that I am getting Medicare, I’m not eligible for a subsidy anymore. I’m still going to call them to see if there is anything else I can get, and I need to call CareFirstBluseCrosShield, as they sent me a letter telling me they have Medigap plans.

Sunny, I think a hat would be nice, thank you. I talked with my mother tonight and she is thinking about backing out. She had to have a blood test today and they took the blood from the port. She said it was very painful. She’s not going to deal well with pain, I think she really just doesn’t want to go through chemo. I told her to try it, and if it is more than she can handle, then quit. My sister and Niece1 and pushing her to go through with it.

Congrats on the sale Cookie. Nice house, but for $650,000 you could get
this
for $630,000. There aren’t a whole lot of houses for sale over $600,000 around here.
I drive by it when I take my son to irk, and every time I see it, I think, I want that house. Then it went up for sale.
It is way out of my price range, and way more house than I need.

Have a safe and fun trip MetalMouse

{{{Bumba}}}

and now off to bed, I’m so tired I’m feeling sick.

Glad to hear you are pursuing insurance so you can get good care. We need you around for forever! The nice thing about the State Health Insurance Assistance Programs is that it is very customized to you, unbiased and they aren’t trying to sell you anything. Mine was so helpful to me when I was aging out of ACA and into Medicare. Helped me make good decisions that fit my situation. Your state SHIP program will know what’s available in your state. The best policies/plans the companies like BC/BS sometimes won’t tell you about because they aren’t as profitable. I lucked into a Medigap plan that was so good for the cost that BC/BS doesn’t offer it anymore (but I’m grandmothered in).

And @JohnT ’s threads on the Dope are worth looking up. He makes it all understandable and demystifies the options. May the force be with you :vulcan_salute:t2:

May Day texting with my darling younger son yesterday I found out he was stuck at home with Covid-had to quarantine instead of going on his Grand Canyon vacation with his fiancée. She got it first. He couldn’t even change it to sick time from vacation time the way the powers that be run his fellowship. He had it all planned to romantically propose and present her with the ring in the grandeur of the Grand Canyon. I feel for them. It’ll be a long haul for them til he’s eligible for vacation time again. He may have to put the ring in the toe of her running shoe and ask her if she wants to go for a run in the lesser grandeur of Ann Arbor. I know that a week in he was still sick enough that he didn’t trust himself driving himself to work today.

Chipolte cheese burger with fried and Elotes. Bruins lose tonight.

I’m so sorry. {{{{Bumba}}}}

Bumbazine, I am so sorry about Vinnie. He was a handsome dog, I like the whiskers.

There are two poems by Kipling about the life of a dog, This one, titled “His Apologies” is good. It’s first phrase, “Master, this is Thy servant” is carved on the small headstone for my dog Nathan, at the pet cemetery.
