(Old) OK, I’ll Start the MMP

Good morning.

It’s 39F and cloudy outside. It’ll be cloudy early, but we’ll get peeks of sunshine later and daytime high of 45F.

Loved the picture of Otis, FCM.

JtC, hope all remains quiet today. Be safe.

Shoe, that poor guy.

I slept pretty late today. I was lying on the couch watching TV last night when a nasty headache and nausea came along. I went to bed, but opted to sleep in the spare room. Mr. Taters checked on me around 4:30 this morning, but I opted to sleep a little longer, and he fed the pups. I feel fine today, albeit a little wrung out, almost like a mild hangover.

I think I’ll take it easy today. I may do a load or two of laundry, but I’m not going to stress if it doesn’t get done.

Alrighty, time for a little more coffee and then I’ll get the day properly started.

I’m in a mood today. I may go back to bed. I may not. I don’t feel like doing anything.

My day is off to a surreal start. Woke up earlier than I needed/wanted to, got started on my usual Mt. Dew Zero Sugar to start the day, went over to open the patio blinds (weather guessers are calling icky weather starting this afternoon, extending through Wednesday, might as well enjoy a clear sunny morning while it’s there).

Buddy and Kasya were right there - just in time to see an orange shorthair cat on the patio fence, wearing a black collar. Buddy wears a black harness, Kasya has a black breakaway collar (she’ll get a harness when she’s bigger).

I checked at least twice to make sure my correct two orange cats were present and accounted for, then took a longer look at the third. Usual orange tabby, no visible white markings so looked similar to Buddy, but seemed a little smaller and when he turned so that I got a view of his back end, it was very clear he’s not neutered (both his ears are intact as well). Looked a bit younger than Buddy, but definitely adult.

Good thing he’s wearing a collar, indicating he already has a home, since the UCDS needs to understand that we’re currently maxed out on cats.

@BippityBoppityBoo I want to thank you so much for so carefully explaining why it is so important to keep healing wounds covered. I’ve been trying to tell Hubs to keep his owies covered and he insists that they need air to scab over right.

He had a big patch of skin cancer removed from the back of his hand last week and it has finally stopped bleeding so he told me that he was going to start leaving it uncovered. I went back to your posts and links and made him read them. His wound is now covered again and he says he will probably keep it covered until the stitches come out.

Thank you so much!

Up and churched. Mrs Magill are sitting in the Starbucks across the street from church, while Squeaky is in youth. He feels awkward in youth, because he’s one of the few high schoolers, but the youth minister has asked for more older kids to come in. She also needs volunteers for pancake dinner Tuesday, and Squeaky needs volunteer hours for National Honor Society.

I just sent him the application for NC State engineering camp. Mrs Magill and he will work on that tomorrow. I’m hoping he considers State next year. Of all our children, he’s the most likely to get good scholarships.

At home now, replacing the light fixture in the closet. A new LED fixture was actually cheaper than replacing the ballast in the old florescent fixture. It’ll be nice to not get dressed in the dark.

Went just fine. walked in and were immediately seated at a table for six. I had a breakfast burrito that was the size of a torpedo. Came back and yakked at the apartment for several hours. They brought a nice Valentine’s gift of pączki, which are Polish jelly donuts.

It’s already up to 49F. We’ll have some weather moving in about mid-week, but this is a really nice break.

Got the laundry done despite an uncooperative washer. There is an issue with the drain pipe, so the washer fills up with water but can’t get rid of it. Had to haul a heavy, soggy pile of bed linens out of it and stick it in another machine, so our usual two-hour laundry day turned into three by the time everything was dry. Anyway, all folded and stuffed in respective closets and on with what’s left of the day.

Now I can tell the difference between my navy blue and black slacks.

I cleaned and dusted. I put the new vac and lamp together. I vacuumed. It sucked. I took out the trash and recycling. It has been raining all afternoon.

Yeah, even with the rain tires. I did watch a couple of laps before switching to Olympic hockey.

As do I. :wolf:

Thank you so much for letting me know. Sometimes I worry that I’m a less than welcome naggy cranky night nurse voice hollering into the wind.

When we were kids that is what we were taught but then we also used to put that nasty mercurochrome on cuts which not only stung like heck but also is now known to destroy every potentially healing skin cell it touches.

Thanks, dear heart-glad you led hubs into the light. Next we will entice him out of the wilderness and into vaccination civilization. Probably ought to expect that will take some time.

I got one pair of PJ pants hemmed today and will hem the other tomorrow. I made chicken cassoulet for supper and it was yum! I nuked some broccoli and dressed it with olive oil and lemon juice for the side. I’m looking forward to leftovers on this one.

Your advice and knowledge is always welcome! {{{{Booo}}}

Back in my slaughterhouse days we all had aerosol cans of Mercurochrome in our lockers. The equipment cage guy handed them out or free

Today I read selections from my poem at the launch of the anthology in which it appears.

Done with draft 3 of the novel. Now doing the line by line proofreading round. I should be able to get my Catalogue-in-Publishing data block this week, and format the thing.

So today being National Wisconsin Day, I had a Wisconsin Old Fashioned for cocktail hour. Along with poke loin, sweet N.O.T., and cheesy broccoli. Watching Sweden/US men’s curling. The hair eyebrows, and yellow team shirt of the one Swedish layer is giving off a Captain Pike vibe.

Also:

Nah. We value your nurse knowledge.

I read that as PJ pants helmet
< grabs another Wisconsin Old Fashioned >

Cool.

Eye aim sure u spelt the wurds rite.

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated and got the place all ready for Lent. OYKW helped with movin’ all the big, heavy brass stuff. While we were at it, the weather sirens sounded off twice and we had to shelter. Each time the all clear sounded in less than five minutes. I also recorded one of the Stations of The Cross . One was saved for me which made me happy cause I wanted to do one. AIUI this will be available on the youtube channel durin’ Lent for folks who want to do it from the comfort of their home or some such. I also filled out the application form to reup my lay minister’s license so I can keep on bein’ Verger and Chalice Administrator. This must be done every three years. We drove back to da cave in heavy rain. Once we got there all I wanted was to get comfy, eat a sammich and achieve nappage. We heated up leftovers for sup. Tomorrow night is men’s night over to the church house thus steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. Also, the biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow.

Taters hope you’re feelin’ better today.

He would be the third generation of Magill to go.

You can be really silly at times, ya know that? You are a valued resource, not only do you know the right answer, you explain it in terms that not-medically trained people can understand. Plus…you are just an all around good person and we love you.

It rained all morning and early afternoon here today. It did stay under 50 so it didn’t get steamy when the sun came out.

Thanks for the safety wishes, I do appreciate them. Things were calm but there were also a couple of vans full of armed and masked men watching us. This frightened some of us and pissed others off. It is worrisome that both sides are armed now. We will probably be back tomorrow. What better way to celebrate Presidents Day, right?

Is it silly if I confess that hand sewing clothing is my least favorite chore? I’d rather take the trash out than hem a pair of pants.

Mom didn’t use that on us, but the neighborhood moms felt free to spray any scrapped knees they saw. Mom used stingy foamy peroxide and would keep pouring it on our owies until it stopped foaming. Good times.

I’m sure that more happened than that. Did people clap? Smile? Nod their heads? Throw rotten produce? Dish, we wanna know!

So besides spending the afternoon at the capital, James wanted to stop at two thrift stores while we were in Charleston. He bought a handful of paperbacks while I looked at the wall art. Mostly I was looking at the frames but I did stop and look twice at a wooden framed piece made out of gears. If I could have figured out a place on our walls to hang it, it would have followed me right home.

It was wet and chilly at the capital so I brought James home to drink some loaded hot chocolate (thanks for the recipe Nelson’s Mom, I use it on the regular) and warm up in front of the space heater.

The marinara sauce I had going in the crockpot was ready so we fed James before taking him and a container of leftovers back to the old farts home.

The space heaters are doing a great job of keeping the central part of the house warm and the temps are going up so they will not have to work so hard if furnace parts need to be ordered. The heat pump guy seemed to think it was a relay which makes us hopeful that it will be a fairly inexpensive fix.

I love it! Of course I love all of your cartoons, but this one is my current favorite!

I’m also cracking up over the curling scandal. It seems to me as though there was more outrage over a Canadian using a bad word like that than the actual boop.

He’s a very nice guy, you should clean the ceiling fans to show your appreciation tonight!

That sounds rather worrisome. Do you have a nice place to shelter? And why? Hurricanes?

Well, I need to deal with the towels that somebody didn’t put in the dryer and then get my uniform washed so I can iron it in the morning so off I go.

Have a great evening and safe nights everyone.

Evening all and I am home safe and (moderately) sound. Left for soccer at 1:30pm and didn’t get home until 7:35pm, so I guess you could call it an active day. Have re-hydrated and re-caloried since returning, so should make it a reasonable sleepage hour. Skies are still cloudy but the rain is gone and tomorrow should be in the mid-60’sF so there is that to look forward too.

FCM, need to borrow your motivator, except for gym and soccer I don’t get much else accomplished and there are some things that need doing before the end of March, so I think I need to make a list to motivate me.

Taters, hope you continue to feel OK.

Wet one, do what you want and if that’s nothing, hey, it works for me…

Nettie, apparently word is getting around the Orange Feline community about you folks.

JtC, I really hope things remain peaceable at the protests. And good for Hubs actually listening to good advice.

Maus, hoping things go well for Squeaky on the engineering front.

Cookie, sounds like a filling meal, and you probably needed the protein to haul all those soggy linens around.

lily, not sure I would have the nerve to recite my works (if I had any) to a bunch of other folks. Awaiting notice of your novel printing date with anticipation.

Swampy, glad the weather alerts didn’t lead to anything serious. Looks like all we had was some rain showers, nothing heavy or thundery.

Can’t recall Mom ever using Mercurchrome on us kids, she was fond of dousing our owies with Hydrogen Peroxide, I think I still have a bottle in the bathroom cabinet.

And it’s 8:30pm here and I have doubt to how much longer I’ll stay awake, so take care all and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.

Thanks for asking! There were a lot of people there, both to read and to listen. Mine is one of the more literary pieces in the anthology, which is often the case. There was clapping, and there were positive comments afterward. No produce, though soe people did have coffee with them.

In 9th or 10th grade, I started recording myself reading on a cassette tape so I could improve my delivery. I think I started giving public readings at 15. I enjoy reading my work to others.

When the novel exists, I’ll let you know. This evening, I began the Amazon KDP publishing set-up and the paperwork to order the Catalog-in-Publishing block for the front. I still need to finish proofreading, then format the MS to meet KDP specifications for paperback and ebook styles.

Is this a state license? Does it also mean that you can perform weddings and such?

Mine too! And I’m totally ok with doing embroidery, cross stitch or needlepoint.
