(Old) On this day in history in the MMP

I’m still thinking it might be worth it.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/58f with a predicted high of 21c/70f and cloudy. Weather app says “If this fucking weather was a soup, it would be Broccoli Fart Chowder with fucking Corn and Bacon” - doesn’t sound all that bad, does it? It’s cool and cloudy, there’s some drizzly rain but it’s going to brighten up later. I am enjoying the cool and damp part of the day.

Looks that way, doesn’t it? Actually works for me, I am a creature of habit so campus food is largely the same kind of thing every week - chicken, rice and veggies. I bake the chicken in a bag of spice mix at some point in the day so it’s already done by the time I log out of work. The rice is frozen steamed bags from the supermarket so that just needs a few minutes in the microwave, then it’s whatever veg is left in the crisper or in the freezer. Breakfast is always overnight protein oats (easy to make, easy to transport). Then grocery shopping involves buying the stuff I will need for the next week’s campus stuff!

Gold star for you!

Turning around also means the potential to trip over a lurking cat, so definitely a good way to avoid unnecessary injuries.

That’s good to hear, can’t have a limping ref on the pitch!

I hope you’re feeling a bit more sorted today! You’ve got plans, and important stuff to be doing, no time for health woes in there

We do ours with an online form, works very well for us although it’s not quite first come, first served but it’s close. Then they get an opportunity at the start of term to change modules, but only in the first week or two.

Ouch! Hope the resting etc works and you’re soon scampering around again.

Do you look good in orange? Also, the food’s rubbish!

There’s nothing much in my day today apart from chasing around for marks, feedback and other student-related things. I have no meetings in the diary which is a good thing. The over-stimulated team manager has clearly already had more than enough caffeine - she’d just got through the office door before she told the two of us about her week off, her shopping trip, why she can’t buy the kind of coat she wants, why she can’t carry a 20L backpack, why she can’t get proper serious hiking boots to fit her, and asked us whether we think it’s a good idea to completely re-do the pigeonholes we use for staff post. That’s in the first 10 minutes of her day. I may be joining Lily in a nice orange jumpsuit.

FCD has asked me to make salsa. There are a gazillion recipes on line, but if you have a particularly good one, please share it. Not too hot, but not bland either (is bland salsa possible?) Thanks!

I have several alarms set to remind me to pick up Roxy today. Tobias is going to Annapolis to see a pediatric cardiac specialist about his heart murmur. I’m only a little bit worried - my aunt had one and she lived to be almost 70, and medicine is much better today than in her day. But still, one frets a bit.

I’ve got a thorn or splinter in my right index finger - FCD will have to remove it for me. He’s going to love that - he’s a surgeon at heart! It’s almost at the crease of the first knuckle and it hurts like crazy. Obviously my garden gloves didn’t help yesterday. Dammit.

Since I’ll be gone most of Firday and Saturday, I need to pace my laundry over a couple-few days. I’ll see if I have enough to do a load today. Or maybe I’ll wait till tomorrow since I don’t have to leave till 4-ish to pick up the kids. Must consider the options.

It’s another glorious 62° morning - we’ve slept 2 nights with windows open, and we may have 2 more before the heat returns. I wonder when autumn will settle in. I’ve had quite enough of summer, thanks.

OK, time to read the rest of my morning surfage. Happy Wednesday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 93 and N.O.S. for the day. Today we shall venture out amongst the great unwashed twice. Provisions shall be procured this mornin’ and then for sup we shall go to Sonny’s as they have a special on their St. Louis style ribs and OYKW has declared he has a gnawin’ and a cravin’. Fortunately nappage can be achieved between the two outside activities, which will enable me to steel my reserve and leave da cave twice in one day.

WetOne hope your ankle is feelin’ better today.

Lily if you do, then you have to find a place to bury the body, dig a deep hole, and all that. Is this relative worth all that effort and energy?

BooFae hmmm… it would be a much harder task to come up with a reason you should not murder OSTM.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. How I suffer!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Good morning all. Hump day and outside of the Braunschweiger Run a little later this morning (once schools at the 9am work traffic has subsided) nothing much else on the agenda. Have pilled and had an apple so things are good. 73F heading to 87F later, with a 1-in-5 chance of showers.

lily, while there are reasons some folks need killin’, it will get you talked about in polite society…and even worse, you might not be able to post to the MMP.

JtC, yeah, Sky Harbor can be pretty bad. Worse for me is Charles DeGaulle in Paris, for various reasons.

Herald, look at it as good practice for the real thing.

boo fae, thanks for the reminder, my region doesn’t start it’s games until next weekend, but some others will be playing so need to check and see if I can get a game or two in.

FCM, best wishes for Toby; my niece had heart surgery when she was only two weeks old and is now nearing 30 and is a PhD graduate. And happy thorn removal!

Onward! Have a good Hump day all.

On the plus side, you could tell everyone you live in a gated community and have staff to prepare your meals!

I understand and feel your pain. It’s hitting 103F and beyond here in Tejas, and I have been contemplating my out of control shrubbery (especially at the higher level on the other side of the little path  ). I looked at how high it was, thought about the ladders, and then about my birthdate (before there were man-made objects in space), and decided to call the pros and stay inside. Wife agrees and didn’t want me operating powered cutting equipment because…

I’m on new meds for the nerve damage in my left shoulder/arm and am supposed to curtail all risky activities until we know the ultimate effects. Right now I’m having no problems but will graciously accept the limitations that keep me inside binging sci fi instead of doing yard work. However, we differ on the dangers of loading the dishwasher… Sigh.

On to more light-hearted stuff: You may remember that we encountered a coyote in the yard, and (new dog) Lucy’s reaction was to happily run over to play with it. Lucy fears nothing and views all other animals as potential playmates. But…

I took her out on a leash yesterday before dawn to do her business. As we walked out she began growling fiercely at the dark bushes at the far edge. She growled louder and then turned and pulled us both back inside! No idea what was there, but decided to accept her opinion and stay inside. She intensely investigated that spot afterward, but I have no idea what it was.

I also wish to share the amazing events in our neighborhood, according to Nextdoor. This is an exact quote of what I received late yesterday evening, punctuation, spelling, caps and all:
GO OUTSIDE THERE R OVER 13 SPHERE ORBS WITH ELETRIC RINGS DANCING UP AND DOWN AROUND THEM LIKE A PLASM BALL WITH 2 OTHER SPERES ON EACH END THEY LOOK PLIKE A LINE OF 2 LIGHTS THARE ARE SURRPUNDING PUS IN TX!

My first thought was: Over 13? By how much? Were there 14? 30? 500 and you got tired of counting? I need details, man.

Some time before that, I received the following pair of posts (again, re-created exactly):
some keep breaking my gate they left open i put a lock on it and at the lock on it and they broke its reforge with two lock and they try again one put warning site on gate ok some body going to get shot and I going to jail RIP

Followed immediately by:
Anybody else just hear that sequence of loud bangs?

With Nextdoor, I don’t need comedy shows.

Hope everyone has a good week, back later.

wow, i wonder what lucy sensed in the shrubbery. always follow the dog’s advice!

the furniture reshuffle hit a snag last night. originally i had an armchair in the living area, i moved it to the bedroom. koritza enjoys sleeping in it.

i have decided to move it back to the living area as koritza is no longer sleeping on it (she now likes a pillow on the chest of drawers).

i tried to move it out of the bedroom for at least 15 minutes to no avail. of course “pivot” was on a loop in my head. the chair thwarted all pivots, manhandling, pushing, shoving, and exhortations. i gave up and left the chair by the door. i will attempt it later tonight.

the only reason i still have this chair is because koritza really likes it. she loves sleeping across the back of it.

So I was in Smalls all morning. SSLAW #1 broke so bad that the Technomage’s Apprentice had to replace it with the backup broken SSLAW. I got gas for Carmen on the way home, and when I walked into the apartment, spot walk up and sat down with his back to me.
Me: “What now?”
Spot, turning his head around: “I can’t hear you over the sound of my shunning.”
Me: “dude I’m not even late.”
Spot: “SHUUUUUUUUUUNNNN!.”

Try the stuff made in New York City.

As do we. {{{{FairyChats}}}}

Translation: I washed my meds down with a quart of Jack Daniel and 2 magic mushrooms

I made this and FCD had a big bowl of it for lunch. He said he could eat it all day, so I’m guessing it’s a keeper. I’m not one for salsa, so I’ll take his word for it.

MIL’s aide has been here and gone. FCD is headed to the dentist in the further adventures of replacing a back molar. I’ll be leaving around 4 to pick up Roxy and bring her here.

When I was going to Food Lion, MIL asked me to “bring me those mints.” Um, OK, what mints? Lifesavers? Peppermint patties? Starlite mints? No, she wanted the ones like you get at Olive Garden - Andes. Them suckers are $$$ at Food Lion - I’ll try to find a cheaper source.

So that’s the excitement of my day so far…

Wishing everyone “good morning” from my BFFs’ dining room table! Last night’s setup went pretty smoothly, except that I forgot to bring a power strip. But, that’s why I got set up yesterday instead of waiting until early this morning. Today, I remembered to bring everything…except my work phone. :woman_facepalming: I didn’t realize it until I’d gotten here, at which point it would have been a 1-hour round trip to go get it. Luckily, I don’t need it while I’m working.

On my way here I had to go to the grocery store for protein shakes (I have at least two every day because of being post-gastric-bypass): I have them on auto-delivery from Amazon, and the next two cases were supposed to arrive on Monday…then they were going to arrive by 10pm yesterday…now they’re not arriving until Saturday. Amazon says there’s bad weather somewhere along the delivery chain. I ran out yesterday, so I grabbed more this morning…enough to get me through Monday, just in case!

This house/neighborhood is much quieter than mine. So far today Wife BFF has kept to her home office upstairs – I let myself in when I arrived, and haven’t seen or talked to her yet; she’ll come down for lunch – and I don’t even hear her moving around. Sometimes the noise at home (construction, barking) is annoying, but the silence here was so disconcerting that I had to fire up SiriusXM on my iPad.

In other news, I already miss my doggy. Wife BFF definitely would have let me bring her, but (a) Bailey doesn’t like car rides anymore and has never been a fan of new places (even less so now, in her dotage), and (b) there are two cats here.

Huh! Some of the hotels around the airport near where I grew up wouldn’t rent to anyone under the age of 25, for that reason*, but I guess your “grownup” locals are rowdier than ours were.

*My friends and I might have been guilty of a hotel party or two back in the day…

So you’re the one on the other end of the voodoo doll I found last Halloween!

No. May I bring you a shovel?

Of course!

“Friends help you move; Good friends help you move the body.”

Yanker, a man has to know his limitations, and being out on a ladder with nerve damage and age (I was 4 when Sputnik was launched) is probably a limit you should respect. And don’t know what Lucy reacted to, but good on you to trust her instincts. And one of the nice things here in the MMP is that people can write coherently (of course when doggio does some serious drinking…

Rocky, it is amazing how many items seem to get into the house easily enough but are impossible to move around or out of the house.

FCM, I’ll be going to Olive Garden for the Sunday Dinner, should I try and get a few extra mints?

Oopsie, enjoy the peace and quiet.

Had a brain fart this morning, was at the grocery store on my Braunschweiger run and picked up a few additional things, paid, loaded the car, came home…and discovered I had left the bag with the Braunschweiger at the store! So 15 miles back over there, fortunately they had found it and put it back in the cooler, so all is well, just an hour or so extra on the chore. Glad I only have to do that every 5-6 weeks or so…

Of to the swimming here in a little bit, no rush as there is no soccer practicing today and my ESPN show at 4:30 is on hiatus, so can take my time and soak in the whirlpool as much as I want. Chee-burger should be fully thawed out by the time I get home.

So need to pack my bathing suit and get to backstroking. Have a good day all.

Costco carries them.

the at&t people at target convinced me to get a new phone. i said as long as it doesn’t increase my monthly rate.

the phone arrived last night. i started the switch. everything went well until the “esim” thing. i brought it to the office this morning. tried it here, no go. over to the at&t store. they couldn’t do it either.

43 minutes later tech support found out that something in the somewhere was set for october 2nd. i’m not sure if they were able to change the date to today, or convince whatever needed convincing that it was october 2nd.

while i was there, they also upgraded my wifi thingy from a zte to an air thingy. i’m now 5 g.

hopefully this will stop the internet drops and i will finally find out who the killer is at some point.

i’ve seen them at 5 below…

Oh goody - I’m hearing (again) all about MIL’s dental history. Shoot me, please.

MIL’s sister has a Costco account - maybe she can order some for us for delivery. Must ask…

If not, I have a Costco account.

Every year or so, dear old dad is alarmed to see bright red blood in his stool and dials 911. In acknowledgment of his advanced age and the solidity of his insurance, he’s well-accommodated with an ambulance ride and a room for overnight observation. So I’m on standby for his ride back home.

Young people think they’ll die of a broken heart. Old people think they’ll die of a broken hemorrhoid.

Today’s Picture Day at irk. I brought a bow tie, but didn’t wear it. Neither did I wear my tweed jacket. Of course I had to wake up at 0430 and drive for two and half hours to get to the orifice. (Fast drive today.) The picture-taking lasted from 0945 until about 1130 or so. Individual shots, ‘working’ shots, group shots. Then at 1145 we headed over to Azteca Mexican Restaurant.

I ordered carne asada, no beans, no rice, no tortillas, and a side salad. So basically: Meat, grilled jalapeño, a grilled green onion, and some guacamole; plus the salad. They got everything right, except they brought beans and rice. I gave those to a cow-orker to take home to her husband.

After lunch I had to go across the street from the restaurant to Trader Joe’s to get Wifey some French Roast K-pods. I got a bottle of gin for myself, and also some grape seed oilfor seasoning cast iron.

Now it’s a quatah past two. I’m hear another hour, and I’ve barely accomplished any actual irk today. I’m much more productive when I irk from home.

Howdy Y’all! Provisions got procured and stowed. Then we had some quality cee-mint pond time, followed by showers and nappage. We et an early sup at Sonny’s and are now back at da cave in the a/c. 'Tis awful hawt out! Next up is Netflix, chill, and maybe popcorn. I’s still full of ribs from Sonny’s!

MOOOOOOM I missed your post about the Tobester earlier. One can’t help but worry a bit.
