(OLD) Out and About in the MMP

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s a whopping 9c/49f with no predicted change, and rain showers. Weather app says “Wall deal with rain in our own way. Mine is fucking cussing”. Fair enough, I wonder what the app would say if it knew we’d had hail as well as rain today?

Mooom talking to the vet about Taz is a good idea, they can give you some advice on your options, but if Taz is old and tired, it might be a kindness to do the deed

Kitap conga-rats on the end of the treatment, and fingers crossed for the next bit!

Pilot thanks for all the info on your job, please don’t stop telling us about it  And sorry to hear about the coffee incident. The worst thing I’ve ever done is make a large cup of tea to take on my commute, and forgetting to put milk in it…fortunately the lady who ran the coffee cart at the station took pity on me and gave me some milk, she said it made up for all the people who wanted black coffee!

metal mouse sorry to hear about the car woes :frowning: I hope the new guy managed to get it sorted out. I had a new heavy-duty battery in mine a couple of years ago, took it to the same garage for a service 12 months later and they said I needed a new battery. I told them they’d already sold me a brand new one a year ago, and suddenly they changed their minds.

Taters sorry to hear about the work issues, it’s never good to be the bearer of bad news. It’s also too easy to feel inadequate if you need a higher-up to get involved, but sometimes people just won’t listen if things don’t come from a certain level.

Nothing exciting in my day, I am at irk on campus, had a pleasant meeting this morning with the wellbeing team just to go over some processes with them, and then a natter with the School Operations Manager (who I worked with elsewhere on campus many years ago). Now it’s almost time to go home, where there is leftover chilli for dinner, and hopefully a cat who has stopped complaining about things.

Hugs to you, Kitap. Come here anytime and we will distract you from your scan-xiety. I’ve got my fingers crossed for you, too!

JtC, good for you walking out! Sounds like a totally toxic place.

Good luck, doggio!

Taters, I’m sorry - I know how it feels having to ask someone to step in, but you did the right thing. Some people indeed need the “big stick.” And that’s what those guys are there for - in part, to play the heavy.

Waiting for the mom unit to let me know how to scans went; the waiting is one of the most terrible parts. Other than that, the day is hopefully going to be boring. I’m planning to have someone dye my hair dark purple this afternoon 'cause if I want it purple, it’s gonna be purple, dammit.

Other than that, preparing to work - I’ve gotten a goodly amount done this morning already but my motivation already beginning to fail me.

No kidding - Daughter just had to replace hers and it ran close to $250 I think. Choke-gasp-wheeze…

It was a short day at the boatyard. Scrubbing the hull took no time at all. But there wasn’t enough time to start another project since FCD has to take his mom to the Dr. We did talk about the name and hailing port signs for the stern, and got some measurements so FCD can do some computer models. Then we’ll make some paper cutouts to give us an idea before he cuts into the mahogany.

Here’s what the fiberglass guy got done yesterday:

He’s working on another boat today - at least he was this morning.

Tomorrow will be compounding and waxing, plus I’ll put the last coat on the transom. It will not be a short day, but it’ll be good to get it all done before the rain moves in.

I stopped at Aldi for a few things, and got them all put away when I got home. Then I mowed the ditch because it looked awful and I couldn’t stand it. I’m about to have some lunch, then, who knows? Maybe rake some more? Maybe not. Sammich first.

I is tahred today so you will find me in my chair watching Law & Order reruns. If you don’t find me in my chair, I’m napping so please be vewwy vewwy quiet.

The thing is, I didn’t as the SD to step in. She did it of her own accord. That’s why I felt inadequate.

Kitap, congrats on completion of treatment. I hope the news is good.

I’m doing the same thing, sort of. I’m waiting for Dad to get back from dialysis and it’s what’s on the television. I’m also reading and listening to music. I’m good at non-important multitasking.

Aaaaand, here comes the lawn mowing service. Right in front of my unit.

Pilot, your story makes me feel somewhat less stupid about yesterday’s incident. No offense, of course.

I managed to successfully get all my coffee into the mug this morning, so I’m now adequately caffeinated and ready to face the day. No furniture building today. I’m going to spend time working on my proofreading course; I’m hoping to eventually turn that into a marketable skill.

I hate it when that happens and since my traumatic brain injury those little glitches happen a leetle more often than I would like. Getting my cup of Keurig coffee into me first thing in the morning is my standing Prime Objective. Now much complicated by the requirement that my omeprazole pill is on board for an hour on an empty stomach before I ingest anything else. %!#@&dratandbother!!!&@&#^$. Suddenly, after 73 years, I have to do morning differently. I basically grumble and kvetch that whole hour of coffee-denied waiting. I distract myself by treating myself to reading the MMP. All of you are how I get by.

And yes, I can verify that the catch tray under the Keurig brew spout can hold a mug full of brew wrongfully started before the mug is placed.

My morning fumbles were much worse when it was a whole Mr. Coffee sized carafe that wasn’t where it was supposed to be. Then the coffee creek could make it halfway across the kitchen. Where upon of course several cats would walk through and traipse around acting put out and annoyed. How dare I sully their realm? Huge recriminations ensue, as if I didn’t feel stupid enough already.

I quickly gave up on adding sugar or cream. Way too many moving parts to get wrong, much less remember.

On my best days I grind fresh-roasted beans for my Keurig reusable K-cup. Most first cups of the days are plebeian Folgers. If I’m firing on more of my cylinders than usual, I’ll grind the beans the night before and make both cups from the fresh beans. Needless to say, that’s a rare morning when I remember and can pull that off.

And I think every microwave should come with a spare glass turntable. Sooner or later you’re gonna need it. Or at least that way you can have one to use and one in the dishwasher.

This exact sequence has happened to me multiple times. Yup, just go ahead and replace the battery. pilot’s advice is right on.

My last battery went just that way. As I remember it was about $300 to replace with the disposal fee and a prorated 5 year warranty (2014 Honda Civic). Once I actually got a new battery out of Sears in the last month of a 5 year warranty-that was fun! Of course, I was probably what put Sears out of business.

The theatre is so cool! And the lighting kit makes it even better. Can’t wait to see it assembled. Please post a pic.

Will do.

(My Netflix soporific is the BBC’s Call the Midwife. Next up will be Outlander. Law and Order was definitely my first gateway to napping-I may have to give it another go-round soon. Thanks for the suggestion).

I’ve never heard about this caveat for Omeprazole. I’ve been taking it for years, first thing in the morning and followed shortly by breakfast, and it works great for me. Of course, YMMV and IANAD and all that, but I suspect if you don’t adhere perfectly to this rule, you’ll be fine.

Both my doctor and my pharmacist directed me to take on empty stomach (with a full glass of water) and an hour before eating. The prescription bottle is also consistently labeled with those instructions.

The reading I’ve done suggests that the empty stomach directions promote more of the active medication getting into the bloodstream. Since I’m trying to prevent esophagitis from a hiatal hernia rather than taking it to prevent pesky heartburn, I’m all about maximizing blood level. Esophagitis could lead to Barrett’s Esophagitis which could become cancer. Been there there, done the cancer dance, hoping to avoid being asked out onto that dance floor again.

I’m doing the prescription delayed release capsules, which can also affect the instructions and results. It’s interesting to me that the advice given in Great Britain is different re: timing with food.

Glad it is working for you the way you’re taking it, that is what counts. My regime is new to me, I’m barely 6 months into a surprise diagnosis-no one saw a hiatal hernia coming, the x-ray was looking for something else entirely.

Next will be transferring management of the hernia and omeprazole over to my PCP from the pulmonologist who got the x-ray results and prescribed it initially. I’m of an age where potential effects on bone density need to be attended to. Fun, fun. Getting old is definitely not for sissies.

My dad built one in the walk-out basement and its where we sleep when we visit. It’s really cool.

Looks at clock, calculates time difference, crosses fingers anyway

Hope it goes well!

Next time somebody says that making a caffè latte by grinding the beans, making the espresso and then frothing the milk by hand, is too much work, I’m pointing them at this post. That’s just too complicated for me.

At work we have automatic machines. I think each machine gets at least one victim (pays for coffee and forgets to put a cup underneath) per day.

The model AND the lighting? That’s gonna look cool.

Definitely not, and I’m glad your latest cable challenge didn’t derail you for very long.

Got a phone call from my Swiss tax accountant. That part’s now done, so I also got an email from the American tax accountant confirming that they will start with their part.

The weather has decided that it will do a bit of everything - some rain, some dense rain (almost snow), some sun, some wind, just no hail (which my parents got, surprisingly). Next few days will be more of the same, just damper. Everything’s getting nice and green, so I’m not complaining.

Hope to get to bed at a reasonable hour tonight - last night was late, and then I couldn’t get to sleep. Not good.

It’s 86° in my yard. Normal high for this time of year is 67°. But, yeah, climate change is a hoax…

I just finished mowing the front yard and the side strip along the street, tho most of that was just chopping and blowing leaves - not much grass out there. I’ve got the sprinkler going on my veggies and I dumped some water on my potted plants on the porch.

Weather’s not looking good for Saturday, which means Roxy’s party will be here. Daughter will decide for certain tomorrow. I think the rest of today is for chillage. I need to rest up for wax on-wax off tomorrow.

Howdy Y’all! Nappage has been achieved and ‘‘tis off and on rainy. A good day for high sloth. Got the soup on and it smells nummy.

The stories of coffee woes made me giggle. I’m surprised I have not forgotten to place my mug on the Keurig before. Knowin’ me, however, it’s just a matter of time.

Kitap great news!

MetalMouse sorry about the battery woes.

Happy Thoisday! Today is laundry day. I’m also going to do my annual scrub down of the balcony, I hope. It depends. A friend is supposed to drop by sometime this afternoon. And I need to walk.

FCM, Rainbow Playground sounds like a magical place. Fingers crossed that there’s no rain to make a real rainbow. Hard to believe Roxy is another year older. How’d THAT happen? Also, I can see why the decision re: Taz would be tough. I have no idea how a cat feels when seizing, but if there’s no apparent pain, he’s still eating, and he’s getting any enjoyment out of life, even if it’s just a nap in a sunbeam, maybe it’s not quite his time yet. I don’t think you can make a wrong decision here.

Pilot, thank you so much for the post about airports. I learned a lot and find your posts about your job fascinating. Also, you’re a good guy for being so mindful of your ladyship’s rest AND for offering your hard-won insights into cancer.

Taters, I sure hope today is a better day. You deserve a tranquil day with only happy surprises.

CatGlove, congrats on finishing chemo! Did you get to ring the bell? At the infusion center where I get my shots, they do a whole ceremony with songs and everything. I hope you got some sort of celebration.

MetalMouse, there should be a rule that your plumbing and your car cannot break down at the same time. I’m glad it’s “just” the battery. I’m looking forward to you having a stress-free summer.

WetOne, quiet? Us? I hope you get some snooze time when the racket outdoors stops.

Boo, I’m relieved to hear beans ground the night before are just as fresh. My now-ex insisted on grinding them in the morning so they were fresh, which was fine M-F, as I was up and gone by then, but I was so sleep-deprived, I wanted to sleep in until 9 or so on weekends, and those grinders are loud enough to wake the dead, especially when the kitchen is next to the bedroom. Not that that was grounds for divorce. (Sorry. I can’t help it.)

And you’re 100% right about the turntables, but I think the manufacturers hope you’ll say, “Screw it,” and buy a new microwave. And sorry you have to wait so long for your cuppa joe. Maybe sing “Anticipation” while you’re watching the clock.

Boo, I doubt it helps, but I managed to put my Cuisenart coffee carafe through a glass window two years ago. I’d gotten home from visiting mom in the hospital and it was my birthday. I was planning to make a giant hot pot of coffee all ready for the following morning. Well, I don’t know what I was thinking (I was exhausted) but I think I was trying to smack something off the window and thought the carafe was an extension of my arm. Well, that part of my arm put a hole in the window. 'Twas a cold night, that one. Surprisingly, though, the carafe held up and I still had my coffee.

Good idea. Sometimes I’m eager enough that I won’t leave it to chance and I’ll set a 60 minute timer on my phone. “:notes::musical_note:Anticipation:notes::musical_note:” would be the perfect alert tone for that! Plus it would be a pleasant reminder of my Mumper friends and make me smile. I may have to work on that (of course that means downloading the tune, which would mean signing up for some service or app). We’ll see what I can pull off.

At least there is that!

I think you win the Mumper travails of brewing coffee :trophy:!

That’s kind of where I am. If he was suffering, there would be no question. But apart from the 10-15 second episodes, he’s chill. He’ll let me pick him up, tho he doesn’t purr when I skritch him. He’s eating and he’s using the litter box. I just don’t think it’s quite time…

FCD just texted me - there’s some problem with records and he doesn’t think he’ll get home before 5. The appointment was at 1:40. They just now took her back - at 3:20. I’m guessing the Dr in FL didn’t transfer her records. Stoopit stoopit stoopit.

So I guess I’m doing supper alone. I hate cooking for 1. Looks like grilled cheese for me.

I’m with you~would have been grounds for divorce. My cats run to the farthest reach of the house when I use my grinder.

Yeah, purists may have a point, using the freshly ground coffee beans within minutes is the ideal, but sitting ground & sealed for 12 hours overnight to spare me the sound in the morning when I have not yet, by definition, had my coffee is worth it to me, whatever the infinitesimal drop in quality might be.

[and while typing this post, the discourse whiny nanny just scolded me for not replying to several posts at once. Supposedly it’s ‘easier for everyone’ if I don’t do what I’m doing.

Please, cherished Mumper friends, please let me know if I need to mend my ways. I’m doing the best I can with a TBI bonked brain. Some days I’m lucky to post at all. Sheesh.]
