(OLD) Out and About in the MMP

wolfie my mom had bad teeth. When she was 83, she got endocarditis and needed IV antibiotics daily for 6 weeks. I know the endocarditis was linked to her teeth health. Take care of your chompers!

Last day of hot weather for awhile. It’s been mid-to-high 80s, but some rain is on the way and much cooler weather. A downside to living in a building like this is that it has a single-loop heating/cooling system, which means you can’t just turn it to cool when a few days of hot weather show up.

Have a good weekend, all you who still need to observe such things.

Thank you. And best of luck with what you have to get done. You rightly make me feel like a whiny wimp for complaining about getting one (1) tooth pulled.

At least you have dental insurance. I’m now retired, and even here in Socialist Marxist Canada, where health care is free, dental care is covered by public health insurance only in special cases, and covered by other public plans only for children or the demonstrably poor. Much as I love my magic health card that gets me totally free health care in general, in the case of dental procedures, the “health card” I have to reach for is the one with a VISA logo on it. :grimacing:

Ouch!!1!!!11! Your day sounds downright horrid and stress-filled.

I must have missed it upthread … what sort of “frame”? Bike frame, bed frame, picture frame? I hope not orthopedic frame?

Soon to head out for dinner tonight. Trying a place best described as Italian tapas plus wine bar. The bulk of the menu is small bite appetizers and quite the wine list. Although entrees are available as well. It is small & intimate, and comes well recommended. I hope it’s as good as its reputation.

Wow. Today I learned.

Ouch! So being able to continue taking chomps on your food has them taking chomps on your wallet. Damn.

I’m back from the hike. We only went about 2 miles, as Ms. Dog’s person got tired. It was gorgeous, though, and Ms. Dog couldn’t believe her good fortune: TWO loving humans AND a forest full of good smells and sticks. Since it was a short hike, I may go to the gym for weight stuff and also get a longer walk in.

Emily! So good to see you again!

MetalMouse, you’ve sure had a run of bad luck lately. I wish you could wrap them all up and send them to someone deserving, like Vladimir Pootin’ or Mitch McConnell or Cheetolini.

FCM, seconding the call for photos of our future president on her new bike!

Real Fish, do you just have to get a new frame, or will you need a new mattress, too? If you have to get a new one, may I recommend Costco? Their prices are lower than any place else I looked. It’s insane how pricey mattresses are now, so I hope you don’t need a new one. Also, you need a break from all that stress.

Wolfie, I hope the antibiotics work and that your days in the dental chair are numbered. The first time my mom went to a dentist, she was in her teens. (They were too poor in Italy.) She had 22 cavities. She frequently said, “Oh, Nellie, whatever you do, take care of your teeth!” I pretty much have, though I skipped flossing too often until I got into my 40s. These days, I floss, brush, and use a Water Pik. Dental work is so freakin’ expensive, and you don’t get anything fun out of it! That’s my motivation–that and Mom’s voice in my head.

I really think humans should get another set of teeth in our late 40s. OK, it might look weird when you lose your front teeth, but we’d be used to it. It’d just tell people your approximate age.

Pilot, I hope you and your honey have a wonderful time at the Italian restaurant.

Howdy Y’all! Sloth has been in high gear all day except for the small exertion required to make burgers ‘n fries. Tomorrow I shall be a bit more productive as I shall help with mowage of the back forty over at the church house. We even have tshirts that have “Ministry of the Back Forty” written on the back. All class we are!

Woof, long day at the shop. We’re (I’m) taking apart the exhibit for transport to install. I got everything 1 person can do done, now I need the other folks to help–picture big pipes in a grid that need to come down.

doggio I hope Darci’s minders make the right choice.

swampy I have to believe the fries were of the frozen variety, cuz makin fries seems outside of the required slothage.

FCM Hoping the indoor birthday goes well. Is that new fiberglass on the boat a bow thruster? You probably said, but swiss cheese brain.

nellie I’m loving hearing the tales (tails?) of Ms Dog.

Ok, now off to dinner, used up the last easter ham in scalloped N.O.T.

Have a great weekend, all!

real fish, if all you need is a frame, try a hotel / motel furniture outlet. I have a double / queen metal frame that I bought from one for $10 when I first came to Tennessee so it was a good investment. Another place that I’ve seen them is around apartment dumpsters from when someone moves out (yeah, I’ve been known to rescue a couple of pieces of furniture from that pile).

Nelson passed his physical with flying colors :good boy: However, I’m going to have to find a different vet for his teeth cleaning. His practice went from $400 last year to ~$900 this year. They’re reasonably priced for basic care, but I think that more than doubling the price inside of a year is unacceptable.

After his appointment, we went to Panera’s for an iced tea for me and a pup cup for him, then on to the dog park. Now, he’s snoozing and I’m messing around in the studio.

The wife spent her day getting our taxes done on TurboTax. I try to keep a low profile on tax day, as things can get ugly. This year we had to file in two states on top of the fed chore. Luckily, that program does most of the work for you, but it still took her hours to plow through it.

I napped. There were multiple storms. Darci hates loud noises. I suppose I’ll go back to cuddling a Sheppard mix during storms. At least this time it won’t be a 180lbs. Sheppard mix falling asleep on me so I can’t reach my beer, like with Teddy.
Also, Roomie has been approved to adopt a cat/emotional support animal for Darci. :cat:

Foster Dad emailed the Animal Center, but they haven’t responded yet(Government in action).

: whistles awkwardly :

I work at The Island of Misfit Toys.

Not if you follow hockey.

It’s where the thruster propellers will be installed. The motor and the battery will be just above the tube under the forward berth. The fiberglass guy was doing the inside glassing today.

It was FedEx, so you’re clear this time…

My nose is in mega-drip mode. Stoopit allergies. Stoopit pollen. Stoopit nose. I’ll be crashing soon - I’s tahred! The temp has plummeted and it rained a bit earlier - more on the way. Of course, because it’s the weekend. Stoopit weather.

Another night in Paradise…

Evening all. Got out to Wal-Mart this evening after checking the status of the soccer fields (actually in pretty good shape despite the rain and it’s drying out tonight) so looks like we’ll get the games in tomorrow. Will start at 8:30am when it’s about 60F and finish sometime after 1pm when it’s 80F.) Should keep me busy and out of trouble. Bought two new belts, the old one’s (48") are just too big for slim, svelte me so went to a 46" size. Hope to make it to a 44" belt before Xmas. Then since it was after 6pm, I decided I’ve have my “TBD” meal of the week and went to WhataBurger. So I’ll need to do penance tomorrow for gluttony tonight.

Real Fish, just go ahead and scream, because it sounds like you still have things working well, despite Murphy’s best attempts to mess things up.

nellie, sounds like you had a good afternoon. Don’t worry about my bad luck, things happen in life…the Arabs have a term for it… Inshallah (As God wills it). Given that I’m an agnostic, it’s not a perfect match, but I do use it now and then.

VanGo, so having to take it apart so you can put it back together again…sounds like a lot of fun (not!).

red, glad Nelson’s physical was good, mine is about 2 weeks from today; and teeth cleaning isn’t until July (and covered by insurance).

Cookie, TurboTax is pretty easy to do, at least in my use of it. Hope the grumps are kept to a minimum.

OK, need to come up with a lineup for the girls tomorrow, since I may be busy right up to our game. And of course someone won’t be able to make it, meaning I’ll have to re-write it on the fly at the field…such is the life of a U10 soccer coach…

Take care all.

Fish tacos and margaritas at Paso del Norte tonight.

Who doesn’t like fish tacos? And margaritas?

< points and laughs at inferior shipping company >

I love 'em!

Hiding is a good plan. Especially when 3 returns are to be done in just 2 days before the deadline. The hard part isn’t the TT program; it’s when it asks you for a number you don’t have and can’t quickly get. That’s when the furniture starts flying.

'Twas quite nice. We got mildly dolled up and Her Ladyship was hawt as always. Live music with a lady singer doing lots of 1980s romantic top 40 to recorded instrumentals, plus newer stuff. Steely Dan, Norah Jones, etc. Excellent repertoire for the audience. A good not great voice. But not too loud, which is really my primary measure of merit for live entertainers in restaurants anymore.

We had reservations for prime time and it was busy but not quite full. Dark décor, black tablecloths, real candles, formally dressed waitstaff, etc. About ten 2- or 4-top tables total, plus a couple more outside and the bar itself seating another dozen-ish. So about 50 customers tops. Intimate, not a warehouse.

Started with an appetizer of assorted olives and big hunks of nice Parmesan. I began with an Italian Valpolicella and she had an Italian prosecco. Then came dinner.

I had a French Viognier and a burrata salad as my entrée and it was frankly spectacular; the freshly made basil pesto stank up the whole joint with the aroma of freshly pureed basil. Plus mild minced garlic. Human catnip. The burrata itself was yummy; the right combo of wet/soft and dry/soft with the slight tang of buffalo evident. Perhaps surprisingly, the local area supports two artisanal cheesemaking outfits that supply many of the better restaurants and can also be bought directly at the farmer’s markets. There’s certainly plenty of local aggregate demand for artisanal cheese; I just don’t think of the tropics as a natural cheesemaking terroir. How they control the climate and the local spores adequately is a mystery to me. The balsamic glaze was artfully applied and not too sweet. I dislike it when somebody converts balsamic into something more reminiscent of slightly tangy maple syrup than good aged vinegar.

Her Ladyship’s main course was a French rosé Prosecco and a honey-roasted butternut & green apple salad with a variety of other interesting additions to the mixed greens with a red wine vinaigrette dressing. She’s pretty discerning and pronounced it excellent as well. It was also ginourmous and a bit over half came home for tomorrow.

Espressos to finish and then it was time to walk home replete. We shall return; the service was attentive & knowledgeable, the rest of the menu is inviting, and we didn’t even get into their several entrées.

Walking home we passed a 30-ish couple of very pretty people stylishly dressed where he was bitching her out something fierce about something incomprehensible to us and she was standing rigidly silent while her face was shooting daggers back at him. Once out of earshot I commented “They’re doing it wrong.” Indeed.

Soon it shall be the time of the sleeping.

I wonder how often their SSLAWS break down, eh, Mr. brown smartypants? Whatever the heck a SSLAWS is. I sure don’t know, but I bet it’s big and noisy. And complicated.

Me too! That does it. Tomorrow is a fish tacos and margaritas party at Johnny’s. Who’s in?

That will be a surprise. LMK when you’ll be here. :stuck_out_tongue:

So glad to hear you got to get out🥳. Hope your weather keeps treating you well so you can keep getting out.

Heh, tell them a magic internet friend of yours is proud of them too! Good job by all!

A little tip: don’t put the trap out while the little ‘uns are swarming around for the party. A mouse-trapped finger would be a lousy party favor. The noise will keep the mouse in hiding til they all go home. I’d loan you my blood thirsty Siamese cat to terrorize it but sounds like shipping is an issue. Siamese cats already sound like they are broken.

Do those kids and their parents appreciate how lucky they are to have you running things?

Me! Me, too! I love fish tacos and good ones are hard to find. And it would finally be my chance to have a Viexx Carre (?sp?).

Definitely sign me up!

But, I’ll need a guest bedroom so I don’t have to go home til the morning. I’m happy to share the bed with assorted cats and dogs.

In theory, it scans the tracking number, makes a label, and shoot it on. In practice, LOL
