(Old) Pet pics in the MMP

My first concert, way back in the last century… My parents had season tix to Starlight Musicals in an amphitheater at Butler U. in Indy. So, I was maybe 12 years old when I saw The Henry Mancini band, and Liberace, not at the same show. When I was maybe 16, I took dates to see Donovan and Simon & Garfunkel. The first rock show was SRC, an electric band that, today, might be called emo. That was maybe 1968.

Dropping in to say I’m sorry. :people_hugging: :broken_heart: :people_hugging:

You and your ex- gave Bailey a first class send off these last days. That doesn’t make it hurt less now, but it will help you feel better about it long term. :people_hugging:

:people_hugging: You loved her to the end.

I feel your pain. I keep it on in the morning for a bit, but sometime before noon, I have a belly full of certain people.

I got the over the tank shelving assembled only to find that it was too narrow (I don’t know what size a standard commode is in China, but this was definitely smaller than an American model). Fortunately, it does fit on one end of my thing closet, where I need some more shelving. I’ll look for another model and keep in mind measurements this time. I also took out the trash and the foam from around the W/D.

Sis and BIL will be here in a bit. He works on this side of town and is stopping after work. Sis decided to come on up to visit. I offered to fix supper, but they tend to eat pretty late (Sis is retired and BIL works until 7), so they declined. It will be nice to have the cabinet for the dryer attached to the wall so’s I can use it.

Howdy Y’all! We had some great quality cee-mint pond time today. The water was cool at first but warmed up nicely as the sun got overhead. We will be able to do that some more over the next week as sunny days are predicted throughout next week. The temps will be mid to upper 80s, but the humidity will make it feel like low to mid 90s. Nappage got accomplished along with day drinkin’. We also fixed and et sup.

{{{Oppsie}}} I am so sorry for the loss of your fur baby. You did what you thought was best for Bailey. She lived her absolute best life because of you. The obit is beautiful!

I heard a bloody great THUMP! Inside of the house! It was Abbey being a little too enthusiastic scratching the small cat tree. She’d pulled it over.

Mrs. L.A. is off storming the castle. I mean, she’s going down to Bellingham to fly an American, Mexican, and Salvadoran flags from an overpass alongside a Ukrainian flag and a Canadian flag and a big banner that says WE STAND WITH IMMIGRANTS.

I was bad. I ate my leftover carnitas des res taco (corn tortilla) and leftover carnitas des res. (I got a grilled jalapeño yesterday, and I sliced it up and mixed it in.) And… I ate the refried beans. So I’ve had a bit of carbs today. But it was good.

I’ve been more-or-less avoiding the news, just reading threads here. I gather that Charlie Kirk’s killer is a White Mormon Conservative who followed Nick Fuentes. I gather that Trump still has dementia. And I gather Discourse is really, really popular. (I’ve only used it since SDMB switched to it. If I’ve ‘used’ it elsewhere, then I don’t know about it.) Also, it looks like my Trackpad is broken. I’ll have to get this computer into the shop.

The news is talking about Discord, not Discourse. Discord is a communication app very popular among younger folks. Like whatever generation came after Millennials (my kids, millennials all, don’t use it-a former roommate of mine, in her early 30s used it almost exclusively). She is a big online gamer and I gather Discord is used very heavily worldwide in various gaming communities.

No doubt some one can come along who knows more.

That just goes to show you how far out of the loop I am. Heck, my wife has to remind me to take my phone with me… and I’m more computer-savvy than she is! (Not that you would know it, based on my occasional challenges. Thank the gods for really computer-savvy Dopers!)

Mrs. L.A. informed me that her new blanket should arrive tomorrow, so I’ll ‘inherit’ her current blanket. (One of us snores, if you must know. OK, both of us do.) She says I can throw away the blanket I’m using. I hate throwing things away that are perfectly good. Maybe I’ll give it to a homeless person.

(I’ve just remembered that she gave me a little square pillow with a moose on it for a present. I used it to prop up my right arm when I slept. She ‘re-did’ my bed. She asked how I like it and I said, ‘It’s nice, but I couldn’t find the moose pillow.’ She got a guilty look on her face. She’d thrown it into the trash. I didn’t dig it out of the bin. I have a ‘regular’ pillow for my arm now.)

It’s 10pm and time for a short late night final, since I have my alarm set for 6:30am Saturday so I can break fast before heading out to the soccer fields. All’s well here, temperature is down to 68F and falling but it’ll be a hot one tomorrow. reaching 90F. Kinda glad the younger kids are playing at 8am before it gets too warm outside.

So a quick review of the 25 messages since my last posting…

FCM, hope the folks at the marina have the sense to listen to him; sounds like he was motivated (and probably having a good time). And I went from 46" to 40" jeans in a couple of years, which made both Duluth Trading and Goodwill happy…

shoe, thanks for the info, I am so used to cats getting out of things that are put on them I just naturally assumed he’d try to slip out. Enjoy the early night.

flyboy, have done that (dishwasher with the water off) once or twice, so I sympathize.

red, nothing ever fits exactly as you want it, hope you can find one a little closer to your needs.

BBBoo, flyboy, I have a couple Discord boards I read, they tend to be fairly well-focused rather than all over the place like the SDMB, but they do provide pretty decent service.

OK, done for now, will re-establish contact sometime tomorrow. Have a good weekend all.

I lived with my mom until 1976. We had a movable dishwasher. When I moved in with dad, he had a built-in… but he (we) always hand-washed. When I moved to L.A., I hand-washed; and did when I moved up here to Washington. Mrs. L.A. moved up in 2010. (We married in 2015.) She brought her movable dishwasher. I’m happy to report that after 34 years, I still remembered to turn off the water and push the button before disconnecting the hose. But twice (as of today) I’ve forgotten to turn on the water. :frowning:

Mrs. L.A. bought tickets for a 12:15 showing of Downton Abbey at the cinema tomorrow. We’ll have lunch after. I said we can hit Trader Joe’s on the way home. She put tamales on the whiteboard. I added macadamia nuts.

Good news. We can transcend disease, aging and death - all you have to do is stop chewing (yes, it hurts). At least according to this flyer posted right outside my building:

I friggin’ love Portland.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

VW, Fantastic 4, Addams, or John Carpenter’s?

Mastication also gives you hairy palms and blindness. Or is that masturbation? I get them confused(much to the disgust of the other restaurant patrons).

I slept until 4:30 today! Not too shabby. MusicMan went out last night. He was going to karaoke, but it was canceled, so he went to my favorite of all the music spots. I did not go with him because I just felt generally lousy yesterday and had work to do in spite of it. Today will be more work and sleep. I actually didn’t accomplish much yesterday because of how I felt. Today I will do my best to get more done.

No word back from the handyman yet, but he’s a busy guy with a full-time job, 3 young children, and his business.

Ok, I’d better pay some more attention to this poodle on my lap.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 13c/56f with a predicted high of 16c/60f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “I wish it were fucking colder or warmer, because at least that would be fucking interesting.” No…this kind of weather is fine with me.

We now have what we refer to as “Poo Patrol” - happy to report that both Muffin and Blossom have delivered something solid, and Cherry never had a problem with that in the first place.

I am so sorry. Your obit is lovely - beautiful words for a beautiful companion. I know she knew how much you love her, and I am sure she knew you did what is heartbreakinly right. Big hugs to you :people_hugging:

Isn’t this what the MMP is for? I knew someone would be happy about Muffin’s latest production!

Last night was fun, we wandered to a pub that’s about 20 minutes walk from home but it’s not somewhere we’ve ever been. The Chindit was an interesting little place - we went because a friend of mine was singing with a rock/blues covers band there so we went to see him. It was lovely to catch up, got a big hug from him when we got there, and got to meet his new partner. Well, not that new as they’ve got a gorgeous 2yr old daughter! Got home just after midnight and a good time was had by all.

Today will be busy, I have fed the cats and cleaned litter trays, and done a load of laundry. Need to forage for an early lunch as I’ve got a couple of hours of fundraising at a local supermarket to do. Then back home for a shower etc, and off to meet friends for a curry, then off to a gig at the Giffard, which probably means another late night. Good job I’ve got no plans for tomorrow!

Another drive by post. Sorry!

SenGirl had a week-long event at a university with her 11-th grade class, including two overnights. She had a really good time!

SenBoy is really busy with his sports.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 62 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 85 and sunny. Methinks quality cee-mint pond time is on the agenda again. I do like to day drink whilst I lounge upon my float. There will be other RDOS inactivities as well. Any need to feed will be via forage. My DAWGS will play the rocky flops* in Obknoxville at three-thirty. Should be a good game.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Mornin’ all - About 0645 as I start to drivel. It’s now late twilight on a totally overcast day. I’ve been caffinatin’ and balconatin’ for almost 2 hours now. Had to put on a tracksuit because the temp had dropped all the way to 76/24. NWS sez today will be mostly cloudy with a few minutes of rain for most of us. High should be 88/31.

My last few days have had little adventure, and hence little to report on, as I try to recalibrate for a life less centered on food and drink when I don’t yet have replacement activities to hand. The happy news is I’m down a few pounds. Those are the easy ones; the rest will be work.

GF arrives this evening for a 4 day stay ending Tue morning. Which is really just two full days plus 2 small fractions of a day. That will provide some much needed replacement activity. Then next Fri I’m off to SFO for the family event I mentioned, then GF to join me there for a week. With any luck, this is the turning point in our togetherness program and thereafter we both actually invest the sustained time we both say we want to invest.

My minor surgery from Wed is fine. Except as doc predicted, it did create an incipient black eye that for now is a little red and a lot puffy above the eyeball, but oughta be turning a fetching shade of purple here soon. Tres chic.

The IRS reminded me, so I’m reminding you, that Monday is the last day to timely pay your 3rd quarter estimated income taxes if you do that kind of thing. Which many retirees and all self-employed folks need to do.

As to y’all …

Sensei: I’ve been following the saga of the house. Like all those projects, from the moment you start it just keeps getting bigger and bigger as you discover all the things that couldn’t be known beforehand. That’s the scariest phase, because it seems the list is every growing and despite a day’s hard & expensive work, the list is still bigger than before. When will it ever end?

ISTM you’re approaching the turning point where that effect slows and stops. Best of all, you’ve figured out a way to deliver an early win for wife & daughter. Congrats on lots of well-earned progress.

Sticky buns: Good news overall about IEPs despite the vexations. And also for what it says about your supervisor. Hope you can feel better soon.

red: Looks like the new residence is almost together net of that w/d cabinet. Time now again for hobbies, RDOS, and a sense of profound relief.

swampy: Sounds like the convention will be a fun fellowship experience. And a chance to visit the sorta-big city. Have fun w that.

misnomer: More hugs for your loss. You are a great writer and a great person.

Hugs & hoorays and boos as appropriate to all I’ve not mentioned. I have been paying attention.

It’s now a few minutes after dawn, the sky is finally getting light enough to see we have a bit of blue among the gray. Which also signals time for me to get my rump in gear and start my day.

Cheers and happy weekend to those who celebrate!

Or stick it in your car for just-in-case? I have a small afghan that belonged to MIL - I think it’s ugly, but it’s in my trunk, and once it’s cold enough, I’ll toss it in the back seat. Ya never know…

Well, that’s, um, different… Brings to mind my grandfather - he hated putting his teeth in. He once made meatballs with ground beef that could have been baby food. Takes all kinds, I guess.

Happy B-Day, Pilot!!

Interesting. It’s about 55° here and we slept with many windows open. Around 76°, I start thinking about turning on the a/c - at least that’s where it’s set all summer. OK, today will close in on the 80s, but I’ll probably not close up because it cools down quickly.

Today’s big event will be cleaning FCD’s shop. He’s not a clean-as-you-go sorta guy, nor is he a put-your-tools-away guy either. The usual cleaning process is for him to find and stow all his tools while I sweep and/or shop-vac. At worst, it may take about 90 minutes. Beyond that, who knows? His jeans are supposed to be delivered between 11 and 1 according to FedEx. That’s pretty much the excitement ahead.

Onward, then. Happy Saturday!!

One last pet pic for this week: Cleanup in Aisle Three:

Family coming over later for the lumpia fest. Lots of prep work to do. On with the day!
