My grandma would not sit at a table if there were 13. Somebody must have been sent to the kids’ table. Cupcakes I love Collins fruitcake.
So once I had those corner blocks done I did some assembly. This is the center, consisting of 25 blocks, each 12" x 12". There are two more rows to go for a total of 81 blocks total for a finished quilt 9’ x 9’
Love the color palette! As usual, very impressed with your skills!
Thanks!
Exquisite!
Glad you arrived OK!
I’m glad that he’s doing well with his treatment.
Pretty!
That has a slight southwestern vibe to it.
Happy Christmas eve!
I irked a half day, came home, picked up Nelson and went to the dog park. After that, since it was such a pretty day, we went on a field trip about halfway up the Cumberland Plateau where I lived for about a year and a half back in the nineties. Some things have changed, given that there is now a prison there (more business, etc), but a lot of things have stayed the same.
When I got home I made a pumpkin pie for tomorrow (I use the same recipe that my mom used from the old Libby’s can, but sub splenda for the sugar). Tomorrow, my goddog’s dad (and Penny ) will come over for ham, scalloped potatoes (I changed that for the sweet potatoes originally planned), mustard braised cabbage and cornbread. Special treats for the doggos and we’ll go to the dog park in the afternoon.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Wishing all a joyous return of the light, merry Christmas, happy almost-Hanukkah, &c.
I’ve been in the kitchen baking most of the day - peanut butter cup cheesecake, crescent cheesecake (CDTs), chocolate cake, and pepperoni bread. The pepperoni bread didn’t rise very well probably due to older yeast, but it’s still ok and tastes pretty good. I also made pork chops and stuffing in the crockpot and some (really disgusting) green bean casserole. Can I go to bed now??
I got my card from missred!
Its small and cute!
Thank you.
Merry Christmas Eve!
Howdy Y’all! I satinized some aigs and then we went to the bar just up the road for a burger and a beer. Then nappage was accomplished. The kiddie service was good and well-attended. The Christmas pageant part was a keeyoote overload! We even applauded, a thing Whiskypalians almost ever do! We got back to da cave and had Netflix, chill and popcorn time. Thus is the news from swampland.
Oopsie I barely remember my pre-RDOS days. I do not fondly recall them. Heck, I don’t really remember most of it. Then again I don’t recall most of last week. I really could probably plan my own surprise party.
Mrs. L.A. didn’t offer a preference for dinner. I don’t know if anyplace is open tonight anyway. So I put some frozen French onion soup pucks into a couple of French onion soup bowls, put some extra Swiss cheese on top, and cooked them for 40 minutes at 400º Ferret Height. Waiting for them to cool a little.
OMG, that is amazing. Your points and edges have gotten so much clean with all of that practice, and the colors are great.
I surely do wish I could pick colors like you, Sunflower and all of the other talented Mumpers do.
A very long time ago there was a small needlework store close to work and the women there were amazing. I’d walk in with a pattern and they would pick my colors and pull all of the treads for me. Nowadays, the needlework store workers will pull colors but none of them want to risk picking them.
I used to sing my own version of that at work sometimes. “She’s just a PSE, not anything to me…”
I hope you have a good dinner with Dad and brother. Be sure to tip your wait person well, they will be overworked because at least two people called out and another one just up and No Call, No Showed.
Yanno, I don’t think the seller is trying to burn you, I think you just live out in the middle of nowhere without a mailbox. I’ve done that and know that it is a pain.
The silver lining of this cloud is that 2025 will be the most active cycle for the sun and WV gets to see the Northern Lights at times. Living out in the middle of nowhere is a great place to see such things!
Well, if an online friend says more chocolate in my life will help my brain, that is enough peer review for me!
I love fruitcake. I always forget how much I like it until I realize that fruitcake season is over.
Happy wife, happy life. Merry Christmas!
We will also be here with our fuzzbutts cause Hubs isn’t feeling up to the drive. I was planning on roasting a chicken but he suggested the small ham we had in the freezer. I put it in a bowl of water for part of the day and now it is in the fridge. I’ll stick a temp probe in before cooking so I will know if I need to adjust for a frozen core.
I am disappointed for him, his family thinks he’s a hero for swooping in at the last minute to deal with the Angel tree, he deserved to soak up a little praise.
Jealous of the snow, glad your drive was easy. Also glad that you don’t have the plague. Cats are so helpful when I’m under the weather, warm vibrating fur just makes everything better.
I do seem to remember that from baking cookies back in the dark ages. I was a very impatient child, making me wait a whole night for cookies is something that would stick…
I feel that so strongly!
I went to reddit for my daily dose of kittah pics and was shocked by that pic of the Ohio fan dissing Dolly Parton. How dare he, Dolly is a national jewel! Happily the Maine Coon sub had new kitten pics so my ire was soothed.
FedYecchs told me yesterday they were planning to hold my package for me to pick it up. It was on my doorstep at a quite reasonable time this morning. Still hate them for the long history of screwups in this area.
DH decided he HAD to roam today, even though I didn’t want to go. Minus side: he insisted on finding snow. Plus side: the current Jeep has excellent tires for this and he’s staying on/near pavement and civilization. Amenities such as food, beverages, and blankets are in the Jeep, so even if he finds himself in a situation where traffic’s being held, he should be OK for probably several hours.
I ran in-town errands, and hopefully now have all needed supplies to get through to Thursday.
Every couple of years I make fruitcake from a recipe my father’s family has had for a very long time. This year it’s just Collins. and you can get it from them year round.
I’m glad that you enjoyed it!
Merry Christmas Eve! When I was two, my siblings woke me up on Christmas Eve morning with, “Wake up! It’s Christmas Eve! We open presents tonight!” (I was very excited. My parents didn’t want little kids waking them at 4 a.m. on the day, so Santa came while Dad read aloud to us on CE. Santa would ring the doorbell, but by the time we got there, Mom was at the front door waving goodbye to his speedy sled. We made our parents do the whole routine even after we grew up. The year my sister was 8 months pregnant, we all got behind her and p-u-u-ushed her up the stairs.
Speaking of which, there’s another new tenant family upstairs. I feel bad for them. Who wants to spend Christmas Eve in a strange apartment?
I’m so impressed. I literally gasped when I saw the White House model. Then a thought occurred to me: @Misnomer, if you got some of those mini Lego figures, you could put anyone in the White House you wanted, including a little Misnomer! Wouldn’t that be fun? Your campaign slogan could be, " Make no mistake! Vote Misnomer for president!"
(Hope you feel better.)
I love this. That’s what I’ll reply tomorrow when family asks what I’m having for Christmas dinner: “Well, not you!”
JtC, my entire family has now heard the Bubba and the Dream Cream story, and they all loved it, my daughter in particular.
[Retroactively waves north.]
[Waves north early and often]
red, that feast sounds fab! Yummmm. My DR friend never made egg rolls. How are they different from Chinese egg rolls?
I would’ve! I started using lanyards for my keys and ID card at work over 20 years ago because I couldn’t lose my keys if they were around my neck. Leaving the lanyard for someone else at the gym was a good idea, though. Yesterday Ms. Dog didnt want all of the big Milk Bone I gave her and left it. I like to think the next dog who came along siad, “Zowee! I struck it rich!”
MetalMouse, glad you got through that long drive OK.
I can’t help thinking that putting Christ into Dr. Seuss-speak would be blasphemy to some folks. I bet Mrs. LA prefers A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Welcome, Rilchiam! Any friend of Jane the Cane (JaneDoe42) is a friend of ours. Someone more clever than I will come up with a good nickname for you.
BooFae, I love teapots and have a teapot collection. My daughter’s bridal shower was a tea party. (She and her pals weren’t quite legal drinking age.) I filled my teapots with roses I’d cut shorter and put one at each table.
I’m still not done, but I have stuff to do, so MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY HANUKKAH, Joyful Kwanzaa, and a Festive Festivus to all!
I thought I’d spend Christmas Eve with my friend that has 7 cats, but she told me today that her sister was having a get-together so I met her there.
I knew we’d be smoking and drinking, but didn’t know there was also to be a feast!
Her sister’s … husband? partner? grilled sirloin and shrimpies, my friend and I split a baked N.O.T. and her sister had baked homemade biscuits.
There was also not one but TWO kinds of pie - key lime & some sort of mixed fruit I think she called razzleberry - and although I was stuffed to the gills I couldn’t pass up either and had a small slice of both.
There was also peanut butter flavored whiskey, which was a new one to me …
Absolutely fell the fuck asleep on the couch for a while. Could NOT keep my eyes open!
Got home, brushed my teeth & went promptly to bed!
Now I’m back up & having a restorative cuppa hot tea to soothe my unsettled tummy while Monkey savors his gooshy-fud.
Good evening all. Brother and Family went to Church about 6pm and I came back to the hotel and used their exercise machines a little bit and now have the rest of the night to catch up. Saw more movies and did some de-shedding of the bloodhounds (they really could use a trip to the groomer). Will pass out my Xmas cards tomorrow, not getting anything since they were concentrating on nephew’s surgery and were not in a shopping mood. But Sis-in-law had cinnamon and pecan rolls ready this morning and that was more than gift enough.
Also, didn’t go to Ohio, I’m in Illinois near St. Louis; my nephew had his operation in Cleveland but they are home now.
I’m about 45 posts behind, but let me see what I can do…
boo fae, parking yesterday was horrendous here too, I expect Thursday will be busy as well. Glad you got a good night out anyway. and I’ll have a number 7 please.
FCM, hope tomorrow is a lot of fun, sure sounds like it,
JtC, sorry Hubs is feeling down. And if you stare into the forest long enough, the forest will stare back at you (at least I think it was the forest…)
So say we all.
rocky, glad the COVID test was negative.
Hippie, you are amazing with those quilts
You really need to ask?
Cupcakes, that was quite a story of your first croissants. And your comment:
Packs a lot of truth in it, IMHO.
Lucky, I’d bet 3-2 on Minnie in 4 rounds…
Rilchiam, I guess them not taking the address from you is for security/safety reasons but I can understand your frustration.
Oopsie, enjoy the family dinner and glad you are feeling better.
And that’s all I can process tonight, so yays, hugs, tears, and smiles for whatever your needs may be and I’ll try to get back with you on Christmas Day.
Yay!
And I do want to get into a drunken brawl with one of those.
{{{{Coppertone}}}} feel better.
Looks good!
Merry Christmas Eve!
