Not finding anyone to take my old vinyl records, I thought
about recycling them. My question is, what are they? I would
first quess that they are considered plastic, but what kind-
1,2,3,4,5,or 6. Or are they none of the above?
Before your old Vinyl hits the shredder you may want to check with a local charity. They often take them as donations. Where I live there is a place that will take your old records and re-sell them at rummage sales that they have trough-out the year. The best part is that because you are giving it to a charity they often will issue a tax reciept for the donation ( usually about $2 per LP) Give it a try.
They’re vinyl, but you probably couldn’t recycle them. Plastic recycling is still in its infancy, technology-wise, and it’s only feasible in special situations where you have a ton of stuff that’s made of exactly the same material. Milk jugs and pop bottles are two such examples. Old Simon & Garfunkle records probably aren’t.
you could donate them to me. course shipping would be too expensive for my tastes, probably. if you live in the CT/NY area, i’d be glad to take them off your hands…
Hey, those things are collectible! Seriously. Send them down to the recycle center and then kick yourself severely a year later when you see the same albums fetching high prices on e-Bay.
If you don’t want them, give them to somebody who does. He can use the money.
Several points to respond to:
1.I’m in the Florida/Alabama area- anyone who wants them,
come and get them.
2.Charities may want a Pat Boone album but would more than likely throw a Bitch album in the trash, something I was trying to avoid in the first place.
3.Should we enact a law stating that an industry should find a way to recycle a product that it produces?
Actually you may be surprised as what they take. Typically , In Winnipeg andyway, they seem to take everything. They have taken evey thing from Enthic accordian playing to Transvision Vamp and from Gospel to Ozzy. You may want to give them a call.
