I know some of you have worked in situations where customers can be banned. How does that work? Is there a bulletin board with photos of banned customers? Does someone monitor who comes in and stops the unwelcome ones? What do you do when a banned person returns?
Roseanne Roseannadanna, you sure do ask a lot of questions…
When our older daughter was a baby, my mother-in-law came down for a visit, and we decided to spend a day at Busch Gardens. The ladies went on all the rides, while I sat and guarded the pram, which was quite enough excitement for me.
We’ve usually gone to the in-laws’ for Thanksgiving and other holidays, but they gave up their house and moved to an assisted-living place down near Philly a couple months ago. The three of us will instead be having dinner at SubVets next Thursday. It’s an annual tradition and a big deal: Dinners served at the clubhouse for veterans and SubScol students (with a shuttle bus back and forth between the base and the clubhouse); delivered to the personnel on duty at local police stations, firebarns, &c; and delivered to area shut-ins. Last year they served 1400+ meals, over 600 of them to go – all at no charge, prepared and delivered by SubVets volunteers.
32F out there with a vicious flurry coming down. No stickage expected, but a good day to stay indoors and set the couch on fire. The wife’s niece is in the Cities for some nursely training and is stopping by with lunch in tow later.
Looks like we’ll have T-day with family. It wasn’t looking likely, as my kids are a bunch of ditherers, but my eldest’s wife came through with a plan. The food will be meh, but we always have fun. Continued cold weather through next week, but it looks like there won’t be any snow on the ground, so the drive to their house will not be an issue.
Sadie slept with us for some of the night, so I guess we’re forgiven. She was up to greet me and looking for breakfast first thing.
The wife’s Trumper niece is coming in later in the week (she’s a pilot) and we’re meeting her for breakfast. The wife has decided to ignore her politics, but I’m not as forgiving and it will be hard to be pleasant. At least she doesn’t push her politics on anyone else other than her sister.
Of course not, but it does go in the laundry basket (I sweat a lot at the gym).
Good morning to all, up fairly early and have paid my credit card bills (always do it on the 20th of the month) and will break my fast once this message is sent. Nothing much on the agenda, it’s about 59F an only due to get to 63F for the day and we’re being warned about high winds today and tomorrow, so I’ll batten down the hatches here.
shoe, hope you are sleeping well.
boo fae, sounds like you survived the trek to work, be careful walking/driving tonight if you do go out.
Taters, glad you escaped unscathed, seems like those winds are heading in my direction. (Note just now on my compuiter: High winds in 1 hour) .
FCM, enjoy the day out with family.
Sticky Buns, a (bitter)sweet story and I wish you all the best in making it to your goal.
Cookie, just bite your tongue around niece, but not so hard that it bleeds…
Our blizzard (1-3 inches) is due tomorrow. I have to get my allergy shots but that is straight down the main road. I will be tucked in my nest the rest of the day.
There was a ‘bomb cyclone’ overnight. It didn’t affect us up here in almost Canada, but…
I tried to connect to VPN, and it timed out. I tried it on both computers with the same results. I got onto Outlook and asked if anyone else was having trouble. Apparently, the power is out in the office. I received this message from La Jefa on Teams:
Ok, given the first person report from ____ let’s not have anyone go into office today. It appears the outage map isn’t as specific as it indicates. It was a big storm and may take a while to reconnect everyone including internet providers.
She has power, but no Internet. Our treasurer says she has neither.
A tree fell on, and snuffed out, a homeless woman down in Lynnwood. A tree fell on a Metro bus in Seattle. The bus was empty except for the driver, and there were no injuries. KING5 is reporting fallen trees and downed power lines all over the place. Lots of road closures.
I really hope it happens, yes you do deserve to do this.
When I worked for the food stamp office, everyone in the office knew the trouble makers already, so when one of them did manage to get banned, word would spread at light speed. There was a book of pictures for the security guards but they always depended on us to tell them who to throw out.
If a banned person did come back, we had the security guard confront them, but always dialed 911 as soon as the person didn’t walk back out when the guard told them to.
I’m sure retail stores are different, management didn’t care as much about them getting assaulted as some government managers do. Although, I don’t think they cared about our safety because they cared about us as people. They didn’t want us to get scared and quit, leaving them short handed for a few months while new workers were being trained. Not to mention all the paperwork that would be involved.
That’s pretty awesome, go them! I hope you have a great time
She is doing so well, I’m so happy for all of you. I’ll bet she’s going to turn into a super cuddlebug once her mouth doesn’t hurt anymore.
My stuff goes on a drying rack in the laundry room after use and after being washed. Dryers are really bad for elastic and spandex. I want to put up a bit of clothesline under my carport but hubs thinks it will look too redneck. Yeah, I did strain my eyes when he said that.
The new Taco Bell is open, the parking lot was full and the drive-thru was backed up when I went by this morning. I briefly considered getting a taco or something after my swim, but then I forgot. Maybe next time.
We had a little rain this morning but it is warming up nicely. Tomorrow the temps is supposed to really drop and there is a possibility of snow on Friday. I’m excited to see the forest after a snowfall, I’ll bet it will be even more beautiful than normal.
Blizzard is over, with bright blue sky and sun shining. However, wind has been blowing all night so we didn’t get the postcard pic of snow on all the trees. Maybe next time.
School busses can’t run so school’s out. City has declared snow routes in effect, which reduces parking in the downtown area. Will likely take 24 hours before things are back to normal.
(Which is a good thing, because I was really late getting the recycling wheelie out for pickup, but based on the undisturbed snow accumulated on my more dutiful neighbours’ wheelie bins, the recycling truck hasn’t been through yet.)
Intermittent rain here, with talk of snow-ish slushiness tomorrow. However, it’s far too warm for anything to accumulate.
I seem to be grudgingly awake for the day, but am not emotionally prepared to, yanno, get up, so I’m snuggled in my nest of blankets (the heat is off to help me sleep) with y’all and a bit of smoke.
Oh, and I’ve just been re-joined by a noisy little black panther who’s demanding attention.
A cat named Monkey who looks like a panther & acts like a total drama-llama. Four animals rolled into one!
I’m only at post 63 of 129 but I have so much work to do, I just have to share the news. Daughter called last night and asked if Hubs was also available. Nope, in bed napping. Spidey .sense went up but she said it’s good news.
I said ok, I can wait until Dad is up then we’ll call you.
But she was so excited, she said, I’ll just tell you.
Her friend got the job at Henry Ford Main Hospital!!!
And they’re moving here to SE Mitten on Dec 2 or 3!!!
Although we live in a SWern suburb and she signed a lease for a house in a northern suburb which is 19 miles by car (which is a whole heck of a lot better than the 279 miles currently!)
So, I’m pretty gosh darn happy. :
Didn’t get to visit the SDMB yesterday because we went to Hubs cardiology appt in the New Center of Day-Twah. Dr pronounced his heart good but still put in for a CT and an Echocardiogram and a Pulmonary test as he thinks that maybe there might be some GvHD in his lungs. Then I NuStepped and took a 3-1/2 hr nap. Had leftover tuna patties with pierogi (mushroom for Hubs, potato & farmers cheese for me) and peas and carrots and corn (had to add some corn because was almost out of just peas and carrots). Last night was Spartan basketball vs Samford and we won 83-75… #GoGreen
One job turned me down. On Indeed, it said Not selected by employer.
It is to rain but maybe 50 moh gusts-do not want.
I went to the grocery store.
It was nice to see the fine holiday tradition of two women who hadn’t seen each other for 24 hours stopping to chat and blocking the entrance.
Well, the rain stopped here in Elkhart, so Mrs. Nott is off to the the grocery, so I’m sitting around drinking 7-Up and fake whiskey, and reading the SDMB. I was thinking about that trip to LA back in '88. We were being typical tourists, about to go into the LaBrea Tar Pits Museum when we happened upon a guy singing and playing guitar. He played a lot of Stephen Bishop songs, flawlessly. We were worried about closing time in the museum, so we handed the busker a few bucks and told him he was terrific. Mrs. Nott said, “Mr. Bishop would be proud,” and we went inside.
Ever since then, I’ve wondered if that busker in L.A. was really Stephen Bishop.
So another long day, made possible by someone stuffing a bunch of Surepost in the wrong bags, a bunch of wet damages, a 18 pack of German dishes that got reboxed(the inner packs survived because the Krauts that packed it put in enough layers of plastic and cardboard to stop an 88mm shell), rewrapping 4 street sweeper brushes(and finding the tracking number for one, since somebody lost the outer box with the label, and putting this 141lbs monstrosity’s
box back together with 3 rolls of tape, and 1000 square feet of shrink wrap.
And since I was so late that Spot was alone for 30 minutes, he’s now sulking somewhere, even though I scooped his box, and dumped dry, flavorless bits in his bowl befre tending to my own needs. Naptime!
It’s a vaccine injury.

No
Snitches get stitches Yell out if you see them
Tell them to leave, or call the fuzz if they made enough bother to be trespassed.
Sorry 'bout the job, tho - let’s see if the other one works out!
Dafuq is that?
I let the house get down to a chilly 60 F so the heater is working like a rented mule right now. Monkey even got under the blanket with me earlier, and he NEVER does that.
I have my lunch for today - and likely tomorrow, it’s a good-sized batch - all ready to go, and I’m so excited.
It’s my weird version of “Asian chicken salad” and is just shredded chicken, some sliced green onion, chunks of brie, and then poured over it all an unholy mix of squeeze-tube cilantro, (or real cilantro if I have it) plus hoisin and chili crisp, as “dressing” … sometimes I add a squirt of Chick-fil-A sauce, since I discovered they sell it at the store now & I don’t hafta hoard the packets.
Plus I’m re-using yesterday’s deli container of pasta salad, which was delishush & also there were, like, two bites left (I wasn’t gonna let them go, but I was also sleepy and didntwanna at the time) so there’s basically some tasty buried treasure at the bottom of my chicken, and if that’s not a motivator for someone who often just … doesn’t wanna eat … I don’t know what is.
Every service worker on their feet all day looks forward to their break time, but I am SO looking forward to mine today!
Plus it’s “short shift” night.
Alright, time for clean socks’n’undies, earrings, brush teeth, all that nonsense.
Well, lots of rain, but the wind didn’t seem too scary to me.
Yesterday ended on a frustrating note, as an Amazon driver called to say the complex gate was closed. I’ve had plenty of deliveries after the gate was closed before, but I gave him my code and instructions. He said it was the wrong code. No, it worked earlier yesterday and has for 6 years. He tried again, insisted it was the wrong code, and declared he was taking my item back to the warehouse. I then got a call from Amazon because he reported my address as “undeliverable,” meaning none of their stuff would get delivered. They wanted the “correct” code. (And yes, this was all legit.) Argh! Hopefully I’ll get stuff today.
I will forever call the road sanders “the gritters” after this. Thank you!
Oh, back in Ignorance, WY, some hospital workers, including nurses, picketed the hospital for requiring them to get vaccinated. They had lots of support. Better not to try wrapping your head around it.
Agreed! It was distressing to see how many of them there really are during the pandemic. There was a big, unmasked rally against vaccination on the Capital steps during the pandemic. A ( now former) friend attended and said there were nurses there. She’s a retired nurse and anti-vaxxer from way back.
I am astounded and impressed!
sticky, that was a moving, candid, insightful account. I respect and admire you.
This is why shopping carts should have bicycle horns on them. I usually say, “Beep! Beep!” Yes, I sound silly. No, I don’t mind. When the bells system went down at the high school, I used to shout, “Ring, ring!” at the kids in the hallway. Teaching eliminated any remaining dregs of pride.
Still rooting for you on the job front!
CatGlove, a big hooray on daughter moving closer! SO great!
shoe, what is Chik-Fil-A sauce? I mean, is it creamy, tomato-y, spicy, or what? I’ve never been an won’t go (owner and board chair VERY anti-LGBTQ), but I’m curious about the sauce, as I’ve heard it’s superb.
There was a murder here in my quiet town this morning, as I’ve learned on nextdoor.
It happened in a shopping center parking lot, close to a Fitness 19. And it happened about fifteen minutes after I exited that Fitness 19 after working out. That parking lot is scary this time of year in the mornings, as it’s dark and poorly lit. I always park as close as I can to the door of the gym. This morning it was extremely dark due to overcast skies, and I had to stand a minute just outside the door after leaving to let my eyes get used to it.
And dodgy characters have been loitering around there lately, as the unhoused have begun parking RVs and other vehicles nearby.
doggio Are those forklift, umm, forks with a tow hitch? Seemed odd at first, but on second thought, it could be quite useful.
Was my last day with the school for a while. My friend who runs the scene shop is under orders from the docs to not pick up anything over 10 lbs, so I expect to be called back. It is shocking to see him in this state, I’ve known him for 25 years, and he is a bear of a man, used to be 6’6", probably 300#, strong as an ox, now he’s maybe 6’2" and can’t stay on his feet for more than a few minutes.
I just got a mailer from Nielsen asking for my radio listening preferences. They’ll send me $5 when I tell them NPR is all I listen to. I got the news station and the music station. WITH, Ithaca, is the music. Stream it, if you like stuff like World Cafe.
teela Scary!! Glad you were out by the time it happened.
The turkey is out of the smoker and resting. I’m cooking up some pasta for supper. MIL slept most of the afternoon and has been seriously confused ever since - she didn’t remember Jessica coming to give her a shower and just asked something about oyster people…
Rain on the way with a cold front. Visit to the vampire on Firday. Good times.
