Old stove making random loud noise?

I live in an apartment with an old Sunray Centennial stove and for several months now it randomly makes a loud popping/clang sound even when it’s not in use. It will happen a few times a day and I just don’t get why it’s happening.

How can the sound be so loud and then instantly stop? Why is it random and happens at different times of the day or night?

I only use one of the burners on top to make pasta (quite frequently).

It’s nearly impossible to get a recording of the sound because the sound is completely random throughout the day or night.

Sounds like the sheetmetal suddenly “popping” back into position after it has been expanded by the heat of use. It may have started to do this as fasteners have loosened up over time.

Thanks for the reply. I’ll have to tell the maintenance guy at my complex about that, he couldn’t tell me anything himself.
