(Old) Strange Places and Milestones in the MMP

Hey all! Today’s been a very busy day. I have been running errands, filling out the paperwork to be a sub, returning several things that needed to be returned, typing up a spreadsheet of BtY’s past due work so we can sit on him and get it done, answered a lot of messages on a different board that I’m on, and did many surveys and signing up for research studies. I probably still have a lot more to do today but I’m over it.

I got a call from BtY Tech teacher yesterday to let me know that he has been playing with his phone in class instead of paying attention to the teacher and he’s very far behind on work. So that got him in a lot of trouble with Hubby last night. I helped him get his math homework done, and then got him through at least that class. He has biology, English, lifetime Wellness, and Spanish that need to be done. They are not all getting done tonight. I still need to contact the school and see when we’re having the IEP meeting so we can have all the teachers on the same page in terms of the best way to make sure school is successful for him.

CtE on the other hand, has actually been doing fairly well. They have come home a couple of times so far this year but the first one was for a major breakdown and the second one was no actual learning at the end of the day for the last two or three subjects and he couldn’t work on any school work because they forgot their laptop charger at home. But I’ve been checking their list of school work in the school program thing that we use. And they are actually caught up on things so I’m feeling pretty good about their senior year. Now I just have to hope that I can get one of the only 80 slots available to get their senior picture taken at the school. I just don’t have the money to go to a professional photographer and get it done.

Good news on Hubby’s front, he now has two tutees that will get us extra money. At the moment it’s Wednesday night and for this week at least, Friday night. Not sure if they’ll be changing that permanently and I kind of hope not, because that’s usually our date night. But if we have to change the night that date night is that is perfectly fine. I think it’s making hubby feel a lot better too now that he’s got some of the money coming in that we’ve been missing. And if I can do any subbing or if I can do enough studies to bring in extra cash all of that helps too.

As for me, I am just trying to keep up with everything. One of the things I may do tonight is work on my organizational planning so I know what I want to get done and what time frames I want to do these things in. This way I can figure out do I have time to do all the things I want, and if not how can I make the time or what can I cut back on. Hubby is going to be in the office tomorrow so I will have lots of uninterrupted time to do this kind of thing. Especially because I can’t do house cleaning right now because putting any kind of pressure on my hands to do rubbing like of the toilet or the bathtub the big areas that need to be scrubbed is just too painful. But I can still get a lot of other things done and that’s my plan until I have to take CtE to therapy.

Oopsie, my day of reading ended up going by the wayside thanks to having to get BTY through his school work. Tomorrow however, I will be having not only the house completely to myself but uninterrupted time while CTE is in therapy to get some reading done.

Metal Mouse, it helps that I’m familiar with the place too. I used to love subbing when I was teaching there. And now I’m just going to love subbing whenever I can get there. Still don’t know anything about the thing going or numbness though.

Sari, I’ll take a look at that. Anything I can do to make my hands better and get rid of this tingling is a good thing for me to try. Especially if it’s not invasive.

Talking about ear piercings, I got mine first done when I was five and then a second hole when I was 12 I think. But as I got older I developed a metal intolerance and any earrings in my ear and swell my ears up to the size of smoke grapes. So I stopped wearing most jewelry for a while. Rings and necklaces bother me a little, but anything that is inside the skin like a earring, that’s just not somewhere I’m going.

I know I’m probably missing a lot of important things that people have said but even speaking all of this out can be tiring. And I have to go back and make some corrections that I haven’t made yet. Everyone have a great Tuesday and thanks for keeping me in your thoughts.

You obviously don’t have a small dog who loses toys there. :stuck_out_tongue:

metal mouse, the odd part was getting to the pool. It was 26 miles of switchbacks, which took over an hour to travel, a stop at some shirttail relatives and mentioning finding a place to swim (SIL and I were thinking of an old school swimmin’ hole), and taking the kids of the household in tow to a small community pool that didn’t even have dressing rooms. We met some interesting people on that trip, some of them the kids at the pool who were curious about the two middle aged women from the city.

shoe, when I worked in restaurants in Indiana, local health code forbid nail polish or artificial nails for kitchen help. This was back in the dark ages when we also had to wear hairnets or hats per local code too.

Back in my wild and misspent youth (we all should have those), I went through a punk phase, complete with multi-colored, spiked hair and piercings. I had four piercings in one ear, six in the other, a pierced septum, snakebites, navel and nipple. With the exception of the original ear piercings, I no longer wear jewelry in most of them, although I can still get earrings in a couple of the ear piercings. I was about 10 the first time I got them pierced. Mom took us girls to the jewelry store and we all got pierced, from my six year old baby sis to her.

Irked, picked up Nelson, came home and et. Fixing to get ready for bed soon. This OT stuff sucketh mightily!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Howdy Y’all! We now have a tropical storm warnin’ and a flood watch in effect through tomorrow. I think it might not be as bad as all that, but TWPTB always say plan for the worst which is not bad advice. We had a power blip that lasted all of two seconds about an hour ago. Hopefully the worst will be we get a bunch of needed rain. Still better than 2018 when we had an actual cat. one hurricane blow through the area.

Don’t wash away! (Do you cover your cement pond during storms?)

So very jealous. I’ve got stoopid thin hair that just won’t spike no matter how much product I glop on. I had a friend who was able to spike her 6 inch mohawk and I hated her so much!

I’m taking a break from watching Nextdoor implode. Someone out of my area posted a tipping thread and I flagged it and suggested it be closed because it was going to blow up. The Lead for that area said something about the community being able to rationally discuss these sort of things. By doing that, she changed the requirements from three leads voting to close to five leads voting to close.

That was this morning.

The thread has gone the same way tipping threads always do and now the lead that told me to stay in my own lane is trying to close it down. I’m staying in my own lane because I’m a bitch. If it is still open in the morning, I’ll vote to close.

Up from naptime. there was some thunder in the distance earlier. I’m having the usual Tuesday Manhattan.

Many people are saying it works pretty well.

No it is not.

Happy Toosday!

Hot and muggy today. A good day to stay indoors.

Very busy day. I had a lot of phone calls to make and some were frustrating.
I got all the insurance and utilities stuff done. I have to call the insurance company back tomorrow to give them some more information.
We need some information from the seller; however, she wasn’t available today because she had her own set of issues to deal with. The movers she hired moved her stuff to her new home, but they are holding it hostage unless she pays more money. I’ve heard of moving companies that will pull that.

I didn’t hear from the dealership today. I’ll call them tomorrow.
Tomorrow will be three weeks since they have had my truck.

My back doesn’t hurt from the procedure unless I lean on it. No sitting back in a chair, and being careful when getting in and out of bed.
I’m already starting to feel a little better.

I hope whatever storm you get doesn’t amount to much Swampy

Congrats on the grant coming through JtC

I hope everything goes as planned to make your work situation less stressful Taters
Enjoy your long weekend.

My mother was one of those people who never wanted to be seen as ‘the bad guy’ . She got lucky, her assistant manager loved it, and he loved firing people. He did all her dirty work for her.

Shoe. I had never thought that my father would feel rejected when I didn’t let him do things for me. He was always doing things for my mother and sister, and I would always tell him, no, I can do it myself. I guess it was his love language to do for us, but I never wanted to be a weak little helpless woman like my mother and sister. They disgusted me. If I ever asked for help it was because I really needed it.

Oe of the biggest arguments I had with my mother was after my father died and I refused to pump gas for her. My father took her car out every week and filled her tank. I would help her with other stuff, like mowing the lawn, but I told her I would not do for her what she could do for herself.
Remember the books Real Men Don’t Eat Quiche and Real Women Don’t Pump Gas?
My mother considered herself a lady, and ladies do not pump gas.
She was so mad at me, but I stood my ground on that one. Such a petty thing I guess, but it was kind of insulting to me that she thought I wasn’t lady enough to not pump gas.

I don’t wear earrings very often, but when I do those little jade balls are my first choice.

Enjoy the BIG truck MetalMouse
I love driving big trucks, until it’s time to park them. I used to be good at that kind of stuff, but I am out of practice.

I posted this on the UPS FB group:

40% of comments: “4000lbs? Amazon screwed them selves.”
60% of comments: “Is that an AI hand?” “Dude what did you do to your pinkie finger?”

Yay!

My first thought was “WTF happened to that hand and is it ever going to be OK again?” (I’m not seeing a 4000lb anything anywhere)

bottom of the white label(yeah the perspective does make my hand look like I’ve been drinking out of the HazMat barrels again)

That is super-tiny print. I honestly thought the hand had suffered a nasty injury.

Christ, I’m so friggin’ bored tonight. Don’t feel like sitting on my ass watching videos of wildlife, standup comics, and movie clips. Feel vaguely restless, in fact. Might hafta take myself on a walk - it’s nice and cool out - and working on my feet all day has generally disinclined me towards also being on my feet during my free time, so I haven’t done that much lately. (Plus, yanno, summer heat.)

But this job isn’t kicking my ass the way it used to - getting out really early helped! - so I guess I’m getting better at it. Less inefficient.

I got out stoopit early tonight, so early I could sit outside before it was even sunset, and Monkey got to roll around in some 'nip, so that was nice.

But now, I’m just … restless. Well, SOMEbody drank all my booze, so I guess I’ll pop over to the corner store, then take that walk.

LIGHT BULB I’ll walk to the sto’ I iz smart!

Weather the weather well, swampy!

metal mouse has a Taco? That’s not a big truck. That’s my daily driver. It does look ginormous next to my folk’s little subabrus, but then it looks tiny next to my friend’s whatever the hell they’ve got…The runabout VW wagon thingy.

Shoe That same guy got to my booze. The bastard. I wish I could walk to the booze sto. 2 miles on a road where there going 55…no thanks. I’ll do it in the truck sober tomorrow.

doggio That’s what my hands look like after a day of work. Pinky bend, yes, the thumb looks a little bashed? Dirt, standard.

@dogbutler

I have that hanging on my door. I have the pattern for one that says “If I’m stitching, wait 5 minutes. If I’m still stitching, wait 10 minutes more.” I haven’t started it because it is cross stitch and I have to translate it to needlepoint.

I just got a phone call from someone who knows the lead who told me that her community could have a rational discussion about tipping and the lead’s friend says she is totally melting down because she only has 4 votes to close and now people are threatening to burn businesses down.

I don’t just close things down because I’m power hungry…

I am so happy to hear this. I know that you had a “routine” procedure but it was still an invasive process.

Thanks everyone for the conga rats…my goal of getting Meals on Wheels up and running again just keeps getting closer.

The cool night air and bright-ass full moon did the trick. I feel mich better.

I roasted some chicken thighs with the usual root veg plus a roll, and the skins are salty & crispy and I cannot WAIT to dunk this crusty roll into all that buttery, garlicky juice.

Then, I might sit outside to have my post-meal, pre-sleep smokeage. Hell, I may even wander around again for a bit.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveld. Off to heave. It’s supposed to start raining this afternoon.

So that’s GC’s name?

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN :musical_note: :musical_note: :notes: It’s a rainy day in Jawja! :musical_note: :musical_note: :notes: ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out and rainy with a predicted high of 78 with heavy wind and rain predicted for the day. Usually we procure provisions on Hump Day, but today we shall stay inside and dry. I feel that to be a wise decision. So sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and sittin’ out on the back porch to watch the rain while day drinkin’ shall take care of the day. Also a good day to make a bigger sup, so a poke loin shall go in the slow cooker to be served with green beans, squish casserole, mac & cheese (due to a gnawin’ and a cravin’) and rolls. I may even make a peach cobbler just cause.

JtC yay for gettin’ closer to the MOW goal. Hope it happens soonest.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Bearing in mind my daughter’s school is very small (<40 students) and private, when they arrive, there’s a cart with one of those hanging things like for shoes, labeled with everyone’s name, and phones get turned off and go in there as soon as they walk in the door. Then the cart is wheeled into the office till end of classes. I don’t know if she requires the teachers to turn their phones off - I’m guessing at the very least, they’re on vibrate. Kinda makes on wonder how we got along in the olden days before cellphones…

Plus you can avoid the crowds stocking up on French Toast supplies. Or has panic not hit your area?

I mostly slept in till a bit after 6, then woke to discover my glasses are missing. Dammit. I suspect I may not have taken them off when I finished reading last night and put my tablet down, but they weren’t in the area of my pillow. I didn’t want to disturb FCD - I’ll search later. Fortunately, my spare pair was on the nightstand.

I thought I might take Tobias to a playground today till I saw the forecast - 87°. Nope. Not happening. If I feel brave, we’ll venture into the back yard before it gets too steamy. Other than that, no plans. I would take him to the library but apparently all kid-centric programs ended when school started. I guess toddlers and preschoolers are out of luck. Oh well. Maybe we’ll go to the thrift store, just because.

So uneventful day ahead, barring some event. Happy Wednesday!

Good morning!

It’s 61F, dark and cloudy outside with 95% humidity, but no rain. The expected high is somewhere around 73F with cloudy to partly cloudy skies and slight chance of rain here and there.

We had one GIANT blast (not a clap) of thunder yesterday. I saw a flash of lightning, then heard some thunder rumbling, and then BAM-BAM-BAM! My house shook, and it’s very solidly built. When it occurred, I was in the middle of Performance Management training ( ). I saw lots of “What the hell was THAT!?” on Nextdoor this morning. I turned out that I was also right between two areas that also endured lightning strikes; a tree was split in half, and there was a strike at the post office on the other side of me.

I’ve already had similar training three times, and this training covered all the same ground. Oh well.

I actually had this conversation with her on Monday, but all I received was a sort of shocked, “Oh”. She’s not going to change. However, yesterday I gave her a list of tasks, along with the priority level for each of them. Unless something is HOT, we have a weekly check-in and I can check her progress then. Looking forward to my one-on-one with the deputy today. I hope he doesn’t cancel.

Sari, I’m so glad you’re starting to feel better and I hope you hear something positive about your truck soon.

swampy, stay dry!

I got my ears pierced when I was about 12 years old. It was done the old-fashioned way with a needle and an ice cube. We soon discovered that I couldn’t wear anything but real gold or my ears would swell and pus would start appearing. I wore earrings for years until my daughter ripped one right off my ear when she was a baby. I stopped wearing earrings and my holes have since closed up. At this juncture, I’m not really interested in getting them pierced again. It’s just one more thing I have to mess around with and I’m at the point in my life where I want things to be more simplified.

Alrighty then. On with the day. I have lots to get done, as always.

We’re going in search of edible bagels today. Damned difficult to find in the midwest. A local grocery carries their own branded bagels, which aren’t bad, but they are terrible at stocking them, so it’s hit or miss. There’s a bakery called Rise Bagels nearby that gets good reviews, so we’ll see. I hate ordering them through Goldbelly or from Katz’s because of the shipping cost.

Lodged my beef with management about the cooking odors down the hall. She said she’ll speak to the tenant.
