(Old) Strange Places and Milestones in the MMP

Mornin’ one and all.

It’s 60F, dark, and slightly damp outside. The expected high is 65F, and we’ll have rain showers all day. I don’t mind because I don’t need to water the posies or lawn.

The talk with the deputy went well, but I didn’t get to cover everything. I felt I needed to be a little targeted and would deal with the stuff in little bites. He does have a lot going on. I discussed my most urgent concerns and left some stuff out. I don’t know if things will change, but he acknowledged and agreed with my points. I also felt it was important not just to firehose him with a long list of frustrations but to address the concerns I did bring up with suggestions for making those better.

In the meantime, I keep my eyes open for something else, while not mentioning that to anyone (but you all).

Today is my Friday, yay!

nellie, I hope you get some real help soon. That whole PT visit sounds frustrating as hell. I hope the ortho surgeon’s office also gets back to you on your incision site.

I’m a chocolate fan, but sometimes lighter flavors are needed. I find myself favoring strawberry shakes over chocolate, but only if it’s real strawberry, not that flavored syrup crap. That’s just too sweet. I do appreciate a good vanilla shake once in a while, too.

Happy birthday to FC daughter! I hope she gets to enjoy her special day!

Safe travels back home, pilot!

Okily-dokily, time for more coffee.

Morning all. Waiting for all the kids to get to school (starts at 7:45am here) then do my September Shopping early today. Then gym and soccer will keep me moderately active for the afternoon. Only 62F this morning and going to 83F for the high, so definitely milder than last week.

I can eat and enjoy vanilla but my preference is chocolate like FCM, and butter pecan for ice cream.

Pilot, hope the aerial traffic jams have cleared some, safe journeys.

FCM, hope the logistics this morning work out for you. And Hippo-birdie to Daughter-unit.

shoe, you ought to volunteer to read stories to kids at the library, you have the knack…of course, once they told their parents what the stories were about… :astonished: :astonished:

nellie, hope you get the PT you need. Sounds more disorganized than stoned.

OK, need to hurry up with the morning internettin’ and then make myself presentable to civilized society (or at least Kroger patrons) and head on out. Have a good Thorsday all.

Yaay! (sort of?). I gotta ask, do pilots still get the retirement sendoff via airport fire trucks and water and stuff? I hope so, you deserve a celebration I think.

Sorry I’m late to the party again, but stuff and other stuff keeps stuffing up my available time. (And we’ve been without internet a large part of the week) Between illnesses, moving a kid back into her apt, jury duty, and broken things, I can’t seem to get my head above water this month. And to top it all off, a few days ago the city decided to upgrade a bunch of underground infrastructure and not only was my driveway blocked, they dug up part of my yard. As I type, a small army of tracked vehicles waits menacingly just outside my window. Soon the lovely sounds of diesel engines, digging, and the insane beeping of modern construction equipment will fill my ears for yet another day. Sigh. At least we got our water back on, so that’s something.

The good news is I’m finally recovering from not-Covid-but-a-serious-respiratory-infection-anyway, requiring potions, shots, and pills. But I can sleep through the night finally. We’re trying to get launched on a month+ trip to the great Up Nawth (Glacier Nat’l Park), but found a host of issues that needed resolved before leaving. We’re finally getting ahead of it though. New tire, seals, and taillights on the RV (seriously, how does a taillight just break off?). Also finished installing the dash cams in the truck – something I swore I would do after last year’s accident. In a few days, I get another session with the eye surgeon, who will hopefully decide I’m getting well enough for the repair of my left eye later this year.

Glad to hear Nellie’s leg is doing better. I hope it continues. Apologies to all the others recovering, have read much and retained little.

As far as Milestones and Strange places, I spent quite a bit of time working with this view out my window. I guess it qualifies as “strange”.

Hope everyone has a good (better) week!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s a cool 14c/57f with a predicted high of 16c/57f outside, and cloudy. Weather app is unimpressed and says “Shove those fucking clouds up your ass.” No, thank you, they’re much better off up in the sky instead. It rained a little bit when I was on the way to campus this morning, now it’s just overcast.

I’m working from home tomorrow as a bonus because the train drivers are on strike so getting to campus would be a proper pain in the backside, much more sensible for me to stay at home and not bother with trying to negotiate buses, trams and whatnot.

You lot have been very chatty, thus I have read much and retained little. Also, my eyes are a bit sore and focusing on the screen isn’t helping much. I’m tired and I need an early night, that’s on the cards for tonight as I’m not going anywhere, I can flop on the sofa and feel sorry for myself instead

I should have put some colour on my hair at the weekend but didn’t find the time and inclination together for it, so perhaps I’ll do that tomorrow morning before I log into irk, I should have plenty of time for it as the mogs will no doubt insist on being fed early so they can maximise their day’s sleeping.

Up here, there’s a Law: Any interesting astronomical event will be obscured by clouds and rain.

I haven’t even seen the annual meteor showers since I moved away from SoCal.

Having another square “croissant” because, well, it’s convenient and tasty. See, I started my day off eating!
… where the hell is my gold star sticker?

Granted, I drove over in my bathrobe … but I did cinch it well & pull a college sweatshirt over it, and ran my hands over my hair, so all necessary purification commenced first.

Monkey is derping around outside for a bit while I eat & Dope before resuming sleep. Should be an easy retrieval; I gave him some Squeezy-Crack ™ before letting him out, to remind him how much he luuuurves me.

This is a different brand (https://a.co/d/cGszDSn) from the rather nutritionally bereft Heinz type … more expensive for smaller tubes, but a better ingredients list and nutritional profile.

He still seems to like it. :+1:

I LOL’d, thx.

Hey, send 'em our way, though? I was having an absolute love affair with the moon the last coupla nights, such clear, star-glittery skies … but the bright-ass sunny days are a bit ouchy on my eyes, and I much prefer overcast, cloudy days, thankyouverymuch.

ETA: wow, the “link” function really crapped that up. Best imma do for now; brain is shutting back down for Second Sleep.

Had to do a trip to the surgeon’s NP yesterday to have a look at the knee. Had some seepage at the incision after Tuesday’s walk, and some swelling. It checked out okay, but they’re putting me on antibiotics for ten days to be safe. Swelling is down this morning and less redness.

Still getting some haze from the northern fires, unfortunately. Temps are going to shoot up this weekend with high 90s on Monday. We’re going to the niece’s place for BBQ that day, but will all huddle indoors while her husband slaves over a hot grill.

Found good bagels! In MSP! Hot damn!

Well, that was a rough night. I didn’t need the alarm reminding me to take pain pills, as I was up already. I tried icing it, wrapping it, and taking more Tylenol in addition to the pain pill. Nada. Now it’s morning, and it’s still hurting a lot. Nothing’s wrong. It’s just hurting a lot. Mama said there’d be days like this.

I’m in an open relationship with chocolate: we’re soulmates, but I can see other flavors.

Yanker, glad you’re feeling better. I love Glacier and envy you for the trip.

MetalMouse, say hi to the gym for me!

FCM, Happy Birthday to your daughter!

Shopping has been completed, so I’m stocked up for September and somewhat poorer in the wallet. 2-Liter Pepsi products were 2 for $5, but Wal-mart has them for $1.98each, and since I am fairly good at math I’ll stop by there today and replenish those supplies.

nellie, hope the pain lessens and I’ll pedal an extra couple of miles for you.

Cookie, you take care too, no relapses allowed.

boo fae, sleep long and well.

yanker, that ‘stuff’ certaintly takes priority, hope the broken things aren’t part of your body, And have had some minor digging around my place in the past, but nothing quite like you’re experiencing. Hope the trip comes off, sounds real neat. And the picture is…interesting.

OK, need to plan my gym trip, soccer starts around 5pm so it will be before that. Take care all.

Thank you for the well wishes, tested this morning and still positive. Dang it! It did take a bit longer for the line to show up this time. On Monday the Covid line jumped out nearly before I finished the 4 drops. I reckon that means it is not replicating as much and the pax is working.

I feel normal, no temp since Monday, I only cough when I lay down. That makes it interesting to get to sleep.

Last nights moon was impressive at 99%. Tonight it should be big and bright (claps).

American Airlines flight attendants have voted to authorize a strike. I’m flying cross country on American at the end of September. Should I be doing something to change my flight arrangements, or should I stand pat for now?

Oh man it is such a beautiful day! At 2pm it’s only 76°F, with a forecasted high of just 81, and it’s been sunny and breezy with no humidity all day. I’ve had most of the windows open since this morning, and with a forecasted overnight low of 56 they might just stay open! Not to mention that tomorrow and Saturday are looking pretty good, too, with sunshine and predicted high temps of only 82 (tomorrow) and 85 (Sat). Of course it will be 94 on Sunday, which is when I have a 12-3pm outdoor event, but c’est la vie (or, at least, l’été/l’automne à DC).

I tried to look at it last night, but was foiled by heavy cloud cover. :frowning: The sunset was amazing, though!

That sounds perfect!

Ugh. :people_hugging:

How many weeks in are you? Tylenol did zip for me and the narcotics have their own problems. But the latter are necessary for awhile because if you can’t sleep, you can’t rest, and you start having dark thoughts. Hope you do better soon.

Can’t remember if I recommended this pillow, but it really helps me, especially for side-sleeping or just elevating the leg.

Deep in the heart of –

Ohgoddammit ferchrissakes ya almost got me!

I. Moved. The. Fuck. Away.

You know what? Thank you.

I was barely myself by the time I said, “Fuck it, that’s the best I can do” and hit the road with no fucking clue what lay ahead of me. (Hint: covid was still just a twinkle in some lab tech’s eye. And here I thought, at the time, it’s enough that I don’t know where I’ll live or what I’ll do for work … )

So thanks for the reminder. I forget sometimes.

Heh. Well put.

Okay, time to get my shit together my poop in a group, and trundle on down to Ye Olde Pizza Jointe.

Evil laugh.

I must say independent pharmacies are the best thing ever! As I am stuck at home, my pharmacy was able to deliver more Covid tests, (used the last one this morning) and cat litter. Just amazing and something the big stores would not do.

That certainly was a mess.

I’ve found that this way always seems to work best.

It always annoys me when someone complains about something without thinking about it long enough to come up with some ideas as to how to make it better.

It’s amazing how difficult that is these days.

I’m glad you are feeling better. I think you had an amazing view!

COC was getting a couple of tubes a day in our attempts to keep some weight on him and that meant that VBC the pudgebutt and GG also got some. Now that he’s gone, I won’t let hubs give the cats the squeezy crack on a daily basis because we want to keep the weight off of them and I want to keep them for special treats after claw trimming.

Every time Hubs gets into the good things cabinet, he loudly tells GG that he would love to give him a tube but mom is a big ol’ meany.

HURRAY!!! Does the shop just sell bagels or does it have other good fuds as well?

I am so sorry.

This is very good news. When hubs had Covid, he slept in his recliner so he could breathe easier. Be sure to keep drinking a lot of water, it will really help in your recovery.

I might try that tonight. I have a man couch that has recliners on both ends. Laying down gets the coughing going. I was thinking of doing a pillow thing. Thank you for reminding me about the recliner.

Now I don’t have to worry about putting clean sheet on the bed just yet.

I didn’t actually go in, the wife did. The website says they have bagel sandwiches, mostly bacon/egg/cheese/sausage and salmon. Risebagel.com.

Nellie, hoping for a better night!

Stand pat.

A US airline union needs the US President’s approval to strike. As in Biden. The union authorization vote is mostly to stir up fussy rah-rah sentiment among the membership. And as a show of “resolve” to management. IOW:

We’re serious now and if we don’t get our way we’ll hold our breath until we turn blue. At least we will if Daddy says it’s OK to hold our breath. If not then nothing will happen except a pitiful pout.

Sounds like most everyone is having a good day today.

Our day went off nominally from end to end. The adverse weather has all cleared out and life is good.

By happenstance we pretty well traced Idahlia’s track between the western Gulf of Mexico, Florida, and across the US to exit into the Atlantic. Could not see much evidence of damage near landfall; a wrecked swamp, a damaged swamp, and a normal swamp look about the same from a few miles up. The water out in the Gulf was a very different color and far more opaque that normal; we could see that the water all across the Gulf has a lot more sand and sediment stirred into it than normal. Part of the reason the Gulf waters get so warm in summer is that it’s really pretty shallow for as large as it is. So a strong hurricane can stir the water all the way to the bottom, churning up a bunch of sand that takes a week or several to settle out.

Got finished in NYC a bit early, hustled through customs, and am now cruising along in the back of a jet high over MerryeLande bringing me home. Hi FCM while waving madly!!1!

Some do; most don’t.

This may or may not turn out to have been / be my very last work. So I may already be done, I just don’t know it yet. Depends on whether they need me for the next few days, whether on-call or overtime. Most of the major milestones in my life have been understated, and most of the major chapters of my life have ended with a comparative whimper, not a Big Bang. This one promises to be more of that same theme. Slink out the service entrance with your mementos in your head, not in your hand.

And yes, that does qualify as a strange view. How far offshore was that pic?

Yaay!!! That is an achievement!

Yes, this. A whole chorus of good wishes from everyone.
