(Old) Thank God It's Frood Day - A Hoopy MMP

Saturday is Towel Day, so make sure you have yours, and maybe pop down to the pub for a couple of pints, or a cup of a liquid almost, but not entirely unlike tea. Unless that one Facebook Nutter is right, and Judgement Day is Tuesday. Anyways, hijack away, for I am up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

and here’s the late Gordie with his favorite towel:

Now I’m wondering how to celebrate towel day. Perhaps buying new towels?

Today’s Pentecost Montag, so no (office) work. Going to make lemon poppy seed cake, and we have hamburgers ready for grilling. And the weather seems to be of the same mindset. After yesterday’s mix of sun, rain, lightning, thunder, today’s forecast is (drum roll please) partially sunny.

So I should go start baking. Unfortunately I’m getting to the end of the neutral oil, so I might do some baking with olive oil. And get some butter out to soften and make cookies.

I would like to tell people on my street to please not grill unless you want to give me a hamburger.
The smell!:stuck_out_tongue:

Tonight’s pizza joint stories, mostly brought to you by the “WTF is the matter with you people?” department:

Caller: “Are the jalapeño poppers spicy?”
S.M. doing her best over the phone: “I mean … they’re a whole jalapeño …”
Rest of kitchen: { quietly loses it }

Oh, this guy pissed me right the fuck off. He’s paying at the counter, pulls a hundred out of his wallet (for a single pizza, but whatevs) and then snatched it away from my hand when I reached for it.

“Hur, hur, my wife would’ve been a lot faster than that to grab it!”

Me, in my best gritted-teeth-but-icy-polite voice: “Well, I try to have better manners than that.”

Asshole.

Guy pulls up, wants to order two pizza subs. We’ve 86d them b.c we’re just about out of the sausage used for those.

His shoulders visibly slump when I tell him, and he asks for a pizza instead, in such a dejected tone; I just didn’t have the heart.

Also, I happen to know there’s two-three sausage patties prepped, remaining in the walk-in.

Some days, you really want me taking your order.

I asked the acting manager (S.M. was early out & already gone home) to, uh, un-86 pizza subs briefly, explained why.

Here’s the fun part: he tells me what he wants on his (mushrooms, olives, some other shit) and I ask, what about the other one?

“Oh, she won’t eat that stuff.”

“So what does … she … want on her sandwich?”

“I dunno, lemme call her.”

She doesn’t pick up. I jokingly said, “Well, how well do you know her?”

He gave me a look that was somehow a pure 50/50 mix of “brave face” and “deer in headlights” and I laughed gently and said, “Always a dangerous game, huh?”

ETA: he asked for pineapple on hers. Bold move, my man. Hope you guessed correctly.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 11/52f with a predicted high of 18c/64f, and mostly cloudy. Weather appy says “All of the clouds throw fucking shade. But not as much as your stupid fucking ex.” OK, so the weather app knew him particularly well…

If towel day is Saturday, I’ll definitely have one with me because I’ll be in the gym. If Judgement Day is going to be Tuesday, I should save myself the bother of scoping out the place I’m supposed to go to. I have to go an off-site training thing for irk, there’s a place fairly local to me but I’ve never been in that area before so my plan was to nip out at lunchtime and find out exactly where it is. Not much point if it’s Judgement Day instead

shoe you must have the patience of a saint to deal with those idiots on a regular basis!

ok in the last MMP, you mentioned “steak nuggets” I’m imagining a cut-up steak being breaded and fried like chicken nuggets …how far off am I?

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 66 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 83 and partly N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is men’s night over to the church house. Thus beer is chillin’ and steaks are marinatin’. We shall go over early to do setup as is our wont. Sloth and nappage will be accomplished. Day drinkin’ will not be done as we shall quaff beerverages with our steaks.

red so Nelson is not so much a cicada snacker as a cicada mighty hunter. Good to know.

Dicey can’t beat a good ol’ home grilled burger!

doggio that’s a good pic of the late and very much missed Gordie. I do recall him bein’ a hoopy frood. I have plans to be at the cee-mint pond on Sattidy, so I shall have a towel at the ready.

shades that’s a pretty apt description of steak nuggets.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

Cloudy start to the day, but in theory it will clear a bit and we’ll get into the upper 70s. Doesn’t look that way now, but OK…

Many visitors coming today - nurse between 9 and 10, a chaplain around 1:30 and the aide for a shower some time this afternoon. I will absent myself when the chaplain is here - I’ll use that time to grub in the garden. I also need to slip out with the nurse and ask if MIL is healthy enough to make the trip safely. We don’t think so and she’s so pig-headed, she may not listen to a nurse anyway. Last night, she was talking to AuntB on the phone - I could hear her coughing all the way from Inday. Maybe she’ll be smart enough to realize that she can’t care for 2 invalids at once. But she’s a pig-headed as her sister.

FCD has left for the marina. Daughter and SIL are going to be with him to help today. We’re planning to completely re-do the AC electrical system, so that should be fun. And it won’t be the entire system - we won’t rewire all the outlets, but we will put in terminal blocks between all the circuits and the circuit breakers. Not sure how it’s all done right now. Anyway, fun times ahead.

My bladder seems to think its time is 3AM. Normally not too much of an issue because I fall back to sleep, but this morning, it was a fitful on-and-off sleep. And around 4:30-ish, I woke with a start - I was certain I heard someone talking in the living room. Then I heard the cat making noise, so I guess it was a dream and cat noises melding to make me hear voices. I gave up around 6, and I foresee a long day.

And so it begins - another week in Paradise. Happy Moanday!!

Buddy woke me up with such antics as stomping on my head while roaming the bed, then rushing to the window to clatter the vertical blinds while growling loudly (second night in a row for the odd growling). Then, when I was putting stuff in the dishwasher, he insisted on sitting ON the open door, not that he was much help with that task.

Shaping up to be a day of low-level irritation.

Yesterday went well. I’m trying to get caught up on work since I haven’t done much (paying) work in the past couple days. I hope you all have a great day! More later…

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 44 degrees Fahrenheit, dark and cloudy outside. The expected high temperature for home is around 68 degrees Fahrenheit with partly sunny skies, but up in Blaine, it’ll only be around a high of 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Tomorrow, it’ll be rainy for both locales.

My birthday was pleasant and super low-key. My son arrived in the morning, and we headed down to one of my other favorite nurseries. I picked some plants and pots, and he picked out a trellis. He ended up paying for most of it as a birthday gift. When we arrived I told him he could pay for one pot and a plant, and he was having none of it. My son is a good man and generous to a fault. I didn’t get around to planting anything yesterday; I didn’t have enough container soil, and the soil wouldn’t have fit in the Jeep anyway. I picked two stunning lupines, but one was super tall and barely fit in the Jeep, even sitting on the floor. The other was nearly as tall and had to sit on the Jeep floor.

I picked other plants: heliotrope, lantana, marigolds, and a few others. I also got three ceramic pots. I plan to go back next weekend on my own and get a large cedar planter. I have a long cedar planter now, but I believe the plants there have become crowded, and I’m worried they are rootbound. It’s somewhat narrow too. Sadly, I think I’m going to have to destroy that planter to get the plants out without damage. I also still need to get a good large planter for the Japanese maple my son purchased for me last year.

Sticky Buns, I’m glad things went well.

FCM, I kind of hope MiL can’t go on the trip. I don’t think it’ll be good for anyone.

JtC, I’m sorry read about the termite inspection. I termite destruction goes well and there aren’t any other unpleasant surprises.

Metal Mouse, yay for being back online!

I plan to leave the house a little after 9:00 a.m. to stop and fuel up and pick up some stuff at the grocery store. When I’m driving, I like to snack on grapes in a cup. I might stop at the carwash to use the vacuum, but we’ll see. I’ll pick up a fifth of good vodka and some mixer, probably a lightly flavored water like Buble’. While I don’t mind paying for drinks in the bar, it’s nice to have your own beverage at the firepit. That’s what we did last year, and it worked out nicely. Besides, the bar/restaurant at the resort is stupidly overpriced.

Then I’ll head a little south to pick up my co-worker and back out this way and all the way north to nearly the Canadian border. Well, hell, Blaine is pretty much on the border, and we can see Canada from the hotel, lol!

I would still rather not go, but on the other hand, it’s almost over, and then I can focus on other stuff. I plan to take an extra day off. I had already scheduled myself to be off on Friday, but I am going to take the following Tuesday as well. I want a five-day weekend, and I want time to enjoy it, relax, work in my garden, and take care of the usual chores without feeling like I’m in a rush.

Time for another cup of coffee! I’m a little behind my coffee consumption!

Good morning all. Slept in to nearly 8am today so slowly coming back to life. Will dress and head out to do the shopping and sammich routine and then maybe do a little housework. Weather is supposed to be nice the next few days (highs in the 80’sF) and then stormy over the weekend, but forecasts have been known to change around here almost hourly, so we’ll see. Soccer is over so I will be looking for things to do the next couple of weeks until my June travels kick in.

I have towels all round the house, mostly for gym stuff but also on the seat and back of my leather chair here at the computer, since I tend to wear…umm…fewer clothes inside. Anyways, towels are a good thing to have.

Taters, sounds like your ‘green thumb’ got the best of your birthday. Hope your travels are without incident.

Nettie, is Buddy trying to tell you something, or just found a new way to irritate you?

Y’all ever, you know, actually go sailing on that boat?

shoe, you did a good thing for that gentleman and I hope the lady enjoyed her pineapple. You didn’t mention age, but I wonder if it was a ‘pregnancy craving’ which would explain his disappointment.

doggio, lovely remembrance picture of Gordie.

OK, need to get my shopping list together and get on and about the day. All y’all take care now.

Could be both, really. I’m working on figuring that out.

Low volume today, but good thing, because SSLAW #1 couldn’t even. Also, nobody did the empty bags on Saturday(quelle surprise!), so I did double the work. Spot and I have had our dry flavorless bits, so it’s naptime.

As does the complex. Because in his absence, The Invisible Mole People keep eating the neighbors across the hall.

So just an average day for a cat servant?

I read The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy coming home from Europe. It was especially funny after having ‘lived out of’ Let’s Go: Europe for five weeks. When I got home, I bought a white towel at Kmart, and went to a ‘T-shirt place’ that did those ‘flocky’ iron-on letters and had DON’T PANIC put on the towel in red, and black, letters.

I still have that towel. And I know where it is.

Hi all! I read about 2/3rds of last week’s MMP as it happened, and skimmed the weekend’s worth.

A fine visit was had here. I got the place fully assembled before she arrived Fri afternoon. She decided to leave her overnight shift in the morning, stop to get her hair done, go home and pack, then come straight to me with no sleep. She arrived around 2pm. By the time we finally went to sleep that night at near midnight she’d been up 36 hours. And I’d sweated 100% of her curl out of her 'do. We had a good laugh about that.

She really likes my place. Over Fri, Sat, Sun, and now Mon we had a great time. It’s 1030 Mon morning as I type and she’s just left to go home. Between my exhausting week of moving and her 4 overnight shifts of especially difficult cases, we both started out the visit tired. Nonetheless we christened the bed (a lot), the backup bed (a lot too), the couch (some more), the living room rug (just once or twice), and the balcony (just once, but see below). And of course the shower several times. Leaving just a few horizontal surfaces for next time. Substantially all of Sunday was in bed except for going out to Brazilian Steakhouse dinner with my pal & his wife who’s also a nurse (now NP). We got through 3 sets of sheets and 6 sets of towels.

The extra-thick extra-large yoga mats I got for the balcony worked great and going at it late at night with the almost-full Moon high in the sky, the warm tropical breeze blowing across hair and skin, and the city lights arrayed against the dark sky and black ocean was simply magical. That’s gonna be a regular feature of our rotation for sure.

By this morning we could both hardly walk and when we did, we were bow-legged. But that didn’t stop us from having a couple of slo-mo fucks before our shower and one last one after. Then off to breakfast and eventually back to send her home. To recover and return on (I think) Thu. Which is the night of the full Moon, so extra craziness can be assumed. The building even has free charging for her Tesla, so her transportation costs are near zero.

I cannot believe my good fortune.

I’ve got a full day or two of wrap-up activities for the move planned; getting from 98% to 99.5%. But I’ll try to keep up with this MMP. And I’ll take some pix and get them posted for y’all in the next day or two.

At the rate they’re going, including Allie’s recent penchant for standing/walking on the laptop, high end of average.

Damned f-in scammers who prey on the elderly! MIL got a call claiming to be from CVS, asking who her family doctor is (no one since she’s in hospice), asking for her zip code, then asking for her Medicare number. At that point, she handed the phone to me. It was a man with a very thick Indian accent who wouldn’t identify himself and kept asking for the Medicare number. The background sounds screamed “call center” and I just hung up.

Asshole scammers!!!

Nurse and aide have come and gone. MIL will be getting oxygen for the times she gets breathless, which happens more and more. The chaplain will be here in a couple of hours, at which point I plan to retreat to my veggie patch.

I watched the video of the Dali being moved to a berth to be unloaded before it’s towed to Norfolk. The port of Baltimore is all but open - impressive work being done to clear the wreckage.

And, yes, MetalMouse, we will get underway eventually… I hope. :stuck_out_tongue:

Happy Moanday, all! Tomorrow night is the big night for CtE - graduation. I decorated her mortar board for her on Thursday (using her design). She got the ok from the principal on it and wore it in for rehearsal today. She’s got another rehearsal tomorrow morning, then tomorrow night, we’ll have a high school graduate! My sister-in-law and niece are in town for it. Hubby is it spending time with them while I’m trying to make sure I hand enough spoons for the event.

I’ve been having difficulty getting out of the dumps lately. Hubby, Meta and I went to the Ren Faire on Saturday and it was low- level depression for me the whole time I was there. I tried to have fun but I just couldn’t get into it. And I didn’t want to ruin things for Hubby and Meta so I tried to keep it in. Some of it is missing Dad, some of it is missing former Partner, all of it is feeling like I’m drowning. But I’ll make it through. It’s what I have to do, right?

I’m expecting Wednesday to be tough. Dad would have been 76. I’m just going to take the day as I can and hope that I’m not too much of a wreck.

Luckily, other than graduation, there aren’t a lot of concrete plans for this week. My best friend may be coming up for the weekend. A guy I’m dating wants to take me out to the zoo at some point this week. And Saturday I may be going with Meta and a bunch of others to do karaoke. I’m just going to try to be aware of my needs right now. Even if I’m not sure what those needs are.

Well, hugs. Lots of hugs and love and cuddles. Those are always needs.

Its 86 out. Wow. I need to be on people.
