Back to the Grindstone- A Post Vacation MMP

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Be goodTry not to get caught while I’m gone.

{{{{shades}}}} I’m sorry about your kitty. :frowning:

Up, critters have been tended, and I’ve breakfasted. FCD has a pre-knee Dr appt at 7:30 this morning, so we’re functioning earlier than usual. He just had his toast and juice and the dishwasher is sloshing away.

I had some plans that require decent weather - they’ll have to wait, since rain is promised today. But I will run to WalMart and Lowe’s for a few things I need. And then, dunno. I suppose I could dust something.
:open_mouth:

FCD and I were just talking about Taz - we got him in Feb of ‘08 and the guy who surrendered him to the rescue group said he was about 18 months old. If that’'s correct, then he was born in Aug '06, making him 15 this month. So slightly younger than I thought, but not by much. He’s definitely showing his age at times, but other times, he’s still kitten-like. The biggest thing we notice is that he can’t jump like he used to. Sometimes he struggles to get up on my lap. Tough to watch…

Sorry your vacation is over, doggio - have fun heaving! We may take a vacation again some day… maybe… We still have a cruise booked for Sept of 2022 (it was supposed to happen Sept 2020 - hah!)

And not really a vacation, but we may drive to FL to check up on FCD’s folks once he recovers from the first knee replacement. Things are really deteriorating there and we can’t help - I know it’s eating him up. :slightly_frowning_face:

Meanwhile, I’ll finish my morning surfage, then shower and head south to spend money.

Happy Moanday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’! YAWN ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 94 and possible rain later this afternoon. It rained a bunch last night. Even woke me up once. I had thought about mowage today but that does not look possible now. Thus who knows what the day may hold. Sup shall be pot roast with little N.O.T. and carrots, baby lima beans, and corn bread. I shall get the slow cooker goin’ soon.

{{{Shades}}} so sad about your kitty! May her end be peaceful.

MOOOOOOM hope everything goes weil with FCD’s appointment.

doggio may your heavin’ be light.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

Yup, the back is sore today. I’ve got some pieces to deliver to clients today, fortunately they are light ones. The heavy pieces will just need to stay in the shop for a bit. I foresee a day of installing drawers and much melamine. I have laminate to attach to cabinets, I don’t wanna. Onward!

shades sorry about your kitty.

shades, I’m so sorry to hear about your kittelagh.

Today is going to be hot as blazes. My son’s cross country was rescheduled to start 3 hours later than usual, so at least he won’t be running when it’s hottest. Both kids are presumably safely at their respective schools for the day, which is weird - it’s like when I’d go on work trips, all excited to be by myself, then feeling like I was missing an arm when there was no one to come talk at me. Hopefully their first day will go swimmingly, but I’m sure I’ll get an earful if it doesn’t.

Anyway, time to work.

Good morning, everyone.

Saturday, Mrs Magill and Squeaky worked the Middle School Band car wash at the local Sonic… in the rain. The band still managed to raise some serious cash. While they were doing that, I left Spike home to keep the laundry moving (spoilers: he didn’t), while I went to give blood.

They have a cool, new brick and mortar blood donation site over by the main shopping area. I hadn’t been to give blood in about thirty years, since North Carolina put the kibosh on people with tattoos, and I just got out of the habit.

Yesterday was a lazy day. Not much got done, which was fine.

Last night, I had forgotten how much giving blood can affect your alcohol consumption, as my nightcap and book turned a blink into a four hour nap at ten o’clock last night. Unfortunately, this meant I took my trazadone at two AM, rather than ten-thirty, so there was no riding this morning. Heck, the fact I was moving around at six to get the boys off to school was a minor miracle.

I get a permanent crown later this morning, so I can finally chew on the right side of my mouth.

I hope everyone has a good week.

Afternoon, mumpers!

Shades so sorry to hear about your kitty. I hope the end is peaceful for all of you

nellie (from yesteday’s MMP) - we’re not married so he often gets referred to either as blokie, or 'im indoors. Which works well until we go somewhere and he ought to be called 'im outdoors instead!

Back to work today after my short break. I can see that none of my handover jobs have been touched, all the inboxes are full of crap and it doesn’t look like anyone’s done anything while I was gone. If I’d felt at all relaxed when I came back, that would have disappeared by now. As it was, I had one friend undergo an emergency ileostomy last week for bowel cancer, and another with throat cancer who’s been given 2-4 weeks to live. I’m never going away again :frowning:

Also have to do another lateral flow test now, to see if I’m fit to go to campus tomorrow.

A tourism commercial that was on just now boasted ‘The fish are biting!’

Why would I want to be bitten by a fish?

Off to irk. Read little, retained nothing. FML is pretty much my mood. Why? Dunno. Just feel like too many ppl are being @$$holes.

You’re living in sin?!?!?!??! < collapses on fainting couch >

Back from erranding. Narrowly escaped snarking at a mansplainer in Lowe’s. I went there to get a chain for our electric chainsaw, but they didn’t have the right size. Plus chains were all in the $20-25 range, and a brand new 14" Craftsman electric was only $59. Our old one is at least 20 years old - probably older, so why not?

As I was in line to check out, a guy behind me asks “Is that electric?” I said yeah. He then said “You’ve got to be careful with that.”

Really? So you’re saying I shouldn’t juggle it while it’s plugged in and running? And it’s not designed to slice bread or open envelopes?

I choked back the snark and merely said “I know - my old one died this weekend.” And he was mercifully silent after that.

Many stops - I filled my car, made the aforementioned stop at Lowe’s, then to WalMar where the purchase of cat food turned into $60 of assorted stuff. And on to Aldi to spend another $75. But I got a nice hunk of ribs that will be smoked in the next couple of days. Plus some chickie tits and some burgers for the freezer and assorted miscellany. So part of this afternoon will be spent packaging food for the freezer, cleaning strawberries, building a cuke salad, and emptying the dishwasher.

And the stoopit sun is out - I could have washed the comforter after all. Stoopit Alexa lied to me!

Upon further investigation (read moving round) it turns out I may have done something to my “better” knee. Not the one that had ACL replacement, the one that only had meniscus repair. Walking is difficult today, so probably not gonna make any drawers.

You might need these  <hands over the pearls>

Morning all. Had a bad case of the ‘don’t wannas’ this morning, and being retired I can listen to them…so in the sack until 8:30am. Need to do some shopping, banking and eating next, then coach soccer this afternoon (it hasn’t rained for 2 days, they can’t close the fields again). Maybe some housework on-between. Already 87F heading to 91F.

shady, just read the last week’s message. Hope senior kitty has a peaceful departure.

boo fae, sorry to hear about your friends. And really, work getting done while you’re gone? You should know better by now…

Wizard, nice of you to give blood–haven’t done so since I moved back from overseas, probably should look into doing so.

OK, best get dressed and do the outside chores. All y’all have a good Moanday.

Good morning everyone.

Sigh, still no poo. I fed Polar pumpkin and brown rice along with his boiled chicken thighs in hopes that would help move things along. It did not.

shady, I am very sorry to read about your kitty. I hope the kitty has a peaceful passing.

I called out sick today. I feel like utter crap and I don’t know why. Big headache and messy stomach. So, I emailed my acting boss and the executive team at my office to let them know I’d be out today. If I start feeling any better, I may sign into work, but we’ll see. As it is, I stayed in bed until Polar came upstairs to let me know he needed to go out. That was around 6:30 or so. He peed for a good while.

I spent yesterday doing chores around the house, plus I mowed the lawn. The hubster wanted to VR it up to get some exercise and I told him I didn’t feel like it. I should have suspected something was up with me since I turned him down on Saturday too. I just felt utterly exhausted all weekend and barely had the energy to accomplish the chores I did manage.

I know the exact feeling you’re describing, talky. But, now since the kids have been gone for many years, I don’t really have that issue anymore. On the other hand, I feel sort of bereft when Polar isn’t in the house and I miss him terribly if I have to go somewhere overnight.

{{{{{shades}}}}} My oldest kitties are getting up there as well. May her end be swift and free of pain.

Already have a student in quarantine. Negative test, but her brother came back positive, so she stays at home for 10 days. Luckily(?) after a year and a half of distance learning she won’t fall behind because we automatically put everything on the class website. And students wonder why I am such a stickler for masking protocols.

After a very nice weekend, the temperatures will be rising again this week, headed for triple digits Friday. Typical late summer in SoCal. Hope everybody has a great week.

Stay safe, Mumpers!

It was a light day, but lots of FUBAR-ness, so I made hours anyways. And I hit Aldi on the way home.

I think I heaved more on vacation.

Wait till swampy finds out they don’t have a deviled aig tray.

VanGo, hope the knee isn’t too badly hurt.

I quit because of all the questions.. “Who’s blood is this?” "Why is it in a bucket?!?

The way I look at it, is I owe the universe for not killing Mrs Magill. I’m too old to get on the bone marrow list, but not too old to give blood.

Sorry about your kitty, Shady.

Hope Polar poops soon, Taters.

We had a garage sale Fri-Sun and sold a metric buttload of crap treasures. Unfortunately, we still have 2 or 3 metric buttloads (butts load?) of stuff we didn’t even drag out there. Still, it’ll help. We still have someone coming tomorrow to look at the radial arm saw, and the guy who bought the kayak is coming Wed. morning to pick it up. Then we’re free! Free I tells you, for a few days to go over to central Orygun and build a closet in the bedroom. (Hopefully.)
Wifey hasn’t been there for over a month and she’s jonesin’ for a trip.

I used to give blood years ago, but then I was told that diabetics aren’t allowed. We’re too sweet, I guess.

We found one of ours the other day. We used to have two, one of which had a pair of yellow chicken salt and pepper shakers. We found the shakers, but not the tray. Oh well.

I need to get cleaned up to go see the heart doc now.

Evening all

{{Everyone else that wants one}}

Moderate day at irk today. I’m off for 2 days now, having booked them for flat hunting, but it seems there are no flats to be hunted down. Aside from that one place which didn’t have any keys, I’ve heard nothing but nopes from agencies, so it looks like a student share it is… so I’m going to the pub tomorrow instead- for the first time since my birthday last year (eesh, it’s been so long since I went to the pub that the last people I had a pint with have since had a baby). There’s less than a month left now before the course starts… I hope my brain still works.

The backup plan is borrowing Dad’s campervan and hiding it somewhere around the campus. It’s a sneaky plain-clothes white van, so I could maybe get away with it for a bit.

Speaking of vehicles, I’ve booked mine in for the annual MOT (compulsory car safety check) next week- cutting it a wee bit fine, as I think I may have to move- assuming I get the student accommodation I’ll need to move less than 2 weeks later- but time has lost most of its meaning lately, and I lost track.

I’ve pretty much always been disqualified from blood donation- due to assorted combinations of piercings, overseas travel and anaemia.

I can’t give blood because I have only one decent vein and it takes forever to get a couple of vials for blood tests. There’s no way I can squeeze out enough in the time allowed. And I’m not kidding about the one vein. One time, it took FIVE attempts in different places to start an IV on me - and that ended up in the back of my hand. Both arms were bruised afterwards. So, sorry, no B+ from me.

I emptied the dishwasher and started refilling it. I’ve got the ice maker going. I made a cuke-onion salad and I sliced up a quart of strawberries. Then I made packages of chickie tits for the freezer. FCD asked me to proofread a report for him, and I just finished. I supposed I should think about something for supper. Maybe burgers?
